I appreciate your concern for the beer during Shrek's fight. lol
Shrek is love, Shrek is life
I hate that video i regreted watching it
It's all ogre now.
Iconic!
Don't ruin it
This is my swamp.
This movie was up for two Oscars. Best Adapted Screenplay (the only non-Pixar animated movie to be nominated for writing), and Best Animated Feature (becoming the very first winner when this category was introduced). Shrek was truly an iconic film that defined a generation, and I’m glad that internet culture has kept it in the spotlight. ❤️
Shrek is a masterpiece
Fun fact(I learned this from my Grandma): "Shrek" means "ugly/hideous" in Yiddish!
This is one of those films that you can rewatch over and over again and still see something new. I love the way the villian's name is actually "fk wad" but only when you say it right. The muffin man dialog is actually the words of a nursery rhyme.
The muffin man makes me laugh every time
You're right. I was today-years-of-age when I discovered, via your comment, the meaning behind Farquaad's name.
The concern for spilled beer and then the growl and flex. Priceless reaction. Great one.
8:37 Shrek: 'Grrrrr!' Dasha: 'Grrrr!' Absolutely adorable. Dasha comes up with amazingly astute observations one minute then reacts like a 10yo the next. A very rare mix but one that just works on every level.
Shrek begin fight multiple knights
Dasha: all the beer get wasted.
So fun. Shrek 2 is a must!
Agreed. Beyond that, though, I'm not so sure
best one in the series
Yes, I'd love to see her react to Shrek 2!
@@nsasupporter7557 It was.
@@nsasupporter7557 Um what? The second one is literally the best lol.
I love how this movie was a giant middle finger to Disney.
Ol' Jeffry Katzenbug (as Robin Williams would call him). He was a petty bugger.
But that pettiness got us Shrek.
Not exactly
Yes, now Disney is a big middle finger to Disney.
@@adrianrocha49
I don't really see how that makes sense
@@laurynhoy Well, some believe that, if Walt were alive today, he'd be ashamed of what his company had become.
I remember seeing this in the theater and when the joke: "I've got to save my ass" came. Me and my friend where the only three laughing out loud. Still one of my favorites :D
Fun trivia fact: Dasha's nail polish on her right hand represents Dr. Pepper jellybeans, and the nail polish on her left hand represent licorice jellybeans. This represents the universal two sides of the duality of man. Dr. Pepper, and licorice.
This comment ruined my life.
There's actually 3 different voice dubs for the original movie but only one released publicly.
First Shrek was voiced by Chris Farley, but he passed away before they could finish. So they scrapped and started over again with Mike Myers.
Only, originally Mike Myers voiced the movie with his regular accent (he's Canadian).
And they nearly finished it at that.
But then Mike Myers had a change of plan: he insisted that the movie wouldn't work unless he had a _Scottish_ accent; he got the idea because his grandma used to read him bedtime stories with a Scottish accent and when he tried it on Shrek's lines it was too perfect _not_ to include. But by that point he had already recorded the bulk of his lines so he had to go back and re-do the entirety of his part with the new accent.
“Eavesdroppers never hear anything good.” Words to live by
There are a lot of "inside jokes" based on how the writers felt about Disney World. In the second movie, they meet Fiona's parents at a satire of Disneyland in California.
The town is modeled after Hollywood, CA though, whereas Duloc is spoofing Disneyland.
Definitely something for all family members in this movie. Even teens who thought they were too old and too cool for cartoons loved it lol
6:16 "Do You Know The Muffin Man" is a classic children's song here. Also, "Run run run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me! I'm the Gingerbread Man" is part of The Gingerbread Man story... Both you should read!
Grew up watching this movie all my life
"Children's movie?" Nah, it's a family movie: It has something for every age group, and nothing is unsuitable for the little ones.
“The beer gets wasted!”
Lol
When I was little I would cry until my parents put on Shrek before bed, probably watched it over 100 times!
The song played at the beginning is called "All Star" by the American band Smash Mouth it was very popular in the mid 90's, same band sang ''l'm a Beleiever" at the end as well
Great job Dasha! Another fun reaction to another fun movie. I'm glad you got to see it in its original. Also nice to see you worried that the beer was being wasted. Keep up the great work.
Eddie Murphy has done some great work, but his voice on this is the Cherry on top of the Cake. Great reaction to a film that always makes me smile. Thanks Dasha.x Cheer's 🇬🇧
Fun reaction to such a fun movie. Part 2 is pretty good too, might want to check that out
Another great reaction.
Near the end, Donkey started singing Try A Little Tenderness, and old R&B song. One of the most famous covers is by Otis Redding, but the below is my favorite. Fun Fact: everyone in The Commitments sang or played their own instruments.
ruclips.net/video/PKfHC5eY5CI/видео.html
Of course the guy whose voicing Shrek also portrayed Austin Powers and Dr Evil in those movies. That would be Mike Myers.
But he will ALWAYS BE::
Wayne Campbell.
Party On Jon.
Shrek was originally going to be voiced by Chris Farley. Dasha hit the nail on the head about it’s a kids movie with adult jokes. The adult jokes go right over the kids heads. It’s awesome.
@@nsasupporter7557 yes indeed. I think they had about 80 or 90 percent of his line’s record
Chris Farley probably would've done a good job of it, though.
I was a big fan of his, it broke my heart when he died. I was 14, and the idea that someone as young as him could just drop dead...
Of course, I didn't know about his drug abuse problems at the time.
My favourite thing in all of cinema is how gingerbread man was never asked who was married to the muffin man 🤣🤣
it took me almost 20 years to realize that donkey is one of the bad kids from Pinocchio that got older.
"Oh.. Its like a cotton candy....ewwhughgh...." LOL. My favorite part of this reaction.
Потрясающий мультик, красивая девушка, оболденная реакция! Всё просто идеально получилось! Удачи с каналом Даша!
This is still my all time favorite animated movie
The _only_ decent thing Farquaad did in this movie was actually giving Shrek his swamp back. :')
9:34 "You _dense, irritating, miniature_ beast of burden!"
Now _there's_ an insult! 😆
The Muffin Man is an English kid's nursery rhyme. That conversation would have made a lot more sense to you if you'd grown up in an English speaking country. (Not that nursery rhymes ever make any sense, but you would have recognized it.)
@@nsasupporter7557 That's a good question. Dasha, how did you learn English?
Dasha, the magic mirror with Lord Farquat at the beginning is a parody of a 1960s TV show called "The Dating Game." You can probably find some old episodes of it online somewhere.
Some english tales you should know for context: The "muffin man" is a nursery rhyme.
Do [or "Oh, do"] you know the muffin man,
The muffin man, the muffin man.
Do you know the muffin man,
Who lives on Drury Lane?
Yes [or "Oh, yes"], I know the muffin man,
The muffin man, the muffin man,
Yes, I know the muffin man,
Who lives on Drury Lane.
The ginger bread man is a fairy tale.
Run, run as fast as you can!
You can't catch me.
I'm the Gingerbread Man!
The Shrek films are really good..
You will Love the sequels.
The entire Shrek series is worth watching. I hope you take the full journey.
Great job, as usual! 🙂 I hope you are going to react to the other Shrek movies too! Love them!
I hear a lot of people who like to nitpick this film series say "in what universe is Robin Hood French?" It's actually more likely than you'd think.
Most modern retellings like to cast Robin Hood as an exiled nobleman set during the time of the crusades (c. 1100's). This would put him only a few decades after the French-born William the Conqueror took over England and gave a lot of his French friends positions of power. So the chances of Robin Hood growing up in a French speaking household would've actually been pretty high.
In fact, it would be practically guaranteed. The language of the English nobility at the time of the Third Crusade (when Robin is most commonly depicted) was Norman French. Richard I didn't even speak English at all!
I’ve never heard anyone nitpick this over Robin hood
@@rawtrout007 most I've heard complaining about it are Cinemasins fans who parrot everything he says.
Fun fact:
When they did the first test showing in theaters, the Shrek soundtrack was not finished, so Allstar playing in the opening title was just a stand in. However, the audience loved Allstar so much they kept it.
Also, Shrek was originally going to be a throw away movie and the people assigned to do it were assigned it as a “punishment.” So, the creators turned around and decided they were going to make this amazing movie and it turned into this masterpiece.
The voice of the Donkey is none other than Eddie Murphy... :)
The way Dasha says " it's a cookiee" so cute 💙 she always has the best reactions and video's
The way you say the word cookie is the cutest thing ever in history of history.
Awesome movie and series. I have lovedthese movies ever sense it came out. Great reactions, Dasha.
The developers went all out on this movie, it’s still iconic and funny
All of the songs in the movie were popular and well known long before it came out. Of course, they got more attention because of the movie.
Yeah, I still remember my friend's wife's daily sing and dance-along to this movie for about a year or so...
I some reason laugh when the magic mirror is like technically your not a king....yet haha
Gingy's torture is my favorite scene.
The sequel is even better!
Yes, Shrek 2 is great! I'd love to see Dasha's reaction to it!
"Not the gundrop buttons! "
I had the “Snow White scene” in number 3 spoiled for me, I was on my way to go see it, stopped at a blockbuster video to get a drink, that scene came on..
Til this day the Shrek movies still have some of th best sound tracks
"…that's what friends do, they forgive each other." Dasha: Yes! That had me laughing so hard. It was funny but like so many things she says and does, it was also adorable. I have watched this movie so many times and yet I never really got emotional watching it until I watched her reaction. Never change Dasha, I mean that.
Shrek was originally going to be played by Chris Farley. It had a different story and animation style. He had most of the dialog recorded, but he unfortunately passed away from drug overdose before it was finished.
So they got Mike Myers to play him, but Mike Myers wanted them to rewrite it to better fit him. Then they redone the animation for it.
There is a rough sketch of a scene of the Chris Farley version on RUclips where you can hear the dialog exchange between Chris Farley's Shrek and Eddie Murphy's Donkey. It's the campfire scene that exists in this Mike Myers version of the movie. Apparently it's the only scene that they didn't change.
I miss Chris Farley. He was my favorite as a 90's kid. 😕
ginger bread man has the best come back/ fight scene in any movie in shrek 2. i love him.
There are a lot of background gags that get missed in the first viewing. One of the darkest ones is the Three Bears. Mamma Bear was made into a bearskin rug.
I love how the Robin Hood they copy is actually Robin Hood: Men in Tights...
"Hey nonnie-nonnie, and a ho, ho, ho! Break it down."
I absolutely LOVE the thumbnail Dasha! 😂
The cute little dances at the beginning 😁😁
Loved your reaction. Even though you missed some of the jokes because some English fairy tales you haven’t experienced yet.
And yes, the other Shrek movies are worth reacting to
You are so adorable!! ' it's like cotton candy ' 🥴🥴🥴....🤣🤣🤣🤣 I understand why so many people love your reactions 🥳🥰🎉👍
hahahaha ooo all the beer gets wasted. my kinda girl
Урааа Шрек!) Мой любимый мульт;)
It's an interesting premise that you can spend your life dreaming of an outcome and it can come true, in a completely different way than you could have expected.
Omg the thumbnail! Didn't even realize it for a second! :D
The cool thing is to realize that Lord Farquaad would never be king marrying a princess.
Cinderella is a commoner, Snow White has a queen stepmother, and Fiona has both living parents.
The best he could hope for would be a Prince Consort, as he would be unable to inherit the throne in his own right.
He never would've been king anyway.
If any of those women were next in line to inherit the crown, he would only be a prince if he married her.
EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize someone else already explained that.
Watching Shrek 2 is a must
19:50 "Violent, but -- okay." 🐍🤣🎈
Glad you liked it....i seen this when it came out...i was 32...enjoyed the heck out of it.
Gingerbread: do you know....the muffin man?
Farquad: the muffin man??
Dasha: the muffin man??? 🤣🤣
Damn, that was funniest and cutest thing 🤣
It's more hilarious if you're familiar with all the old famous nursery rhymes and fairy tales.
6:09 That conversation makes more sense if you're familiar with the "Do You Know The Muffin Man" song.
You are just adorable. This will forever be an iconic movie.
This movie was so hilarous my wife and laughed so much along withbevery adult in the theater backbin 2001
You should definitely watch Shrek 2, which introduced another lovable character who got its own franchise. Also recommend Shrek the Musical, which was the musical theatre production based on this film.
7:32 - If the singing puppets creep you out, you need to watch Shrek's Halloween special, Scared Shrekless. :)
There are three sequel movies and three shorts;
Shrek: The Ghost of Lord Farquaad (2003) (Video) (Short)
Shrek 2 (2004)
Shrek the Third (2007)
Shrek the Halls (2007) (TV Short)
Shrek Forever After (2010)
Scared Shrekless (2010) (TV Short)
Then there are the Puss in Boots spinoffs;
Puss in Boots (2011)
Puss in Boots: The Three Diablos (2012) (Video)
(Short)
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
There was also a TV show, but it had different voice actors.
The donkey even looks like Eddie Murphy who voiced him.
Perfect reaction, Dasha!
This movie made Hallelujah (Rufus Wainwright version) one of my favorite karaoke songs... of course, the lyrics cut for the movie are fantastic... just not child appropriate
If it had the Shrek In The Swamp Karaoke Dance Party at the very end, it would be a little longer. But unfortunately I've only ever seen that on the Shrek VHS. Even streaming websites like Netflix cut that part out for some reason! Who knows? Maybe I'm the only one who always watches movies until the end credits are over and that's why I've only ever seen it on the VHS!
SHREK IS LOVE, SHREK IS LIFE!
Eddie Murphy actually said he wouldn’t do the movie unless he could sing, so they let him do that at the end
Donkey is without a doubt on the top 25 of best movie characters ever lol
SHREK: AAAAHHHH!!!!!!!! DASHA: GRRRRRRRR!
OK. that thumbnail is AWESOME! You match perfectly with Fiona... ❤
So fun fact, never thought of this till now, but if farquad would have talked with his guard they could’ve just brought Snow White over on condition for the dwarfs (if his true loves kiss actually worked is a different matter).
4:55 And just like that, a legendary meme was born.
it doesn't matter what you look like as long as you aren't SHORT - then it' okay to point and laugh
Speaking as a “short guy” I don’t think they would’ve ridiculed Farquaad’s height if he wasn’t such a jerk.
Both of you have valid points. But you cant both be right, can you? So now i am just confused lol
Editing just gets better and better on your video icons.
14:40 "Wow, she's bossy!" Well, she _is_ a princess! 😝
"Number 3✌️ my Lord." 🤣
If you like Hallelujah, the best version was probably done by Pentatonix.
It's easy enough to find here on RUclips. It's got -tens- hundreds of millions of views.
I'm only like 7 minutes or so in, and a lot of references to children's nursery rhymes are in this (the gingerbread man joke about his broken legs is a line from one, and The Muffin Man is another one for instance.) It's just one of those times when where someone grew up is how many of them they'll catch or not.
Great raction Dasha!
Oh and "Kids" DreamWorks movies are adult films disguised as children's films.
The Muffin Man bit is spoofing the children's nursery rhyme The Muffin Man.
I liked parts 1 and 4 the most. 😀
"Shrek": The anti-Prince Charming turns out to be a Noble person.;)
How funny - "His fart...his Words are very, very strong."
Many of these songs are either covers or the originals (which likely came out before her parents were born)
. Still, great music.
Dasha, there is a song that goes "Do you know the muffin man, the muffin man, the muffin man! Do you know the muffin man who lives on Drury Lane? Duloc is supposed to be a little bit like Disney Land.
Oops -- you need a closing quotation mark.
fun fact: there are a lot of disney references in this movie, because a producer of this movie got fired from disney. 😂
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
