    Dang, after trying this on my 62, I ended up chipping my fresh paint and the vent window would not sit flush closed. It was getting hung up somewhere! I even put tape to avoid scratches, but I was so focused on sliding the vent window into the shaft, the upper hinge was eating away at my paint, so watch out for that! So, I ordered a paint pen, oh well easy fix. I ordered a new set of window rubbers because I bought cheap Brazilian ones, so I figured CIP1 would be a better choice for this. Round 3 coming soon.

  • @ewetho
    @ewetho 8 лет назад

    Hey Chris, you mentioned silicone for window runs to lube it to make window movement easier. Try powdered graphite instead. It works great and being dry does not attract extra dirt or smear up windows if you get a touch sloppy.

    I recently did all this on a 68 and it went pretty smooth.
    I started this afternoon on my 63 and I can see why they redesigned the inner scrapers and the vent window seals.
    The driver side door didn't have the inner scraper, I broke the wire trying to get it through the square holes. Any suggestions? I have it in place using some extra triangle clips from the old outer scraper instead of the wire.
    I think you have to be a magician to get those aftermarket wire clips in place.

    Vdub. I can’t seem to find it. Any suggestions

    • @classicvwbugs

      Could be the door arm behind the door panel that attaches to the door pull mech that opens and closes the door, might need some pad behind the arm to stop it from rattling.

    • @darrenwebb9312
      @darrenwebb9312 5 лет назад +1

      All righty.....so a new found friend said that I should have put the inner scrappers in first. So, after ripping out most of my hair on the drivers door, moved to the passenger door. Installed inner scrapper first, then outer scrapper/trim. It went in with a little effort, same for the outer trim. (Bear in mind I'm using new springs, can't find any used springs) Now I'm waiting on my passenger door vent window assembly and clamp.

      @@JosephDR Save your old inner scraper springs, the new rubbers will fit right on and the springs will go back in far easier than new springs will.

    @brighteyefilms Yeah i loosened the bolts a little more and re-inserted the vent window, it helped a little..? But the vents are still not flush. Everything is lined up and in place. The difference between the driver window and the passenger window is that they have different regulators. Is that normal? The passenger side has a sort of triangular wedge on the arm? Oh well I guess it's livable, i won't give up but it's frustrating. Let me know if you have any more ideas. Thanks for your help.

    Chris I've been working on the front door windows and the vent windows are especially giving me trouble. The new seals I put on look immaculate but the vent windows just don't line up. I've tried everything from taking it apart again then putting them back. Taking out the vent post putting that back. One vent has a gap and the other is overlapping the main sliding window. If you have any advice man I'd be glad to try anything now. PS my bug is a '63

    so chris, my 65 beetle is being a real pain in the ass and i have tried almost everything to get the door back together. i saw your newer video that is of a guy with a white 68 and he said to put the regulator in first then the glass. this is proving very hard and i am scratching the crap out of the glass and door. any pointers you can offer would be a huge help. thank

    • @classicvwbugs
      @classicvwbugs  9 лет назад

      BDOITW1 Do you have that tubular mechanism or the arm type?

    • @BDOITW1
      @BDOITW1 9 лет назад

      Chris Vallone it is not an arm, it more resembles a spring inside of a tube

    • @classicvwbugs
      @classicvwbugs  9 лет назад

      Chris Vallone Yeah regulator always goes in first, you might be inserting the glass incorrectly or not placed up against the mech right.
