It took me 6 videos looking for the information you provided. Thank you for explaining the amperage settings calculated by the Mah. That was for me the most basic information needed to understand how to get the right settings for a non smart battery.
I have to say this was a excellent video. I was on the phone with horizon hobby and talking about this and the tech had no idea on what I was saying about amps and volts and he said he was a tech with spectrum division. I just hung up and you really give a great explanation on the charge rate by taking the mah of a battery and if its 5000mah the charge rate should be 5.0. At horizon they had no idea on what I was talking about and you did that very simple. another example if you have a 3200mah just set the charge rate to 3.2volts. thanks bud and Im hoping im understanding you clearly also.
You understood very well what I was saying. One thing to keep in mind is that more and more batteries can take higher charge rates. Look for Charge rate on the battery. If it says something like "2c charge rate" You could charge a 5000mah battery at 10 amps. Though I have a really hard time recommending that.
This is a great video and very helpful. Even better than the spektrum video. The problem I had was the balance lead not installed correctly until I figured out it had to be on the left side. Then I didnt realize the circle was the essentially a scroll when and I had to move in circles. Its also great that I dont have to buy a G2 charger just the programmer to update it.
Very true that the balance extensions would be helpful. Especially since there are more and more chargers coming with those plugs in the way the spectrum charger has them.
Auto storage & spectrum smart Lipos (set to 72 hrs). Does this mean you don’t have to plug in and power to storage if you didn’t use the battery within 3 days? Also how many weeks of no use would you be happy to leave the smart spectrum batteries on their own before recommending ‘set to storage’ or is the auto discharge good enough.
With auto storage you wont have to do anything but verify or change the setting. After its programed time frame the battery will draw itself down to to storage level. There should be no need to set to storage beyond the batteries ability to do it for you.
Great video! I'm new to the hobby and just purchased carbon cub s2 and I love it. I bought few extra 3s 2200 liperior Batteries. I have a the spectrum smart charger that came with RTF package, after watching your video it made me realize I can't charge my new batteries using my current charger? This is what I have S120 USB-C Smart Charger 1x20W Any suggestions? Do I need to buy a new charger? Thank you
Hi there. The only reason you would need a new charger is if you have a G2 battery. Its pretty easy to identify as it will have no balance lead coming from the battery. The basic s150 charger is only $35 and the newest versions will have a foil sticker on the box to indicate that it has been updated with the G2 software. If you find an old one there is an updater cable (SPMXCA100) that will update the software. unfortunately the cable doesn't work on your current charger.
If you have a gen 1 battery it will work on any charger. you can tell if you have a g1 very easily by checking if there is a balance cable on your battery. If there is no balance cable it wont work on any charger expect the Spektrum branded chargers.
So I have a question. I was charging both batteries once it was done after the second beep I went out side for about 6 minutes when I came back in side to disconnect I noticed the charger was off . I disconnected the batteries but the charger did not turn back on ! Any ideas? Could it be it fried the charger?
I have bought two of these s2100 Smart chargers and have been trying to charge one 6S spectrum battery and two 3S spectrum batteries and both chargers will not do anything. I plug everything in it doesn't even recognize the batteries in the channels I try and charge it gives me the warning to charge without the balance lead plugged in, which it is plugged in. try to charge anyway by clicking yes starts for half a second and then says abnormal battery connection. this happens on both chargers and with all batteries.
That is a combination of the SPMXCA311 and a squid from almost any manufacture. plug the Spektrum adapter into the charger then the squid into the adapter
I got another question for you I have a spektrum 3s 800mah 50c with a jst plug any idea on why it wont let me change the discharge time like on all my other batteries. I usually set them to 48 hours but this wont let me do that? any idea???
I think you are asking about the auto discharge setting in the battery? That is because the JST plug doesn't support the functions of the micro chip that are in the "smart" batteries. If your batteries do not have that 3rd grey cable between your red and black wires then your battery doesn't support the auto discharge function.
I have this model but screens are different. Is it supposed to automatically balance the cells. I often have some max min between the cells as much as a .25 volts.
It will only balance the cells if the balance lead if plugged in for the g1 batteries and will balance automatically with the g2 batteries. If your cell voltages are off after the charge is completed then you may have issues somewhere. Chargers will balance near the end of a charge so if it is still charging the be patient the charger will fix it. One thing to note that if the batteries are off by a lot, it make take the charger several cycles (one cycle meaning one charge and one discharge) to balance out a battery.
@@Hobby365 thanks. I have a spectrum G1’s and HRB’s. I can charge and balance them, but after a recharge they get out of balance again. Sometimes as much as .25 of volt.
How do you get the split screen to show both charging ports at the same time? My S2100 only shows one at a time and I can't find any setting to change it in the system settings.
Hello there! I would recommend 1c charging. Take your 5000 mah and divide it by 1000 that will equal 5 amps. Then multiply your 5 amps by 1 to get a 5 amp charge rate. Note: Some batteries have a 2c or greater charge rate. That rating will be listed in your battery specs. If your battery has a 2c charge rate then multiply your 5 amps by 2c to get a 10 amp charge rate.
This charger will tell you when it is done with a green boarder. The only way the charger will incorrectly charge the battery is if you set the charger to the wrong setting.
I have a smart technology 5000mAh 50C battery by spektrum for use with this spektrum s2100 charger. When i plug in my batteries, it will not detect the battery and will not charge. When i try to charge it, it says that there is no less detected even though it's plugged in properly.
That sounds like you have lost cells in your battery pack. There are multiple checks the charger does before charging your battery. The one it is failing is the check that the voltage on the cells match what the chip in the battery is telling the charger what it is. If this is the case you would need to replace or warranty your batteries.
Dear all Need help. After two months charging, everything was working perfectly. Today was doing same procedure, as soon as I press start charging, no reaction. Don’t know what to do. Sounds like maybe you have battery issues. Do you have a volt meter you can check the battery voltage with. The batteries you have should not be under. 12 volts. if it is you have bad batteries.
Most of the time when the charger doesn't charge the batteries it is a problem with the batteries. You might try a voltage or lipo meter to verify that the cells are above 3 volts each. If they are below that threshold you have batteries that are not safe to charge.
@@RoopsPhoto I would not recommend trying to recover batteries.
