Chris really appreciate your detail in your videos.Im in the process of doing my 61 Deluxe 🇦🇺one year only. I’ve had to drill out pretty well all my 1/4 window screws.
Nice videos Chris, I`m from Brazil, I have a 85 bug, I`m trying make some repairs my myself during the weekends, only watching videos from youtube. Spendind time with my bug is really a good therapy
Hi Chris, I wish I would have found this video some months ago.....I just want to congratule you on your videos. The advice and general work you show on them helps me a lot in the restaurarion/renovation of my 58 and 60 beetles, both proyects still ongoing.I`m very envious when I see the amount and quality of the replacement parts you can get over your part of the world, than here, in Argentina, you don`t get too many so if you don`t have unlimited resources it is a slow process trying to locate the parts....it is half the time and the effort. Thanks a lot for the inspiration to keep going, in the difficult moments when I get tired or frustated,I watch one of your videos and that generally does the trick! By for now. Oscar
Hello there Chris I just recently bought a 64 bug driver door don't lock so I went to buy some outside door handle with key but they don't seem to fit so I went to a vw shop and they told my my whole door lock mechanism is messed up.am I just putting it on wrong or do I order the whole mechanism? Hope to hear from you soon Chris Vallone
Well we break the doors down for sure, so seals, no scrapers, no felt, window mech comes out, latch comes out etc. We loosen the screws so when the painter needs to take the doors off, he can with ease. You want to do as much as you can so the painter does not have to. This keeps costs down and less headache later.
Looks nice Chris, I have one done only one thing my vent wing does not sit flush at the top. Closed fully with the old seals but when I installed the new ones it does not sit flush on top now.
Chris, You have the best videos on the web when it comes to bug restoration. Hey, how about a video on how to install the One Piece Windows properly, specifically the rubber scrapers and guides. I can't figure it out. Thanks. Evan St. James - Redlands, CA.
Have had the doors off my 65 Bug to replace the hinges. Should I 1)put the doors back on the body before putting the window assembly with channels back in or 2)put the window assembly back in and then put the doors back on the body? Thank you for the helpful videos.
hey Chris, hows it going.thanks for the door break down videos.are you going to put all your tips on dvd, would love to have a copy.keep up the great work.
Chris, You said the holes in the door frame were where you’d removed “machine screws”. Then you went to the hardware store and bought flat-head sheet-metal screws (or wood screws). Once you screwed a sheet-metal screw into a threaded machine-screw hole, you bunged it up forever. Didn’t VW originally use round-head machine screws in those locations? What’s the correct replacement screw (dia. & threads/inch)?
The new vent windows look great! Do you have a source for new vent window frames/posts for a '66 Beetle? I've found new ones for pre '66 Beetles, and post '67, but not for '65-'67. Thanks for all your videos, Chris. They're really helpful.
groovy videos man , great job & been very very helpful thank you , 1 question i have a 72 beetle & a 71 Vw camper van , do u have the info on the best parts catalogs out there for beetles and busses ?? would be greatly helpful if u have a list of parts catalogs would make searching for stuff much easier i have a few but seems u get good stuff your cars & would like also to get good stuff for my car and bus , again thank you man great job.
Is the kit used in this video from Wolfsburgwest. If so is it the one that contains door to body seals, door handle seals, felt channels, vent window seals, inside and outside scrapers, check rod seals, dome light switch seals and screw hole plugs for both doors? I'm doing my 68 soon and just want to be sure that this is the kit I want to restore my door rubber and keep it from leaking
Hi cris !! I have super beetle 1974 !! Did you have video how to conect alternator before i have generator but we change to alternator !!!thanks if can help me whit some video !!
Hi Chris, I have a 70 bug with one-piece glass 'cal look' windows. Is it possible/worth it to revert them back to the original window configuration with the quarter light? Love the channel, great videos. 👍🎬
G'Day Chris. What is the part called on the vent window, not the seal but the straight part next to the window? I have part of it missing on my aussie built 1964 VW Beetle 1200 and the whistling is driving me nuts lol
To answer your question about the location of the holes for the “machine screws”... no, I was not talking about near the vent window. You showed holes, in pairs, recessed in the groove above and behind the roll-up window in the door frame. You said you’d removed “machine screws” but you bought sheet metal screws as replacements. Machine screws have a uniform diameter, and uniform thread pitch, like an 8/32, or 10/24 or an M4. Yes, it’s true that some size of sheet metal screw can be found that will take a bite in a previously tapped hole, but that screws up the machine thread in the hole so that a machine screw cannot be used again. It’s sort of a pet peeve of mine to see a shop take a shortcut like that. You seem so careful about being authentic in other areas, that it surprised me. Maybe sheet metal screws were originally used, and you replaced the old sheet metal screws with new sheet metal screws but mistakenly called them machine screws. I don’t mean to complain. Clearly, you’re a real VW restoration expert and your videos are really helpful. Thanks, Steve H.
So if these are the screws that hold the outside window scraper molding trim in? Then these are just sheet metal screws. There are no threads cut in the door for a machine screw.

@@classicvwbugs Thank you for your help. My first restoration...
Thank you Chris for best lesson.I have a similar problem with my Beetle!!!
Hi Chris, Have you ever installed a Shift Lock on a bug. I have a 67 and I'm thinking of getting one from WW. Would be nice to watch an install video.
Yes I have, but at the moment I do not have access to one.
thank you thank you!! been dreading to do this , nice one :)
Hi Chris, Do you suggest placing sound deadening material on the inside door metal prior to window re-installation. Thank you!
Yes
oh... well, thank you for that technical clarification
Yeah, figured that was going to be your answer. Thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks!
Love these vids, have to do this (hopefully) soon xD

Are you referring to the small screws in the vent window area?
What size/type screw do you for the outside scraper?
Any How to's comming about installing, heater cabels, gas cable, clutch cable, choke cable and stuff like that? or is that to strait forward ?
Well I got the rivet out of the 67 vent wing and the rivets I have are too thick or too short.
I think I'm too old to be doing this anymore.
The new vent windows look great! Do you have a source for new vent window frames/posts for a '66 Beetle? I've found new ones for pre '66 Beetles, and post '67, but not for '65-'67. Thanks for all your videos, Chris. They're really helpful.

Working on a 1963, so, should I start by installing the scrappers first or do I put the vent window gasket in first?
Scrapers for sure.
When you "gut" your car, does this mean you disassemble it as well? Such as taking off the doors?

Ah, not to worry. Just found your video on the subject. Cheers. Keep up the great work

The window felt? The one against the window is the felt, the one against the vent window is the vent flap.
+Chris Vallone That's it, thanks mate! My aussie built 64 Beetle is now on the road :)
Hi Chris does the felt channels also get glued in on a 63 bug or clips?
Glued
do you know where to get the screws that holds the vent-windows??
really need some!
You can get them from a hardware store, just bring one of them with you. You can also use some self tapper screws if need be.
ok, thanks :)

I my god wd40 for lub try krown perpetrating fluid will cause further corrosion

The screws you are using for the outside scrapers are "sheet metal" screws not machine thread. Just sayin!
sorry
