Thrilled for Max! And I SO admire Uchimura; so happy for him to get another gold! :) And I really like Japan, so I'm glad they got 2 all-around medals. :) Super competition! And thanks to USA Gym for amazing coverage!
Kohei is just a talented gymnast, not a PERFECTION INCARNATE MACHINE. One day he'll realize that and embrace the silvers and bronzes to come and that will make him a more true hungry, and yet humble and grateful, gymnast. He worked hard for and deserves this 5th title.
These commentators really butchered the names of the competitors. Shameful. They had enough time to learn how to pronounce them. Your name is actually the most important and personal thing you own. Boy.
I couldn't agree more. That was one of the most irritating aspects of watching this. I don't even follow gymnastics and I've never heard of most of these people, but I can read a name well enough within 5 seconds. I can do even better after repeatedly reading the same names. I don't understand how anyone can mispronounce "Kohei" like they don't see the "E" in there lol.
bamccane They apparently aren't capable of opening their ears and listening to the ANNOUNCER pronounce their names. The women's competition was even WORSE. It was embarrassing for me to listen to them (British commentators that time). I have watched various competitions that were covered by commentators from France, China, Norway, Russia and Germany. Although I couldn't understand the languages, their pronunciation of competitors' names was flawless. Even watching tennis competitions on TV was a revelation. It makes my blood boil. LOL If McEnroe, Evert or the others had their names mispronounced badly, you can bet your two-cheeked bippy they would correct someone in a heartbeat. Yet, none of them take the time to ask either the competitors or their coaches for proper pronunciations. Are all western commentators that G.D. stupid? Or are they all that G.D. arrogant!!!
*"I have watched various competitions that were covered by commentators from France, China, Norway, Russia and Germany. Although I couldn't understand the languages, their pronunciation of competitors' names was flawless."* That made me laugh a bit. I DO follow tennis, and the pronunciation is bad at times... but it's usually limited to the same people and they only westernize certain vowel combinations. I've never heard tennis commentators just completely dismantle names like the ones here. The female turned "Sasaki" into Sakski, Saskia and so on.
bamccane One they butcher repeatedly is Kvitova. There is no KAH in Kvitova. I heard it pronounced KvEEtova, properly. If they can say "tweet" they sure as heck can learn to say KvEET. Proper pronunciation of Sharapova has the accent on the SECOND syllable, not the third, and the "o" is properly pronounced as an "a". There are other east European names they just can't seem to get right. But yes, they do mangle the names in gymnastic competitions.
I think some people are just unaware and have never heard it properly. For instance, I thought the Kvitova pronunciation was fair because I never considered the added vowel sound, and Sharapova pronounces her own name with the American accent pattern (i.e. third syllable).
someone seems to have forgotten to make his work correctly : the sound is... really not good at all ! It would have been a good idea to don't "forget" to increase it ; it's already not easy to follow the comments who are in English, but if in more we don't hear them correctly... it's quite impossible to understand them.
Because having more muscle mass on their legs would be a slight disadvantage as they'd be heavier. Most of the gymnastic routines require upper boy strength more than legs anyway. If you want thick thighs, weightlifting is the obvious sport :P
Yes, some of them seem to take it to an extreme. Gymnasts are relatively light for having so much muscle on their upper body. But they probably still habe more leg muscles than most of us regular people. ;)
Kohei Uchimura isn't human!!!!
Skip to 21 minutes for the first routine
All hail King Kohei
Kohei Ichamura is a beast. Just so damn phenomenal!
Thrilled for Max! And I SO admire Uchimura; so happy for him to get another gold! :) And I really like Japan, so I'm glad they got 2 all-around medals. :) Super competition! And thanks to USA Gym for amazing coverage!
内村航平、日本の誇りだぜ‼️
感動をありがとう❤️
kohei stuck every floor pass!!!
ikr
Max Whitlock's floor routine was also phenomenal
Kohei how the heck does he do it? 5th world title wow!

SPOILER ALERT?!
To be honest, Kohei would have probably won that either way.

Quad twists still drop my jaw.
Do they even try to read peoples names and pronounce them or do they just glance it and say something?? Ridiculous

Why when European champion compete with Asian they will come up last ? I mean what the highest European level ?
I wish someone put timeline for Kohei turn. 😂
omg i CAN'T BELIEVE HOW GOOD THEY ARE PS. GYMNASTICS ROCKS
It was a roll out for me... that scared me.
I hate uchimura he is just so good
most of these guys have big arms relative to their skinny legs.

Plus, most of the strength in gymnastics is mostly arms and doesn't usually include legs.

Bleep is sounds long!
