This is all true. Find a Thai girl with a regular job. My wife worked her entire career in a BKK hospital as a nurse's aide. Great person, very honest, never been near the bar scene. We now live in southern California. Very happy.

This is an age-old practice, been going on forever, I will admit that I fell for it back in the 80's when I first visited Thailand, now I just watch the newbies get sucked in by the girls, very entertaining.

Good, I have been going to the Far East for 51 years going back to when Korea was affordable. Just realize a barfine is just short term employment, any employee is just waiting to get off work. You should not read any romantic inferences into the situation. Have fun,but when the fun is done move on and don't try and relive history. It might be hard for some that are young and possessive, but the older you get the more thick skinned you will get to the romance business.

They just have normal conversations with me 😂😂 they don't see me as a customer anymore, and I'll buy them a drink as a friend. people on vacation seem to forget these girls have to pay for basic items such as rent, food, laundry etc etc even before they have made a profit to spend it on whatever their reason is to work in a bar

They may lie about what they need money for, but most of them actually do need to send money home to someone. These girls are not living the good life, scamming tourists. They don't do this job because they like it or are having fun with it. They do it because they need money and they say what might make people willing to pay more money. Stop expecting them to fall in love with you or owe anything, just because you're paying them a bit of money or buying them some drinks. Even when you get a high price, it's still dirt cheap, and in many countries you wouldn't even get a haircut for that price. Treat them with respect and just move on if you don't like what they're offering.

Yes it’s different in Phuket the girls constantly tell you their take home price. They are also pretty upfront about kids. If you compensate them they will meet you before work. Just need to have a relationship. The only thing that is annoying is buy drinks for their friends unless they are pretty as well but it’s usually someone who has no customers and leeches off the better girls.

You are very much correct. I live in the Pattaya area and the restaurant style bars often have more customers going for drinks, just because the bar formula is not as "fun" as it used to be. The ladies seem to be getting more and more lazy over the years. But all should remember, these ladies have a difficult job, long hours, family responsibilities, etc., etc. Just show respect and by all means know the game.

i spent a month in thailand. I bought 1 lady drink the entire time. I actually had to chase down a girl and say, hey, you do that lady drink bs? She goes yes, I said just want to do it once. So we did it and she gave me the behind the scenes truth. I was like this is so stupid, paying almost double for flavored water. its not just the bar girls. I was surrounded by thai women with sponsors. We would hang out, the girls all would talk on their phones with them. Ask for money. Money comes. Next guy calls. They sit around doing nothing all day. Those guys though are doing it with girls in multiple countries. Thai, Philippines, Columbia, Vietnam. They spend a few months at home. Then "date" the girl in that country sponsor them the rest of the year for a 2 month party while together. So its not just bar girls doing this, its all of them.
Same here, except my girl's sponsor bought her 2 bars and sends about 75k baht per month. I love it, no expectations and all fun.

I respect these entrepreneurs trying to earn a buck doing business in South East Asia which is most definitely not a transparent and easy territory to navigate. And on top of that in the bar/nightlife scene!!! That is even more complex and can turn into a nightmare dealing with the local “secret societies”.

Best suggestion I can share is if you’re going to a bar fine type establishment call over the mamasan and give her a tip, buy her a drink if she wants one. Then point out the girls your interested in. And ask any question you like and she will be straight forward. Narrow down your choice based on the info given then call that one over. You have already pre-qualified who will go on a bar fine, if she has kids whatever. Buy one drink just for her and ask if you pay her bar fine will she spend the night with you. Save time and money. Good luck.

On my first trip to Thailand, I did meet a couple bargirls and they were similar to what you say, they both asked me for money when I had gone back home even when I told one that I would never send her money. I'm on my second trip now and I've met someone at an agogo bar and I think she could be different. She immediately did tell me that she has a son when I asked and she claims that she doesn't have regulars that send her money. I don't pretend that our relationship is anything more than me buying her drinks. But I'm really curious if she will start asking me for money. I just enjoy spending time with her. I guess my point is, I find Thai women to be really charming if they lie to you or not.
She most likely will not ask you directly for money but she will manipulate you very slowly into offering her money which you will never see again.

@@tomruth9487 It seems like the mamasan is just trying to milk you too. Remember that their sole function in the bar is to get you to spend as much money there as possible. Watch out for the girl saying stuff like her life is very hard, she or a family member is sick, she needs rent money, a new phone/TV etc. Caring about them is what they rely on to finesse you over time. Personally once I am out of the country I just cease all communication with them. Ultimately they have zero respect for you anyway because you entered their realm ie the bar in the first place.

Didn't realize 20 was age limit for bar girls, so when the news said underage girls they could have meant 19 years olds. They should really consider rephrasing that next time when they announce something like that.

Many hotels will turn away 18 and 19 year olds as well if you try to take them in.
its quite entertaining to not buy a single lady drink & watch how these bar girls operate. Customers can be as capable liars as they are. I generally tell them i arrived today for 2 weeks and flash a bit of foreign dollar around to get them worked up a bit.

I've lived in Pattaya for 30+ years and everything Nolan says is true. Thirty years ago most girls wanted a better life, now days it's all about how much money they can get from you in the short term.
I told a lot of my work colleagues that have never been to Thailand; if you come here for a holiday, have a great time, it's a great place, but if you plan to live here full time and want to have a serious relationship with a Thai woman, better to step back and evaluate the situation with a clear mind. It's a LOT different being here on a holiday compared to living here full time. Also don't think these girls are stupid, they're street smart and have a lot of experience getting money out of guys--short term and long term, when you think you can beat them that's when the trouble starts. Thai women can be loyal, loving partners, it's just working/spending your way thru the chaff to find the right one, could be tomorrow could be years. Be advised; the water can be deep and perilous in Thailand!

Its easy ask after 1 ladydrink. "do you barfine" Ask directly, they will actually give an hornist answer. Its "yes" or "no" or "later i will, mamasan dont allow barfine before 1 am". Allwasys ask after 1 drink. Dont waste time and money on many ladydrinks, without knowing where it will go.

As usual I have a slightly different take, while of course agreeing with all these examples. But here it goes: if these completely minor detours around the truth matter at all to you, then you're doing it wrong. You really should not be in a bar to find a partner for life; you're there to have a good time for an hour, maybe an evening. At best you end up good friends with someone with the understanding that she knows you're already in a relationship somewhere, and you know how she makes her money and the more she makes from guys the better.

im going to Pattaya in february, i have been spending a lot of time on youtube this past week and on google maps, so i can find out as much as i can about it, i have made plans so that i am on day tours every day between 8am to about between 3 and 5 pm, and while the lodge i am staying at is, 1 pretty near to the beach, to the right is a 10 min walk away from walking street and to the left is 10 mins walk away from rock bars where there are no bar girls, a sweet choice of a load of rock bars and cheaper beers :D haha, guess where i will be spending my evening? xD haha

Honestly, I don't understand all the negativity people have about bar girls. They are trying to make a living anyway they can. If you go to these type of bars anywhere in the world and don't think the girls are trying to make money off you anyway they can, you must be living in a bubble. Just go, enjoy and buy them a few drinks. Isn't it's why you're there in the first place? If you're there to just drink and want to be by yourself, just let them know or go to other type of bars.

Good point. If this bar owner has no 'lying girls' in his bar how does he make his cash. Can't be from having a load of lonely old men dring a beer or two. My guess is that he feeds the unwitting tourist into the gladiator ring next door for kick-backs. Tow men half killing each other for the sake of enteratining tourists. Reminds me a line in that Johnny Cash song "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die." I'd rather be exploited by bar girls.

I have done alot of time in Thailand,,,bar scene and village,,when all these farangs do podcasts it's because they are on the bones and trying to make a baht talking up all this type of crap,,,,best advise is keep your credit card close and don't go shouting every bargirl that wants a bar drink,,,only spend on the one you plan to nail that night,,,pick carefully

Never had a bar girl. Only thai experience I had. Met a thai online, liked her friend. Took the friend all over Asia, loving her in many countries.

8:44 That's correct. Chiang Mai (and other cities) are not the same as Pattaya.
Many of the girls, particularly the younger, prettier ones (usually from the mountain villages) and are not interested in bar fines, they are merely there for lady drinks.
Although there are girls in Pattaya who are also only interested in lady drinks, the percentage of them doing so is much smaller than Chiang Mai.
If you're a monger, go to Pattaya, it's practically impossible not to bar fine a different pretty lady every night there.
*If you're young, you will have a better chance of bar fining a lady, particularly if you're genuinely handsome. You might even get it for free believe it or not.
*If you do spend hours buying a lady drinks and she doesn't leave with you, don't go back. If she doesn't go with you on the first night she's clearly not interested in you so don't waste any more time and money on her.
*Never ring the bell. They don't respect you for it, in fact they view you as being a soft touch for doing this and you throwing money at them makes them even less likely to let you bar fine them. "Why bar fine if this guy give me money for nothing"?
If you go into a bar or gogo club anywhere in Thailand, the first thing you do is go meet the mamas son ask her what the bar situation is and how much the lady drinks are. If she says girls don’t barf here, say thank you turn around walk out the door and head to a city that does.

sigh....well, good to know...even if I've heard the story or warning here a zillion times on other channels. I was in Chiang Mai in March and April of this year and had a great time--spent a good deal of time in 'I'm Shy' and this other bar. I'd do my thing during the day and then wife would come join me around 5-6pm. OBviously I'm not gonna try to hook up with any of these girls--I enjoy the flirtation and the titillation of chatting with the girls. I tried to find your bar down the street but never did. I'll return maybe next year.
This is why you don’t go to bars and clubs to find a wife.
