I recall from the Techmarine lore that these Astartes have a complicated relationship, they are first and foremost Adeptus Astartes and will aid their battle brothers however they can, earning ire from the Mechanicum for unsanctioned field modifications. On the other hand a distance from his battle brothers for his views on the Omnissiah and far greater obsession in technology.
The best relationship between the Astartes and the Mechanicus I've seen is in the Ciaphas Cain books. Cain is assigned as a liaison to a chapter called the Reclaimers. It's never said but they are probably an Iron Hands successor chapter and they are very close with the Mechanicus. They even venerate the Omnissiah. Also They really like Cain and one of their techmarines made Cain's prosthetic fingers.
I expect the tech marine was impressed Cain jumped through an active necron teleporter and decided to personally craft the fingers out of respect for the deed, since it was done before he even was awake to speak to the marine IIRC. He was knocked out on arriving in the middle of the firefight, carried away by the space marines and tended to while unconcious.
As an avid Grey Knights fan, I often wondered if there were Techmarines assigned to them or if a Grey Knight goes incognito to Mars to become a Techmarine.
They do have their own Techmarines, for to perform their duties on the battlefields of the Grey Knights, a Techmarine will still need the full mental and spiritual fortitude of a true Grey Knight, but they are trained separately from other Astartes and receive extra training in the matters of their special exclusive tech such as psycannons and the like.
I mean, Grimaldus seemed quite cordial with jurisian so I assume the templars are cool with their tech marines. And grimaldus is the reclusiarch of the BT, not just some random marine
I think, just as the iron hands are all the way out at one end, the dark angels are all the way out at the other. That means that this is probably as wide as the gulf gets between the tech marines and a chapter as a whole
I wonder if it's easier or harder for Black Templar Techmarines, as the chapter sees the Emperor as their god, but the mechanics also sees the Emperor as a facet of their god.
Dark Angels being the first got equipped by Terra and the Emperor and hence they have the least number of techmarines. The Emperor always had a backup plan for all eventualities … the Dark Angels are meant to be checkmate against Mars if ever they ….
I don't see what good a single chapter would do against mars, given Emps is making this plan on the assumption NINETEEN other chapters will be compromised. No chapter is so good they can go 19 on 1 plus Mechanicus support with any hope of winning.
@@jg2323 This was before the heresy when they were a legion of 150,000 warriors. They were actually used against a rebellious forge world … realising the cost it would take the flagship dropped 4 AI battle machines from the DAOT gifted to them by Emperor.
I love this interaction. People tend to forget that an Astartes as we’re used to see them aren’t just a transhuman genhanced individual, the parts of his armour has Machine Spirits. They’re wearing a little nuclear power plant on their back. IIRC there are instances in lore when they perform rituals to have new parts accept the others. Does the Black Carapace have a Machine Spirit? Where does the man end and machine begin? I bet there are plenty of tension regarding this, and different levels of knowledge amongst Astartes. Your armour can rebel against you. It can even be possessed by Daemons. This is a realm that might conflict with the Imperial Truth, and in reality the Astartes probably don’t like being dependent on the Cult Mechanicus to even function. Harsh truth is when we see an Astartes move, that’s not just him, it’s also a cluster of Machine Spirits. Being a Techmarine with all that knowledge is probably a very tense experience. Would love seeing more of this dynamic in lore, it gives every single Astarte a much needed depth and complexity. How much of it’s power comes from his sensors? How much personality stem from the actual armour? Who are they without it? I see untapped potential!
The Carapace does not have a machine spirit due to being an interface between the Man and the Machine, having a third "consciousness" would probably slow reaction time.
@ Yeah, but sort of… Everything has a Machine Spirit to some degree, right? Even the most rudimentary tech has one afaik. Bio-tech is still tech. From what I know the Machine Spirit doesn’t really act as a processor, it seems more like a force and will. What exactly makes it exempt? Is there anything written on the topic?
@@e.nordstrom3892 The answer depends on the mechanicus priest you ask. Some undoubtedly believe any machine no matter how simple has a spirit because by definition it is a machine. Possession ability isn't a good criteria of measurment given demons are routinely bound to inanimate objects (usually swords and guns) that have no conciousness or soul. Some probably only think a sufficiently advanced machine has a spirit and a cog or screw cannot. The issue is that since it's a dogmatic belief and not a measurable criteria, what has a 'spirit' is largely up to interpretation, if a machine spirit exists at all and it's not just a projection of the warp due to the belief it 'should' have a spirit so now it does.
Techmarines are supposed to stand out and be different, given the knowledge and training they possess. This is a grimdark setting, after all, but not only because of this. It's always fun to see techmarines interact with Mechanicus.
Techmarines are not truly trusted by either side. The Chapter questions their loyalty to them. The Mechanicus doesn't trust them to be loyal to Mars, thus not revealing all the knowledge and lore to them.
As a techmarine, and the DA running dark, as they usually do, how the fark is their wargear EVER going to be maintained? Nobody knows where, nobody knows how.
Makes you wonder what the Lion has to say about these tech Marines and their split loyalty. I've got an interesting " tech marine" I'm working on. Because he's not actually a tech marine. He's a Risen Knight that is over ten thousand years old and learned from the Emperor's forges. A Knight of the Iron Wing. Well, that's the Lore I'm trying to make. If anyone can point me in the right direction of anything on the Iron Wing, short stories or Heresy Novels that would be great. The only real mention of the Iron Wing has been pretty scarce.
I think in almost any other chapter there would be much more acceptance and less suspicion. You just picked the worst chapter for secrets and exclusion.
Blood Raven seem to have a good relationship with the Mechanicus, even been helping them explore planets for any knowledge found.

Nice detail with the Iron Hands exception. For the Sons of Ferrus Manus, the techmarines essentially run the chapter.
The Iron Fathers.

I mean Techmarines keep sercrets from their chapter to. They are not telling what they experienced on Mars
As an avid Grey Knights fan, I often wondered if there were Techmarines assigned to them or if a Grey Knight goes incognito to Mars to become a Techmarine.
I wouldn't be surprised if they just had their own mechanicus adepts or facilities on Titan.
Certainly the ordo malleus takes good care of them. They don't work independently they receive resources from the inquisition
The exclusive GK technology comes from their personal Forge World of Deimos, it is plausible that their Techmarines are also trained there.

He does not truly belong to either world, but shares loyalty with both, and seems very lonely indeed.
May the blessings of the Omnissiah be upon him.
"like they are keeping secrets from you"
Yes , but that's the same for everyone in the chapter.
When he asked the techmarine if he was serpicus I expected someone else to say “no, I’m serpicus……”
I need to see how this is with the Black Templars
I mean, Grimaldus seemed quite cordial with jurisian so I assume the templars are cool with their tech marines.

Too bad this isn't from an audible novel from cz Dunn as his books are great

Hope we see more salamander and Iron warrior stories

Id like to see a breakdown of the diffefences between 30k and 40k techmarines
As a techmarine, and the DA running dark, as they usually do, how the fark is their wargear EVER going to be maintained? Nobody knows where, nobody knows how.
I believe the Omnisaah is actually the Void dragon that is buried within Mars as a prison. Any worship of such, is straight hersey.
Love tech marines! Make dreadnought more durable.

No comments in five seconds. Bro fell off.
Lols.... Is this a thing people still say? Or are you attempting to bring it back?
