- Here's Why Tesla Cybertruck Towing A Ford F-150 Is Meaningless
A tale of physics, electric trucks, and why tug of war doesn't matter.
Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - goo.gl/VZstk7
During the Tesla Cybertruck reveal Elon Musk showed the world that the Cybertruck can pull a Ford F-150, uphill! At initial glance, you might think wow, that's an impressive feat. Surely the Tesla's electric torque helps it rip the F-150 in this battle of "who's got the bigger driveshaft?" Unfortunately, physics informs us these kind of demonstrations are entirely pointless.
We'll discuss the actual wheel torque of the Tesla Cybertruck as well as the Ford F-150, we'll look into both vehicles weights, and we'll analyze the video to determine if the Ford is RWD or 4WD. Ultimately, we'll all land on the conclusion that everything we witnessed was pointless. That's the story of life. Enjoy!

@Lawson Greene the hummer ev is also just a gimmick, the concept of EV is to be more efficient. Why tf, would one want a 6tonne fridge to be an EV, for the amount of chargecycles that thing is gonna go trough and because of that Battery replacements, you could also just drive an old hummer with a tractor swap (altho the old motors are pretty much that already)
@Lawson Greene if the hummer was a hydrogen car, then it would make sence. Less battery waste, exactly as clean as Electric, and you have all the other EV benefits.

Uglier than a Pontiac Aztec.
The big thing is that we don't know which engine the F150 is using in the demonstration. If it is using the 6 cylinder eco then it's not even a competition. The 8 cylinder option would put up a better fight. I'm also glad you pointed out the very noticable camera play during the demonstration to make it seem like it's uphill. The general rule is if a camera moves and you have the feeling to move your head, it's cause the camera tilted.
And how exactly would the V8 do better than the 3.5 EB?? The EB produces more torque, and produces it at far lower RPM's than the Coyote, The EB will always, ALWAYS beat the Coyote. You would damn near have to redline the Coyote to be at full torque, while the EB is making 90% torque at just over 1500RPM. But I get it you're one of the good ol boys who thinks it better because it's got 2 more cylinders and makes more noise. Noise isn't power and impresses noone.
Tesla fans: We're helping the environment by being efficient and spending less energy
Tesla truck: Weighs as much as tank
There’s nothing wrong with being environmentally friendly. They give people option to use clean energy which we didn’t have before with our cars. And it comes with cheaper running costs and more performance.
@@eckee I don't mind it being there.. it's just lower running cost with a big upfront cost, that's just the way it is with most new tech. Paying big bucks upfront hurts a lot and that's why it takes so long for stuff like that to become mainstream.

Thanks again for the great videos. Just thought maybe the car might have a better advantage because of low center of gravity?
This thing looks like a cross between a DeLorean and a doorstop
davidh6364 agreed, the delorean was no beauty and now with the wedge shape, doorstop it is. I truly don’t understand the fascination with EVs. They’re so impractical b/c it takes fee flippin forever to recharge large battery packs. Complete non starter for me.
@@gman76utube Gman, the Delorean was a turd-flop and I believe Johnny was snorting that snow while picking which engine to use! This electric fad will fade & pass unless someone can figure out how to top off them in under 3 minutes. The eco-footprint for these electric cars is larger than an IC car anyway. The greens are not honest with themselves. Long live the internal combustion!
@@gman76utube, Why is an electric vehicle impractical? You can charge it at home so you never have to go to a gas station again.
How many people actually drive over 300 miles a day? Heck, how many people drive over 100 miles per day? All you have to do is plug it in every night when you get home.
The ONLY time you'll ever have to go to a charging station is when you go on a long trip. If you actually do drive 300 miles a day, then I agree, it would be impractical. But seriously, how many people actually do that?
@@Pappy63, It takes a whole hell of a less than 3 minutes to plug in your electric vehicle when you get home and unplug it when you leave. Imagine NEVER having to go to a gas station EVER again.
@@Pappy63, By the way, I hate going out of my way to go to a gas station. It takes time to drive there, time to fill up, time to pay, and time to leave. A whole hell of a lot longer than 3 minutes.
he literally drew a SPOT ON picture of the Tesla Truck lmaoo
You Wish tlyeapp, MEANWHILE,, wtf happened to the Model Y, and the Tesla Big Rig??
Spot on for the F150 too. Ugly boxes vs pretty triangles, lol.
Nice presentation. As an engineer I appreciate this. Better demo would have been tol load on each truck 500 to 1000 kg and then measuring the acceleration or let them drive uphill at different angles.
Or just use another AWD Truck and also not stack the odds in anyones favor. But that's not how marketing works.
@@alexvolkymore4676 If you tow one another you only prove that tesla is heavier. thats why i say do a practical test
Hi as an engineer could you shed some light on something. I'm pretty sure the formula F = mu x N provides the maximum frictional force produced. Not the pulling force of the trucks
Additionally, normal force is measured in Newtons not lbs?
@@matt9169 Yeah your statement is correct. more weight creates more weight force Fw=N which means that frictional force will get higher. the friction itself only changes when you change the state you are in. (if the floor stays the same of course) If you stand still the mu is higher, if you roll it gets lower.
Sir,please make a detailed video on ford 1.0 L ecoboost engine which is most awarded engine.
