Loved Silent Hill…It is a dying breed of horror movies that built up tension and atmosphere to give you chills without resorting to cheap jump scares which is such an annoying tactic from horror movie directors nowadays…..
This is why the first movie is what introduced me to SH games. It also has minimal jumpscares, more focused on dreadful atmosphere and disturbing scenery. Unfortunately, did not do the same to its sequel (Revelation 3D 😒) which full with annoying cliche jumpscares, even lower budget than the first, cringier dialogues, and rushed pacing storyline.
There are good decent horror directors that build up the atmosphere only to have cheap jumpscare at the end of the scene. I stopped watching their movies 😂
My parents grew up very close to Centralia PA. My uncle even lived there for a few years before they closed the town due to the coal fires. It is a surreal place to see in person. I see how it inspired these games and films.
Calling something "sir" that is obviously not looking human is so typical for horror movies. But it didn't hurt the film in my opinion. Still one of the best video game adaptations ever
I think that overall the two movies represent wasted potential. The first movie really captured the despairing and haunting mood of the source material perfectly, and the first half of it was excellent, although the second half didn't seem as impressive. Overall, the first movie was decent and at least offered something to build upon going forward. However, the second movie wasn't as atmospheric. It had a few entertaining moments, but that was it really.
I'm one of the biggest fans of Silent Hill as a whole franchise of games (1, 2, 3, and 4 anyways), and when I first saw this movie I hated it, I thought it was a poor representation of all the scariest parts of the franchise us fans fell in love with, but learning about all the work the filmmakers put into this film, the hidden meanings, the homage paid, I now love this film, and watch it at least a couple times a year and having Akira Yamaoka come back and do the music was one of the best things about this movie, as he def is one of the SOULS of the franchise imo!!!...
You can say what you want about the movie, but it good the atmosphere and the visuals *perfectly*, the street cut off, the obscuring fog, the gritty decaying surrounding... Rose is also a refreshingly smart, witty and relatable character, most of the time keeping on even when all the odds are against her in such atrocious surrounding, and then nearly giving that one time - a real human moment. It's a decently written story, with continuity that while not perfect, modern movies can but dream off and never come close to accomplishing. It's also, among all the disturbing stuff, a heart touching drama somehow, with such a heartbreaking ending. It really is, a well done movie. I do my best to pretend that the sequel has never existed.
@@johnwaxman555 I remember huge amount of criticism coming from the fact they introduced non-game lore elements. Like burning witches lol. But considering all, even back then I thought - that's definitely not such a big deal.
yes. the sequel..not so much. but the first movie is QUITE good. the bit with the barbed wire at the end STILL makes me squeamish...and the story is well written and performed. shame they kinda dropped the ball in the second one..and even THEN tha tmovie has its moments. also it's a rare movie where Sean Bean's character LIVES.

Andrea is fucked every time....😢 Here she ends as an roast beef. The most brutal scenes, when she gets burned alive and gets the burning blisters all over.
One of the reasons i hate TWD is how they underused Laurie Holden in that show, after we saw what a badass she can play in Silent Hill. She's such a good actress and could have been one of the best TWD characters, but they assasinated her characters personality and then her character. The whole show could have gone another way, after the comics have became stale and kinda nonsensical, but they chaged the wrong parts.
well the first time I watched this back in the day, i didn't want that "stupid cop' to die as a character but that would have been the crap ending if she didn't die.
I mean The Silent Hill movie was bad, but they somewhat did a decent job at monster design and capturing the atmosphere, but everything else awful, for instance that is an abstract daddy, which is a monster from Silent Hill 2 not Silent Hill 1. All Silent Hill monsters represent the inner demons of the protagonist, so it did not make sense to have the nurses or pyramid head. We deserve a good Silent Hill movie!

On the other hand why would a handcuffed person in a monster filled abandoned town run away from the only person with a gun????
At least place the handcuffed person on three ground face down before walking to the cliff. It will take a bit to get back in their feet.
