    • @dawnkennedy2983
      @dawnkennedy2983 4 года назад +8

      @@seriliz00 Yes, she was destroyed by her coach and all of the body/weight shaming. There's just no place for that. I always think of Christy Henrich. She was told by a judge in '88 that she was too fat, and died in '94 weighing like, 60 pounds (an improvement from the 40 something pounds she was when she was hospitalized) Just 22 years old. She said that there were other girls she trained with were suffering in silence. It was an incredibly abusive and toxic environment, and despite the amount of awareness of the potential for eating disorders in gymnastics, that toxicity still exists. It's just not on display like it once was. Back in the day, commentators would say truly horrid shit about gymnasts weight and bodies. Even ones like Cathy Rigby, who had an eating disorder herself, would make nasty comments about gymnasts being overweight, or praise the gymnasts (who weren't overweight to begin with) who lost a bunch of weight and looked like skeletons.
      They couldn't get away with that shit today, but I guarantee it's still happening behind closed doors to more than a few gymnasts. Obviously sexual abuse was/is rampant as well. It makes me sick. I always wonder just how many gymnasts at any given competition are battling eating disorders or are being abused in some way. I'm glad that Kaitlyn was able to get away from it, and to pick up the pieces and continue to do gymnastics is a much healthier environment.

      Yes, Katelyn was great, but a lot of people thought 2012 would "belong" to Wieber who actually DID make it to the Olympics. Or that the Vault Final Gold "belonged" to Maroney who DID make it. There is no way to determine who the Olympics would have belonged to outside of those who actually made it, performed AND won. MAYBE Katelyn would have challenged Simone; that's about as much as we can say for sure.

    One thing I hate about NBC commentating (besides their bias and negativity) is that during the routines they say either nothing or start telling a story about who said this or that to them, ignoring the routine unless they spot an error. I don't care where so and so lives or what they felt when they won or made a mistake. There is a routine going on right in front of you guys and I'd like to know more about it than just the errors! Nastia was a "fragile" gymnast because of her build (her mothers rythmic ballet body) but many of liukin gymnasts are pure muscle, with the grace thrown in. I think the Zmeskal girls will also be a force to be reckoned with. Im thinking Chow and Valeri will be taking over when the Karolyi's finally retire. We shall see. Btw, ohashi is still training and has THE highest Difficulty level on beam...and shes up there are bars.

    It breaks my heart how Katelyn was told she couldn't eat; so she wasn't able too build muscle like Simonee's. Even if she ever temporarily put on a little fat while eating to support muscle development, she would quickly burned it off just like she did during the course of college. With the amount of training in elite and the metabolism of a young teenage athlete and with her commitment to being in her best shape, telling her to eat all she needs to would be the only good advice.

    I don't think Ohashi could have kept up with Simone over the years; Simone got exponentially better and more disciplined and Ohashi would have been a beam specialist. But the key thing is that Simone seems to love gymnastics and is able to shake off setbacks, and Katelyn looks like she's on a death march. She didn't love elite gymnastics so she was never going to achieve the heights her talent might have taken her to. I'm glad she was able to go to NCAA and rediscover her love of gymnastics.

      Simone's coaches paced her progression, preserving her body and making sure she only goes up. Katelyn's coach on the other hand pushed her to work with heavy injuries and ran her into the ground, while destroying her mental state by body shaming her constantly.

    Looking back, it’s really crazy to realize how under pressure Katelyn Ohashi was. She just basically won the competition here 1:10:31 and instead of her coach, Valeri Liukin, embracing her and hyping her up, he took her to the side and told her what she could’ve done better. Are you freaking mad?! He never saw her as more than a tool to get him more gold medals. Disgusting. Compare it with Aimee Boorman, Simone’s coach, after Simone finished her beam routine where she fell, at 52:00 she embraced Simone and told her positive words “you got back up!”, “okay good! So we know where we need to work on”, “the rest of the routine, I’m pleased with you, you got very good control on everything”. That’s a great coach. Your athletes just competed and have run out of energy, this isn’t the time to be lecturing them! Save it for later. And he made Katelyn Ohashi compete while suffering all the shoulder and spine injuries. Later we also found out that Katelyn got mentally abused, got body shamed and that’s literally why she never enjoyed competing elite. Because her closest person in her journey never really cared about her well being. Valeri Liukin, you will always be one of the devils of women’s gymnastics. It’s disgusting how you’re still actively coaching to this day. Shame on you for ruining Katelyn’s life.

    It was all about Katelyn at this meet. Her beam at 42:10 and floor at 1:08:10 were pretty great, but Kate and Valeri sure did look glum after those routines! Oh well....

    Looking back on this, I don't think that even the commentators would have guessed that Simone would not only be the face of US (WAG) gymnastics but the face of gymnastics on a whole in years to come. NO ONE could have dreamt that she would have had soooo much success and be as dominant as she has been. The girl will go down as one of the most dominant athletes (man or woman) EVER.

  • @sami16167
    @sami16167 11 лет назад +1

    It's because she didn't do what she wanted to do. She missed connections on her beam routine and on floor her last pass was suppose to a 2 1/1 to full twist but instead she just did a layout flip. She won simply because of her difficulty on beam and Simone's fall on beam.

      Diego Romero I don't think it was Aly who changed tho.
      Gabby clearly became cold and distant when she came back.
      I'm not sure if she just didn't enjoy the sport anymore or if it was jealousy but she seems like such a different person here compared to her personality in Rio.

      Gabby seemed distant and cold before the Olympics, she never seem to want to do anything with anyone. She seems bitchy and feel like she thinks she better than anyone and just wants money.

    I think Ohashi wont make it to 2016, her age was off and she like all Lukin gymnastics isn't powerful and can't do the two and 1/2 vault! and She isn't that great on Bars and with the new code its all about bars and vault, I hope she turn into a specialist and do bean and floor
    Some young JR. is going to pop up around 2015 remember Rebecca Bross,same script different cast

    i agree. i don't think her victory was a "blow out". it's incredibly unfortunate that Shawn was not feeling her best in that competition. Because, had she not been having an off day, it's clear Shawn would have won. But that's not to say that Nastia didn't deserve the Gold. It all boils down to the moment I suppose.
