it's really weird to see that they're masters of different aspects of the game. Dan is fantastic at the fundamentals of tennis and what goes into winning a real tennis game, whereas Arin is really great at using the game's mechanics (the star shots, super moves etc.). If we were to combine them into one person they would be an unstoppable mario tennis machine.

I love how Arin gravitated towards all the special moves that the game introduced and Danny keeps bodying him just by using the basics and fundamentals of real tennis.

This game has so much damn personality.
I always love playing as unconventional characters, like enemies. Seeing them put so much emotion and believability into such cartoony characters, even a freaking _squid_ skirting around a tennis court after being hauled in by a bucket just fits in so well.
They really need to put this amount of animation in the next Mario party game, or Mario game in general. It just adds so much more depth to the game.

The Mario sports games are handled by different developers than main Mario games or Mario Party. Camelot has always done a really good job with the Mario Tennis and Golf series.

Love how Dan is able to win most of the time even when he uses none of the special moves, that are there to help you win. While Arin uses special move after special move and struggles to beat Dan
It helps that Dan has a better understanding of base moves in tennis video games: If the other party doesn't know even the basic shots, simply going up to the net will make your life far easier (and will maybe make your opponent finally consider using a lobed shot from time to time x) )
Because Dan understands the mechanics of actual tennis, whereas Arin is relying purely on the mechanics of videogames.
Arin's learning of the mechanics paid off at the end! And I am really happy that he actually tried to learn the game. This game is incredibly cool when you know how to play it
Like with real sports, it's all about the fundamentals.

As an older dude around Dan’s age, imagining trying to keep up with controls and the buttons on controllers is just... more difficult at an older age when your focus is on the show you’re doing. He doesn’t focus on figuring out the controls because he’s focusing on the show, and just playing with natural ability, which he has loads of. As we’ve seen, when Dan and Arin play a game that Dan is focusing on and knows how to play, its an absolute shitstomp.
We’re better off with Dan not knowing how to play, it makes the games more fair.
*Arin's Strategy:* Try all the special moves at once while skipping replays one could learn from and looking at only two words on the controls screen. Become angry when greatness isn't achieved - Be great or give up. Yell until opponent gets frustrated.
*Dan's Strategy:* Use only basic shots and techniques, and don't worry about improving - That shit's hard, and this is a casual game. Also, chill out by commenting on pleasing visuals like characters, their outfits, the scenery, etc.

arin hit it straight to him lol, what's impressive is hitting back a special shot since that takes balls and skills. there have been games where people have been focused on breaking my racket and ive had to endure multiple special shots if i dont successfully drain their special meter every play. some of the greatest moments ive had in the game were using the dash thing and pressing the shot button at the exact frame i needed when i didnt have any zone speed left and gaining some charge for it which i can use to punish them with a zone shot afterwards while their meter was empty.
Love watching Arin "did you point" Hanson learn new things about sports. Keep it up

That’s how I felt against the Blooper boss in story mode. I tried playing like actual tennis to win points, and I just couldn’t win. My friend beat it on his first try, all he did was keep hitting super shots directly at Blooper to break his racket. He played Mario Tennis Aces while I tried to play actual Tennis.

I know that was a one off episode but i very much liked it! I'd be more than happy to watch them play more of this! In the last part when then began to get a better grasp of the movements the game really started to pick up in intensity, making those last exchanges hilarious!

@Jay Harv28 Seriously, considering how close every Arin win was while Arin pulled out all the stops and Dan was just using relatively basic shots the whole time, he would have probably crushed Arin in a way that would not have been fun for him if he'd known how to use the specials.

It’s a really good game, and they even have a mode where the special moves are disabled to further make it more dependent on timing and shot knowledge
It's a great game tbh the story mode teaches you all of the fundamentals as you progress. Dan has great tennis knowledge already but if he would've combined his tennis knowledge with the unique game mechanics he would've won every single set 100%
