- I learned about this lovely method through arda-wigs.com. I tried using Rit Dye and Dylan Dye but came up with little to no results. IDye Poly is the only thing that works this fast and produces such strong results!
This is where I purchased my wig: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...
And the dye: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...

Since I'm still getting comments on this video I just wanted to make a little reminder that it's always a good idea to watch the whole video and read the description box before asking a question to avoid asking something that has already been addressed. Also, just in case it's not common knowledge please don't use pots you make dye baths in for cooking. This pot is a dedicated pot for stuff like this and is stored separately from my cooking pots.♥
Thanks ma'am but pls I need the name so I can get it
This is the only synthetic hair dyeing tutorial that i have seen work and where i was able too understand what to and how to do. Thanks for making this 😃 im going to order this dye today
french toast Thank you! You have no idea what that means to me. I really strive to make my videos clear and concise. I got really frustrated trying ink and other dyes and getting lack luster results. Once I found out about this method I knew I had to make a video.
WOW. I am looking to dye my wig turquoise, and this looks amazing. I’m excited to try.
HOW DID IT GOOOOO???!?
I had so much fun with this idea. Thank you for your help I applied the technique and it worked perfectly. Just remember wash it very well to get all the left over color out...Thanks again.
+JShana Patterson I'm so glad it worked for you and yes washing it out thoroughly really important.
Thanks for this! Ordering my 3rd wig from Arda and was looking into dyes for a Harley Quinn costume, happy to see they sell this stuff and I can buy it right from them! Thanks so much for the tutorial! Definitely convinced this is a good choice!
Good ol' Arda Wigs. ♥
Thank you this video was so helpful! Right now I am looking to dye a tightly curled wig that is an ugly two tone blonde with red. But you reminded me that hot water pulls the curl!
Thank you for being quick!
It's my specialty.
thank you so much for this!!! this is super helpful! i know the struggle of trying to dye synthetic hair all too well. ill have to try this haha
+trey keel The struggle is real! haha
Omgggg I love this tutorial!! I need to dye a pearl white wig bright red I hope they have the dye and it works !!!
+Lili Beci Let me know how it turns out. ^_^
So useful and cool! Thanks!
^_^
Love this definitely want to try this.
+Wessam Shafek Let me know how it goes :)
gonna experiment with this. thank you!!
Have fun and let me know how it goes ♥
so helpful gonna do this tonight on a wig i got that was too light!
+Hannah L. ;)
girl the fact that you got it so vibrant and not pastel is making me so happy i dont know where i could get that idye poly stuff from tho =[
+BeautyBy B Craft store, Amazon, Ebay, Walmart, etc.
Thank you so, very much!
;)
thank GOD for this tutorial omg
+misseccentricemily ^_^
Thank you for posting this tutorial! This is a great method and I'd feel comfortable wearing a wig that was dyed in this way!😅
♥
thank you. this is exactly what i want to achieve. perfect x
;) ♥
Wow the pink turn out great, I had to watch your vid to see how the pink dye would turn out.
The thumbnail didn't let you know? It's still satisfying to watch though.
Hi! I tried using that fabric dye on my synthetic hair extensions but it didn't take at all. Do you think it was because I didn't use the color intesifier? I'm trying to figure out why my synthetic has not dyed with any method I've tried
If you use the silver or gunmetal color in this same brand of fabric dye, do you think it will take to the fibers? I want a metallic silver finish, but not sure if the dye will help me achieve that. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!
I would start with white because this method does not lift the hair color only adds to it if that makes sense.
hey!! do you think this method will work If I put the boiling water with the dye in a spray bottle and make some gradients? I'm not sure about it and I definitely don't want to use the sharpie method...
greetings from Argentina!!
+Agustina Monzon Hi! I don't know if a spray bottle would work because it might cool down too quickly and it needs heat to work. It still might work though maybe if you work really fast. I'm sorry I don't know.
Amazing color! I dyed my blonde wig with this method to purple and it worked wonderfully! Only one question; the lace dyed also, how I will get the color off the lace? Will it vanish in washes ooor?
You can't get the color off that lace. I dyed a lacefront of mine and had to put concealer on the lace every time I wore it.
Hey, does the wig have to be a blonde color? Or just a light color ? Because the wig I'm thinking of ordering is silver like a light silver. And I wanted to do a lime green on it, do u think it would alter the color ?
+Anna K Just a light color. I think a light silver might work even better than blonde too. Let me know how it turns out.
Hey luv🧸can you please assist me in what color will turn a black synthetic to light brown plz?
Quick Question: Did this dye the wig cap underneath. I need to dye a wig black but I would like the skin part to look like skin still. Thanks!
Yes, the whole wig was dyed.
If I have a light brown (almost reddish) wig can I turn it dark brown with this method? Or would it be better to use a very light blond wig? Thanks for the video!
It's possible but it would be better to start with a light colored wig. Thanks for watching.
I have to dye a very specific part of my wig black. Basically like on both sides I need two black circles. The rest is light blue. Could I dye it all blue and use a tint brush to apply the black? And is there a way I could thicken up the fabric dye? I can't buy the wig in the colors I need anywhere. It hasn't been made.
I would dye it light blue and then use some other method to dye the black circles(maybe sharpie or fabric paint if you don't need it to move) since you can't thicken the dye bath and it need to stay at a certain temperature in order to work.
THANK U!!! I have 4 synthetic wigs that I would like to dye, different lengths n styles.I have been trying everything felt like I was doing a science experiment..lol n btw where did u get the dye from n how much does it run?
Check out the description box.
i want to do a half and half with a red and black color with the opposite color ombre (if that makes sense) would that be possible? and would i have to get a red or white wig?
Yes and I would get a red wig because you can dye any color black so that means less work for you. :)
Thank you for sharing this video. Would the fabric dye also work for braiding hair? I've tried alcohol inks and they don't seem to work well. I would like to make my orange hair a more natural copper auburn colour. Do you think this is possible to achieve?
This works on synthetic hair and you can only go darker than the base color
Hi abit late but I have a black and grey ombré wig and I want to do the bottom blue would it work?
If the bottom is light grey it could work other wise you'll probably get a murky blue.
hi, here's hoping I don't sound too stupid but...I have a wig I'd like to re-dye. It was given to me so I have no idea who the manufacturer is and can't find out if it's heat resistant. I did google a few tricks how to test it and ended up using a blow dryer on the hot setting on a strand: nothing happened so I'm about 80% sure it's safe to try your technique. BUT would you by any chance know what happens if you try boiling a non-heat resistant wig? Would it melt?
using this to dye my blonde synthetic wig green!
+Alexis Daley Nice!
I'm planning on buying a 39" yaki lace frontal and dying it the same color as you did for Princess Bubblegum. I was wondering if you ever used this method for lace frontals and if you know a way to remove the dye from the lace? I know her crown might cover the roots but I really like the idea of having a realistic part.
I have used it on a lace front wig and it did indeed dye the lace but it didn't look to bad because it was a purple and I used a sharpie to make dark roots. I think I used concealer on the part instead of powder because it gave it more coverage. If I were you I wouldn't risk it unless you'r okay with dyed lace.
Few questions..
How long did you leave the hair in the water?
Did you wash it immediatelly after you put it out of the bowl?
+Anetta Cukanova Your answers are in the video :)
How long did you leave it in there? I just bought the color "Kelly Green" and my wig is white and I want it to be bright green...I'm afraid that If I'll leave it in there too long It'll get too dark or isn't it going darker?
In the video I say I left in in for a few minutes so I must have left it in for a few minutes. I also say in the video that for a lighter dye put in quickly and take it out quickly like a second or two.
i'm worried about the fumes even if i open the windows and doors, would it work with room temperature water + just waiting for the packet to dissolve? thanks! great vid!
+Ennaira555Warriors If you're worried about the fumes then I suggest putting the boiling water in a bucket and do everything outside. I have tied letting the dye bath cool to room temperature and then dying a wig but it didn't work. It needs to be really hot maybe not boiling hot but really hot for it to work.
+Rainbow Redwood sounds good thanks!
hi! i just found this. do you think if i used cold water i could dye a curly wig without losing the curls?
No, it doesn't work that way.
Is the wig still as soft as before?
Does the dye come off? Like does it say on fingers and can it be washed off?
Yes and no if you rinse it well.
hey i just bought a black synthetic wig and i had got the blue colored dye,now i no it wont make the wig actually blue, but will it leave a blue tint when light shines on it?
+KorTeisha Newbell Are you asking a question or teling me what happened? If you dye a black wig then it might have a tint to it in natural sunlight if anything at all. If there is a tint it will be very slight and almost not noticeable at all.
This is so cool! I will definitely try this! Do you know where I can get the dye besides Amazon?
Craft or fabric store.
Thank you!
I'm trying to do a cosplay, and couldn't find a short brown wig anywhere. so I cut a blonde one and tried to sharpie method... I'm definitely going to try this!
I too considered the Sharpie method but the mess and time looked like a headache.
Rainbow Redwood your method works so much better!
I can't take all the credit for this method because I discovered you could use these dyes through Arda Wigs.
understandable :) thanks for your great demonstration of it though!
understandable :) thanks for your great demonstration of it though!
I have a question I have a wig that is fuschia colored do you think that it will turn black if I use black fabric dye? and is this due at Wal mart?
+Praise Love I'm 99% sure it would.
Rainbow Redwood yay thanks for this answer!
+Praise Love did it became black?
flora sd I'm doing it this week
+Praise Love oh ok! i have a brown wig and I want it to be black so please let me know how it turned out^^
i love your voice!
Thank you, that means a lot because I tend to talk too loud so I try to talk at a a reasonable volume when making videos. It doesn't always work but I try.
Do you have to use the salt with it? I've never used fabric dye like this before.
+Rachel Mansell Nope :)
Oh cool :D Thanks!
I have read to only apply cd water to synthetic wig. will this hot water not destroy the wig?
+flora sd Did you watch the video?
Does this fabric dye transfer onto skin and clothes once it's been shampooed, rinsed, and dried? I wouldn't want to get caught in the rain or in a white shirt and have it come off on me lol. Please let me know, thanks!
If you rinse it properly you will be fine. I have not been in the rain but I have worn a white dress while sweating with a wig I dyed using this method and it didn't bleed.
Cool!
;)
Hi can I use this method on black braids? Or do I need like blonde braids ?
Blonde
How does the heat from the water not warp the wig? It's still bringing down from a boil, can't that damage the fibers?
+torikkusuta Synthetic hair fibers are different from plastic that comes on packaging or plastic bags. Also I don't think plastic bags get warped when you put boiling hot water on them either.
Wow that's awesome! I am so used to having my natural hair dyed pink, but i don't want to damage it anymore lol so i would definitely try this because i love my pink hair! Also, where can I buy the dye? have you ever bleached a synthetic wig b4?
You just buy a pink wig or a light colored wig and then dye it to the pink you want. I'm not sure I would recommend bleaching a synthetic wig, but I don't know too much about how bleach would affect the fibers as I have not heard of people trying this before
+meekah919 castro I didn't see this comment till today so my apologies for not responding sooner. I used to dye my hair all the time too but once I got committed to growing it out I had to find other ways to have fun colors without the damage. I bought the dye online (description box) but they sell it at craft stores too. You can't bleach a synthetic wig since the fibers are nonporous and the pigments in synthetic fibers are the not same as how hair is pigmented.
I have a brown wig that i want to dye black, do you think it will work?
yes
Awesome video!! Will this work with a black synthetic wig? I was thinking of doing this to the ends of my black synthetic for an ombré look
MsLady Lex Since it's just a dye it won't lift color. You can color a black wig but it's will just have a ever so slight tint to it that can be visible in direct sunlight but it's not worth going through the whole process for.
Rainbow Redwood oh okay, makes sense!! Thanks!!
+Rainbow Redwood Could you do an gradient thing by starting with a light wig and dying the top black or whatever and the bottom something else? You would have to do it twice and it might be a bit messier (like outside job messy) but it could get that kinda look couldn't it? Could even do a real ombre by sticking the ends in first and slowly lowering it into the water and then once the top goes in just pull it right out (or the reverse depending on which end you want light vs dark).
+tash moore You could but it would be difficult to make sure you only get the roots because there is no margin for error. To get the dark roots look I dye the wig then sharpie the visible roots. I have ombred a wig by slowly dipping it in the dye bath and it works beautifully.
That's what I meant. Dip it slowly until just over half (like 60-70%), let that dry and then do the other side in another color for a gradient instead of ombre. There would be some overlap in the middle. :)
if the hair is purple and black can i use this method to get it brown
no
If anyone has done this can you tell me if it bleeds onto your clothing or does the rinsing take care of that?
I have done this and it does not bleed on my clothes. I have even worn white with no bleeding issues.
I tried this technique and my wig got all matted and knotted. It also went from straight to knotted curly look. Do you have any tips to restore the wig back to a somewhat straight look? Also I can not get the intensifiers scent out of my wig or the excess dye out? How many washes did it take you for the water to run clear?
+BeautyandBellsPalsy My wig was a little tangled so I combed it out and used a flat iron to smooth it back out. If your wig is not heat resistant a blow dryer on low heat with a wide tooth comb attachment should work. I washed mine maybe 4-6 times with dish soap. As for the smell of the intensifier washing got it out for me. I did have one wig that was harder than others but I just washed it more times. When washing the wig take your time and try not to tangle it more when working the lather through. Also take your time rinsing and rinse thoroughly between each wash. The washing and rinsing part is the longest and most tedious part but it's worth it in the long run.
+Salena Leveille My friend did that to one of her wigs and it came out great.
where did you buy the dye and how expensive was it?
Description box.
Hey would this work for a synthetic weave?
great video btw
Yes it would.
Say I wanted to dye my red wig black, would that work?
yes :)
Would this work to ombre a wig i have an idea of how but honestly im scared
Yes but it's easy to mess up.
you said the dye was stinky, does the smell last on the hair??
Not if you rinse it properly.
Hi does this work on synthetic braids as well ?
+Mia Clarke Yes it will work on both, the loose kind of braiding hair and the prebraided/pretwisted style.
whats the longest amount of time you can leave the wig in the pot for?
I don't know for sure. I would Assume at least 30 minutes to an hour but these dye is so strong that you anything past 5 minutes is not necessary.
i bought the same dye and the guy at the store told me to put vinegar in with my wig, should i?
+BigOlBaddie I don't know. I didn't do that and it worked from me. Maybe the vinegar helps neutralize the smell. I don't think it will hurt but I know it's not necessary.
Does the color come off on your clothes? Great tutorial!
***** It can if you don't wash and rinse thoroughly and it can take a while to do so. I have dyed 3 wigs and the color hasn't come off on my clothes even while wearing white. And thank you! (:
will work with any colour wig if using black colour
+manny perez I believe so.
Hi and thanks for the video it's excellent you did great work can you tell me how to do the roots thanks in advance
I use a permanent marker for coloring roots but it does fade when you have to wash the wig and will have have to be touched up every so often.
Rainbow Redwood
Thank you
Reading the comments below, is it true that dye has to be ordered and from where?
You can get it online or at a craft type brick and mortar store. There's a link in the description box to where I get it online.
If you get the hair wet afterwards, will it bleed on your clothes?
Not if you rinse it properly.
Thanks for responding :)
I️ did this and I️ absolutely love the result but I️ shampooed and conditioned mine and the dye is coming off on my hands after being almost fully dry. Does yours do that? Idk what to do
this is the first video I ever saw of you.
When did you see it? And hi!
Thank you so much . Big awkward moment save ^ ^
+Ida van S ^_^ ♥
I have a black wig can I dye it to grey using this technique? isn't it too dark for it be grey? :(
No, you must use a white wig for that.
Rainbow Redwood Thank you!
can you do ombre with this?
Yes, but it's really easy to mess up.
How do u do this on a curly unit..w/o losing the curl pattern?
+jazz 03 You might have to do this process and try to replicate the curls after. Since this uses boiling water, you aren't going to be able to do this without losing the curl.
+jazz 03 What Pastel Rivers said.
would rit dye right for synthetics worl
Yes, I tried it recently and it worked great. Did you end up trying it?
What was the liquid packet u put in ?
It comes with the dye.
How could I do this if I was dying half of a wig and didn't want to get any color on the other half of the wig?
I'd say your best bet is to gather all of the hair you don't want to dye, put it in cling wrap, and tape it shut securely. For the part that doesn't fit (if any) masking tape--several layers of it, covered by a plastic type tape would ensure the dye doesn't get on any hair you don't want dyed. :) Hope this helps~
+Liv Duff Thank you very much! I'll try that!
If you get wet in the rain what would happen?
Your wig would get wet.
Did you only use one pack ?
Yes, and you can dye multiple things in one dye bath.
Hey would this method work on 100% polyester hair?
+Reanna Permaul I've never heard wig fiber referred to as that but yes it will work. This fabric dye is for polyester (hence the name) and other synthetic fabrics.
Lol i'm super new to "hair" and I was super paranoid. I ordered my black 454iDye poly packet on its way in the mail! thanks so much, such a big help
+Reanna Permaul Let me know how it turns out.
How many washes till color fades?
It doesn't fade.
will it work with cold?
No it won't.
Where did u get that wig
It's in the description box.
The dye doesn't stain the pot does it??
I used a stainless steel pot but it doesn't matter because you shouldn't be using it to cook food after you do a dye bath in it.
@@rainbowredwood Okay thank you for letting me know 😊
will the dye stain your pot?
I have a stainless steel pot so it didn't stain but I wouldn't use a pot that I cook food in for stuff like this.
does it stains or transfers to clothes ?
No
I tried this with IPoly and my wig was blonde and it turned silver instead of black. I tried it twice and it doesn’t work. I’m wearing a silver wig even though I didn’t want to.
What did I do wrong? I followed everything you did here.
The dye is called IDye Poly so you probably used the wrong dye.
Rainbow Redwood I got the name wrong but this is the dye I used though, I bought it at my local arts and craft store.
I saw a video on your channel and you said you used Rit Dye (in the description)which is not iDye Poly.
Rainbow Redwood yes I did try RIT Dye at first then a few days later I tried IPoly, hoping the IDyePoly would change my silver to black and it didn’t work.
Rainbow Redwood I’m not trying to say that I Dye Poly doesn’t work like you’ve shown here on your video, I was just wondering was there something I did wrong, or some step in the whole process I missed.. I’ve seen several videos on this subject and I even tried to dye my burgundy wig black with IDyePoly and that didn’t work either.☹️
Can you use the Rit Dye on it
+shanta parchman Sadly no.
Can you wear the dyed wig in the rain??
+Anu Yew Yup but make use you have it rinsed out properly.
Rainbow Redwood Thank You.
Quick question..Did the die ever rub off on your clothes?
Nope :)
Can I use rit dye?
I suggest using what I used
so pretty does it fade?
+pixie moon Nope :)
Oh okay awesome (:
Is it possible to burn or melt ur wig ?? And if u want it darker do u use less water or just more dye ?
Maybe if it's like a Halloween wig or something and yes both can get it darker.
can i dye a dark brown synthetic wig lighter with white or blonde fabric dye? do you have any tips on maybe bleaching it?
+Fabs No you can't :(
how high would I need to turn it up in scared of melting my wig lol
Lightly boiling is best.
ok thank you!
How long did it lasted?
Forever
+Rainbow Redwood I am talking about the wig after you dyed it! it didn't mess with the quality of the wig?
+Diana Jackson *? I meant a question mark instead of exclamatory mark, I apologize.
It's permanent that's why I said forever.
I'm guessing doing this with curly hair is a bad idea
Nicole Revels it would remove curls and turn them either straight or just wavy
♡♡♢♢☆☆ New subbie!
Welcome to my channel! ♥
why hot water?
That's the label instructions.
