Just FYI, that's a traditional pattern called "Well and Tree", and the indented pattern indeed was designed to allow the juices of the cooked meat to be captured and reserved (to baste the meat if it should begin to dry out, or for later use).

I think that white dish that was stacked inside of another bowl is a butter dish. If there’s room below the insert, you put your ice there and then your butter goes in the top. A “proper” butter knife would go on the plate below. I always love your videos, but this is gonna be fun! Be safe in your travels.

  • @genevievemurray7743

The silver tray with the design you love has a dual purpose. When the roast meat is being carved the juice runs along the branches and catches in the bowl part of the design. This deliciousness can then be added to the gravy boat for a lip smacking gravy bonus. The Arzberg double bowl could be for putting hot water to keep soup warm or ice to keep cold items like butter or cream from melting in the top dish. Great haul as usual. I love the concept. When you’ve done every Goodwill you might start over again or do all the Habitat for Humailties! Whatever, I’ll be there

As a former decro painter who has left a trail of ducks, geese, apples, strawberries, and, yes, bunnies, with no hint of guilt, if I find a great piece of wood with 1980's "country" decor, I completely strip them. I must send you a huge Thank You. After seeing you use your Hulken bag, I immediately bought one. Today the two of us ventured out on a trail of yard sales. Come January, a quick ribbon color change and my 2 families are still collecting compliments!

It is likely from the 1940s; my Granny used it before she moved in with my Mom after my grandfather passed in 1956, and brought it with her. It was a feature at every Thanksgiving dinner of my childhood--it is a turkey serving platter. The little "bowl" at one end is to hold drippings and the channels are to funnel them to the bowl.

I so very much agree about studio pottery! So overlooked and there's so much gorgeous stuff out there. Even here in Australia I can pick up some amazing pieces for less money than a standard gift shop sells factory pieces, and they add such a 'vibe' to a simple vignette. Also, there was an ammonite wall vase at 15:58 I was shouting at you for, I guess you didn't hear me over the heart eyes you were making for the martini glass 😆 (which btw is a knock-off of iittala kastehelmi)

I have a question... for the lovely but dirty folded/handkerchief vase, do you wash by hand or run it through a light setting in the dishwasher? I usually do by hand, but worry it might slip from my hands.
I love those two trays, i know some aren't happy that you chose to upcycle, but I agree with your choice. These were very dated and needed new life. I suspect you are bringing them back to their natural wood look since you love that natural, organic look (can'twait!). My style is a wee bit different than yours, I would likely paint and decoupage (maybe even distress a bit 😮!). You saved 2 beautiful trays from the landfill, for sure. I love this series. 😊 ~Laura, too...Washington. ❤

I'm glad Jesse's idea is coming to life! I loved all your finds but I absolutely loved the Lunares candlesticks! I have a thrifted dancer figure by the same designer that is one of my favorite pieces in my home. I'm going to watch to see if you bring them to your website.

I think your white bowl set from Germany you would put ice in the bottom part and a dip that needs to be chilled in the part with a top

The wooden piece you got is (I'm almost certain) is made from a cypress knee. It is common tree here at the lake I live near, Caddo Lake. Cypress like out in the water or around the edge. The knees are a part of their root system that stick up around the base of the tree allowing the root to breathe.
    I LOVE your necklace!

LOVE all of today's finds, especially the two large studio pottery bowls and the deer watercolors. Very pretty! I know your trays are going to be beautiful with that lovely wood underneath, but it's a little bit of a travesty to see the painted figures stripped off. They're not your style for sure, but someone took the time to paint those cute figures, especially the bunny. So sad.

Probably not much sadly! I won’t be able to make it to all of the locations this summer if I stop to shop for clothes 😂 It takes up so much time. But if something catches my eye I’ll share it for sure! Our local goodwills send all sterling and high quality jewelry to either the boutique locations or sell online so unfortunately I don’t look at the jewelry counter anymore 😩

Due to technical difficulties with my computer and not being a tech-type gal, my computer crashed. and not having my computer guru, aka my husband, to remedy the situation, due to his passing, I started over a couple times with a new channel name, but rest assured I've been and will continue to enjoy your channel, Laura. : ) You give inspiration to this ol' gal.

The problem with silver plate is that the “ patina” or oxidation could eat right into the base metal, also called corrosion. I like to see if the piece is in good shape by having it polished.
