Espolón's blanco was the first tequila that I ever tried. At first, I was a bit iffy about it, but I'm currently on my second bottle. It might not be the best tequila ever, but it's a damn good drink for $24.99 in my opinion.
I'd have to agree that Espolon's quality really shines when adjusted for it's relatively inexpensive price. Their Reposado was the same price as their Blanco last time I went to the store and I've found that to be my preferred option as of late. I like to have a bottle of the Blanco on hand for mixing but the Reposado is what I will reach for when I just want something to sip.

@@cmcocktails the first step is admitting you have a problem.....or in your case , many problems! Lol ( just busting your balls! Lol ) God grant Derrick the serenity to accept the things he can not change and the wisdom to change the things he can, and to know the difference between the two! Lol
In Canada Espolon is pretty much the only 100% agave Tequila you can buy that's below $40 along with Cazadors, pretty much everything else shoots up into the $60+ range and anything cheaper than Espolon is guaranteed to be some 51% agave abomination.
Espolon is made by autoclave(low pressure)-roller mill fermented in steel tanks vs Hornitos is diffuser(acid)-autoclave . The diffuser always is more of a chemical stripping of the sugars and starches tends to kill any flavor of the agave so they have to chemically add flavors back into it or mix it with some non diffuser source.. I generally stay away from diffuser for that reason, the higher end stuff never uses diffusers. But if you serve it mixed drinks, nobody is going to care. I bet the drinks at most bars use even worse than these two products. Then you have the PATRON is made the old ways, brick oven, wood vat fermenters, volcanic rock rollers and lots of people working manually.. like 60 workers per bottle.. 7 year old agave plants ... that is why it costs 50$ per bottle and well worth it.. but some just want to chug down shots, not worth it. I serve PATRON and other tequila like it on special occasions as a sipper.. not for some jack @ss that just wants to get wasted.
Patron isn't worth the $50. I understand the process (got a video on the processes and "cheap" ways they do it here ruclips.net/video/hph5Z7tvCC0/видео.html). It's my opinion that, if you're going to spend a lot of man hours on a product and make it the old school way, than do it well. Patron's blanco experience is unfulfilling and leaves nothing of a desire for more, unlike, say 7 Leguas which is a fantastic showing for about $5 to $8 less. I buy based on taste, not on brand and "history". Although higher end stuff depends on your definition -- my definition, probably much like yours, is high end based on the process, not the price. A high end product like "Case Migos" is high end based on price, yet you can taste that cotton candy "diffuser" flavor although they claim it's not diffuser, but they don't say it's autoclave ... they hide it behind it being a "secret recipe" even when people ask. I don't pay $70 for a "secret recipe" that taste like flavor additives and candy.
Good sipping tequila, slightly burning but flavorful. A true value for the price range. The artwork on the bottle is brilliant and worth the price alone.
I completely fell in love with casa noble anejo! Very flavorful tequila with a lot caramel and chocolate and other goodies that my inexperienced palette cant find lol. But last week i grabbed a bottle of espolon reposado and i enjoyed it. Especially for the price point which i got it for 25 bucks after tax! When i really dont wanna fork out the premium price for the CN anejo, this is a winner. Is there a better product for the price tag? Let me know and i will look for it!
Would you guys consider Espolon a good sipping Tequila or is just a better quality mixing Tequila? I usually only get Fortaleza and Don Julio for sipping but they are expensive
you can sip it if you want, but that's not the type of tequila I sip; It's a fine mixer, still would probably pick Hornitos as a mixer, but that's all personal preference when working with $20 tequilas. I believe Fortaleza is often regarded as the best of tequila brands so sipping makes sense.
I bought it blindly. I knew nothing about it. Made a margarita with it and found it to be a darker colour for me with sweet notes. I must be different lol. My favourite tequila is Siete Leguas
I day drank half a bottle and woke up with no hangover and slept like a baby. Does anyone have the similar effect with Hornitos? Actually I have never had a hangover with the blanco. The Anejo and Reposado however did not taste as smooth and i have gotten headaches from them the next day.
having a headache is not always based on the spirit quality. You may find you'll wake with a headache sometimes 'at random', but it usually has to do with the diet the day before. For instance, let's say you have 3 cocktails and wake up fine. The next time you go out for Mexican food (with high salt) and have 3 cocktails... you could wake up with a screaming headache. Total balance of vitamins, nutrients in your body, total water consumption and style of food (and its amount of salt) can impact your next day much more than anything. Repo or blanco, it won't make much a difference as the repo is an aged blanco and has no more or less congeners from the distillate and won't make any impact on your head throbbing.
no, it's better. But only marginally. Considering they're about the same price, I always go with Hornitos Plata when making cocktails for guests that are familiar with tequila at a beginner level.
I love your opinions and your channel (New subscriber). I will say this, I drink Espolon Blanco neat and never have a problem (the same with Casamigos Blanco) so I can't wait to try Hronitos!
My wife dresses me much better than I dress myself. I tell her what I'm into at any given time and she gets the best looking stuff in those categories. I'm a good and very willing cook and she can't cook, at all. So, it all works out well.
Dave G depending on what you're trying to spend, and what you like this is a winner. Im coming from cognac which is really only a sipper, so i flock towards reposados and anejos. They say blancos or silvers are for making mixed drinks only and i see why

Since I saw this video I have bought a bottle of Espolon and I did not care for it. It isn't terrible, it isn't bad but it is a bit underwhelming for a blanco. I was mildly disappointed. I agree with pink shirt's take on it. Many years ago, on our first Valentine's Day, my soon to be wife bought me pink underwear and pink socks. I was in hospital at the time and almost fell out of bed laughing. The gift included a large card with a drawing of a very cute dog on the front. It said "I only have eyes for you.", inside, the doggy drawing was repeated and she had blacked out it eyes and wrote, "The rest of the time I TAKE THEM OUT." That was 37 years ago and she still doesn't complain when I spend money on tequila. Of course I let her dress me. Other wise I dress like crap, jeans and stupid ugly tee shirts with a biker jacket, in the winter.
I just bought this at Costco here in Washington state. I am usually a Hornitos drinker but I love trying new tequila. Omg I got black out drunk and sick after about 4 shots. It crept up on me so fast, so be careful.

My tequila collection is fairly large with lots of higher end bottles, and Espolon is still the most regularly replaced bottle.

If the tequila is cheap and high quality that’s all that matters to me.

Not too bad actually, it doesn't have that awful burn that some other tequilas have; it actually goes down pretty smooth and no nasty after taste
