    I personally have ASPCA pet insurance for my cat. She has megacolon and is on a special diet with that expensive food and everything. Lemme tell ya, if I didn't have that pet insurance, I would be broke as a joke. They pay 80% of every single bill. They pay within 3 business days of submitting a claim and it's been the best decision I've made concerning insurance for my cat. I pay$17 dollars a month and it's honestly saved me thousands.$250 is my annual deductible.

    My cat, Nehemiah, somehow broke his leg badly while outside when he was little. It cost more than 5 thousand dollars for surgery, pins, screws and hospital visits before it was fixed. I am ordering insurance for routine visits annually and for these unexpected things that happen. Nehemiah is now a housecat. He no longer wanders freely outside unless supervised by us.

    We have lemonade for our two cats and tbh we're in the market for new insurance. They have been pretty unhelpful throughout every claim we've made. Every little piece of communication has been really inefficient, they always lie and say they contacted the clinic or that they hadn't received documents, when at VCA they emailed the documents and CCd us, right in front of us. Watch out ppl. Their app looks great, their coverage not so much!

    Thinking about changing my pet insurance. I have HealthyPaws and luckily only had to file a claim once. I didn't like the way HealthyPaws responded to the claim. The wait was long and instead of telling me the claim amount was applied to my deductible they told me it was denied bc of missing documents. I had to email them a few times to get the correct reason(I admit that I forgot I have a deductible). But, every time I tried researching pet insurance I always ended up concluding that most pet insurance is a scam and the ones that are not are so expensive that it's hard to afford when you have multiple cats.

    There are a couple of items not made clear in the video:
    - as a pet ages, do the premiums go up annually or are they grandfathered in based on the age at initial coverage;
    - once a pet reaches the age of non-coverage, does coverage simply end or does the age limit only apply for initial coverage

      I've been trying to get an answer about the 2nd question for the last couple of days. I'm adopting an 11 year old cat and considering lemonade v. Figo. But if lemonade is going to kick her off once she reaches 13 that is going to cause a problem

    • @Katjaneway
      @Katjaneway Год назад +6

      I just got a response from Lemonade. (Downside, it took 2-4 days). As long as the cat is younger than 13 when signing up they can remain on the policy as they age as long as the policy remains active. They did not specify if premiums would skyrocket, however. But for the plan I chose, which is for an 11 year old domestic Longhair female with the most expensive wellness package because it includes dental, it would be $65 a month. 250 deductible, 5k limit I believe, but also 90% payout.

    I got my cat from the shelter, and the shelter gave me one complimentary checkup at my local vet. The checkup went well. I stupidly and casually mentioned I noticed she had loose stools probably because she was a stray and ate spoil food on the streets, who knows, so the vet sent me home with some meds, and the problem went away. I then purchased Lemonade insurance, who then obtained the record from that vet. 4 months later, my cat had one incident of diarrhea and vomiting so I took her in for a blood and urine test - $350 total. My claim was rejected by Lemonade citing - PRE-EXISTING CONDITION. Either they are playing stupid or just don't know diarrhea is a symptom of many things NOT a disease like cancer or CKD. If my cat got into my trash and ate more rotten meat, can it cause diarrhea? If I switch food too fast, can it also cause diarrhea? They sure can! Lemonade doesn't care, it's happened in 4 months ago, it must be related. All diarrhea(s) are caused by the same underlying condition. The consolation prize Lemonade gave me was - "BTW, good news is if your cat doesn't show any symptoms of diarrhea after a year, it's considered CURED!!!!!" WOW, thank you Lemonade! It only takes a year to cure diarrhea? That's it? How does this insurance company make any money insuring a cat that has DIARRHEA???!!!!!! I reported them to BBB and I am in the process of cancelling the policy. Moral of the story? KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT DURING INITIAL VET VISITS. THEY WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING YOU SAY, WHICH THE INSURANCE CAN USE TO WIGGLE THEIR WAY OUT OF REIMBURSTMENT. And I would not use Lemonade ever again.

Their revenue for last year was $128 million, so they gave away a little under 2% of the money they brought in. Honestly, that's more than I had expected, but but less than you might think. Aaron, AND... Once these charitable donations are received, how much of that money actually goes toward the advertised cause. Too many charitable institutions have been investigated over the years for fraud for me to ever be comfortable in giving. I would rather give a few bags of cat and dog food to my local animal shelter. That way, I know my donation will be used as I intended it to be used. I just paid the vet $449 for services and tests on my 13 year old cat. That comes out to $2.78 per month... so far. Much less than the $1716 I would have paid out over the thirteen years at $11 per month.

    We purchased a policy from lemonade based on your recommendation almost a year ago. The policy is on a five year old cat that showed up on our deck starving, so we took her in. We took her to the local Humane Society for her shots and a healthy cat check up. She passed. When we got the lemonade policy, they said they needed to see copies of our reports from the treatments she received, but they never provide us with an avenue for uploading the reports. Not impressed at all! Bottom line: We’ve never even been able to use the policy. It’s ridiculous. Fortunately, our cat has been healthy. Would I recommend the cat insurance to others? No! Not unless you’re found of chucking your money down a hole. Oh yes, we left a message and they never returned our calls. Guess our messages went down the same hole.

    I’ve had Lemonade now for about a year, but didn’t realize I hadn’t added the vet visit fee rider. Beware, if you want to add this when you renew, Lemonade will not allow you to if you’ve made any claim towards your current policy. Also, claims were very breezy and easy for me, up until I hit my deductible. Then, the first claim after that, I got stalled and over a month later, that claim still is pending. They emailed me talking about obtaining documents from the vet, but I’ve provided them with everything. Very frustrating because I can’t just talk to someone.

    Pet insurance in Australia is a massive rip off.
    Even my vet says you are better off banking the premiums instead of paying a company to end up deciding that your claim is denied.
    We had a claim denied after our cat inhaled a grass seed which ended up having part of a lung being removed.
    The vet even wrote a note stating this was the result of an “accident” as the cat did not deliberately inhale the seed.
    Claim refused.
    All five cats insurance terminated the next day.
    We put $50 a week away now and have a fund over $7000 for any incident. Yes, that may not be enough, but it helps us divert other funds if needed. A good base and not having to rely on some pencil pusher to decide if my cat lives or dies.

      I'm pretty sure all pet insurance companies are doing this as the older they get the more likely they will have issues. I was lucky I bothered to sign up one of my kitties as she ended up with asthma and needs an inhaler which is $300 every 2 months. I won't be able to get a different pet insurance on her as it'll be pre-existing to any other company and won't be covered, but I've not had any issues with Figo so far, when she's 15 I might be paying $100/month but she'll still need the inhaler so that's just something I'll need to make sure I think of in the future. I like Figo because I have multiple ways of getting in contact with a person, they use facebook messenger, SMS, and you can call them as well and they also have a chat with a vet 24/7 feature so you can ask questions to make sure you make the right decision for your pet.
      One of the major things I think you have to make sure of is that the insurance company will be around 20+ years from now, if your pet gets a cronic illness at 5 and the insurance company goes under when they are 10, then you can't cover that illness by signing them up for someone else.

    It's hard to evaluate an insurance product if you haven't made a claim. You can't submit your claim online. You have to go through the app and use a smart phone. The chat bot walks you through the steps, but you can't ask it a question or get any clarification. I found it to be an overly casual exchange and completely tone deaf, considering it's likely you are dealing with a difficult diagnosis for your best friend. And then you have to film yourself talking about it. You scan and submit the notes and receipt from your vet. Then you get a real person who will e-mail you about your claim. I found my claims person to be very kind and professional. There were more questions and more paperwork, and they said they would reach out to my vet. My claim did get paid, eventually. I was worried that with my cat's new diagnoses my renewal rate would be too high, but I can say it stayed about the same. I have a three-year-old cat.

    Has anyone gotten lemonade with the optional dental care add on? Is it worth it for the extra $147 a year?

    But if you're a cat breeder, having several cats, it's not worth it.

    Are you kidding me pet insurance, when most of you willing to run over rabbits and squirrels. No but your pet is special, it's a animal, all animals need respect. If they die give it to a river or forest. Let nature take it's course. Ya pay money for nothing insurance LOL.
