I enjoy real and honest reviews. So much better than having a sales person tell you it is amazing just to make a sale.
This is the most honest, down to Earth 4xe review I've seen so far, and I'm not even a Jeep owner. I hope to see this tech on Dodge and RAM vehicles soon.
Thanks! Yes Stellantis just announced that this tech is making it's move across the board.

Oh sweet more videos, thank you. Now I really want a hybrid with that torque & range LOL.
im a jeep owner and im not one for hybrids or ev's at all as well. But, I love this vehicle and if i were to get one it would definitely be a hybrid. I prefer having the backup of one or the other in case im out of charge/gas. Im not sold on full EV yet. Plus we really dont have the nationwide infrastructure for charge stations. We all arent California lol. But I test built one on the website and choose the exact model and color you have there. That has got to be of the best looking silver paints in a while to come along. Thank you sir for the informative video.

@Saltponds239 most already are too expensive period. thats one of the biggest problems. govt wants us to move on to them, automakers want it too. but until the vast majority has the money, good luck to them.
Proud owner of Rubicon 4xe for 8 weeks now and couldn’t agree more than what you shared in this review!
PS: The default operating mode of 4xe is Hybrid
Thanks for watching!
How are you liking so far
how many miles/km's do you actually get from a full tank of fuel? It says 4.8km/100km's, and a 65 liter fuel tank. But the math doesnt add up becuase that would be about 1300km's to a tank of gas and the website is showing 600km's to a tank. so kind of confused (sorry canadian here)
@@garrylarose1506 you are confused because 600km range is based on one charge per tank of gas. While 1300km is based on multiple charges: e.g. you charge to full every 100km.
Easily one of the most comprehensive 4xe videos I've watched, fantastic!

Just bought one today and had a ton of questions about the hybrid system, your video answered a lot of those questions, thank you!
I am trading in my 21’ Durango SRT for the high altitude 4xe. I am so excited but I know I will miss the unapologetic 392…. Looking forward to a full electric commute tho!!
This thing has power! Just took ours on a beach vacation and absolutely love it! 24+MPG on the way down. Doors off, top down at the beach, and plenty of passing power when needed. Couldn’t be happier. Tax credit for new, and soon also if you buy used.
Tax credit from?
I get 24mpg in a 18 Durango 3.6 v6.
What is city for the 4xe ?
@@GreaterIndianapolisLiving tax credit from the federal government. If you lease, some banks take that off the residual.
@@GreaterIndianapolisLiving if I don’t plug in and charge, it’s still getting around 25mpg. We plug in though. It all depends on how far your commute is. On a normal week, we’re seeing over 40.
Thanks for the review, super helpful. Just placed an order for a 4xe High Altitude! It's my first jeep and I included the Sky 1 touch roof, I hope I don't regret it! Couldn't be more excited!

Firstly - as a Chicagoland native, I thought I recognized the accent!
More importantly, this review was outstanding. Extremely helpful and informative. I’m going to test out a Sahara 4xe today and can’t wait.
Thanks for the comments my fellow Chicagolander
What a great review! Jeep should pay you for all the people you convinced with this video!! We love our Sahara 4xe so far. About 200 miles on her.
Thanks! Glad you are loving the 4xe :)
Great review. Well done. Deciding if a 4xe is right for our next Wrangler and this was very helpful. One other drawback that I don’t think you touched on is the modification to the back storage area (due to batteries) when the back seats are down. Not the same amount of flat storage area (eliminates the Jeep mattress etc.). Thanks for the work on this.
Fair point. I talk about that in my 1 year review. posting here shortly.

Glad to see an anti-electric/hybrid person actually put it to the test. More power, more efficient, and costs less to run... why would folks be against it? A lot of hybrids have been this way and were all killed off around 2018. Sad to see, but nice to see folks starting to get that a combo can work well, and better than just a gas powered version.
Agreed! :)
maybe not cost prohibited... costs less to run, but more to buy???
Concept is great in theory & in short-term operation. But the high price, unproven long term durability & it being a Fiat Chrysler product, are all major reasons to be concerned.
@@jdmoney1000 exactly... it will take many YEARS before any "saving" money on gas will out weigh the purchase price

Great review, answered alot of my questions! Just ordered a 2022 Sahara 4xe yesterday!
You've satisfied all my questions. Thanks!
Bought 2 in the beginning of May, as My girl is a Jeep girl. Two things I said I'd never do.
1.) Never buy a new car
2.) Never buy a Jeep
I was looking for a hybrid but most of them compromise the vehicle to make an "egg." I somehow came across the Jeep 4xe and went to look at it and bought it that day without even test driving it. My girl, not being out done bought the exact same but in a different color. We both opted for the 4xe Sahara "mall crawler" edition...lol
Here's why I broke my two rules. #1 is because of the 7,500 tax credit. This EV qualifies for the full amount which makes this vehicle less than a gas powered Sahara with all the same options. Not to mention as I'm looking for hybrids and electric vehicles, this cost is within the same as others. #2 is because Jeep said "Jeep first!" Also the fact that it is a plug in hybrid and the HVAC components do not need the engine running to work.
Overall we love these vehicles which gives us the availability to do anything from going to the mall in comfort or driving the sand dunes in Corolla NC with the wild horses.
whats the gas mileage like? how many on a full tank with full charge?
@@yegman it really depends on how often you charge it..
For electric charging costs runs about 70 cents for a full charge in NC. I also have solar and am on a time of use program so technically the solar could fill it.
Not bad
At an avg. cost of 12 cents /kw would cost $0.91 / hour of charging.
Great review! As a Pacifica PHEV (>4000 miles/tank!) and Wrangler JK owner, I've been anxiously waiting for the Wrangler PHEV.
Hint: To maximise the EV range, use max regen only when you need it and switch to neutral to coast whenever possible. This eliminates micro acceleration/deceleration cycles, which aren't as efficient as coasting, and conserves the battery. Only for the range clowns, but you can add a couple of miles to the electric range. Agree that the vehicle makes it a game.
One other note: The PHEV is actually less efficient than the regular (e-torque) Automatic after the battery runs out. So if you do a lot of trips over 20 miles, especially on the highway, this might not be the Wrangler for you.
Lastly, the electric heater DRAINS the battery if you use it (See the 5-7 kW on the info screen.) Range drops by 1/3 with the heat on in the winter. So if you have a trip over 20 miles, force the gas mode to start and warm the engine - then use the warm coolant for cabin heat and the battery to drive the Jeep.
Question: If you use the "Remote start" to warm the car, how much battery is gone before you start?
all good points ,yes. THey did however flash max regen - and it seems much less crude.
We have not used remote start in cold climate yet. I'll report back.
Jeep should have just made a full EV like GMC Hummer did… 450 mile range…. What’s Jeep’s problem. Even the Suburu hybrid platforms perform better. No cargo space but 90mpg

On the electricity cost: Watts equals volts*amps. Level one charges on 15 amps at 120 volts. On level two it’s 30 amps at 240 volts. Mine takes about 15-16 hours on level one and about 2.5 on level two at summer temps (70-90 degrees F). Depending on what you pay per kWh, I’m looking at about $3 per day level one or $2.10 per day on level two. Level two is definitely the way to go, but charging up if you don’t drive far regardless is a massive cost saver, especially with current fuel prices.

Outstanding video! Liked and subscribed.

Great review, best I’ve seen, definitely changed my perception of the 4XE.
1st, fantastic review and footage. I so appreciate the time and effort folks like your self put into these videos to help others. A Jeep guys myself, waiting to order a 2022. I'm also a diesel guy but with EPA mandated equipment and all the issues potential there, looking for other options. Also a non electric/hybrid guy like you, but very intrigued with the 4xe (Rubicon version). My wife will use as her top down daily, about 46 miles per day round trip to work (Charleston, SC area). So half of her trip will be all electric, possible both ways if her hospital decides to install a charger in her assigned parking lot. Big questions, we plan to tow our off road specific trailer (3500lb loaded), to CO...UT etc. how long can we drive, enjoying all the great hp and torque in hybrid mode before the battery is dead? I have asked my RAM/Jeep dealer the same question...nothing yet. I understand the 20 plus all electric miles, but how far should one expect in hybrid mode. Once we leave our area, west on I26, will the battery be depleted by the time we reach the hills 200 miles west? If so, now you have the 4 cyl. Engine and 500 plus extra pounds of dead battery and electric motor to haul in addition? I thank you in advance for any assistance. Best to you and yours sir
Big questions, we plan to tow our off road specific trailer (3500lb loaded), to CO...UT etc. how long can we drive, enjoying all the great hp and torque in hybrid mode before the battery is dead?
So leaving it in hybrid mode is your best bet. Unless you specifically want to save all electric for your destination. In hybid mode your battery will be dead in about 27-30 miles. Having said that - even with a "Dead Battery" I have not noticed a loss in Hp or torque. There is a reserve beyond the "dead battery"
I have asked my RAM/Jeep dealer the same question...nothing yet. I understand the 20 plus all electric miles, but how far should one expect in hybrid mode.
It will generally deplete the battery first and then move to fuel - so even in hybrid mode you'll get the same range.
Once we leave our area, west on I26, will the battery be depleted by the time we reach the hills 200 miles west? If so, now you have the 4 cyl. Engine and 500 plus extra pounds of dead battery and electric motor to haul in addition?
Yes - but even so you'll find the benefits of the 4xe with a dead battery. Stop lights, you'll still start on electric. Down hill, will be electric. etc.
I also came from a standard Jeep JL before this. Comparing to that - I still get better MPG when my 4xe battery is dead than my non 4xe Jeep - so IMO, it's still a win
@@JeepsOnTheRun great response, exactly the information I was hoping for. Again, thank you very much for your time. This will be very helpful in our purchase decision. Best regards

There is a lot of great info here, more than I've found this far and I've been searching all day. Now, to help you find a downfall, when you drive aggressively, your engine goes from 0 RPM to 4000 RPM in less than a second, while the oil is still down in the pan. I don't see that being very good for engine wear at all. Most of gas engine wear is done when it's cold and the oil hasn't been circulated though the engine yet. It may be a good idea to warm the engine before each drive so all the moving parts have warm (thin) oil on them prior to restarting, especially if you're an aggressive driver. Just a thought.
Great review, thanks very much! Super informative and much better than some of the larger channels who just go over the very basic info.

The only issue I see is that if you'd like to buld 4xe into true Overland rig, the space where the bateries are under the seats can not longer be utilised as storage under the flat floor such builds usualy have and ofcourse when it comes to overlanding space is premium.
Great vid, I love keeps but not the fuel economy plus rise in gas prices, I may have to pony up for a 4xe rubricon

Great review! Never owned a Jeep, a Ram man, after your review I wanted one. My guess would be this technology will migrate to Ram.

Great video, thank you for the information
Thanks for watching!!
Great review! You hit on a lot of questions that people ask, which haven't been addressed by any of the reviews that I've seen to date.
I response to your question about why anyone would want to use the gas engine to charge up the batteries:
*_Because time is money; and I don't have the time to sit around and wait for the batteries to charge up. I also can't afford to purchase a second vehicle for long distance driving._*
Essentially, what I need in a hybrid is the ability to charge up the batteries, while driving that on gas power... AND without taking a hit on fuel economy. The vehicle should get the exact same MPG when driving under gas power on the highway, whether it's charging the batteries, or not. The 4xe is still Gen1, so it can only get better from here... unless Stellantis decides to sabotage it.
I appreciate your comments.
How hot do the batteries get being they are inside under the back seat? Jeep had to put them there to protect them from off road mishaps but does it heat up the interior? I live in Arizona and it’s hot as hell here. I also have kids in car seats, would ambient heat or fire concern you?
Ive got an important question, I hope you'll be able to answer. The battery is stashed under the backseat inside the car. How much Electro Magnetic Field is it putting out affecting the back seat passengers? And what about the front seat passengers? Do you know?I found one study that said electric cars in general do put out significant EMF. But I didn't find anything about this new Jeep. And the difference with the Jeep is that Jeep wanted to keep the Rubicon able to clear 30 something inches of water, so they put the battery IN the car, as you pointed out. I assume other hybrids don't put the battery IN the car, though not sure. Thanks for your consideration. Excellent video.
Joining this question, can you maybe run an EMF test and share the results? Great review!
You’re surrounded 24/7 by emf. Especially in cars. Not to mention your phone constantly on you or Bluetooth buds in your ear, TVs, stoves fridges, fitbits, smart beds, etc etc. There’s no escaping it and definitely not worth worrying about it or trying to avoid. If you are worried, then time to lose all electrics and go 100% off grid. Good luck
Awesome review and I like, you explain near perfect 👍🏻
Awesome video 😀 I'm thinking about picking one up and I'm in California.
Thank you! We LOVE our 4xe
My Rubicon 4xe will be in around the 20th of July. I'm leasing for 24/27 months. The $7500 tax credit is being applied as a down payment through the lease company and the lease company also adding a very low interest rate making my payments $50 less then my current 19 Sahara but with almost every available option and a 2 rather then 3 year lease. All maintenance included. It's really a no brainer. $63K vehicle with a payment of a Prius. LOL
YEs. exactly!
Did you go through the internal leasing company or use your own leasing institution? If you went with your own, do you mind sharing the name as they may be more familiar with this process and help others accomplish the same.
Excellent review thanks!
Great review. When on Hybrid mode, what is your average mpg?
It really depends on how often we charge it. The more you can charge the better you'll see your results.
Great review! I just purchased mine 3 weeks ago, so far I’m loving. I’m trying to figure out when I should use the electric. The battery seems to drain really fast when I do use it.
Use Hybrid mode, let the Jeep do the thinking for the best fuel eco
Extremely helpful review! Thank you!
I'm not a hard-cord off-roader, just an average commute driver. I'm been always wanting a vehicle looks cool as Wrangler but mileage as Prius. So this 4xe is the best packet for me. Thanks for your detail n honest review.

Even if they were more affordable, I probably wouldn't go for a hybrid truck right now, but this has changed my perspective on electric! Will be interesting to see the future of electric trucks
What's your thought of the Ram REV?
Love the video. I have a 99 grand Cherokee and have been watching some videos of 4xe. Would like to see what kind of towing capacity the 4xe has and what kind of distance you get. You said that you did some towing with it. What kind of load. A full size camping trailer or a small trailer caring a lawn mower. Have wanted to go electric for a while and would be interested in trading in my Jeep for one.
A small amount of around town stuff. A wrangler at the end of the day isn't built for towing, 4xe or not. I actually drag the 4xe behind my RV.
It's very interesting, but my thing is this 4xe does not get very good gas mileage with it being a hybrid, I drive all highway miles about 80 miles round trip. So gas mileage will kill me. Why I went with Toyota venza hybrid, I'm getting 37 mpg. Hope they improve the gas mileage with the 4xe, if not I hope maybe Toyota comes out with something similar to this. Love your video.
It's a fair point. W/o a charge, it's about the same MPG as standard wrangler. This is for sure better suited for people with more local trips.
Great review. Love my JLU, but interested in the 4xe. Just subscribed. Thanx.
Thank you!!
I have a Jk 2017 Im thinking in change and was for the dealer today and test the 4xe. Really liked this car, cero noise and powerful but is so expensive plus you need pay an extra $7k if you want buy. This was so expensive to me and I can’t afford.

I’m sure 2022 will probably include electrical connections enabling campers to be able to use their appliances and charging stations. That would really be a wonderful upgrade for this model of Jeep
You can charge at a campground :)
Booked my testdrive for coming Monday but I’m honoustly already sold on it. The only thing holding me back is 1) the price and 2) the amount of doors. I get the battery doesn’t fit in the 2dr but I’d be tempted to sacrifice the backseats tbh....
Let us know what you decide!
@@JeepsOnTheRun So I did the testdrive in the 4xe Sahara. The dealership is down in the valley right at the start of the ascend up to my village. They gave me a full battery and full tank, before I went uphill to see how far I could get. Incredibly, at EXACTLY the moment I reversed into my driveway, the battery gave up. I tracked my journey on Strava:
20 minutes drive
Average speed of 50kmh (30mph)
Distance 16,3km (10,2miles)
Elevation gain of 1 km (.6miles).
Downhill, I got about 7km (4,5miles) back in the battery on full regen e-save mode.
For me, that doesn't do it. I checked the logs I keep for my business travelling and they are all within 40km distance. But the full battery only gets me halfway...Also, I found the drive much better than the JK but still.....I'm not sure if I can get used to this as my DD. I drove the Defender straight after the Jeep and well, that's a completely different animal on the tarmac naturally. I'm torn...
Great review. Is it ok to keep your charger outside? I will be buying an all electric car in addition to the Jeep, but only have a 1 car garage.
I'm going to say yes, it will be fine. My FIL has had a volt for a few years now and no garage. He hangs the charger from a little metal garden plant holder to keep it off the ground, snow and ice.
