I have a couple of question on this smart charger! I just bought the Pro Boat Blackjack RC boat and I run either a Dynamite Reaction 7.4V 5000mAh 2S 50C LiPo Hard EC3 or I use a Dynamite Reaction 11.1V 5000mAh 3S 50C LiPo Hard EC3 or i use a Dynamite Reaction HD 11.1v 5000mah 3S 50C Lipo Hardcase EC5 For BlackjACK!!! Would you recommend this charger for these batteries I listed above for my RC boat???
TheRcSaylors Hey Guys, so I decided to buy this set up for my RC. I have noticed it’s so much more in the UK. :( Around £190 batteries £80 GBP Great video thanks .
I just went full Smart Esc, battery, and charger. Teamed up with my spektrum radio, I now get to see temps, volts, rpms, and more. 4 screens worth of data, truly amazing tech for RC!
Literally just bought a car and this charger...mannne this video helped me sooo much i was lost reading instructions...thank you so much now my batteries r charging and i shuld b having fun in a few hrs!!
MY UPDATE: I bought this charger and used it for almost a month. Initially, I was super happy with it. It worked well and was quiet, only charging up the fans maybe once or twice during a charge (1 battery) for 30 seconds at a time. It worked well and seemed to be doing what I bought it for. Charge and charge well. BUT, once I started to do a couple of things, I hit a snag. Discharging - I could not get it over 0.6 amps discharge, even though it is advertised at 3amps discharging. Charging 2 batteries - It was taking forever! At least compared to what I was expecting. I looked through all the settings and tried to figure out if I was doing anything wrong. Verdict - 2 batteries, it was only charging at 50W per channel. This charger is advertised at 200W and shows on the box at 100w x 2. This is true. But ONLY with an external power supply. The Spektrum one runs at $110 USD, which after spending $150 for the charger is a very steep price! The same goes for the discharging issue. To figure all of this out, I had called Horizon and talked them through my issues, and what I said above was clearly explained to me. This is super unfortunate as it was advertised at 2 x 100w, which even at that price point is expensive compared to the competition. Nowhere is it explained that you would never a power supply to reach this. (Myself and the guys at my LHS tried to find something and could not. ) I love Spektrum and am not here to bad mouth them. Just to explain my situation and what I had to find out the hard way. This is a great charger if you are planning on running their batteries, if not. I would look at alternative options especially at this price point.
I realize this is an old post, but since its stickied to the top, its worth correcting the record. Discharging - Is limited to 5W- so max amps is a function of voltage. Specs should read up to 3A max or better still state in W. Practically speaking, the auto discharge function of Smart batts eliminates the need to discharge on the charger. Watts verdict- Are you sure you are talking the S2100? There is no external power supply option- its AC. On mine, it is definitely delivering 200 W- or darn close. Charging 1 6S in port 1, its doing 7.9A*24.1v=190w. Adding a second 6S battery to port 2 divides the power depending on charge state. In this case, port 2 pulling 139w and port 1 down to 55W. Much smarter than two independent 100W chargers.
I am new to this..and am super confused about the External Power Supply....why would it need an external power supply if it gets power from the wall outlet? What even is an external power supply?
@@LayneSteighlee It needs an external power supply because it can't provide enough wattage through the built in power supply. People purchase power supplies (like Meanwell) and then wire those up to the charger.
I have been using this charger for about ten months now, with the Smart Batteries / 2200 mAh • No chaos to report and I would recommend this charger and the new batteries (Smart Technology) Gary from Michigan 😎 ✈️
This is the perfect time to make the investment :-) You probably wont even realize how much stress and extra work and money you will he saving yourself!
Your review is Gold Brother. Video was made b4 its time. Covid and all this work from home stuff thats happened the last year or 2 has brought a Ton of new people to RC boat plane and the car hobby. I got a OG blackjack 26 that I saved my money up for when i was younger and i remember the first time i chsrged a battery i totally blew it up !! I put electric tape over the bottom and I had to have the hobby store owner set the charger manualy for me to the correct batteries i had. He gave me 2 new batteries no charge and off i was boating in my local lake. Anyways. Jump to today when i have a son and want to bring him into the RC world and get him outta the house !! (Away from the Br headset xbox etc) I got him a Gieco 17 V hull and a Miss Gieco 36 for myself. Im SOO PUMPED to charege up our batteries and go to the lake and Rip around together. Sorry for the rant ! Your Videos have brought back many memories and I thank you for that ! Cheers mate and happy Rc'ing !!!
Appreciate you answering ALL MY questions about the smart battery charger , You did amazing job and I feel your excitement , funny you made this 2 years ago , about how long I’ve gone dark in the hobby , and now gearing up for 2021 and needed to replace A LOT of batteries and I wanted to gain some fast intel before I ordered !!! Thanks AGAIN 💥💪
@@TheRcSaylors yes I found the 2200? I was looking up smart batteries in 3s . Smart batteries are about 1/3 longer it seems to get close to the mah I have a v1200 coming ,:) as fast as I can get it lol . have you had any issues in smart batteries length in some of your perhaps older BFM models ? I’ve been studying and measuring some of my older planes the smart batteries length / tad thicker might be issue ? I also fly helicopters I’ll have to stay with my current batteries / charging system there . But yeah for Bind in fly models I can see where the smart Technology be cool to use liked you shared , no thinking about it . Any thought on the 10NX ? Back order if want it . But thought it be cool to upgrade just thx fact all my bind fly or newer is stored in the radio , def. makes flying faster ! 😎💪 my Helic on V-bar radio
No issues at all with size of batteries, so far! Lucky for us, airplanes are usually very forgiving with their battery compartments and provide ample space for larger batteries. No all are this way of course, but many are. Regarding the NX10, I'd go with the NX8 for best bang for your buck. If you can swing it, yeah get the 10! Updating via wifi is worth it alone in my opinion. Also, you can transfer all of your old information from your old radio to your new one ;-) If you don't mind, please consider ordering your stuff through our links. It does help to support our channel and family! Thank you!
Charging bag: You recommend using a charging bag. I have this same exact charger and batteries, however the balancing port and charging wire pigtails are so short. There is no way to get the batteries into a charging bag when these batteries are connected to the charger. Obviously airflow is important, so I don't think placing the entire charger and batteries in a charging bag together would be a very safe alternative. What do you do when charging this particular setup?
S2200 that’s almost all I’m gonna say…… Buy once, Cry once! I just got back into this wonderful hobby and got a Dxe6. 2 months later I got the NX8. Didn’t make the same mistake with the charger. Just got the 2200 and never regretted it. Love the V1200. Can’t wait to see your thoughts on it. I went from the extra to the viper and then the v1200. Awesome planes all 3.
Is load balancing activated when the smaller wire is connected? At 3:57 you say if you want to balance your battery at 0 .1 amps charging rate it is not recommended. Is not the better rate of charging and balancing better at small amp rate, then something which is greater amps and a shorter time to bal/charge? Thumbs up.
Game changer! I’ve been in and out of RC hobby for years finding my way back now. Definitely going to invest in batteries and charger. Thanks 🙏🏾. Love your channel watch all the time, first time commenting.
Happy to have you commenting Darren! That's right, this is an absolute game changer :-) Worth investing in now. Lots are going on back order very quickly I've noticed. Happy Flying!
Nate, Great video and really made me feel comfortable with the new technology. I just received my A-10 64mm warthog BNF as well as the new charger and a 6S Spekrrum smart battery and I can’t wait to get it up in the air! Aloha!
Seems like a nice bit of innovation for the hobby, though with a couple of caveats: 1. I noticed it defaulted to charging Nate's 2200mAh LiPo at 3.3A (1.5C). I'd rather see the straight-from-the-factory default be set to 1C, as that promotes the best pack health (longevity). If the user wants to override to charge faster (within spec, of course), that's fine. Maybe it just trips a pet peeve of mine, but I don't think defaulting to an accelerated rate is in the best interest of the "don't bother me with the details" kind of customer. Save that option (and the consequences/risks) for the customer who cares enough about quick charging to choose it on purpose. 2. Remember that the self-discharge feature in the pack works by slowly dissipating energy as heat. Generally, LiPo-safe containers are designed to contain heat and fumes. If your pack is inside one of those, be aware of the potential for heat build-up during the self-discharge cycle. Even well below combustion levels, exposure to significant heat (say, from multiple packs self-discharging in the same container) won't help and may hurt your battery. Mostly, just use good judgment in how you store these packs. This is especially relevant since a key attribute of a self-discharge system is that it will engage automatically, regardless of whether you are around to monitor it. Personally, I see the self-discharge function as the most useful part of the system. Over the years, I've had a few LiPo packs that developed premature "hangar rash" from being left fully charged for too long. That said, the Spektrum line is relatively expensive compared to non-Horizon Hobby brands, so I'd have to be mismanaging and shelf puffing a lot of batteries before the cost-benefit would reach break-even. The auto-configure function is cute, but honestly the utility of it is pretty limited. Calling it a hassle to take a few seconds to punch in the charge settings is way into the deep end of first-world problems. The biggest advantage I can think of is that it reduces the chances of fat-fingering a setting. If you are prone to misfiring on the cell count or seriously botching the charge rate, then I guess that would be beneficial (assuming you aren't willing to devote a little more attention to the entry process). Ironically, my Hitec charger already includes a safety check on the cell count, so I'd have to double-fail to mess that up. It remains to be seen whether the pack history serves any useful purpose. Aside from arbitrary statistics, I'm not sure what it gives you. The condition of the battery can be reasonably well understood by its effective vs. published capacity, as well as any physical deformities (swelling, etc.). Since usage circumstances are anything but uniform, things like cycle counts don't mean much. As the saying goes, there are lies, damned lies, and then there's statistics. For those who predominantly operate within the Horizon Hobby world, I can see the attractiveness of this system. It fits with the Horizon Hobby philosophy of premium (in grade and price) products that are beginner-friendly and side-step the nerdy aspects. Outside of that group, it's a harder sell. Apologies, Nate. I'm sure you weren't asking for *that much* feedback! Hopefully something (anything?) in there provides good food for thought. :)
I too noticed the default high amp rate. Which is fine I guess if you're in a big hurry to get a battery charged, but not good if you plan to make the battery last a few years. It seems most chargers default to max amp ratings for the given battery, and you have to manually turn it down. I am not a big fan of Horizon Hobby. My first dealing with them was when I bought a $1400 drone and it came with a defective camera. Even though it was still under warranty (still just days old) they refused to replace the camera, and told me I would need to "buy" a $500 replacement camera. With spare batteries, flight case, hand held gimbal for the camera, and small tv remote size one-handed controller, I spent over $2000 on that drone and with a defective camera I got very little use from it, and it now just sits in it's case unused. A couple years later I bought a crawler truck from them. With less than an hour use the steering servo burst into flames! They not only replaced the servo, they upgraded it to one that cost about 3x as much as the original. That somewhat redeemed them a bit, but I still have a sour taste from my first experience with them with the defective drone camera. Now that they have taken over so many other R/C companies they've changed their business model where they list things on their website but you can't order them, they are listed as "in stores only", and I can never find a store that actually carries the product, and they don't allow anyone to sell the product online. So... Horizon Hobby is the "last" place I will go looking for any R/C stuff.
@Duck Landes That’s a bummer about your first experience. My own experiences with Horizon Hobby have been very good overall. I suppose even the best of ‘em have a bad day now and then. I gather most of the in-store-only merchandise has to do with promoting the hobby shops, trying to keep them relevant and in business. Remains to be seen whether that is a successful strategy. My guess is it won’t accomplish much. To really make a go of it, the shops need more than “exclusives” gimmicks. And in the meantime, the overall company hurts itself by (1) artificially making it harder for customers to do business with them, and (2) redirecting that business toward a channel that has significantly higher overhead costs (retail vs. online). Unless you can make up the gap on impulse purchases and organic repeat business, those inefficiencies will eventually take their toll on the organization. In case it sounds otherwise, I’ll add that I really do like and respect Horizon Hobby, and certainly wish the best for them. They do at least their share of the innovation in this hobby, and generally put out quality products that can fairly command a premium.
Chat Pollman: Does Horizon Hobby really innovate? What products do they design or produce themselves? None as far as I know. They buy from other companies, and buy other companies and "rebrand" them with the Horizon Hobby name. The drone I bought from them was a Blade Chroma, a rebranded Yuneec drone, sold exclusively by Horizon, with a camera made by CGO. Horizon didn't make any part of it. The crawler I bought from them was made by ECX, and sold exclusively by Horizon. They didn't make any part of it. When the 2nd Gen of that crawler came out, still made by ECX not by Horizon, I wanted one, but could never find one because it was "in stores only" and according to their store search no store within the 300 mile search parameter (the max their search goes out) had it, and it was not (is not) available anywhere online. The one good thing I will say about Horizon Hobby is they are really good at keeping replacement parts in stock for the products they sell. I do see the reasoning behind forcing people to physically go to a hobby shop to purchase things. But that doesn't work for me, I don't drive so even going to AMain 20 miles from me is not really do-able, so I buy online. I would prefer to support my local hobby store, but it's cheaper for me to buy out of state, pay more for shipping rather than paying California sales tax. I personally don't see Horizon as innovating anything. They're just a big corporation that buys up other companies and sells their products as their own. My next RC crawler will be a Redcat Everest Gen8 :>
I have the 2100 and 3 smart batteries. I'm looking to take the next (safety) step and get a fireproof/explosion proof bag. The batteries have pretty short wires and I believe I should keep the charger outside the bag. Are there extension cables available to accomplish this (batteries have two connections to the charger)? Is this a recommended approach? Thanks in advance for the help.
I just purchased this charger today and I’m so glad I did. It seems pretty easy for someone like me (no good with numbers). And I do have smart batteries. But being new to using RC cars, I still have so many questions that I just can’t find answers for online. But the thing that concern me the most is storage, cause I know those batteries can cause fires if not careful. I do have a charging bag, and an ammo box, but, 1. where in the house should I charge the batteries? Does it have to be outside, and do I have to be sitting right next to it during the charging process. 2. Do brand new batteries need to be charged right away? 3. Can a battery explode even when at storage charge? 4. Where in the house should I store them when traveling or away from home? I heard that in the garage, but you how it can get pretty damn hot in there during the summer. Is it safe to store them inside in air conditioning if they are not being used? Any guidance will be appreciated .
I recommend a Bat-Safe to store and charge LiPos. Don't waste your money on those bags because they just don't work. Search RUclips for "Lipo Fires" and "Bat-Safe" and you will see what I mean. The real danger in LiPos is charging them or letting them get exposed to too much heat. Just sitting at a storage charge at a normal room temperature there is little danger--if there was a serious danger, hobby shops wouldn't store the for sale on the shelf. I keep all 22 of my batteries in four Bat-Safes. The Bat-Safe has an engineered limit as to the amount of energy can be safely stored (222Wh). My fifth Bat-Safe is used exclusively for charging. I keep all of them stored in my house and remain in the same room when charging. I am very confident that since I use the Bat-Safe within its engineered specifications, and fire and soot would be contained. The Bat-Safe retails for about $60. Well worth the investment to be safe and have peace of mind.
What an awesome batter charger,,Got alot more going for it than the Vemon, Will look at that later on in the year...got something else to get 1st...All going well it will be tomorrow I get it....
So here it is over a year later... @TheRcSaylors what is your opinion after a summer of flying on the whole Smart battery product line? Couldn't find a follow-up video. If available, the URL of the follow-up would be great.
Seems neat. But I have a few concerns 1. With a little reprogamming of the onboard battery chip it will be possible to limit the cycles you are allowed to use the pack. If the pack can last 100 cycles, they might only allow you 40 or 50 cycles. 2. What if the self discharge malfunctions and now you are left with a dead pack. Or worse, heats up enough to cause thermal runaway. 3. They make the batteries and charger talk to each other. Meaning company X will not charge a company V battery and vise versa. Who is to say that it would stop at that because it could also be done to esc aswell making you brand loyal throughout 4. Now that there is an extra wire in the plug, you simply can not solder on what you use. Forcing you to use adaptors. Not a problem if th x60/90 ect become standard. It is cool to see easier technology but there are alot of things that can go wrong or the companies can do to limit your choices or to drain your pocket book even further in a fairly expensive hobby. These are mostly what ifs but something to keep in the back of your mind. When i first started using lipo after getting back into the hobby i was scared. But after a few cycles got comfortable with how to charge and storage charge my lipos.
1. I suppose that tech is available, but I really don't see them doing that, at least not any time within the next few years as one day it could be viewed as a mandatory safety feature? 2. We still think you should always store your batteries safely and that seems like a bigger "what if" than basically all other battery scenarios. 3. Every battery and charger is universal currently ;-) 4. I don't personally see that being a problem. I just bought a few converters like five years ago and still use the same ones. I'll do the same for a few IC3s ;-) Just my opinions. Glad to hear yours as well. Thanks for tuning in!
I just got this one today. I noticed my spectrum batteries don’t have the charge rate on the stickers but I see the batteries online and they all have charge rate on the stickers. Can I charge my spectrum 5000mah 2 cell smart batteries at 12 amps? As far as I’m concerned I never have to buy another charger in my life provided this one holds up. I’m tossing my prophet sport lipo charger
Hi Nate I just received my 11 00 smart charger from spectrum great suggestion I love it I love the fact that the batteries have a chip in it and it's a no-brainer they will automatically discharge you know without charging them or discharging them with the charger thank you so much for that suggestion.
This us really cool.. but I'm a little bummed now. I literally just bought a charger the t240 duo which so far a really like it. So sounds to me though, the key to a long life battery is storage charging when not going to be used for a week or more?
Oh absolutely you do not want to leave your batteries charged. Still, enjoy the charger you just bought. Just know that this exists for your Birthday ;-)
@@TheRcSaylors could you answer me a quick question please I just got my senton 3s today in the manual it says to be sure to set the ESC for lipo but it don't tell me how. Not that I can see anyways. Could you tell me how and if I have to do that please...
Could this be used to charge from a car battery, in the field, too? I see the DC port marked on it. If not, can you suggest a charger that will do AC and AC? Thanks, Rich
I am new, and I just purchased the Venom ProDuo. Wish I'd watched this first. Lol Oh well, there's something to be said for redundancy, right? As always, thanks for watching. Steve
Can you help me in here? I have the same charger using the smart 4s 5000 100 c lipos. When i use both channels at once only one channel charges at the prefered 7.5 A once the other much lower. Can i set up the charger so it could use the same current to both channels or not ? And if so is that a problem one battery is charging that way? Should it affect its performance and life span ? What is the purpose of having two channels if you can't charge properly a battery set ?
I have the umx A 10 thinderbolt II,and I have to say that the IC 2 connector battery it uses is not a good fit due to it being seemingly impossible to find anything by spektrum that will fit the plug to enable charging
I am new to smart batteries. As such, I have some questions. My background is in fifth-scale gassers and after buying an Arrma Infraction along with a pair of 5000mah/50c batteries with the S2100 batteries, I have a ton of questions. So here goes. I set my smart batteries to self-discharge after 12 hours. But I did not know that it takes an average of 6 days to do so. So what happens if 2 days into that over-long discharge cycle, I want to use those very batteries? Will I be able to charge them? Won't I interrupt the automatic self-charge and damage the batteries? (These things are damn expensive.) Please help.
How do you charge to spectrum smart batteries on a venom pro quiet charger mine doesn’t seem to be working right the fans keep stopping is that normal or am I doing something wrong
I have this unit, but I have a question I've been charging 4s 100c batteries no problem, and my 4s 50c dont charge. When I put the 4s 100c batteries in my kraton 8s the 4 green lights on the controller work, but when I put the 4s 50c batteries in kraton only 1 green light. Any. Ideas. Horizon told me maybe esc but I think it's the batteries. Please help
Complete noob trying to work out what charger to get. Have 2 x 2200 spektrum 3s batts. Wonder how long it would take to charge these with the s2100 ? Thanks.
No. The Spektrum S2100 is an AC charger and does not need a separate power supply. Spektrum does make two Smart DC chargers, and those require a power supply.
I'm a newbie and want to go spectrum smart technology all the way. I have concerns about battery connectors matching the plane I want to get in to. Ie. Umx turbo timber.
This or the venom duo? An im not technical I just bash and. Barge and store. Just basic weekend stuff. Which would you recommend? An the fact I have to buy and solder adapters for XT90 (all my plugs) doesn’t make it more appealing lol
Good question! If you dont want to think about bats at all, and just want to bash for fun (sounds like this is you) I'd go with this charger. The Duo basically does what this charger does, except this one is easier for beginners especially and takes a lot of thinking out of the equation for everyone in the hobby. Also, before you go soldering, just buy one or two adapters, or a new XT90 with bullet plugs 😉 That's what I did, for just a few bucks and saved a ton of work. I truly hate soldering because I'm just bad at it, lol. Hope this helps! 👍⚓😃
TheRcSaylors yea but you’d still have to input for NON smart battery’s though wouldn’t you? Or does it read most of nine smarts too. If not woukdnt be much diff. Plenty of how to on the duo seems simple enough. An for $85 instead of 150$. Just don’t know if I’d use the smart battery’s enough. I have a couple batt. brands I use that has treated me very well. But if it auto reads (for most part) non ones than that would be a deciding factor.
what extensions and where to buy them extend charging and balance ports so I can use my Batt-Safe to charge please help cant find any help on this thanks Ken for this great 2100 charger.
I got the parts from Tower Hobbies for use on m Bat-Safe. Love the Smart charger and Smart batteries in conjunction with the Bat-Safe. Two Questions 1) Will my non-smart EC3 batteries charge on this or do I need adapter on charge cable? 2) Will I be able to use a “Storage” mode for my non-smart batteries?
Yes, you can us it with non-smart batteries with EC3 connectors, and you can also discharge these same batteries to storage voltage. In my opinion, Nate is correct when he said that the Smart Technology is one of the best innovations in the hobby.
I have two 3s Lipo Spectrum batts 5000mah / 111v / 100c and when I charge both this charger errors with an output over charge error... what can I do to avoid it and be able to use both charging channels? The charger and batts are just days old with 2 cycles on them.
Hello I have a question about lipos I have a 3s lipo batteries the cell counts is 3.846 3.856 3.857 I haven't used the battery yet because its winter this is my first lipo is any good.
Nice charger! Right now I will stick to the Venom charger. Its been a good charger. Now that I finally know how to charge, its simple as reading the numbers and pushing a few buttons. Investing in a good charger as a beginner it is smart to invest in something like that. As with all new tech, I generally like to wait a year before jumping on the band wagon. Even with planes, it generally takes me longer to go after one. If they have bugs, I know it and can adress it because of your video's.
And there is Nothing wrong with that at all :-) You're right too, once you learn it, it's really not bad at all. Still, taking the worry out of having to balance charge our batteries is a nice bonus. I myself am looking forward to using this all flying season long :-)
You have to purchase a IC3 to IC5 adapter for most Spektrum Smart chargers. The adapter is included in the S1100 AC Smart charger, so if you buy that one, you do not need to ourchase it separately.
Two questions. Do you know if the smart batteries go into hibernation mode and Does the charger have any way to use from a vehicle or would it require a inverter. I saw something about ( never connect to 12 volt with car engine running ). Thanks for the heads up.
So if i fully charge my lipo battery and use it until it runs down and dont use that battery again for awhile, will it automatically discharge itself or do i need to put it back on the charger and select discharge to discharge it?
If you fully charge your battery, and use it 'till it runs down that's just a depleted battery. It's not great for your batteries to leave them discharged for long periods of time. It would be wise to put your battery on the charger and set it to storage mode if you know you wont be using it for a while.
I have 3 Smart Spektrum batteries...so if i charge them and run them in my monster truck and deplete them, is it ok to leave them depleted for say a few days and then recharge them when i am ready to run again? Just if i k know i am not going to use my batteries for weeks at a time i should put them on my Spektrum charger and put on storage mode? Like when do i actually have to put on charger and use discharge mode? That is what i am unsure of..like when i have to actually discharge the batteries
Being that it is backwards compatible, what voltage setting do I set it at for a 5000 mAh 22.2v 6s lipo that's not a smart battery? The highest setting is 4.25
I don’t have time to watch the whole video so will it charge every single type of the smart battery’s? Also is it easy to just charge like no programming or anything?

TheRcSaylors Hey Guys, so I decided to buy this set up for my RC. I have noticed it’s so much more in the UK. :( Around £190 batteries £80 GBP
Great video thanks .
@TheRcSaylors can you do a video of the update for this charger for the new G2 version .
I can’t sleep this charger has me so excited. My life got ten times easier today. Rc isn’t a hobby for me it’s life
I just went full Smart Esc, battery, and charger.
I just purchased the S2100. Works great.
(Myself and the guys at my LHS tried to find something and could not. )
I love Spektrum and am not here to bad mouth them. Just to explain my situation and what I had to find out the hard way.
This is a great charger if you are planning on running their batteries, if not. I would look at alternative options especially at this price point.
Could you explain you need a power supply?

Thanks chris!
VERY AWESOMELY COOL! Yes! Just got a truggy and was bewildered on the charge/discharge maintenance. This will help a lot.
Hold on my friend! Did you know there is a gen 2 version of this stuff out now?
@@TheRcSaylors yes I found the 2200?
I was looking up smart batteries in 3s . Smart batteries are about 1/3 longer it seems to get close to the mah
I have a v1200 coming ,:) as fast as I can get it lol . have you had any issues in smart batteries length in some of your perhaps older BFM models ?
Thank you!
Thanks you so much, I have so many doubts and you always have a video that answers all my questions !!!
Love the videos I bought some of you rcs off eBay. Glad I can support you guys!
Thank you so much for the support
S2200 that’s almost all I’m gonna say……
Buy once, Cry once!
Great show these batteries are great looking forward to using them with my new charger
Thumbs up.
I predict this system will soon dominate the hobby battery market. It's amazing what this company has achieved while keeping the price reasonable.
Very much agreed :-) Well said Bryan!
Aloha!
Best video so far perfect explanation
Can I charge a 5000mah 3s with the adapter because the battery plug is bigger than the import on this
Seems like a nice bit of innovation for the hobby, though with a couple of caveats:
Well worth the investment to be safe and have peace of mind.
also get the smart checker with the charger to check the battery and set the discharge time
Cool cool thank you for a good simple video
Awesome stuff. Definitely will be ordering a charger and a few of those smart batteries real soon. Thanks Saylors!
Absolutely Harry :-) Let us know what you think after using it for a while. My guess is you're going to love it!!
What an awesome batter charger,,Got alot more going for it than the Vemon, Will look at that later on in the year...got something else to get 1st...All going well it will be tomorrow I get it....
That’s why I only use Spectrum products they so easy to install and use
Thank you for this video, it answered my questions.
Glad to hear it! You are welcome 👍😁😎⚓
Thanks for the tutorial
So here it is over a year later... @TheRcSaylors what is your opinion after a summer of flying on the whole Smart battery product line? Couldn't find a follow-up video. If available, the URL of the follow-up would be great.
Seems neat. But I have a few concerns
Who is to say that it would stop at that because it could also be done to esc aswell making you brand loyal throughout
3. Every battery and charger is universal currently ;-)
4. I don't personally see that being a problem. I just bought a few converters like five years ago and still use the same ones. I'll do the same for a few IC3s ;-)
Just my opinions. Glad to hear yours as well. Thanks for tuning in!
Always updating technology . Great job guys..
Thanks for tuning in Paul :-)
My balance connector would not plug into the 4 pin receptical. Charged without it. What’s wrong? LiPo 3200 & S2100 charger. Thanks
About to order an armma big rock 1:10 . I'm also ordering a spectrum charger and battery .Should I also get some dean's plug's?
I 50% charge my batteries every 3 months when in storage.
I was wondering when someone would get around to making a smart battery for planes and such like the drone batteries. Way to go horizon.
Could this be used to charge from a car battery, in the field, too? I see the DC port marked on it. If not, can you suggest a charger that will do AC and AC? Thanks, Rich

Hey, I have question, How do I get my charger to do the split screen I just updated it???
With the S2100 charger, if I only used one charging port to charge a lipo, would it charge at 200 watts or is it capped at 100 watts per output?
Is there a difference between the ac charger and the dc charger other then the price difference
Can I charge a LIPO battery with a XT60 connection using an adaptor on the Spektrum S2100?
The new tech ....keep it coming!!!
Love teching out for an episode or two :-) Might see what else I can find!
Do you need a balance board or do you plug non "smart" battery into the balance port?
You plug non-smart batteries directly into the balance port.
Is it possible to slow-charge a LiPo battery by plugging into only the balance lead of the S2100?...
Can this charger let you charge above 1c?
Yes, you can set the charge rate.
I have the umx A 10 thinderbolt II,and I have to say that the IC 2 connector battery it uses is not a good fit due to it being seemingly impossible to find anything by spektrum that will fit the plug to enable charging

Does it have a discharge function for storage charge on older batteries?
Can this charger balance the cells if they are unbalanced? Only options charge / storage/Discharge, and I can't find a software update website 😥😥😥
thanks for the great videos . does this charger have same connection as the typhon?
Where do u get Dean battery connectors for these batteries?
Arrma has ec5 will these batteries and system work fine with that Plug? Thanks.
You need a converter to IC3 which you can make or they sell it also
whats better hobby mate d6 duo pro charger or the Spektrum S2100
so I bought smart spectrum batteries running ic5 and confused about the charger saying ic3 compatible i got a 1c3 conversion to ic5 will this work ?
i am convinced, Spektrum here is my money
They make a great charger! Well worth the investment 👍😀⚓😎
So it needs a power supply? If so, where/how is the power supply connected to the charger?
TheRcSaylors wow didn’t think of ic3-4mm female then 4mm male to XT90. That def helped.
TheRcSaylors is it true it’s only actually 50w? An to reach the 100w X 2 you have to buy extra power source

Nate can we charge a 3s on one side and a 6s on the other side at the same time?. Thanks 😊
Wow this is amazing
How long does it take to charge a 3S 5000mah battery at 5 A? Thank you
I would always charge batteries at the 1C charge rating, and it sounds like you are. That should take very close to an hour to charge.
Can you charge in the field? has it got a DC input?
Spektrum is the only brand that makes smart lipo batteries?
Do you have to plug the power cord in every time to charge your batteries or is their a power button to turn it off and on
You have to plug it in to start it. There is no on/off switch. Here's a link to the manual: www.horizonhobby.com/pdf/SPMXC1010-Manual-EN.pdf
Two Questions
1) Will my non-smart EC3 batteries charge on this or do I need adapter on charge cable?
2) Will I be able to use a “Storage” mode for my non-smart batteries?
Yes, you can us it with non-smart batteries with EC3 connectors, and you can also discharge these same batteries to storage voltage. In my opinion, Nate is correct when he said that the Smart Technology is one of the best innovations in the hobby.
Robert Yanacek - Thanks. But, have read too many bad reviews today to buy it.
I have two 3s Lipo Spectrum batts 5000mah / 111v / 100c and when I charge both this charger errors with an output over charge error... what can I do to avoid it and be able to use both charging channels? The charger and batts are just days old with 2 cycles on them.
Do you know any good recommendations for a good . Replacement tires and rim's for an armma big rock 14mm ?
Quick question. I have male XT60 battery and want to charge it with my Spektrum S2100 charger. What adapter do I need?
How long does a smart battery last in your remote control car when you are running it
What car? It really depends greatly. Could be 15 minutes, could be two hours.
Hi,
Are there connector adapters for batteries with XT30 and XT60 connectors?
Thanks.
Hello I have a question about lipos I have a 3s lipo batteries the cell counts is 3.846 3.856 3.857 I haven't used the battery yet because its winter this is my first lipo is any good.
Do those fit on the traxxas x MAXX
I myself am looking forward to using this all flying season long :-)
Can you use an EC5 connector on this charger?
You have to purchase a IC3 to IC5 adapter for most Spektrum Smart chargers. The adapter is included in the S1100 AC Smart charger, so if you buy that one, you do not need to ourchase it separately.
Two questions.
Do you know if the smart batteries go into hibernation mode and
Does the charger have any way to use from a vehicle or would it require a inverter. I saw something about ( never connect to 12 volt with car engine running ).
Thanks for the heads up.
How many AMPS AND VOLTAGE DO U GO TO OR DOES THE CHARGER DO IT ON ITS OWN
So if i fully charge my lipo battery and use it until it runs down and dont use that battery again for awhile, will it automatically discharge itself or do i need to put it back on the charger and select discharge to discharge it?
The highest setting is 4.25
So how do you charge umx 2s batteries
that is a very nice setup that is something i will check out all my stuff is gas or nitro i am looking into some electric trucks for my stable
I don’t have time to watch the whole video so will it charge every single type of the smart battery’s? Also is it easy to just charge like no programming or anything?
Once you set em up the first time yeah its just plug and charge
