I've only just started watching Simone Biles, she seems all around really great, personality and skill. I wonder with her uneven bars wether she would be capable of doing Shawn Johnson's Dismount double twisting double layout I think. The commentators were saying she seems capable of more so she would be even more amazing if she could do that.

That 2012 team was truly legendary.
She’s really good, but I personally like other bars routines better because it looks effortless and they make better lines imo. But yeah, she can get super high scores.
And now she’s a world medalist on bars. She’s like Uchimura on the men’s side. His weakest event was pommels but he still qualified to the world finals there twice
Wish Larisa Iordache were in this... She has such a gorgeous floor routine. Mykayla Skinner is such a fantastic tumbler, but I wish she looked a little less uptight. There's something about her facial expressions and the way she throws her shoulders back and wrists forward that makes her look tense, and her dance moves look almost perfunctory- she executes her routines, but she doesn't perform them.

Why does Sam Mikulak do so well in NCAA and National competitions...but falters during international competition? I still love his gymnastics but it's frustrating how his turn of events seem to happen.
Tim Daggett made a really good point. In the gymnastics world, 25 years old is considered old and that's why I disagree with that rule that a female gymnast has to be 16 years old in order to compete in the Olympics. It's not fair to a gymnast that's 15 years old because she has to wait until she's 19. Most gymnasts are at their best between the ages of 14 to 17 years old.
dcdddddd1 I'm pretty sure that you just have to turn 16 during the olympic year, so the olympics are in July and if you're 16th birthday isn't until like September, i think its okay.
dcdddddd1 i agree…a perfect example of this was Nastia for the 2004 Olympics, i believe she TURNED 15 the year of the Games…she was young, but super talented and could have potentially medaled at not one, but two Games!
Jordan Miller But what if a gymnast is 15 years old and doesn't turn 16 until the following year. I just think it's ridiculous that they made that rule. Nadia Comaneci was just 14 years old at the 1976 Olympics. Tatiana Gutsu was just 15 years old at the 1992 Olympics. If a gymnast is good enough to compete at the Olympics, then she should be allowed to compete even if she's just 14 or 15 years old.
Christopher McClendon I agree with you. Like you had mentioned, she was good enough to compete even though she was just 15 years old during the 2004 Olympics.
When the guys do their parallel bar routines and come down so hard on their releases so that their biceps hit the bars...how does that not hurt them?? It looks so painful lol.
You were correct! Team gold by an astronomical margin, every team member in at least one individual final, medals for every member except Gabby individually. Legend stuff.
He can't help it. That one vault of hers in the Olympic team final was just so incredible. They are are all great vaults but a stuck Amanar that is a foot and a half higher than the top male gymnast (who starts on a taller vault table to begin with) is just incredible. And Maroney always had better form and a little more height than Simone. Simone always, always crosses her feet. Ergo, Tim must have an obsession with Maroney because she truly had the most incredible (height, distance, form, landing, centered, dynamic) vault of all time. I think it's kinda funny how he always brings her up. But he's right. She is the greatest vaulter of all time.
bbhouk1 Maroney doesn't have the extension biles has so actually her form isn't better, and she arches her whole body and you can clearly see that in every video. She also isn't the greatest vaulter of all time, on the women's side maybe on the men's no.
Tiffany Brown I think they were referring specifically to reigning Olympic champions. You're right, others have gone back for 2nd and 3rd Olympics, but none were reigning Olympic all-around champions. Gabby was the first since Nadia to do so.
I love Simone, and I love to watch her. But the judges literally don't shut up about her sometimes, it's like, give credit to the other gymnasts! It's just Simone this, Simone that. It gets a little annoying to hear. Nothing against Simone though, I love her, it's just the annoying commentators.
+Gracesykesingle Totally agree! I love Simone and she always leaves me awestruck, but it does get a little annoying when they talk about Simone as though she can do no wrong, but only tend to criticise the other athletes.
+missmosshie Well, after all, they are American commentators covering American gymnasts. :) They say turnabout is fair play. :) I have "issues" with the British commentators, especially Christine Stills. She NEVER passes any opportunity to comment somewhat critically and arrogantly that American girls are not "elegant." That's her favorite word. There are times I wanted to grab my monitor and shake the bolts out of it. LOL The Russian girls are her favorites. One of them in particular can flub her beam routine six or seven times, fall off the beam, and land on her face doing her dismount, and Stills will comment how "elegant" her form, her arm movements, and her toes are---even if she would break them when she fell. And when the British girls, who are of the same body type, have the same style and strength, either flub a routine or even fall on their butts, she gently brushes those mistakes off as "little bobbles." LOL She drove me bonkers, although she has improved a bit in the last two years. Someone must have told her she was just a tad prejudiced with her barbs & criticisms. Not to mention that the woman does not have brains enough to pronounce competitors' names properly, no matter how many times she has heard them said correctly. But she probably just believes she can pronounce their fathers' names better than their fathers can.
+Jordan Miller. I still think they should lower the age requirement to 14 years old instead of 16 years old because most gymnasts are at their best between the ages of 14 to 17 years old. Nadia Comaneci was only 14 years old when she competed in the Olympics.
The reason they raised it is because when it was 14 there was a massive amount of injuries and abuse among the young young girls so by raising it to 16 it helps prevent injuries and abuse more than 14 if that makes sense
Absolutely not!! 16 is young enough in a sport that can be incredibly abusive in nature- given the coaches the sport seems to attract. The girls in particular are not physically developed enough at 14 for it to be safe to consider pushing them that hard that early.
I wish people would stop worrying about what they WEAR and focus on what they’re DOING. These athletes can wear whatever they want, it’s not for others to judge.
Great routines of Fragapane,Black,Lopez and Fasana.. of course,Usa girls,ah,wonderful! but ,it s great to see also so creative routines from other gymnasts too! :)
Ok... I have to ask: Is the American Cup really that big of a deal? Aside from the fact that the meet includes some pretty well-known gymnasts, does it deserve the reverence given to it by the commentators? In the years I've been watching the American Cup, the commentators drone on about how huge the competition is, how prestigious it is to win it, and how every gymnast wants to win or compete in one. I feel like I missed something along the way...
+thetigerbeat007 It's big for the American gymnasts because it's really the only major international event on American soil but it's not so big for the other countries. That's why most of the major gymnasts don't show up
It's no different than other FIG World Cup (which is not that important). But Americans like to emphasize it a lot because it is the only World Cup that US gymnasts can get many medals.
Josh White Actually, while it was close, she wouldn't have won, even staying in bounds, and even without the wobble backward with extra step that wasn't out of bounds. It would've been MUCH, MUCH closer, but the step out was 0.1 and probably 0.1 for the step back before that, and maybe 0.1 for the wobble that accompanied the first step back. Raise her score by 0.3, would've then made it 60.065, while Simone still had 60.231. It would've been a much tighter finish, but Simone still would've gotten it.
Josh White Larissa Iordache ain’t shit compared to a gymnastics queen like Simone. Also stop with your “Larissa would have won had she not stepped out” blah blah bullshit. She didn’t and that’s that. That’s like me saying if Simone would of had a better balance beam routine she would have won with a larger margin of victory, but she didn’t so stop with the “if’s.”
My only fear for Simone - I believe she is unbeatable if she hits, is that the judges score her like they did Shawn Johnson in 2008. The Euros are hating the athleticism of the USA gymnasts. The sport has changed. The change has been dictated via the code of points / FIG. Judges better not pull that crap again.
+devanf17 I guess we have the same issue about that. After all the events these commentators covered over the years, you would think they would take the time to learn how to pronounce competitors' names properly. I think it's RUDE for them not to give proper respect to the athletes by pronouncing their names correctly. You think the Japanese names are bad? Just listen to them during the Olympics. They butcher Russian and east European names horribly, and there is NO excuse for it because almost all of the athletes compete in many events over the years. Lazy and stupid, that's all.
Mikkayla (Spelling?) lost a chunk of weight since last years American cup or whatever it's called! I just watched it on youtube and was thinking to myself she was too chunky...not muscly like Simone but chunky! I noticed Mikkayla's weight was affecting her gymnastics and making it hard for her to stick not only landings but even her mounts and tumbling and her combinations! She's lost a big chunk of weight and its improved her skills and she's not so out of breath now!
Wow, you are really a gigantic PIG. Judging an athlete for their physical appearance? That’s the act of a child. Would you like someone to judge you for how you look? Would you appreciate being called “chunky?” What a soulless statement. She got better because her training brought it about- not because of her damn weight!
I don’t understand why there is so much power and muscles in women US gym and so little choregraphy and dance whereas there are so many Romanians and Russians coaches in the USA. Simone is outstanding. But I prefer Anastasia’s, Victoria’s or Aliya’s routine than Kyla’s, Mykayla’s or Mackayla’s.
I don’t understand why so many people are childishly obsessed with female gymnasts being skinny little porcelain dolls. The days of being starved little girls has long passed- they are now encouraged to actually be strong and athletic so their bodies can handle and withstand the punishment of doing gymnastics. In terms of dance and choreography, it’s an individual and interpretive aspect of the sport. This is not ballet or dance class, it’s GYMNASTICS. The athletes should be able to interpret it in their own individual way.

That's riddles
I can't watch this stuff without playing around doing handstands and flips.
I love how Tim says it hasn't been since Nadia in 1980 that a gymnast returned to a second games. Ummm Dominique dawes did three
It’s weird to not see the huge American flag behind the beam😂
Simone biles I LOVE YOU SO MACH
Cool
Simone was really amazing (to me) but i wish she made that standing side ariel a standing front ariel (bb) (sorry if anything is spelt bad)

****Simone
She was googd she erned her place.
lol Donell Whittenburg and the other guys did the nae nae lol
I do gymnastics to!!!!!
So
My only fear for Simone - I believe she is unbeatable if she hits, is that the judges score her like they did Shawn Johnson in 2008. The Euros are hating the athleticism of the USA gymnasts. The sport has changed. The change has been dictated via the code of points / FIG. Judges better not pull that crap again.
wow, they're really butchering the Japanese names.
Tacks Sherbo International commentators butcher American names as well! They call Simone “see-mo-nay” all the time.
WOWOWW GO SIMONE BILLES
Judges Mikayla did same move get off the beam just did with Simone biles
if she did do the double layout shed be able to score. 17.00
Mustafina never competed at euros this year
Mikkayla (Spelling?) lost a chunk of weight since last years American cup or whatever it's called!
Where's Kyla Ross?
The chose skinner over Ross skinner is kinda better in my opinion
1:19:00
I like Mkayla bow and simone did I spell their names wrong?
Bow simone
Go canada!
1:18:45 that nae nae though
What happened to Kalya ross
Kyla*** she was improving her difficulty and skills before she competed at a competition in Italy. Plus Skinner needed the international experience😊
Why is kyla ross not competing?
I guess they'd rather take MyKayla in order for her to get more experience. I think Kyla will compete in Jesolo, later in March
They're only allowed two, and they chose Skinner over Ross.
She wanted to take time to work on new skills for the upcoming season to improve routine difficulty
hi yardena kite l
I'm confused, I thought the American cup was supposed to be for American gymnasts only. So we could see all of the great talent we have.
The American Cup is an international event and always has since its inception in 1976. Nadia Comaneci, a Romanian, won that competition.
Lmao ure talking about National Championships 😒
