- Lets review five blanco tequilas, espolon, alma, siempre, jose cuervo tradicional, and 7 leguas. All 100% de agave blue weber tequilas, all aged under 2 months.
Blanco is a great category of tequila, it truly showcases the craft of tequila making as there is no place to hide, no long aged oak times to curb the flavor or dull the burn. Blanco's can be pretty aggressive on burn factor, let's see what we got here!
The breakdown looks like this:
Tequila: Alma de Agave Blanco
Nose: Salty, Lime, Sweet Agave, Pineapple, Vanilla
Taste: Toffee, Citrus, Agave, Banana, Spicy White Pepper, Medium burn-factor mid-palate with linger vanilla pineapple
Overall: Love the light sweetness, fruitiness and continued burn factor through and through.
Score: 9
Tequila: Siempre Plata Tequila
Nose: Earthy/Mineral, Sweet Potato, Agave, Grassy/Leafy
Taste: Lightly herbal/grassy, coconut, smooth, cotton candy, sweetness, no aggressive finish / burn-factor, light caramel finish
Overall: Great character, the earthy flavor is unique but I almost love a bit more sweetness of citrus / agave over mineral. But, everyone's going to be different.
Score: 8.5
Tequila: Espolon
Nose: Sweet caramel, toffee, cotton candy, inviting aromas
Taste: Super light, a bit watered down, about 20% of what you smell is in the taste, not a huge amount of character, but nice finish that doesn't burn very much. Subtle a hint of anise in the back-end.
Overall: Boring, but I pushed it up 1/2 star for parties where you need a cost effective solution and I would hate for you to buy into JC Gold by mistake and hate yourself for it later.
Score: 5.5
Tequila: Jose Cuervo Tradicional Blanco
Nose: Mineral, Mild Agave, Black Pepper, but not too too exciting
Taste: Classic agave flavor, good citrus, salt and fruitiness balanced against the agave with a light burnt caramel finish that ends without too much explosive potency. Even a bit sweet, closer to that of alma..like maybe it was influenced by sitting near it for a bit.
Overall: For the price, you're getting exactly what you'd expect from tequila and nothing more. Great for margarita's when guests come over or even a long island iced tea (thanks to the price).
Score: 6
Tequila: Siete Leguas
Nose: Warm and toasty agave, salt, caramel, buttery orange zest, mild earthiness
Taste: Mild vanilla, caramel, cooked pineapple, pine sap, spicy cracked pepper, muted mint notes, low burn factor, medium body mouthfeel
Overall: This tequila brings all the elements together, mineral, citrus, herbs, spice, toasty agave, vanilla...it is the sum of all other contenders in teh market I've ever found.
Score: 10

Drink Responsibly.
awesome seeing you review a product that came from someone I grew up with I was hoping this would happen one day
Siempre?
Yup
I handed over a bottle of Siempre to my buddy Dan and Jaelithe, we'll be drinking it at our next party (well...it will be my bottle, but they have theirs as a gift :)
You've been waiting for the Common Man / Siempre collab for a while now! Haha, we're pretty stoked also. Still a tiny little company. I think the bottles Derrick got are from a batch of 5000 bottles.
Siete leguas and Siempre only ones I’d touch
Nice. once again I was hoping to see something, but le sigh, it's not there. I know you can't include everything, but a $30 cabo wabo is a worthy option. love these quick review vids
yeah, but I don't have a bottle of it :) Cabo Wabo as already our first blind tasting winner about four years ago, so I already know it's up there.
you should try Olmeca Altos plata tequila, it's good stuff for the price.
only Olmeca I've had is in Malibu Red :) That's their base.
i would recommend both Olmeca Altos Plata, and Olmeca Altos reposado, excellant products for a very good price.
Yeah, I've got several regular customers at the store where I work, will NOT buy anything but Olmeca Altos. I'm scared to try tequila, but once I do, that's where I'll start.
scared? What are you afraid of? The end of the world as we know it the minute you hold your lips to the glass? :)
Heh, not really, just have to work past the legend idiots gave it (y'know, tequila makes people violent, etc) and develop a taste for it.
Love your descriptions!
thanks
Great video man love the channel. Need to get that siete leguas. However cabo wabo is great.
Thanks
Sir! Which Tequila has no smell on it?😬😬That good to drink...Sorry for asking coz I will try for the first time to drink ..Thanks
Kirkland Signature Tequila Reposado -- NOM 1438, actually very nice, very carmel-y
Haha, the water does literally run off a volcanic spring!
ha!!
I noticed last night that RUclips had unsubscribed me, so I re-subscribed 😊
lovely to know RUclips hasn't figured that bug out yet.... :/
How do you feel Don Julio silver compares to Siete Leguas? Trying to decide one to buy.
haven't done side by side, but I like siete leguas better, don julio has a slightly odd aftertaste that isn't as desirable for me
Common Man Cocktails awesome, thanks so much!
@@cmcocktails Agreed. I feel DJ Blanco has more of a fake aftertaste.
Always trust these guys
What do you think about the tequila Fortaleza? Have you done a video already?
never heard of it, but if I had done a video you can always use the channel page and click the little search button, I tag as much as possible so people can find stuff.
You should try it, it's made by Guillermo Erickson Sauza. Their family have been making tequila for 5 generations. They use to own and produce Hornitos, tres generaciones, sauza, and others before his grandpa sold them. But now he made his own tequila using the same method as his great great grandfather. A lot of rich history and great tasting tequila.
Saul hernandez CUANTO CUESTA ESE TEQUILAEN MEXICO? NO LO E PODIDO ENCONTRAR EN MICHOACAN.
Need a Costco review panel
never been to a costco
Another excellent video. If you get a chance, try the Espolon Reposado. It is a much better product than the blanco.
Thanks! Love ya!
I think your making flavors up😃😃😃
nope!
I have to ask about Agavales. Where I live (China), it's one of the cheapest tequilas on the market, but it's 100% de agave, while many of the more expensive brands offered are all mixtos. The cost is under 10$US (like closer to 8$), but it's pretty good, and excellent for the price. I have never seen a 100% de agave for the price.
I don't know if you can find it around the US, but it seems like a good inexpensive way to get into tequila.
I've not seen it, but it does seem to be 100% de agave. Even Tequila.net rated it in the high 80's which is pretty insane for that price. I've never seen it here.
Odd thing is that there are two labels. One is for the 750ml 40% alcohol version, which clearly says 100% de agave on the front. Another is for the 750ml 38% alcohol version that doesn't say 100% on the label at all (but it's on the screw cap). I'm wondering if it's because there are two versions of the label for two markets. Perhaps (just speculating) the 40% one is for the US market, where people are more concerned about if it's 100% de agave, while the other version is for Europe, where they don't care as much.
Just a thought. Since I live in China, I get an odd selection. There are plenty of brands and bottlings that are intended for various markets, but some of the shipments end up here. I found one store that sells Polish vodka with French labels (due to the product being packaged and shipped to France, and a portion of that then shipped to China).
Anyway, it's not exactly worth going out of your way to get it, but I'd recommend it, since they are going the Sobieski route and using price as a selling point, that you don't have to choose between an inexpensive tequila, and a decent tequila.
Also, also... I've noticed a lot of replies to fan comments. Major props and whatnot for the fan engagement =D
They do a 100% agave version and a mixto version for Asia I believe.
Hmm, could be, but even the one that didn't say "100% de agave" on the label had it printed on the screw cap. I noticed that there was a Chinese label pasted over the English.
Tastes Earthy, small hint of cinnamon, a scent of Willy Nelson's socks. A lingering note of a damp mop, and a touch of vanilla.
How did I do?
never had a willy nelson sock, but mayhaps!
Hey, we'll take the 8.5 :)
and we've got a bottle of Dan and Jaelithe's for our next party :)
siete leguas in the common man margarita? too much? or a posh option every now and then?
its perfect. it would be what I use (for myself at least :)
Common Man Cocktails yeah, screw the guests that's for damn sure. They can have the espolon!
lol yep! Unfortunately, I've trained all my friends on good stuff so... I have set expectations high :)
Suerte is a good Blanco
El Jimador is the best blanco or reposado for the money.

Gust Subscribed. Could you please do a Review on any of these Tequilas.
San Matias Gran Reserva
Fortaleza
Casa Noble.
Thanks.
If they ever send 'em to me, I would, but I'm not going to buy a pile of tequilas, I did that and that gets expensive. I've only heard of Casa Noble out of that series. However, I make about $1 on a video review with ad revenue, and spend $40 to buy the product so it doesn't work out in my favor :(
@@cmcocktails i feel you bro. GOD I HOPE THEY DO SEND YOU A BOTTLE OF TJOSE TEQUILAS. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR REVIEW ON THEM.
Last watch later
You should only promote tequilas that are traditionally made with no diffusers and no additives. They are always better and not necessarily more, or much more expensive.
Nah, I’m not that high and mighty about tequila
@@cmcocktails : It's not about being a tequila snob. The well made stuff just tastes much better.
I don’t share that same perspective, patron is made the traditional way and it’s boring, flat, with a bad aftertaste. I would rather drink an autoclave product.
My content is for everyone not just die hard tequila drinkers. I want folks to know how everything tastes and if it’s worth the cash, I don’t care for limiting my enjoyment. In the end, I explain it to people and let them make their own choices.
@@cmcocktails : Fair enough. Traditional isn't a guarantee you'll like it but diffusers and additives make for inferior products generally and educating the audience will help them have a better experience. That happened for me. I didn't realize how mediocre what I was drinking was until I was guided to better brands.
Most diffuser stuff is like $20, so that's hard to beat, I don't care for the fact that you can have flavor additives, but what can you do? You can add them to any of the brands, traditional to diffuser so... it's tough to judge. Granted, you'll find them more in diffuser products just to help give it flavor.
Autoclave? Kinda meet in the middle, if you can't tell it's got additives (no sweet cotton candy finish), it's tough to judge it as poor (unless it just flat out tastes poor).
If you find a diffuser product for $50 and a traditional for $50, definitely get traditional...but figuring out which is which isn't easy as it isn't on the label.
Tequila that taste like cotton candy?
Don Julio is good
yep!
I would maybe say that the review was ofcause not bad but i dont like the scaling because there are some more expensive ones that are def a class aboth
the only Q is always is it worth 1to 1 the money ofcause not becaud eits less and less for more you spend but its normal but i wouldnt call a 30 euro or whatsoever emtequila 10 outa 10
I've spent years reviewing stuff and doing cocktails and the one thing I get the most is "why don't you use a scale" lol, but of course if I do then I would get "I don't like a scale", so I can't win.
But, I can tell you why I use a scale. This is more of a buyers time decision, is the products I'm reviewing worth your money. If it's a 5.5 to 10 it's worth giving it a try. The further up the scale it goes the more likely I would be to purchase it. There is no "1 thing can be a 10" option, I can review five products and get five 10s (just not really likely).
Why? Because every product is worth considering but not every product is something everyone can find. If I gave out two 10's in a row and you can only get one of the two, you're a winner. Everyone's a winner if we can score higher than 5 on the products.
+Common Man Cocktails. i like the last point of you and yea you are right not every aroma is for eryone especially vodka is one of it because you can get good vodka already at a low price so most of the rly expensive stuff dont even taste that good for everyone but it has a rly special aromas ... that you cant find on other vodkas also price is often about the label
but i would suggest if you could pin down before the vid how you gonna judge exacly so its easier to understand and dont bring up confusion
I think I put the scale in the first one of these videos I did, I can re-print that in each one, but I don't have time to explain the scale (I've got exactly five minutes to run the entire review), but I definitely call out "it's a pass" if it's something to pass on. I think most people, when they hear "scale of 1 to 10" know that 5 is average and 10 is best.
In the end, it's a judgement on my tastes as compared to yours. If you know my taste you'll have a good indicator of where it may land for you. For instance, if I gave campari a 6, it might be a 10 in your book because you really like bitter alcohols where I don't. So, you still have to account for my preferences vs. your own.
+Common Man Cocktails and i would prob choose personally the zombie as my goto drink in the spring always like to used absith but i rly wanna try still to make a huge twist on on a zombie were i exchange the rum with tequila althrough more juices especially heavier ones like maracuja. but would still need to try the perfect combination out for myself but think this fresh tequila taste can be great mixed with the fruity of the juises and the hint of absith
Traditional over espalon…. Go away colonizer
