    For my lifestyle and stage of life, Hua Hin combines the quiet of Chiang Mai, the beach proximity of the South, the cost of Jomtien, and the safety of Bangkok. I'm in Jomtien until my lease expires

    I moved to Kamala Phuket from Atlanta Georgia on July 24th. Only been here a month but I've enjoyed it a lot. Big Buddah, famous temples, Bangla Road, Karon Viewpoint, Kamala and Patong Beach, and have tickets to a Muay Thai sporting event in Patong tomorrow night. While it does rain every day for the most part, it rains about maybe an hour, hour and a half, and then you get cloud cover. I'm here until December at the very least. (Thats when my six month lease is up)

    If you love mountain and relatively cool temperature during winter, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai may be your choice. If you love Beach and Island, Phuket and Krabi are great choice. If you love big city with lots of infrastructure and business opportunities, Bangkok is the one. If you love night life with Beach with closed proximity to Bangkok, Pattaya is stand out. However, there are other options for retirees such as Hua Hin (a quiet beach town) or Khao Yai (a rain forest Mountain with national park). Hua Hin and Khao Yai are located near Bangkok. (2-3 hours drive) Every place has pros and cons. The north has bad air pollution during burning seasons. The south has heavy rain during rainy season. Bangkok is a busy place. Pattaya is a sin city. Choose the place based on your preference.

    Great one Ian.
    I am always surprised with the number of tourists that swim in the Jomtien and Pattaya sea water. Don't they wonder why the color of the sea water is coffee brown?
    In Pattaya's defense, it is rather easy to have access to wonderful clean beaches with transparent torquise blue sea water with soft clean white sand on nearby Koh Larn island --> accessible via ferry or speedboat in just 25 minutes from the Bali Hai pier.
    My favorite beach on Koh Larn is Tien beach --> but please don't tell everybody about this amazing beach.

    • @tempustv
      @tempustv  2 месяца назад

      True. Although the color of the water in Jomtien and Pattaya is from the rain runoff, it's not particularly clean. Especially Pattaya, but I've swam in Jomtien as well as pratumnak without any issue. Thanks for watching!

    I've been watching lots of videos on living in Thailand and they pretty much all talked about renting condos. I'll be fully retired soon and wondering if it is possible to rent a living space in Thailand, whatever kind it may be, that's ideally, or close to being, independent and in a not too busy area, but with easy access to public transportation, roughly within USD$200 to 280/m rent range. I only need it to be fully functional with no frills needed. It needs not to be big. I'm a single minimalist, not interested in bar / club scenes, more into nature (mountain / water) and eating well. Do you think this is achievable ? If it is, which city would you recommend, and where can I go find them (websites, agencies you'd recommend, etc)? Thank you for this informative video. It helps a lot. ( Forgot to ask: how would you compare Hua Hin to the cities mentioned in this video?) Thank you.

  • @sooantonysolotraveler
    @sooantonysolotraveler 2 месяца назад

    Yes, you missed Hua Hin town/ city there. You should visit Hua Hin and recently it seen that now Phuket and Chaim Mai were very badly affected by flood caused by very heavy rain, I think in the past Chiang Mai and Phuket could be better but now seen at present Hua Hin can be better because there was no bad news about Hua Hin been affected badly by flood and rains. Yes, I had visited all these town/cities- Bangkok, Phuket, Hua Hin and Pattaya. I was lucky I had visited Phuket, Chiang Mai and Pattaya during past low season time all one time but including Bangkok I visited more often and like it.

    I'm a runner (over 10 marathons so far), and our visit to Bangkok and Chiang Mai didn't indicate anyplace where runs could be easily accomplished. I noticed someone running behind you in Petaya. Do a lot of people run in Petaya? Do you know of places in Chiang Mai and Bangkok where it's a safe (i.e., no tripping hazards) place to run?

    Only thing that bums me out about Thai (SE Asia), besides too many tourists is the "Horrible Air Quality" & the "other world" rcd breaking summer heat (Climate Change) .. I'd "love to home base Bangkok" (in a heartbeat) if not for the Toxic Air .. You can get an air filter for your condo, but out there walk around (not wearing a respirator) .. I got very bored in Pattaya, when not partying and it's way too much of the same / so redundant .. What a place, back in 1985' Blew my mind, last time there in 2011 ..

    I don't understand how you can get good Greek food in Pattaya. Greek cuisine is based on locally produced ingredients, like meats, local caught fish, local feta cheese, vegetables, it's a basic cooking style mainly grilled or oven baked, those ingredients might be similar in nature, but it isn't anything like authentic Greek food. I've lived in Greece 20 years. You'd be better saying ' Greek style ' food.
