Ngl, you talking about your struggles and how you were so focused on your own work, made me realize thats what Sada and Turo might have felt. They were obsessed and so focused on their work as they felt they werent much without it and when things had to be sacrificed or lost in their life for their work (like their spouse leaving them in a version of the game or not being in Arvens life) they just put in more dedication and burned themselves not seeing the bigger picture and how it was damaging them.Ive seen you ever since I was 14. You were one of my first poketubers i ever saw. I have got to say thank you for everything youve done for this channel and thank you for prioritizing your needs first. From a toddler to a teen. My goodness this channel has been absolutely amazing it's gotten me into so much more then Pokémon it's got me into biology,culture,history and mythology. But like anyone else Toby deserves to do what he wants with his life
Toby, I never realized until watching this compilation that I started following you so early in your RUclips journey. I was there in the first 6-12 months and I would never have guessed how new the channel was because you have always given your all to these videos. Thank you for the countless hours of entertainment while bored at work, comfort while laying sick in bed, and joy when I needed a good laugh from a goofy guy on RUclips. That said as some one 6 years your senior, I understand what turning 30 feels like and trying to see how your life will unfold. Feeling stuck, scared, and most of all burnt out. You started a career and gave more effort to it than most people in their 20s would any other job. You should be proud of yourself and well deserving of some rest. Take your time, do what you need, and most of all always continue soaring so very high.

What a time to be alive. I first started watching your channel around 5th grade and now i’m a senior in high school entering college in a few months. Your theories are some of the best Pokémon theories i’ve watched and don’t think such passion, dedication, and research will go into theories like this anymore; it was an honor being apart of the journey and community, thank you Toby. You’re my childhood and who contributed to me being a Pokémon fan.
Change is hard but sometimes change is for the good. I’m glad that after close to a decade of working and growth, you’re taking a break; thank you again Toby; stay safe and best wishes, soar high 🫡❤
I haven’t always been a consistent watcher as I’ve strayed away from from Pokémon, yet still buying the new games but barely playing them, so when I have watched your content it reminds me of how passionate people can be about something they like and that inspires me a lot. The way you hold yourself in videos is an example of how an immense passion for something can bring the best out of someone when done in a healthy way. So I hope you do well in your next journey. If you return that would also be cool, but either way thanks for sharing your story.

Sure, the let's plays others were doing were cool, but your videos gave me a deeper look into the Pokemon world and I loved diving into all the lore alongside you. From the Tree of Evolution series, to the Calm Mind Podcast, to your coverage of Detective Pikachu (I still feel nostalgic when my Detective Eevee shirt turns up in my wardrobe rotation), to, of course, the theories. Your content has helped pass the time in such a wonderful way, and 2024 won't feel the same without it. Although it started shortly after I started college, I found you two years into this journey and I've followed it through to today. I always watched late, but I loved every video and found the Evo tree to be so incredibly fun and brought me back to my childhood love for this franchise. At a time when I was stressed out from work and school, I could always count on you to make me smile. Thank you for being that for so many of us. It saddened me to hear it was getting hard on you to continue this journey, but as Ash would often tell his beloved Pokémon, "take a good long rest". Toby, your series on the Tree of Evolution I think is the thing that really reeled me in, though I'm pretty sure you've been on my radar since the beginning of your career. Your amiable personality, and your passion for thinking deeply about the series, have definitely been an encouraging part of my days. While I'm sure we all hope for your return at some point, I just hope you can restore some vim and vigor into your step. Your videos helped me out through high school, one of the darkest times of my life for a number of reasons. When I was trying to be a poketuber (before I felt like I was forcing it too much and stopped) I had a Halloween creepypasta reading special. I was excited when you gave me permission to read out your story and do a video on it with my friend Vossie doing visuals for it to help bring it to life. ive been watching since i was a child(13ish) (im in my 20's now) across a few accounts even my mom's at some point lol. I remember coming home from school or the doctors and watching your videos on the floor of my bedroom for hours loosing track of time getting into pokemon lore and well learning stuff about how this franchise is inspired by our real world in many ways wherever you go or whatever you decide to do you've got this you're really talented :3 . bye bye for now or forever wherever you go from here you're gonna do great.

My Alolan Exeggutor jumper arrived in time for Christmas and now got my framed Tree of Evolution hanging in my office as I watched as this video premiered. Felt very wistful about it all, even seeing you comment how grateful you were for the community you built in the comments as I watched made me feel quite touched in a way i wasn't expecting.
I found BirdKeeperToby through your collaboration with Lockstin on the "This is the end" theories. That grew into finding other poke tubers, listening to podcasts and even subscribing to Falcone during Lockdown and through him I found twitch and that's led to new content for me and now Cuppaphee. My online journey with Pokémon started with you and it is sad that all things come to an end. However, I wish you all the best with whatever you do next and I hope yourself and Phoebe go from strength to strength. One of the great pleasures of being a passenger on the BirdKeeperToby train has been seeing you grow into an amazing person and it shows through the quality of people you gather around you, your charity streams and the good you seem to want to put out into the world.
You don't know me and you might never see this comment etc, etc. But I hope you know that with this little corner of the internet, this channel and the hard work that might not always have seemed worth it or that you took great pride in often, you are a beautiful core memory for many people. One day I'll think about the crystal onix or the evolution of Pokémon and I'll think of you and that will make me happy (and I won't be alone in having those moments).

I have always liked Pokémon ever since I was little playing Pokémon yellow, but fell off after gen 3 because I got older and “I wasn’t a kid anymore” but back in 2018 or 2019 I stumbled onto your channel and it reignited my love for Pokémon again! Seeing someone my age being so passionate about something I truly used to love made me feel like I could still play and enjoy a franchise I long forgot! Because of you I stumbled onto a whole community of RUclips who made pokemon their career and found that this love of Pokémon and games could still be enjoyed to the fullest even at our ages! Thank you for bringing my childhood back to me! This goodbye truly means alot to me. I believe I started watching this channel around when Sun and Moon came out in 2016. I was 10 and in 5th grade, so that was pretty much the peak of my interest in Pokémon. I’m 17 now and about to graduate highschool. Looking at your older videos brings back memories of when I didn’t even have a phone, I vividly remember I used to watch your videos on the RUclips app on my TV. My interest in Pokémon has fluctuated over the years so I can’t honestly say that I never stopped watching this channel, but for the past few years I have certainly tuned in. RUclips isn’t a career I am searching for but it is a hobby I have always wanted ever since I was little, and its channels like these that give me hope that I can gain a following simply out of having a passion and talking about the things I love. I have loved pretty much everything you have done with your content and channel (Pokemon Tempest being my favorite series from you!). It's quite sad to see you go after an amazing 10 years but I can understand and fully respect your decision as to why(I believe I started watching you around Sword and Shield or maybe a tiny bit before I can't exactly remember unfortunately). I do hope that you will come back somehow, someday but only if it's something that you wish to do in the future. It's a sad and scary thought that one of the people that I love watching the most may or may not ever do RUclips again but I respect your choice. I joined this channel a long time ago from another youtube account that got booted. Rejoined here again after that and i have yet to miss any video you put out regardless if i i was sick or not. You were/are one of the biggest parts of my young adult life going to my mid 30s and god damn has this been a ride i am all here for. I remember finding this channel right as the sun and moon trailers were coming out. I thought Pokémon was so cool but didn’t own a 3DS so I was searching for channels to talk about this thing I wanted to interact with but didn’t have the means to directly. These videos gave me that, and they also introduced me to so many other creators that I love to death and continue to watch even know that I can interact with the series in my own way. While I don’t typically do Pokémon, RUclipsrs like you inspired me to want to do my own content, even if I’m still easing into it, little by little. Thank you, Bird Keeper Toby, for everything that you have done for this community. I wish you the best on what you do in your future. I know that whatever it is, it will be great.

I can’t thank you enough for these past years. I started watching your channel while I was studying in my first year of college in 2017, and it not only was entertaining and engaging, but revitalized my love for Pokémon. Prior to you I didn’t play any games between BW2 and Pokémon sword/shield. Ever since I’ve played all the games and watched all your videos. Thank you for your work and passion all these years.
I've followed you since around early 2016, it's been such a wild ride. Truly an evolution. Especially back then in 2015-2019 I was in my own height of Pokemon adoration, following tons of poketubers. Over the years after that I got less and less into the franchise, and followed it less and less on RUclips as well. As I've mentioned in previous comments as well, you're the last poketuber I stuck with, because of the great combo of personality and quality. But you mentioning that it's time to go, feels like it's the right time to for me as well. I still like pokemon, I'm pretty sure at least. I still gotta play the scarlet and violet dlc, which I think I will do. After that, and with this throwback video, I feel like it's time to take some steps in my own life as well. I'd really like to thank you for that kind of inspiration you've been as well.
On top of all that, I met my first online friend, just half a year before I found your channel. I found her through poketubers, and we were both huge pokemon fans. She's been out of Pokemon for much longer than I have now, but we still talk. This year I've finally been able to meet her after all those years as well, and it was awesome (I'm Dutch, she's Australian, we met in Scotland). Another thing where the whole pokemon thing has felt like it came full circle for me this year.
Lastly, I'm proud of you, to see how far you've come and developed. For what we can see of course. Best of luck with your future (I'll still be up for the occasional Zelda theory)! ❤️
I've watched your videos for years, but only recently realised I hadn't been subscribed! Pokemon theories / lore have always been my favourite content to watch and I feel like you are one of the most genuine creators out there, with your content feeling like waffling with a friend about random Pokemon stuff. I've been watching you since summer 2015. I loved how deep in theories you can get me lost in thought about. I hope you come back and if not just a few uploads with more lore and theories as new games come out. But as a 30+ year old Pokemon veteran I understand that life isn't about a game. It's about life and I hope you live it to it's fullest.

While it is sad that this is the end (at least for now), I also think it is inspiring to see you be so open about how you are taking this potentially permanent break for your mental health. Most people don't stay in the same job for their entire life, and many don't even stay in the same line of work for their entire life. People change, interests change, and you have to make the right choice for you, not for the people watching. Sure, we all enjoy your videos (we wouldn't be watching otherwise) but as you said, there's other poketubers out there. You (and any other content creator for that matter) should never feel pressured to keep making content to make others happy at the expense of your own happiness. Taking this break to figure out where you want to go next is so important, don't feel like you need to rush it (anyone who tries to rush you doesn't have your best interests at heart in my opinion).
Personally, I'm probably in a similar position as you were when you started all of this. I'm nearing the end of my time at university, and I find myself at a cross roads. I'm studying to be a teacher, trying to write a book series (since creative writing is a passion of mine), still figuring myself out as an adult (as if we ever truly stop figuring ourselves out since we all change over time), and engaging in hobbies of mine (music, video games, and crochet), and there's been times when I had to ask myself if I was sure this was what I wanted. There's been many occassions where friends and family have tried to encourage me to sell my crocheted works, but I've had enough self awareness to know that if I ever were to try and make a business out of my crochet, it would quickly kill any love I have for it and I would hate to lose my love for crochet. I'm pretty much set on becoming a teacher (I've wanted to be a teacher for longer than I've watched your videos even), but with that, I wanted to share something from my time at uni learning to be a teacher.
In the teaching science course I took this year, we spent a lot of our tutorials doing practical examples of how we could introduce science concepts to kids (ranging from learning the experimental model, taking a census of mealworms as they grew to learn about the life cycle, testing different materials to see which one made the best parachute, to playing around with little robots that could read code in different coloured markers to do different things) and the one that stood out to me the most was when we spent a tutorial categorising different shoes (we had about two dozen pictures of different shoes) into a sort of categorisation tree. I remember the tutor explaining that the best way to get kids (or anyone really) to engage in learning science is to make it relevant to their interests. I'd been bingeing your Ultimate Pokemon Tree of Evolution videos fairly recently at the time and I quietly excused myself from the group I was working with to mention your video series to the tutor, saying that I thought they could be a great resource to use especially if the kids in the class were interested in Pokemon to begin with. She was instantly interested, and asked if I could show her one of the videos, or send her the link, which I did, before returning to my group to keep working on categorising shoes. At the end of the session, the tutor even shared with the rest of the class my idea of using your videos as a potential resource to get kids interested in that area of science, and reiterated the whole point of making the learning relevant to their interests. It's an idea that I've tucked in my folder of teaching ideas, and will definitely use if I ever get the chance to teach evolutionary science, using one of your videos to hook them in, and challenging them to try and make their own Pokemon Tree of Evolution.
Appologies for the rambling (I always seem incapable of keeping things like this short), but if nothing else, I want you to know this: You have been an inspiration to so many people, and you will continue to be no matter where you go from here. Take your time to figure yourself out, there's no rush, and no pressure. If one day you do decide to return to youtube, you'll be welcomed back with open arms from many I'm sure, and if you decide to take another path then I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing you the best of luck. I won't be sad that this is the end, I'm happy that it happened at all.

I've been a fan for almost the entire journey, and while I haven't watched everything, I have absolutely loved everything I have watched. The Halloween specials, Tree of Evolution, and Tempest videos are my favorites, and I enjoyed writing the "Trainer Notes" I did for Tempest that outlined my own journey through the region. It may make me sad to see you go, Toby, but to put it in bird-based language, everyone takes their permanent flight from the nest at some point. May all your endeavors be as wonderful and successful as your time here. Though we've never interacted on any level beyond comments here on youtube, I still feel honored to call you my friend. Sad to see you go, but thankful for all the great content, you've truly been my favorite poke-tuber. Apologies if you've already said this or if someone else already said this, but I remembered you mentioned if you do come back, possibly doing more than just Pokemon; I would suggest the name, "Lorekeeper Toby". Still a reference to Pokemon and your original name, but just vague enough so that you could talk about any other game, really any other THING you wanted. Everything's got lore, and someone's gotta keep it.
Btw I loved your vids explaining the Pokémon world and lore, which gave me appreciation for Sword and the Galar region (my first mainline game) which should’ve/could’ve been better, similar to its era/generation.
Your videos along with many channels also helped me grow fond love for Pokémon as a whole

I haven't consistently engaged with Pokémon since Gen 4, but have watched countless of your videos since then, very much experiencing and enjoying the games and TCG vicariously through you. CuppaPhee just got herself a new subscriber, too!
All journeys eventually come to an end, and I think that’s a good message that Pokémon has taught me. Every single journey began at zero, you slowly build your way to the top and then it ends. Watching this channel has been that journey. Seeing you grow up and find your place in this community has been wonderful, and seeing all the cool things you’ve done, from the theories to the tree to Pokemon Tempest has been a blast. And I realize that eventually your journey would also end.
But a new journey has also began. Not just for yourself but for Cuppa Phee who also makes awesome content. I think that’s a core tenet of the series. One journey ends and another begins, and it’ll be a pleasure to journey with her while you walk your new path. This isn’t goodbye, just so long. This channel was my introduction to the pokemon side of youtube, and it's really inspired me to think deeper about the pokemon world lore. Watching the "Is This The End?" videos is something I recall so vividly, because everything you (and Lockstin) said sounded completely sound. I was fully sure y'all were on the right track! To this day, when I talk about pokemon theories and predictions with my nerdy friends, I always joke about outlandish things that "I don't know... But I'm sure if Bird Keeper Toby made a video I'd believe it." But I think it was the Team Snooze videos that are my favorite thing you made, to this day. I'm sure it was on a different account back then, but I left a long youtube comment about my idea for an evil team based around a hypothetical sound type for pokemon, and at the time I sat back after leaving it and thought "Wow... This is such a good idea!" ...It wasn't, looking back. But as someone who is a creative in every facet of their life, I am grateful to your videos for inspiring me. Heck, just the other day I finally ordered the Team Snooze pin off your merch store! Been thinking about getting something since Team Snooze merch first dropped, and with the store's upcoming closure I knew I had to go for it. I'm so glad you're doing why you need to do for yourself. That is, simply put, something not enough people do. While I hope to see you making pokemon videos again someday, I'm thankful for the years of content either way. Take a rest, you've more than earned it.
