We'll never know who did this because the police chose not to investigate the case because of political pressure. They grabbed the first person they could and charged him. That was the second crime in this story!
This might mean that the killer was a member of a local political family or a friend of a local political family. In any case, this was a very personal crime. 😔
Shosh yeah we actually went up there a few days ago. I am very intrigued about this story and have been for a while. I discovered on the way up it was almost 100 years to the day.
yeah...that's it, I'm actually the mayor of Vernon Keel, and the second cousin to Mr. Wolf's granddaughter, yeah that's it. And my grandfather worked on his farm, yeah that's it.
Well whoever did this was a monster. But makes you wonder if the neighbor did it he would have known there was a baby and killed her too . The enterview of the grandson was heartbreaking.
Eight coffins were lined up in a row on the Wolf farm - two large coffins for the father and mother at one end, then five smaller ones for their five daughters, and a larger one again for the boy that got killed with them.
The police obviously beat a confession out of Layer, but it's likely he'd sign whatever they wrote, whether he did it or not, so it doesn't matter that the details were wrong. The only other suspect would have to be a homicidal maniac. A sad tale, but bad police work means we'll never know.
Not really, except the fact that an entire family was murdered. But you should check out the episode titled "the man from the train" , it's fascinating. Basically it details the authors theory that a serial killer who wiped out entire family's with an axe travelled the rails for years and committed very similar crimes all across the country, including the Villiisca murders. And in fact they even name a suspect.
Yeah, it's frustrating. I've got to go in and manually remove the ad breaks because if I don't (or miss one) RUclips will put like a thousand of them in the episode. Thanks for telling me about this one, I removed most of them.
The brother did it. The dogs would have alerted had it been a non family member & he would have benefited financially being the only family member left alive besides the baby. I wonder if the 26 yr. old daughter & her uncle were the parents of the baby. Hmmm...
the guy in the asylum may be related to the previous serial murders. He may have changed his method from axe to shotgun and from throwing towel on mirrors to putting up masks. To me this could be connected to villisca. After he passed away in the asylum there was not a single serial killer with this style
I think it's the neighbor who found the bodies. You take your wife and find 3 bodies in a barn and then continues inside the house and down into cellar when you don't know if a murderer is still around?? Nope nope. Anyone else would have gotten themselves and their wife the hell out of there. You wouldn't go check on phone lines and explore a cellar.
I think it was the father of the 26 year old daughter and the 18-year-old son. It was revenge.or 1920 the beginning of prohibition could it is somehow be connected. I'm just saying.
Only in the fact that an entire family was murdered, and even the young baby at hinterkaideck. I keep seeing comments comparing this to other family murders like Villiisca as well. But in truth the only similarity's with these crimes is a family was killed. The method of murder is different as well as many other facts.
@@MostNotorious I get what you're saying but a lot of podcasters they put their stuff on RUclips don't leave it in just a podcast format, they add visuals. Like 'this is monsters' and 'true crime and chill'
Maybe Layer hired couple of men to rough up his neighbor due to their run ins. It goes wrong and shooting starts. That would explain Layers comment that his eyes see but his hands clean. Just a thought.
No man let's his kids end up in an orphanage and his wife to become destitute for anyone. Sorry. Even if Layer had suspects he would've been blabbering it to keep his kids from being in an orphanage. He mightve suspected somebody but he didn't know. It rakes a special bastard to watch a man get life and then to watch his wife put 5 kids into an orphanage. I think it was the wife's brother who was with Layer when the shotgun shells were found or the guy with the wronged sister
@@MusicLeeSarah yes. Nothing new was learned about the case. The writing itself is bland. I learned more from the book Spooky Creepy North Dakota by Lori L Oster.

who knows, the axmurderer might have found a shootgun on this one and tried it out end then went back to the axe again after that, it matches the time frame at least.. haha.. x)

In the 1920s, you had to crank the switch board and the phones.
Sounds strangely similar to the axe murder in Villisca, IA.

Legitimate question. Was the shotgun mr. wolfs? How would the killer be able to get at the extra shells?

How did the baby survived!?
Slept through everything.
She was in another room.
That baby Emma found true love with her husband, and had three children.
She died in 2003.
Or she could not identify The killers
