You worked that wig over into a complete new unit. You must be a license cosmetologist the way you cut them layers in w that razor. It looked great. I wonder if theres a way to leave some of the hair sections the original white so it looks highlighted. It would take some careful wig dipping into that bowl of dye I guess.

Ok so I got a wig, it's not super light blond, more of a dirty blond and it does not go with my skin tone so going to try this method to spice it up. I have a few different color ones as you can see as my profile pic but I wanted a different one. Anyway!! Gonna try this method and hope for the best. Thanks for the tutorial.

Lola Gonzalez Oh, I'm sorry it didn't work for you. It might depend on the type of synthetic fibers your wig is made with.
Oh it's ok. I am going to try the alcohol paint and see if that one works. :)
This tutorial is awesome! I've tried the sharpie/dye method. It really doesn't work well and isn't reliable. It also melted the glue that attached my wig hairs. Thankfully it was a cheap wig.

Sunflowers2925 Thank you so much. I am not sure. I have only used Rit dye on blonde or white hair. I don’t know if the brown color you have will change color with the Rit Dye.

Sheryl Brown You are welcome. As far as I know you can only dye white or blonde synthetic wigs. You can not lighten dark color synthetic wigs. 😊

You should be able to see some nice highlights in darker wigs, like if adding red to a medium brown wig. That is what I did after seeing this video. Not sure for adding hue to a black wig. But I want to try it.

On the bottle it says not recommended for 100% polyester and acrylic .. will it still work?

I would suggest black. If you want a different tone of black like off black or black/brown then you could mix colors.

Shay Amour is there a way i could do this with curly hair??? i wasnt sure cuz i know the water is hot and i dont want the curls to come out too much
Shell Bellz You might be able to. The dye still process on the hair if the water is not extremely hot. If the curls do drop I would recommend using a curling iron on a low heat setting. Use a curling iron that is not ceramic or titanium. You can also re-curl the wig with flexi rods or perm rods and place the wig in hot water. Then let dry. 😊

Hello! I tried to dye a long blonde synthetic wig black with RIT dye and would only turn silver... then I tried it again with IPoly and again the wig stayed a silver colour! What did I do wrong? You can look at my channel and you’ll see what happened..

Liza Danque No. You can only dye a white or blonde synthetic wig a darker color. You can’t lighten a dark colored wig

Can this method be used on weaves as well??
Yes. Only works on platinum blonde or white hair. Rit Dye does not work on dark color hair. You will need to bleach dark color hair first and Im not sure if it will work after the hair has been lifted.
Do you HAVE to rinse it after dying it??! Or can u just squeeze the hair and let air dry???!

The dye stays in. Does not bleed or stain.
I'm worried about putting it in boiling water it won't melt it? I know if I put a straightener on it it frys
chefani ladypants You want to let the water cool off for a few mins. You can cut a piece of hair from the wig and test in the boiling water to see if it melts. The wig I have the hair did not melt.
I followed all these steps and yet my wig isn't picking up the color at all. Where would I have gone wrong or why won't my wig pick up the color?
I realize this post is months old, but who knows, it could still help someone...
Are you using the regular RIT dye (like the pearl grey dye she used) or their "Dye More" line (like the graphite dye). The Dye More is specifically formulated for synthetics whereas the regular dye is for natural fibers. It'll sometimes work on synthetic wigs, but that's more blind luck than anything else.
Does this dye work for human hair blend hair?
Yours Naki Yes. The wig I have in the video is a human hair blend wig.

I tried this and sadly it did not work at all :(( I was using a yellowish blonde wig with a very dark brown dye and boiling hot water. I left it to sit in the dye overnight and all of the dye washed out!

Didnt work at all for me wig is still blonde but the inside is now blue :(
You have to use the dye more for synthetic materials. That's why her grey didn't turn grey only the cap inside the wig turned because I doubt she noticed she had two different types of dye
