Oh my goodness that was one of my mom's favorites. We sung it in afrikaans and i think it was called Meer Heiligheid. I turned 78 on the 5th of Sept. and i lived now with my son, but i will go through the books i gave the kids and somewhere must be a old Hallujabook with this song in for i remembered singing it out of a book. I'll let you know. Baie dankie vir die storie en die lied. Hope you understand afr. 😜
A beautiful Methodist Church song that I learned many years ago and one we sang in our Seventh-day Adventist Church way more often when I was a child than today. I wish they would sing it more often. It is so theologically sound and has a good tune to it as well. Thank you for sharing it, Brother Luke
A Fond hymn sung often at Our church Main Street Baptist A lovely quaint church In Alton illinois I love every word God Christ Need His people to slow down Listen hear His faithfulness His likeness Thank you Luke
This is a beautiful hymn sung in Australia by mainline churches. I learnt it when a child & have sung it up until today & often sing part of it to myself during my night watches. I enjoyed singing it with you & my mind boggles that it has critics as to me it is reminding us to have the foundation of our life built solid on the Rock which is our faith in Christ, so that when we go through our day we are on solid ground having spent productive time with our Lord. It reminds me of Jesus when he spent many hours (all night on some occasions) in the presence of the Father before He started his ministry & each day before He went about His Father's business.
Wow! What hymn. I'm going to have to see if there is music for this so I can sing it for my church. Thank you for sharing your research. It adds so much more depth and meaning to these songs that should not be lost.
The song is in my 1991 Southern Baptist Hymnal listed as hymn 446. Your explanation of the lyrics makes the song rich and brings out the devotional aspect of Hymns that A. W. Tozer always emphasized. Any great commentator of the word, yes Pink and Spurgeon included always quote hymns in their works and for good reason. I have a 1951 red book hymnal with a song called “When the Home Gates Swing Open” written by James D Vaughan and music by O. A. Paris. I’ve never heard it in a church service, but I love the lyrics and would be interested in you doing the song if possible.
Beautiful & thanks for doing this Much loved hymn, Pls Luke, can you do- Lead kindly light,,? It took is an old classic from ,,U K.~thanks a lot, God bless
Maybe Sunderland did not do much more that was remembered by musicians, but think how rich his impact as he used his inherited money to support the work of the Salvation Army and later of Moody's UK meetings. And - sorry, Pastor Luke since I love your videos - most of us are not good at remembering the names of those who wrote the lyrics or the music that sings theology into us, but Oh, how I appreciate the fruits of their work. Yours, too, as you go over these great hymns. And yes, I can remembering singing this for the last 70 years. (Main church memories started about age 7.)
Thanks for your encouragement 😊! I Cor.1:30 only by Jesus Christ blood are we made holy. Please sing: Our Father my Shepherd, Carried by the Angels, Lo! I am with you always 💯 th video. Chris Phally on RUclips. Psalm 47:5-6😅. You're doing a very good service for the Lord's body.

Beautiful hymn. Have been singing in church 60+ years. First Presbyterian, Moonachie, NJ
Know this hymn since childhood and we still sing it at church. The world rushes on but we need to take time
This hymn encourages me to keep focus on what is most important.
What a time we are living to follow the message of this hymn! I remember when it was sung at church quite a lot! Thanks for sharing brother!!
We must inspire to be holy as our Lord is holy. Make it our motto: to live is Christ and to die is gain.

I have never heard this song, but it is beautiful.
Please play “ Before the throne of God above”, share the history of the hymn too. God bless you.
Would you be able to do the song " fill me now " by E. R. Stokes / Jno R. SWENEY. IN THE songbook Tabernacle Hyms number 4. Printed in 1943

I'm going to guess that most American Christians are familiar with this hymn.
