- So we got a call to remove a hoplessly seized wheel lock nut on a 2003 Land Rover Freelander. After a failed first attempt, we machined a special tool and then Vera drilled the wheel lock out successfully.

That tool was a masterpiece of engineering. I have a special socket set for that purpose but is not very handy.

I always say to people who worry about locking wheel nuts, that there’s a procedure to deal with them. It’s simple.
Step1 Remove all 4. Step2 Walk towards the waste bin. Step3 Lift the lid of the bin & chuck the locking nuts inside.
Your life is now easier 😉

Hi Christian and Vera unless things are very bad in Germany nobody is going to steal those rims! My friend who is a land rover specialist was doing a similar job on a range rover this week he was saying thieves are too lazy to remove wheels these days, they are more likely to just take the car!
Vera seems to have got younger since having the Freelander and is now rivaling Sarah n Tuned on car repairs .

Oh dear Christian what have you been doing, Vera is after your job now, well done Vera, I've had a problem with a locking wheel nut on a Fiesta I bought, someone overtightened it, I tried everything to undo it & ended up drilling down the side, the type that was fitted had a round rotating collar around the main nut which was hardened & I had to get a tungsten drill bit & drill that off, I got it off in the end without damage to the wheel or wheel stud

Tip for Vera, if you ever encounter a very tight wheel nut, put the socket on the biggest breaker bar you have and use your foot on the bar and use your body weight to break the torque, although your a slim thing you will conquer it. Hope you injury heals quickly christian.
Yeah, we used the biggest breaker bar we own. Need to get a bigger one one day😅👍🙋♀️
I whinced when I watched Vera pushing down on the breaker bar. I was taught to always pull up from the other side. That way you use the strength in your legs and more importantly, if it releases or slips, you don’t destroy your knuckles on the concrete.
You may want to question who ever taught you that.😅🫣🙋♀️

if you are not planning on reusing the wheel nut, i have found that MIG welding a large nut to the top of the stuck wheel nut is very quick and works well...making sure to attach the ground to the nut you are actually welding in order to avoid running current through a a wheel bearing or the cars electrical system.
HI both, In the UK you can buy hardened sockets with a sort of reverse "teeth" a sharp type of spiral that's tapered to grip rounded bolts, nuts or busted wheel anti-theft t nuts. A great tool for undoing locking wheel nuts - that's why the wheel thieves use them sadly

You know things are getting serious when there's a switch to German! That was a brilliant tool by the way. I've had displeasure of dealing the the later JLR dome top locking nuts no tool would get them off had to ne cracked open with a welder
