Another great clip, thanks. A while back I adopted "Georges" barley and hops "Making Gin" video method. Already possessing the required equipment I used his base recipe with terrific success. I have varied the ingredients for different gin varieties. What I do like about his method is making your own concentrates you have more control over how strong or weak you need it to taste. CTC's Jesse just posted a Gin using cucumber which I will entertain when cools down a bit. It's red hot down here currently. Along with yours, Georges, Jesses and Bearded and Bored informational vids are priceless, thanks.
I don’t think I’ll ever get around to making my own botanical concentrate, but I can imagine it’s a good way to get a consistent Gin. And I love the idea of that. I think you’ve been out in the sun far too long if you’re using my name along side G, J and B&B! Keep those sunnies on and the drinks flowing down there 😎
Whether is a good or bad outcome, you just know I’ll make a video of it and show it to you guys. From now on I think I’ll stick with what works with my Gin.
I've tried a few times to make gin for the Good Lady .... and like yourself, have dropped the ball more than once. I remember one famous run where I used angelica root, coriander, juniper and liquorice root. Each of the ingredients smelled perfect. Gin came out smelling like old army socks.
And why not dangle the spices and botanicals in your column…… or do a Soxhlet extraction with ethanol and make some very strong tinctures…… In the past I had rosemary, fennel, black pepper, lemon, lime, juniper, thyme, aniseed, liqorice and many more tinctures. Just adding drops of them in neutral and presto… Or even serve a glass of neutral and let the guest make their own taste profile!!!
You always come up with the goods don’t you! I did do a video on Vapour vs Maceration of botanicals to make Gin. I found the column process was very weak in comparison. The Soxhlet has been mentioned to me before, but I’m not going to buy any more equipment. Although it would probably open up more doors for me to use it in other creations. My next video is also Gin based, and you know it will also be up to my usual standards 🥴 Thank you again and again for your comments 🙏 You know I do read them and take them onboard 😎
@@highly-spirited a small glass soxhlet from Uncle Ali from China is about eur 40,- and you can extract the sh%t out of your junipers/rosemary. I will send you some nice recipes (mix&drink)!
In hindsight, it does seem logical. You infuse the water, add it to the alcohol, immediately you do your run and separate the *infused* water and the alcohol again. So the majority of the flavours remain in the still. Thanks for sharing this so we don’t make the same mistake in the future. 👍
I normally get a range of flavour profiles coming out when making Gin, but alas, even from the very start of the Run this method just don’t want to play ball. Bring on the next disaster! 😆
Always a laugh.. hell with not reinventing... Not for that we will all be using Chinese made wheels and would be in despite need of more high quality Gin 😂🤣😂😂☺️ win some loose some
Well I was definitely disappointed with how rubbish the outcome of the process was, but the saviour of the Junipers, meant it wasn’t a complete waste of time. Keep Shining buddy 😎😎
Rerun with a new gin build use spirt you already ran. Then let it sit in heat for 24 for hours at 20c. Then run it you will have a really amazing gin it’s how I make my gins. One hobby distiller to another. I do enjoy your videos
I use a 25 litre fermentation bucket and recycle the water using a small pond pump. The water will obviously warm a little over time, but it’s easily topped up with cool tap water. If I’m using the pre-condenser then the output from that is far too hot to send back into the bucket. So I save what I can, as not to waste too much water, but it’s only running out at a dribbling pace anyway.
I can only guess that the botanicals either need to be in the kettle whilst it’s being distilled (my usual process), or I needed more of them (especially Juniper)…..or even both of those things come to that matter!
Hey we can be stripping run buddies from now on. Oh wait, that sounds a bit odd 😂 And yep, you live and learn. I will defo stick to what works from now on. Well….until next time 😝
I’ve never used either as I don’t feel the need. The reason. Well, A, it’s down to choice (you don’t have to have it in Gin), and B, the tonic we sometimes use has a hint of lemon in it. 😊
Keep on shining !!!!!

There's a beginner out there watching this video who has just cocked up a run that now knows it's ok & to not give up at the first hurdle.
👍
Always looking at the positives 👍😎
Good effort and glad to hear you pulled off a success eventually..
Thank you!

There’s nothing like hearing about other people’s failures to cheer one’s self up 😆 Thanks for that buddy 😎

Chin up mate. Thanks for trying. We both have had a crap run recently. First of the year ... You Maverick !!!
Give us our dues, we sure are triers aren’t we 🤛 Until next time…..😎
This has probably already been covered in a previous video, but how are you cooling the condenser? just running the tap for ~4 hours?

Nice save but what did you actually do wrong and what should you have done in the first place?

@@highly-spirited ahh ok, thanks
and... this is why i don't get fancy. a ice cube is pretty much my limit...lol
I should have known better shouldn’t I. But I just can’t help making myself look a proper incompetent idiot. Which is one of my superpowers 😉
Funny. We have the same ritual on the stripping part😃
As said earlier, we win some and lose some. Guess that is what we learn from 😉
