For me, the very first line - Be Thou my vision - carries the entire hymn! Having Him as my vision, my focus sets the pace for how I ought to live; whatever the circumstances or whatever comes. Thank you so much. It truly is a beautiful hymn and prayer.
I think what I've had in the last one week is an epiphany where this song is concerned. It's like a reawakening for me and I have felt the depth of this song and the need to FOCUS on the Lord. It is such a deep prayer and it's my new prayer for every morning the Lord gives me... Just like the hymn, JUST FOR TODAY! Thank you for sharing this. I love your voice. 🌹
The first lyrics mean a lot to me. Being transformed by Christ in the mind and putting God first in my life means that everything else can wait and nothing is more important to me. Also its Romans 12:2.
Beautiful Irish tune is called "Slane". Slane is a small village in C Meath, where there is a small hill. The hill is the location where Patrick lit his fire to celebrate Easter. The pagan King ordered his druid priests to challenge Patrick, but of course Patrick had his breastplate and sword to protect him and he was not harmed in the battle. That protection is Our Risen Lord and Saviour.
What a delightful program you have! Your voice is so pleasant to listen to. I enjoy your commentaries and your joy of the Lord. Thank you for your program. I really enjoy it. I especially love this hymn.
Thank you for this. I never knew this.. i love the whole but the line i love most is... Thou in me dwelling and i with Thee one. I'm so grateful He loves me and lives in my heart always. Can't wait to see Him! Come Lord Jesus! Amen
This hymn touched my heart so much ten years ago. It was translated into Polish but it was not possible to sing. This month our Lord gave final words and now we sing this powerful hymn in our church. Praise the Lord!!!!
I love this old tune and lyrics. I've read in several resources that the monk who wrote it was going blind at the time he wrote it. I especially love the verse be thou my battle shield and sword for the fight.
We love this timeless hymn!!! ❤ we sang it our wedding at the Duke University Chapel, Durham, North Carolina. Its words are profound! That a monk wrote it in the 900’s A.D. testifies to its timelessness! What a treasure!
I love that song! It touches my heart every time i hear it. I think it means let me see through Jesus’ eyes, giving me his desires, making his will mine, guiding my every step.
I'm planning to have eye surgery this week and with that comes some anxiety. Thank you for sharing about this beautiful hymn. Alto I want good physical vision, most of all I want spiritual vision to see Him and His glory.
The whole Hymn is wonderful! Truly explains how I love Jesus❤ But one part that really touches my heart "Heart of my own heart..." Those words, to know my Lord Jesus is my Heart! That close relationship, I'm in His heart as well... So close, so safe, such peace that transcends all understanding... Just to be in my Saviour's presence every hour, every second of every day... And for eternity with my Lord!
I know a lot of hymns, but don't remember singing this one, until I heard the music without the words while recovering from covid a couple of years ago. Just a few weeks ago, I heard the stirring and insightful words so excellently expressing what a believer's relationship with the Lord should be. My favorite line is "Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word." 2 Timothy 2:15 📖 Thank you, Luke
I hear this on the radio every day on the way to work. Love this hymn. We use to sing Saint Patrick’s Breastplate from the 1940 hymnal. I wonder what this beautiful hymn sounds like in Gaelic. Be Thou My Vision- a treasure of a hymn. Thank you for your Friday hymn videos.
I didn't grow up hearing this hymn, but discovered it in a hymnal and fell in love with it-- everything about it is so beautiful; I thank the Lord for it
Being of Scot-Irish heritage, I enjoy the doctrine, history etc. For me it has special place. It was sung at my first born daughters memorial service. Praise to the King
Thank you so much for explaining the meaning of this song. It is one of my favourites. It brings encouragement and joy to my soul with tears. ❤️🙏 One day, we shall all sit at he feet of Jesus and worship our God.
Love this! My dad hosted a Methodist radio show every Sunday for years as I grew up, called Vision. The intro was: Where there is no vision, the people perish. He's been a "closet" metaphysicst (?) his whole adult life 🤫😂 This hymn makes me feel close to my dad, who introduced me to the concept and verse. When I grew up, the only name I could come up with for my business was Vision. This song encouraged me thru a tough startup, reminding me of my "why". Thanks for this video.
In Ireland this melody is also used in a folk song: 'Banks of the Bann'. However the folk tune does not quite match the melody in Slane and of course the great lyrics are missing too...
I enjoyed your commentary on this beautiful song. It is special because you have given an excellent interpretation while still asking the listener their spiritual state. Your voice is so pleasant and soothing; a joy to listen to and enjoy The Word.
When we are in a situation, having problems, do not look down at your problems. we need to look up to the Lord Jesus Christ who is sitting on the throne, then you will enlighten to see yourself / your negative side. Repent, He will wash you clean, change you, transform you to grow up into Him and bring glory to His Name. Amen.
Hebrews 12:1-3 KJV [1] Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, [2] looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. [3] For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. 1 John 5:20 KJV [20] And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
For me, the very first line - Be Thou my vision - carries the entire hymn! Having Him as my vision, my focus sets the pace for how I ought to live; whatever the circumstances or whatever comes.
Thank you so much. It truly is a beautiful hymn and prayer.
This hymn makes remember Gods faithfulness ❤
My hymn of prayer reflecting my desire for God to be my all in all.

7:37. "High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art!"
I went up onto The Hill of Tara and stood looking across to the Hill of Slane with it playing on my headphones. Magical.

Am struggling tonight
Mary Byrne was actually Irish not English
I read that the writer got blind later and wrote the lyrics
Hebrews 12:1-3 KJV
[1] Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, [2] looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. [3] For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
1 John 5:20 KJV
[20] And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
