alot of people dont know they did this gig and bob geldof begged knopfler to come over to the stadium as live aid 1985 was on and someone pulled out, they did this gig and went over to the stadium and performed in the biggest concert in our history- live aid 1985
Very sad to see in the news that Jack Sonni, who played guitar with Dire Straits in this performance died on Wednesday August 30, 2023, he was only 68. He played with them at Live Aid and he also played on the band's 1985 album Brothers in Arms, one of the UK's all time, best selling albums. He also accompanied them on the subsequent tour, RIP Jack Sonni.
I grew up (born1983) with my Dad listening to Dire Straits all the time and today, 39years old, I still love their songs and Mark Knopfler is the best guitarist EVER... his guitar is "alive" 🥰 "Romeo and Juliet", "Ladywriter", "Money for nothing" and "Private Investigations" is great too... what am I saying, all their songs are amazing 👍🏻
When you checked out their studio version of Money for nothing you said that it didn't have enough power especially the drums. They played it on this Wembley Concert and it is pure energy. That is exactly what you were looking for. Check it out!
Always love your reactions guys..Knopfler has produced all sorts of musical genres especially when he went solo in 1996. He has 4 times as many songs as a solo artist totaling about 250 songs with ten solo albums. He has a new one out soon at the age of 72. What A legend. Also a really cool song called Calling Elvis - Dire Straits Live On The Night 1993 is one I think you will really love. Anyway I love your channel so much especially when Dire Straits are on. Cheers take care from Mark V. 🎸🎸🎸
saw them live in Chicago that year, 1985. They were at the very Pinnacle of their success. Standing room only crowd at an outdoor venue. As good as they sound in studio, they sound twice as good live. One of the few bands that can say that. Always giving an extra kick to every song they play. They were the best!
@@racinnut77 I think they said that was the biggest crowd they ever had. And they've had some big names there. I remember how it took forever to get out of that place. LOL But yeah, they put on an amazing live performance. They did everything as I recall.
@@flubblert They did set the all time attendance record for the venue. I remember being way up on the hill and I could see a long line of headlights of cars waiting to park. I have my program for the show firmly stored on one of my book shelves.
@@racinnut77 that's what they said. I was in the pavilion area about halfway up. Had to go through a ticket broker to get them. That was a great place to see a concert. Long gone now.
Oops, the song title is Walk of Life not Walk of Live!! I love this Dire Straits song and it's fabulous live. Other fun songs are The Bug and Heavy Fuel both have videos on RUclips Live from Basel 1992 and they are so good. Other great songs, studio versions this time are Private Investigations, The Man's Too Strong and When It Comes To You. Thanks for reacting to this, much appreciated. All the best, guys, take care and keep safe.

I think of this as one of Dire Straits' great daytime radio, easy-going songs, and their longer, more complex songs as night-time-radio or special listening (in-the-mood) songs.
Good choice to explore a bit different and more joyful Dire Straits face. If you want to explore other live performances, their last live album "On the night" (1993) contains some great gems and from that I recommend "Brothers in arms" 👍 Thank you for all your videos
Love Dire Straits. They are a great British rock band from the 70's-90's. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists around. They have had so many hits including "Sultans Of Swing", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Twisting By The Pool", "Money For Nothing", "Telegraph Road", "So Far Away", "Brothers In Arms" etc. They don't have a bad song.
Listen to "so far away" with the awesome intro ( Dire Straits - So far Away [Sydney -86] Calypso version )....its my all time favorite...quality is sadly not very good here on RUclips.
You guys need to do some reactions to Motown and R& B. Artists like Teddy Pendergrass, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Gladys Night and the Pips, The Temptations, The Stylistics, Aretha Franklin, The Spinners…so many. You can’t delve into music in the U. S. without including Motown and R& B. You’re not getting the full picture. African Americans have made a tremendous, unforgettable contribution to American music and you need to hear it.
I did not decide but I agree they have done better ones and some of your subscribers have mentioned Romeo and Juliet live and I would second that. Whatever Mark does it is brilliant even if some people do not realise it the guy is a genius I know exactly how to draw in the crowd. Great reaction and thank you
Love your reactions guys. I would suggest reacting to ‘Private Investigations’ and some live version of ‘Brothers in Arms’, I recommend the “on the night” version for ‘Private Investigations’ and for Brothers in Arms either “on the night” or the “mandela” version with Eric Clapton.
Put down the anti-depressant pills. Just listen this version of this song. Listen to the live version "Romeo And Juliet" from 1992. It will change your life.
For me this is just "pleasant" dire straights....not jarring but nothing that would necessarily make me think wow!!! I echo the comments of some others here who are suggesting private investigations and romeo and juliet. Thanks guys!!
@@lydiabentley3413 I saw them live in 1992 at Woburn Abbey. Absolutely brilliant but Terry Williams had left by then so for me he was a big loss. I seen Mark Knopfler a few times too. Love the guy. He is an absolute genius.
So why haven't you done "Calling Elvis" or "Planet of New Orleans"? Chet Atkins taught Mark how to talk with his guitar, sample some shit where he's learned how to make his guitar sing. You stopped. Why? You teased it with "Brothers in Arms", but now you just abandon them. What's up?

Love that Dire Straits sound and this another one that fills that bill. Your reactions are always "right on". Thanks for playing this one.

You should do Romeo and Juliet, live at hammersmith - Alchemy. Dire Straits are just the greatest. Love your channel boys; keep it up.

I like dire straights better now than when they were popular . Iam 83. Pure talent and no electronics that distort
The best walk of life was that one in Mandela concert in 1988 eith Eric clapton as a special guest. It was awsome !!

Skateaway!!!!!!!!!! A lesser known tune of theirs but is awesome. Also, Calling Elvis is worth a listen as well.

There is also a video of this song that has sports blooper clips in it. From what I understand this song is played at many sporting events.

Very pop/80's sound! Nice and upbeat, but not really a song for the guitar to shine. Interesting discussion guys. Thanks!
