I got a kitten yesterday she looks abt 6-7 weeks old he was found under a tire at walmart and i noticed he’s very scared, he hides behind anything he can find like my dresser and my washer. He has gotten better because he plays a little but he still hides when i make a sudden movement or just any small movements any tips?
That's what I strive for: To make every interaction with me a positive one! In 8 years, I've rescued 106 feral cats and kittens. I currently have 2 Mama cats and 7 kittens. The Mamas are slowly coming around and the babies were born here so, they're well socialized. This is a full-time job, but so rewarding. 💙🐈
It took me 5yrs to tame a floof. Admittedly she is my SIL’s cat and I only she her when I’m house sitting but today she willingly sat on my lap without biting me. ❤
That is genuinely a positive step. My wife is the one who saved our cleopatra (shes like 4 now but still teenage kitty size) bimut she loves me so much i cant deny her anything. I am wrapped around her little front toe ans wouldnt have it any other way
This video is what helped me take two spicy floofs my son brought home. One was so spicy it would make the spitting hiss at us. Now they are both little purr monsters.
i picked up one of my cat from the street she was around 2 months old she was really sweet back but now four months later boy she is the most aggressive and dramatic cat in the world even the vet said she hasnt seen any cat as aggressive and dramatic as her btw she is doing perfectly fine she just sometimes get aggressive when you hold her coz she doesnt like to be held and the vet was giving her injection so i dont blame my cat for being aggressive ( i am scared of injections too )

But glad this brings you joy- moving back to my family’s house and caring for the family cats really helps me heal from the unexpected loss of my beloved BeBe cat.
After fostering dozens of teeny tiny floofs, one super consistent thing I've noticed is that they like the texture of denim blue jeans. Sit near them and encourage them to climb on your legs and lap. Their little claws get a good grip on denim and I think it either feels good or makes them feel secure. Soon they'll be climbing all over your legs (while sitting) and getting very used to your scent. Also if you sit on the floor with your legs stretched out, I think your legs (being far from your face and hands) seem like a much less threatening part of you to interact with.
I worked at a shelter and my favorite flood taming technique was the baby purritto with lots of pets. Works best when they are small. Hold them as I clean their kennel and stuff a toy down my shirt to put in their kennel so they are near my smell constantly. Worked so well that a kitten for a while would only let me hold her. She got adopted eventually. As for adults that were semi feral lots and lots of patience, treats, and blankets and toys with my smell all over them. Loooots of talking and contact.
Had an abandoned cat stay near our house for a month, the whole time I would visit him, wait until he finished hissing, then feed him food. Eventually he warmed up to me and we took him in, sweetest kitty I could have ever met… I wish I could get him a pal but unfortunately we cannot, so I am waiting until I move out for that day :)
Thank you so much. I've seen so many videos of people forcing their hands into the face of a terrified, hissing cat. I was so stressed until I realized this wasn't one of those.
I would also recommend giving them a shirt or something you’ve worn for a day. By acclimating them to your scent in a space they can feel safe in they can get used to you without you actually being there. Just make sure it’s nothing frilly or with loose threads. They might try to eat it.
I’m doing this with my outdoor cats. They are fully grown, and I can not contain them, so I hope that maybe if I just give them enough time and treats they will tolerate me.
What worked for me is staying within sight of the food I put out. Sometimes about fifteen feet away. I'd bring the food in with me. Then I'd gradually decrease the distance. I just sat on my doorstep without approaching them. Many opossums and raccoons around my neighborhood and I didn't want them hanging around my house. One of my strays was a four year old tom, and it worked for him.
If you’re adopting a kitten, always get at least two. They need a companion to help them learn to cat, and it’s a big help in teaching manners. If they hurt the other kitten, they’ll hear about it and learn that’s a no. Too many people don’t know how to teach a cat that no part of another living being is a toy, but the co-kittens will play with each other and learn what level of aggression is acceptable. They also comfort each other, snuggle together, and play with each other. Kittens need lots of vigorous play time and it can be hard for a human to give them enough time and fun even with multiples, so having The Best Kitten Toy Ever, another kitten, is a big help.
My "spicy" floof wasn't at all spicy, he immediately started snuggling with me and now he's a big floof, almost 4 :) Update: It's his birthday! He's 4 and super adorable
Fostered kittens for so long, changed so many of them my gosh does it take time. Definitely, let them sniff you. And don’t chase them, forcefully hold them, etc. let them warm up to you, if you can’t do that, do not take care of the spicy floof 🫠
Last 2 weeks i was at my aunts and they keep kittens they need to care for and socialize before putting them up for adoption. When i got there they had two rather sociable ones, a shy one, a shy AND scared one, and a defensively aggressive one. I set myself a quest - make all 5 kittens purr. It took some work but hey, i succeeded! The shy little one became more sociable, the shy and scared one would sometimes request petting and the aggressive one now simply gave a little hiss upon being approached. I did manage to make her purr too but it took a lot of work. Great experience.
Have you ever tried the "just grab the floof and accept the spice" method. This is where you grab the floof, allow it to bite the crap out of you, then when it sates it blood lust and calms down you give it the snack-o's. This method is significantly quicker but significantly more painful with larger floofs.
For outdoor floofs, I've always found a mixture play with a non-threatening object and proximity to the food bowl requiring interaction to earn food typically works.
I tamed a whole litter of spicy floofs when I was a kid. We brought them from my great grandfather's place when they were JUST weened to our place, where they proceeded to live in the bathroom for... I can't remember how long now, but it was a while. Every day, I went in there and just... sat with the little ones, getting them used to me being there and eventually, they became curious about me when they realized I wasn't there to harm them. And when they became curious, they also slowly became more and more friendly towards me and people they associated with me, and then with people in general. One of those formerly spicy floofs went on to save my life multiple times when I was a suicidal teenager. He was my furry son and he did everything in his power to make sure I was okay on my really bad days. RIP, Tig...
I caught my cat as a kitten trying to climb my parents garage wall. He definitely wasn't feral and hadn't been out long, he had no flee and wasn't super skinny. I tamed him with snuggles. I'd just sit with little spicy danger bean in my lap while I played a quiet game or something. Given I caught him after a night of some pretty nasty rain in which he sat and "sounded like the space invader" game under my mother's window all night I believe he appreciated the warmth. While he doesn't live with me anymore, I moved across country and didn't want to take him away from the other cats he grew up with I can assure you he is absolutely spoiled beyond measure by my step mother. She adoes him and often sends me photos of him snuggling the resident chonk.
I took home a spicy floof when I was 16. It took a long time to get that floof to trust me. But, after she did, we have 16 years of so much love. I miss my sweetie. She was so weird, she only liked me and eventually my husband (that's how I knew he was the right one), and she got me through the hardest things in my life. The spicy floofs are lifelong loves in the making. I miss my baby.
My last spicy floof was spicy for two days until she realized she got all of the free food she wanted. She became an 'everything nice' floof after that and even let us pet her belly within the first week. About the only thing I did to her that she didn't like was a flea bath. She had fleas and was severely underweight, but now she's a lap cat. Love her.

Food, play, scritches and one afternoon. That’s all you need. The older you start them at the longer you need.
RIP, Tig...
My floof was such a spicy kitten when we first brought him home. Now hes the biggest lover and needs to be pet constantly 😂
Shes so incredibly beautiful and so quick and clever.
So sweet. They think they’re 🌶️ but enter the love and treats…
The sniff is so important. I so often see people go at straight at cats with their palms and wonder why they get rejected
Omg when the second floof got jealous of the first floof and just jumped right in front of him 🤣🥺💜
I caught my cat as a kitten trying to climb my parents garage wall.
The xtra fluffy floof was like, here I am…pet me too strange monster. 🖤🖤🖤 Voids are my favorite.
Love her.
My sister has this enclosure. She lovingly calls it "The Thunder Dome" 😂
