- Planning a trip to Thailand? Don’t make these common mistakes!
In this video, I’ll share the Top 10 Thailand Mistakes travelers make and how to avoid them. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or are a seasoned tourist, these tips will help you navigate the Land of Smiles like a pro.
What We’ll Cover:
1️⃣ ATM Fees and Money Exchange: Avoid hidden fees and delayed cards by knowing when to use ATMs vs. currency exchange counters.
2️⃣ Seasons Matter:
Nov-Feb: Best time to visit!
March-April: Hottest months & burning season in the north.
May-Oct: Low season but expect rain.
3️⃣ Overpacking: Save space-laundry is cheap, and you can buy what you need locally.
4️⃣ SIM Card Tips: Use an e-SIM for convenience or grab a cheap SIM card at 7-Eleven.
5️⃣ Google Maps: Trust Google Maps for navigation but check out Michelin recommendations for food!
6️⃣ Over-Scheduling: Don’t pack every moment-leave room for surprises.
7️⃣ Tourist Traps: Don’t judge a place by its touristy areas (Patong, Central Pattaya, Khao San Road). Explore beyond them!
8️⃣ Thai Culture No-Nos:
Don’t touch heads or point feet.
Never disrespect the monarchy.
Be mindful-don’t be loud or aggressive.
9️⃣ Health Insurance: Thailand’s healthcare is great-but it’s also the land of "on your own." Be prepared.
🔟 Don’t Pre-Book Everything: Especially your first trip. Leave room for flexibility and avoid over-committing to tours.
Pro Tip:
Thailand is best enjoyed when you’re informed but open to spontaneity.

Ramze! After a month motorbiking in Vietnam I'm anxious for Thailand in Jan and this vid was not only helpful but I love how you're not dramatic and "Vloggy" but instead simple, concise, sensible and conversational.
Just now subscribed.
Thank you!
Thank you 🙏
Over packing and over scheduling are definitely things people tend to do if they are infrequent flyers. Solid advice for traveling anywhere.
Thank you for all of the very helpful advice on Thailand. I love your delivery of content that is concise and straight tot the point! Can you please recommend a video on " What woman want when travelling to Thailand? perhaps the difference in Thai message to full spa treatment in various Thai popular destinations? Thank you in advance for considering this request:)
Great video. Went to Pattaya and Jomtien for 3 weeks for the first time. Did everything you said. 15 lbs backpack, Schwab and US$ cash, respectful, no preplanned in low season in Sept, with Safetywing, eSIM/nano Sim with 2 iPhones. One more thing I did to prepare for the trip. I learned basic Thai before the trip. Thai ladies love it. Needless to say, I had a great time. Thanks🎉🎉
Thank you so much for all your video I follow you from Australia. I appreciate that you put the price in US so we can understand how much the difference in Thai baht
“Debt to a young lady” ……. Hilarious 😂. Had me rollin 👍🏼
The best part about going to see family for thanksgiving is when I get back, I get to watch 2 videos. Thanks for making the videos during the holidays 👍👍 I appreciate it. I hope your turkey day was good.
Thanks for posting 😊. We love watching you guys.
I sat and watched this video with a friend visiting from the UK. We couldn’t believe that your advice was the exact same as I gave him, and in almost the same order.
Great Vid Ramze.
Glad it was helpful!
We will be slow traveling and Thailand is on our list to visit. Thanks for the tips.👍
You are in for a treat!
Moving to Thailand in January. Thanks for the useful tips!
How exciting! You’re going to have so much fun.

@@michaeldonnellan972 Jomtien/Pattaya.
@@andrewmckenzie4246 You going to keep your home country phone number active? If so, how do you plan to do it?
Great video. Finally a creator who gets to the point! Heading to Thailand for 3rd time in January and these are great reminders! 👍
Thank you 🙏

Awesome, thank you!
Great ❤❤
Did the card forget thing. Lucky had some cash. But my card master card gave me money through Western union. Cost a bit but worth it. Great video all good points.
Thanks for sharing!
Great contents
Thumbs up 👍 Ramze
Excellent info!!
Excellent info & video as always. I think you were naturally born to be a good person with concise & honest advice.
Wow, thank you!
I wont have wifi in my airbnb and i am staying for a month. I need unlimited hi soeed data for 30 days to stream and cast media to my tele but also for surfing net on my laptop and mobile. Which is the best plan in your opinion ? i will be in city centers so network from any provider won't be an issue i guess. I need the value for money deal for a good prepaid sim pack. Have you got any recommendation?
I would try AIS in any mall and see about getting an unlimited 4G plan that allows you to tether to any device.
Thanks for all of the information. Where do you recommend arriving at and what path to follow to see and relax? What about transportation from destinations; public busses, taxis, rickshaws, rental cars, etc.
You’re more than likely arriving in Bangkok. After that, without knowing how long you’re here and anything about you, any info I give you would be a guess.
@RamzeTravels
What kinds of transportation around each city and from city to city?
In Bangkok you have to use the trains to get around efficiently. In a pinch a motorcycle taxi. If going within a couple hours of Bangkok, I would hire a car service which usually costs around 1200 baht for that distance. Busses available e for much less. Anywhere else, I’d fly since flights are relatively affordable. Once you’re in other cities, I’d stick to the Grab and Bolt app for ride share.
@RamzeTravels
Thank you very much!
Great vid Ramze - can you recommend accommodation in bkk? I am looking for something a little more chill - garden, pool, gymnasium but close to sukumvit? Nothing OTT price wise maybe 100 usd/night
If you mean hotel, we generally stay at Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok.
What is the exchange rate like with the ATM?
You get exactly what you day rate if you let your bank do it. So always decline the ATM doing the exchange.
Good advice. Thank you.
My pleasure
I disagree on the laundry issue. I spent the summer in Pattaya and was spending less than $10/month on laundry. This was my second trip to Thailand and I learned from my previous trip how hot and humid it is, so I bought a wardrobe for the climate. Compression shirts, lightweight cargo shorts, lightweight cargo pants and low rise socks. Wearing a t-shirt is way too hot for me. Another thing you didn't mention is that if you visit temples, you should wear long pants and shirts with sleeves (not long sleeves, but cover your shoulders).
Got to admit first trip to Thailand in 2007 I brought a huge suitcase full of clothing 😂😁
Never did that again....carry on now barely fill that.....just buy some shorts and shirts in Pattaya and just dump them before I leave 😁
“If it was lucky I wouldn’t be near you” 😂😂😂😂
Also, make sure your ATM uses an international password, 4 characters long maximum. Some ATM’s will not work with a non-international password.
I'll never get used to going to a restaurant that has seating for 100+ and you're the only one there.
Does happen a lot! Also a dozen employees!
have you got a link for an e-SIM ?
Like I mentioned in the video just Google "Thailand esim" and take the cheapest option. they are all the same.
For the Andre the Giant looking mfers, do you suggest we bring a couple extra shirts, undies, shoes, etc. and then when we need to order from Lazada or whatevs, grab a stable hotel for a week and get replenished that way? Sounds like it's easy enough to get tailored shirts and shorts from a reputable local shop, so you can have more quality control before paying.
Yo Ramz love your work question stayin for a year or so I need super fast unlimited net / phone calls who would you recommend
I got a one year 4G unlimited plan with AIS last year for 3500 baht. Even perfect for me. Did it at Terminal 21 location.
@@RamzeTravels thanks will check it out I’m sure they can offer me something like that also maybe even Dtac cheers
Thank you.
My pleasure
love the natural selection comment, be aware
that ATM fee is INSANE RIP OFF, HOLY COW!!!
You can avoid it if you bring cash and just change your money when you need it🙂👍
Good show Ramze..
Thank you 🙏
pattaya in august is a ghost town in some places
Yes it is. Could be a negative or positive depending on what you’re looking for.
Don't forget a winter coat (or don't go to the cinema 🎥)😮.
I’ve bought my wife 3 blankets at the theater 🙄
@RamzeTravels Do they sell them with the popcorn 🍿? 😱
Yes!
@RamzeTravels Didn't know that - what a great business idea 💡. (🤣)
I can't go to the cinema in Thailand as I fall asleep because it's so cool😁
OK I took my Thai wife to Pattaya for Honeymoon .
BIG MISTAKE !
ATM - some offer an exchange rate - just say no. The exchange rate they give you is a rip-off, whereas if you say no your bank eg charles schwab gives you a proper exchange rate. This ATM exchange rate scam exists all over the world. Just say no
Great point and one I should have remembered to mention in the video!
Drinking the tap water.....
It’s a big no-no, and honestly, even if you’re traveling to the cleanest place in the world, your stomach won’t be accustomed to the local bacteria, and you’re still likely to get a bit sick.
Don't forget to have on your underwear 😂
😳
The law doesn't stipulate that it has to be yours.
Showing the soles of your feet at the side of the pool lol
Most points are too obvious to me, but might be helpful for first-timers
I'm surprised you didn't mention... "Leave your baggage at home"... Nobody wants to hear about your problems, your politics, your status, etc etc etc... You're on vacation... You should be getting away from the "attitude"... Leave it at home...
Great tip
No matter how much u spend, you should save or invest 20 to 50% a month.
If you complain for 10 withdrawal of 220THB fee, just dont travel, you are too poor. FACT
Nobody is complaining. It’s being smart about not giving away money when not necessary. But you probably feel like a baller calling people poor for being smart with their money. 😂
@RamzeTravels Agree with you, but smart is owning real estate, equities and bitcoin. Not "saving" 220THB
Who says you can’t do both? I certainly have and retired at 45. People need to learn to save those “small” fees and be prudent with their money to have money to invest in the first place. The number of individuals I know who enjoy living lavishly and never bother with small expenses are the same people who will work their entire lives. Small money matters. It makes you wiser when you earn real money. Just my two cents from personal experience of being both types of people.
.
@@RamzeTravels I agree with you again, just that this is a bit the coupon mindset. I retired at 35.
@@OIBAN how did u do that man 😂 im 17 so i want to start early with making money (alr got a job) but i dont really know what to do now tbh
In my early years sometimes i just travelled to Thailand with only a plastic bag...Containing my passport, my toothbrush, a T shirt and a pair of boxershorts. Enough to last the first day. No luggage at all. It was all so cheap i rather bought it new then drag around a suitcase. 555
Ramse I know you mean well and you want to advise future holidayers but seriously all these points have been said over and over again. There’s no point really as these points have been reported by vlogger after vlogger after vlogger
There’s no point in flogging a dead horse ….its dead !!!!!?!
6000 views in a few days and counting for a small channel. I’d say, not everyone has seen all the info. There are always new people in this world who decide to come to Thailand and search RUclips for the first time. Mine might be the first they have seen. Seasoned vets will never click on this video just like I don’t on others that are giving info I know. Numbers don’t lie.
@@RamzeTravels yes ramze. No arguement. Maybe I spend way too much time on RUclips ( I’m retired)
And yes perhaps I sounded a bit harsh but no bad intended
Carry on 🙏
