@@NirvanaGuitars Np Eric, it's the truth. It's so easy to criticize anything, but very few take the time to try and make something comparable themselves. As the saying goes, "I've never seen a statue of a critic."
@@PickledPreserves123 Funny. You ought to know, you're pickled and preserved in the cure. However, there's also this: doesn't Eric's work of getting accurate tones count as a criticism against inaccuracy? It's true that many critics get it wrong by *just* going according to what they heard while not testing if what they heard is accurate, but all the same, once in a while someone actually puts the effort in and gets more accurate than anyone else. To say it in another way... 1: There are critics who aren't right. 2: Then there are some critics who are partly right, but who don't take everything into consideration. 3: Then some of them take more into consideration than that, and they get more things right (and almost are as good as the 4th type mentioned below,) but they're not making videos about it. 4: Then a rare few put much effort into it, including making videos in the pursuit of going and getting things as painfully accurate as they can get. This includes correcting unclear things as they go along, which also includes correcting things they thought were right but aren't. I'd count as being somewhere in camps 3 and 4, but with early B-52s videos. Not that I have much content, I barely have any, but I do feel confident enough that I can make some video content that's more on target than other inaccurate stuff I've seen here on YT.
Yeah and honestly kurt was still pretty punk when it came to playing live so it isn’t like playing it exactly as he did is necessary but Eric still does nail the tones fantastically
Well Aaron Rash had a video basically showing that the amp between a Mesa Boogie and Fender Twin is nearly identical, to get the Reading tone he used a transistor pedal. The reason being is the Mesa Boogie has a transistor based EQ built in so use a Fender Twin, use a transistor pedal and boom, very close results. That's probably why these tones are super close to the reference
I think the thing people forget is that kurt’s guitar isolated at shows was really fuzzy and very noise rock like, and there’s just natural reverb eating up some of the sound. Tones sound fantastic man, especially loved the drain you recreation, spot on, I’ve always been bugged about that small clone setting for the bridge, so thank you!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I 100% agree, I think people forget when they are listening to a full mix that the guitar has been carved to fit perfectly within that mix. So isolated, the guitar does sound very bitey and fuzzy but you don't notice that when the drums, bass and vocals are all rocking at the same time
In 7th grade, I would put on endless, nameless from this gig every morning when I woke up off Live! Tonight! Sold out before going to school. I hated middle school, and it felt like that allowed me to get through it. I still feel some of that angst.
Absolutely incredible work I was impressed just from the short snippets at the start of the video and when I heard the first song I felt like I was watching the actual show insanely close and what’s better you don’t even have the same amp and speakers as Kurt did but you somehow managed to exactly get the bright and bitey paramount sound love what you do keep it up!
i love the r... me solo so much, its so simple yet effective. from what I understand it was supposed to be on the original track but kurt decided to switch it for the bridge that we have today
I love these tone videos for 2 reasons: 1) They're amazing and cater a lot to Nirvana geeks like me. 2) Everytime I forget/don't know a certain chord or a specific part of a song, I just look at Eric's videos and find out what he's playing. There's always a chance it's not what Kurt played, but it's better than nothing.
Not gonna lie the criticism that "It sounds like someone frying bacon over every demo you do" is so funny to me for 3 reasons 😆 1. Recently took cooking lessons and one of the things you are taught is that your food must talk to you not scream when you frying using a pan. 2. I can actually picture Kurt doing his home demo recordings and you just happen to hear someone cooking bacon in the background. 3. Dude your content is gold! Nevermind those pesky naysayers! 🏆
This sounds amazing, the pedal/amp/guitar part is perfect. I gotta say, as constructive criticism, I think the cab sim for the tonemaster holds some of the tones back, since kurt frequently used celestion speakers, and that is more of an american speaker sound, which gets quite fizzy with DS1s and DS2s, but sounds awesome for In utero tones. I think it would be really cool if you tried a Marshall cab IR (like old greenbacks for nevermind or G12T75s for live tones), as it would sound a lot closer, but still, I love your videos and they were an amazing introduction to me for nirvana tones.
for like the past week ive literally been trying to get a tone similar to paramount. this vid is awesome and you did a VERY outstanding job with this tone, Eric!!
Dude,I can't stress enough how ridiculous your recreations are! I emulate your settings on my Mustang LT25 and single coil fender strat, and it still sounds near spot on! Keep up the great work! ❤
Hey dude. Been a long time subscriber of yours and just wanted to extend my thanks and just give u a virtual hug for all you do. I’m a looong time Nirvana fan, in fact Lithium was the first song I heard in my life that blew my mind back in 1991 and set me on the life course I’m on today. You are an extremely worthy tribute to Kurt and that whole sound. Cheers and know that what you have done so far is incredible and will be appreciated for decades to come. 🫡
Don't worry for not having a marshall cab and a mesaboogie .22, your tone is really, REALLY close to Kurt's one, if you use a celestion 12 t75 your tone would be identical, also, I personally think you shoul have used the fernandez strat instead of the reading festival, this video is great, keep it up Eric!
I love the Vandalism strat, really neat you got an original Japanese model! I got the Paramount Blu-Ray off Amazon a while back for peanuts, one of their best shows for sure
the thing i dont like about the signature jag is the pickup placement. kurt's bridge pickup is as close to the bridge as you can possible get it, giving the normally dark super distortion a very bright sound. but the signature moved it closer to the middle, which makes it sound a bit too muddy for my personal taste
also, for the ds-2 thing; you could take two straight off the assembly line, put them in the same settings, and it still wouldnt sound the same. thats just how pot values work, so im glad youre doing it by ear instead of by hyper zoomed in 30 something year old pictures
The neck pickup is also off slightly on the sigs, but still closer to the neck on the roadworn, than it is on the nos. The schaller bridge on Kurt's jag was also angled, similar to how any TOM is mounted on a gibson for intonation. So that also slightly brightens the treble notes for the bridge PU.
The pickup placement is the exact reason I chose to build my own, using a Squier Classic Vibe Jag. Instead of the TOM bridge tho, I added the Fender branded adjust o matic. It has a 10.5 radius, rather than a 12. So the E strings both lay flatter. Just wish it came in black chrome.
Dude the "experts" on here are bullshit. You get the CLOSEST to the tones without an EQ Board! This is one of the best Paramount tones I have heard! Also the old Vandy makes a return!
seems like these experts don't understand how mixes work, isolated guitars (from records or live performances) almost always sound "weird". Good job, sounds very close
The thing is you’ve got one of the road worns, those go for almost $2k now, the current new ones is what I see all the criticism for. There must be some kind of difference between them.
I can’t say I understand the hate on how bright the clean tones are. I mean, if what the picture I found on Reddit shows is true, then the settings on your amp are pretty damn close to the ones on Kurt’s Mesa Boogie Preamp.
Hey could you please do a video about the tone and songs nirvana played at leeds 1990 it would mean the world to me its my favorite show and i use your tone video a lot to learn other songs i love you channel
на этом концерте четко видно, как играется куплет Negative Creep, 6, 15, 3. Но даже это не может тебя переубедить). А так как всегда отличный звук, спасибо.
Wow, these settings vary so much from the paramount settings you used in the muddy banks video (which has been my gospel for that tone bc I have the same gear) and it still sounds so authentic again. I would be interested in the two tones being compared! (Paramount tone 1 and paramount tone 2)
Hey Eric, your channel inspired me to start my own channel (not this one that I'm commenting from) for earlier B-52s material. I haven't yet uploaded anything to it, but the channel exists and with a name that's much in vein with your channel - just with B-52s association, and not Nirvana.
Hey brother, quick question, how are you able to turn your ds-2 volume to max (or around max) without it being insanely loud, along with the amp being volume 5. I have a fender frontman 15g and I can barely turn it past 2 without feedback on my ds-2, so I was just wondering if you have anything that prevents that, or if it’s just the amp.
Cool video! I'm very impressed at how close you get to the original with your twin. ESPECIALLY on those cleans. Do you plan on getting a mesa boogie pre amp and crown power amp once you have the means? I'd love to see you mess around with those and see how much closer you can get
could you do a video on all of the different guitar tunings on the original tracks and live please also love this sm this helped me, i also have the signature jaguar :)
you mean the cheap new ones without the rhythm circuits and fancy chrome? if so, they have routing for humbuckers, the classic vibe ones don't have routing and then there's also contemporary jags that already have humbuckers and a tom bridge so without any modding a contemporary jag would be the best but you wouldn't be able to get the look but the specs would be somewhat close
Don't worry about the 'experts' on here mate, you're still the closest to these original tones on YT. Keep it up!
Wow thank you so much! That truly means a lot!

What a tone man!!! It's perfect, love it, and your playing too

That tone bro 🤤
i love the r... me solo so much, its so simple yet effective. from what I understand it was supposed to be on the original track but kurt decided to switch it for the bridge that we have today
I cant pick what i like more, the current bridge or the solo
that 89/90’s stratocaster is insane… ive been searching for that clean tone since i first saw Kurt perform teen spirit at the paramount
yes! Your back with the paramount tone!
🥳
Man if this is identical i cant even imagine the day you get the Mesa boogie its going to be scary how identical its going to be, great job!
Oh my gosh I’ve been wanting an in depth video like this for so long, this is great 🥹
My idol for tones recreation and AMP settings.Keep up the awesome work 👍👍
Thank you so much!
Honestly the paramount show is one of my favorite performances, I even have the vinyl of it, thanks NirvanaGuitars for making this video❤😊
I LOVE THIS TONE YOU ACHIEVED SO MUCH

I've been thinking about trying that!
