I had bought a Spektrum charger and its cooling fans died in the warranty period. Horizon sent me the newer upgraded model as a replacement. I charge all of my batteries on the spektrum charger now. It's just a great unit.
I been using the spektrum smart charger with all my batteries. Works great. On my different brand batteries the only thing I have to do is hit the start button to start charging with the balance lead plugged of course.
Traxxas works the same way except you need to hit the start button and you have to manually put the batteries in storage I have both setups I do like the Spektrum a little bit better I enjoy that either way the charger knows whats plugged in and does the work nothing to change every time you use a different size pack
I got the S2200 and dont use any other chargers now. Seems to be more accurate with cell voltage reading than my ProTek stuff. The big benefit is the auto discharge. I still charge at a 1C voltage, batteries seem to last forever with light use.
My felony came with all the smart tech. I think it’s brilliant. For sure I have a normal 4 way charger too. But use this most often. Even with non smart lipos it works out the charge rate. Use the tech dude to make life easier. 👍🏻
Had my spektrum s2200 for over a year. Works on All my batteries. What I don't like, the G2 have no balance lead, so in my trucks and boats I can't use a lipo alarm, other than that I love em.
Smart batteries and charging is definitely the future of rc. I hate having to explain to customers how to charge a battery, quite often with digital chargers I offer to set it up for them. Most chargers now have built in balance boards so most the time you need balance extension leads as well. Gens Ace also have smart batteries now but they are all a bit expensive at present IMHO
I L O V E my S2100 Dual Charger, i use all Spectrum Batteries on all my Arrmas. They are a worry free battery solution. Spektrum batteries might be pricier than other brands, but to me they worth it, and its like this . . .They just work, have some 5 years old, and still energizing smiles here.
Your way behind, brother. When the Losi Gravedigger came out, I went ahead and bought the batteries and dual smart charger. It's been the best charger I've owned. And again, it will charge my other brand batteries. Great choice.
I liked my spektrum charger until I accidentally knocked it off a shelf. I also had bad run with the G2 4S line. 1 puffed out on it first use on a club track. Still angreat system paired with the ESC and dx3 and dx5.
@rcguygarage it was the 4th G2 4S battery after 2 were replaced, so actually 6 batteries. Either bad cells or swelling. Since the charger broke I haven't spent the extra money.
Only if I had an issue with my regular chargers, but they work fine and know what battery ive pluged in after connecting the balance port. And its 13 years old
I just call it the KISS method. The smart batteries and chargers just eliminate so much hassle and save time. Even the Groms are coming with smart batteries and a full size charger is better than USB. Spectrum even makes a "smart basher batteries" that have plenty of power. Great product for sure. I just wonder how long they hold a charge? The default setting for discharge is 72 hrs from what I've read.
I have a Spectrum 2100 dual charger. I charge all my batteries on it and it works great. As far as Spectrum batteries, I have a few and they work as advertised. I just think I can get more bang for the buck with CHNL, gens ace....ect. The spectrum batteries are a little pricey.
I've had the spectrum S2100 dual charger for 2 yrs now with no issues what so ever. When I'm charging packs to go out and run some rc's I use both of my dual chargers and the spectrum charger is way faster. My other charger is an Ultra Power UP200 duo. Although both chargers work fine, the spectrum will charge 8- 9 packs in the time it takes the ultra power to charge 4 packs. So its twice as fast. 👍🤙💯🤪
That’s cool guy , but I’ve been using the traxxas smart technology for 6years😉 and I had to chuckle when you read the rule in charging and lipo safety😆😆🤙🤙
"You can't hurt the batteries by fast charging them..." That right there tells me this guy is not someone I would trust talking about anything related to batteries.
That's ALSO like saying " you can't hurt an engine by mashing the pedal to the floor" BUT maybe you're taking what was said out of context? That guy knows some stuff I'm thinking. I believe just like the charger I use that even more so with SPEKTRUM tech that the Smart part knows what the battery can take for power 🤫🤷 but who knows for real in the end 👍😲
@@puddlejumpernva No actually these batteries are set to a 50c charge rate so what we're going to do is plug them into 120 AC power with an extension cord and let it rip 😂🤣 Yes I know you're trying to be a wise guy and it's all right I'm thinking the smart tech between the charger and the battery allows you to pump up or bump up that rate and the battery and or charger gives what's needed??? So all of this is cool , but the lipo bags are not fire proof(check videos about this) at all , the only thing they help with Is giving you 2 seconds more to grab the battery before it burns thought the bag . Also I would love to see some one disconnect a battery that goes up from a charger and throw it out side . 99% of the time people won’t it goes up to fast or people are to afraid am with good reason . Ps I fly fpv drones and race this leads to plenty of battery’s catching fire in crashes compared to other hobbies . So I have seen and felt with many lipo fires . I charge in a batsafe box on a bench in my drive way. I sit with in 5 meters of the charger and if I not some thing is off I can pull the charger off the bad safe and just leave the battery to burn out in the box.
this exact thing was said in the video👍 no one said otherwise and to think that isn't smart. I myself have experience with the Samsung Bottle Rocket Phone and slapshotted it off my couch to my kitchen tile floor. sorry no videos of that one 😜 you seem to have a good hold on battery safety👍💯
Personally, I'm not going to buy anymore Spektrum batteries. I've had three replaced under warranty after experiencing a single cell failure on G1 3S 50C packs. I tried a 4S but the wires came out the front of the hard case instead of the top and didn't fit well in my v2 Kraton or Outcast. Zeee seems the way to go at like a third of the price. I do like my Spektrum S2100 charger though!
And that's what's great about having a choice to do what you want I definitely like what I'm seeing with the charger as well I don't have much experience with the spectrum stuff because obviously my experience was a bad one with the battery that I had but that was I think spectrum original who knows It was quite some time ago 😂🤣
I like the idea but those chargers just don't have the power. I charge 4 to 8 batteries at once using two ISDT parallel adapters. I will push 40 amps on just one channel or both. Those Smart chargers are good for plug and play but if you're an enthusiast looking to get the most out of your batteries and you have a few, you need the umph to get a wiggle on then you need to go for an iCharger Duo 4010. Epic charger, just epic. If you have 4 x 5000mah charging at once you can push 20 amps and it's still only 1c, you need 40 amps to charge all four at just 2c so as you see, when you want to get a lot done at once and save all the farting about these Smart charges are just not powerful enough.
I think the point of this video I guess from what your relaying is that this is a charger for the hobbyist and maybe not for the enthusiasts? The charger that you're talking about from memory or those types of chargers require an external power supply that supplies 12 volt to the charger that you're charging batteries with that definitely becomes bulky and more pricey and maybe not necessarily what most people going to the hobby store are looking for. I agree with you on the charger that you're talking about but you can't say that somebody isn't serious about a hobby if they're not as enthusiastic as an enthusiast 🤫😜👍💯 or if they're not using a $500 setup for charging batteries.
@@rcguygarage I agree with you. I should clarify. By enthusiast I mean a guy or gal that is into it enough to have a ton of batteries he or she takes out at the same time as they have a lot of vehicles and such. It is true that my setup cost a lot more than this charger but it is all housed in a metal tool box. I made a portable rig for it. I guess you could also read into my comment that for someone I would regard as an enthusiast level with batteries would enjoy more power and maybe if Spektrum made a more powerful unit it would become an option for folks like me, and we are many. I like Spektrum gear they just don't hit the mark on the higher end stuff. It is what it is. I can't image how long it would take to charge 10 4s and 4 6s batteries on even their big charger. You would have to charge them all the day before, it would take so long because even if you used parallel charging it would not be able to push enough amps to charge them at even 1c. I stand by what I say, they just don't put out enough power for someone that is an enthusiast with a ton of batteries and cars. No hate, just fact. I was joining the debate.
😂🤣 how is it a proprietary charger? That's a good one👍 It's got a balance port on it SO It can charge any battery out there other than maybe a TRAXXAS one 🤪😂🤣
@rcguygarage the problem is if the innocent beginer buys an RTR with spectrum batteries then they MUST use a spectrum charger for the batteries. That's what is meant by proprietary and yes we should not be supporting the company.
Do you still use points ignition or are you coil on or old school HEI???? See what I'm saying? Think about a guy do you have to go to the TV to change your channel anymore or do you sit back on the potato with a remote in your hand? And you had better be laughing your butt off on my comments. 😂🤣
