The level of sheer incompetence displayed here is amazing. A quarantine room with holes in the floor. Letting that thing grow in such a flimsy container. He's too old now, but when they recast the role of Khan from Star Trek for the new movies, Kingsley should have played him. First off, he played Ghandi, so he has played an Indian before. But Ricardo Montalban had such a presence, and the intensity in his eyes was striking. But look at Kingsley's face. Look at those eyes. Its as if there is a vicious man waiting to be unleashed if provoked. He would have been my choice. Not even a doubt. Kingsley going toe-to-toe with Kirk? Wow!
This is completely ridiculous! So many pipes, niches, and holes in a room that’s supposed to be easy to sterilize. And then they send in two people with nothing but COVID protective gear? I love H.R. Giger's designs, but aside from the creature design, this film has aged incredibly poorly... it's almost unwatchable. O_o
They lost me at the moment, in a SCIENCE fiction movie, when the alien organism could grow grow from a single cell to a gigantic gooey thing with no source of mass.
I'm on board with your line of thinking but it could be argued that it draws CO2 from the air and processes it the same way trees do. The rate of growth is still entirely suspect, though.
The thing I always found interesting in these kinds of scenes, is. Where does the organism get its new biomass from? AIR? is it absorbing the containment vessel? Sure some growth can happen but eventually the cells need more fuel and food to expand. Lots of movies make this mistake btw. But it is just sci-fiction, I just wish they maybe included a plot device that explained it, like it breaks into the water storage container or something.
It's a silly scene with a dropped bolt falling through the grated floor... but not too far fetched. In 1980 a nuclear tipped missile exploded in its Silo while undergoing routine maintenance. The cause of the explosion... one of the workers dropped a wrench that fell to a lower portion of the missle where it punctured the skin of the rocket. A bit later the entire silo exploded in a massive fireball caused by the fuel leak. All because a dude dropped a wrench!
Why let them out while the thing is tiny and you can burn the container, if you can shout and have lots of drama and end up breaking protocol anyway when it's even more dangerous? lol
☝️☝️☝️ This Scene explain why not the embryo for chestbusters; but also the Xenomorph growing so fast... Even the Sill and the Xenomorphs are create for HR Gigger and this explain all...

Why would they design a floor with holes on them in a quarantine room? 😅😅
It was the 90s. We were just silly designers back them.
To have plot holes
It might be to have drainage into a bio-concentrator aka collector. It also allows flames from under to burn the whole room.. apparently..
its quite sensible, bio-hazard wise (burn/acid/flush). However welding them down seems like a bit of a oopsies.
