  • Continuing on with the basic maintenance series, today we're changing the oil on a 200 Series Land Cruiser with a 5.7. Please excuse my voice. I had the flu a couple weeks ago and still have the cough so my voice is garbage. Hope you find the video helpful!

    Thanks for the how-to. Can definitely tell your experience by how you move during the procedure. The form-a-funnel tip was helpful. Cheers.

    Nice you actually torque and tell what the specs are for the tightness. 99% of dealers I have ever seen just hammer down on the bolts till they can't move and call it a day.

    I have this vehicle, and did not realize how many steps it takes to actually change the oil and filter. Now, I'm suspicious that my dealer does all these steps. I wonder if they skip the filter. I had a 100 series years ago , and never realized until later that the techs just discarded the oil access panel on the underbody. I wonder if they replace the bolts, and certainly believe that nobody is torquing. If I were younger, I would do this myself. At least I could sleep at night. Well done.

      I've also noticed "bite marks" on the wings of the fill plug from the techs using a pliers to crank it tight. It's not a flywheel or a fan blade. What's wrong with finger thumb tightness? I've also noticed missing cowling or panels never replaced in the engine compartment. I may never have noticed, however, left behind are the washer/bolt mark indentations where the part was sitting. Same with those little press fit plastic buttons that hold the engine covers in place (at least on Lexus). For the most part, they are single use press buttons and the flanges bend when you pop them out. But who ever bothers to replace?
      I had a LX 470 several years ago and was told by the dealer to take it to this reputable muffler shop. I had all OEM equipment replaced. The master tech owner never attached the muffler gaskets at the connections. Appalling lack of attention to detail.
      I really enjoy OTRAMM episodes because there is a sense of peace of mind when you see things done with the intention and purpose of the design engineers, instead of making it up as you go along.

    Thanks for more 200 series content. As a recent 100 to 200 series convert, it's nice to see your videos for us. Have you thought of doing some of the more involved 200 series jobs/videos like valley plate leak, cam tower, etc? At any rate, love the videos!

      We don't see too many 200s. I've yet to actually see one with the cam tower leak in person. I think I've only done two valley pans. It's hard to film a lot of the repairs. The videos depend on what comes in to the shop for repair and how busy we are at the time.

    The filter wrench as a cool feature...and it's purple!! 😁. Clean looking undercarriage on that 200.

    Otramm, you rebuilt my daughters 100 series front differential in 2020 after the magnet broke off of the drain bolt…that was a great day…. Anyway it’s running great! What are your thoughts about changing out the plastic housing for the metal one?

    • @OTRAMM
      @OTRAMM  8 месяцев назад +2

      Glad to hear it's running well. I don't see a problem with running the plastic housing provided it's torqued properly. The ones I've seen broken have been way over tightened. I'd rather have the plastic housing break than the more expensive engine side of the filter housing.

      @@OTRAMMHi, I’m a new follower, I was wondering where can I get one parts for my 99 Lexus LX470, I need to replace front suspension bushing right cv axle, and almost everything on the suspension since it’s got 247000 miles, but still in very good shape, South Texas series 100

      Toyota is your best bet for parts. Cruiser Outfitters will be your best bet for aftermarket parts.
