I just did mine and it is a lot easier to take the passenger torque strut off before raising the engine. I bought the mount off Amazon and the studs that fit through the frame holes were bent and would not fit so I knock them out and used two 3/16 inch nuts and bolts instead. You can raise the engine just enough to twist the motor mount in order to separate the plate from the mount . Then you can remove them one at a time. I felt more comfortable doing it that way for fear of breaking something in the engine compartment.
This may be dumb but im slowly learning my way working on my own car but do i have to torque the engine mounts. Like the torque struts whatever there called or do i just tighten it much as i can by hand
Thanks for the clear and concise video. You mentioned the oil seal replacement video, any idea when that will be? My car has the same oil everywhere on the mount
Probably within the next 60 days. I’m actually going to be doing the job within the week. I’m behind editing videos, but it’s coming for sure. There’s going to be a ton of content on this particular car.
Great video! Thank you. You mentioned a couple of times making a video about replacing the oil seals in this car I couldn’t find that video. Would you please share the link? Thank you.
I actually finished the video, but it’s not fully edited yet. I will indeed share the link when it’s done. I have a LOT of videos coming for this car. I’ve been slammed with some larger work projects (building a new very involved website). As soon as I can get to them, I’ll share the links! 👍
No need to. They are designed to move/flex when the engine moves, plus they were getting replaced either way. If a mount breaks while jacking up the engine, it was either: -Already broken -Almost ready to break -You jacked the engine up too far - Good mounts should be able to take some abuse, but it IS possible to get carried away with lifting the engine...aka if the car is being lifted off of the jack stands, then you've gone too far lol.
@@arapartsthank you,I’m about to just do the engine mount because I didn’t know you should buy the whole set, gonna do em soon tho,I’ll loosen the trans mount so it doesn’t break and the top mounts look fine, still seems sketchy to me to not unbolt the trans mount if your gonna be jacking the engine up a few inches even if there new
I took the torque strut mounts off and now can’t get the mounts back in . There’s like a four inch difference between the mount and where the bolt goes .I’ve tried prybar but can get anywhere near where they should line up . Any help , tips or suggestions?
Grab a jack and large block of wood like I did in this video and you should be able to use it support the engine from the oil pan. Move the jack handle around to reposition the motor and you’ll be able to get it to the desired position.
Only slightly. The 5.3 is laid out the same, and uses the exact same torque strut mount (only 1 for the SS) on the top, but the other mounts are different and the engine is obviously bigger.
@@araparts Oh yes thank you. I only seen the one at the top. I need to change my tensioner pulley and its looking like I need to raise my engine about an inch or two to have more clearance. I might could get away without having to do that but its pretty tight. Would I only have to remove the bottom mount to do that?
This video covered all of the mounts in the 3.5L engine (3.6L is different). There is: •One (1) engine mount •One (1) transmission mount •Four (4) torque strut mounts. These are the ones on top right up front. They are bolted to each other, and may be considered as just two (2)mounts.
@@araparts Oh ok. So, on the 3.5L there is only an engine mount on the passenger side, and not one on the driver side as well? Kinda seems like it would be unbalanced
This ad came on while waiting at the tire shop. Thanks for all the dirty looks. Lol The opening line “People dont believe me when i tell them shes 21!” Had to flip the phone around to show everyone it was a dog ad!!!! Lol.

Awesome and very helpful videos thank you!!
Did you loosen the transmission mount or the 2 top mounts before jacking up the engine?
No need to. They are designed to move/flex when the engine moves, plus they were getting replaced either way. If a mount breaks while jacking up the engine, it was either:
-Already broken
-Almost ready to break

Is it similar for the SS?
Only slightly. The 5.3 is laid out the same, and uses the exact same torque strut mount (only 1 for the SS) on the top, but the other mounts are different and the engine is obviously bigger.

Thought I had an exhaust leak. Now 99% sure it's one of the lower mounts. Looking forward to the oil seal video!
Coming soon!
I see you only changed one engine mount and one transmission mount, is there another engine and transmission mount on the other side?

My cv axle and motor mount were absolutely fucked, the cv has been replaced but, i gotta do the mount on the passenger side
Man I have a 2011 think I have the exact same problems right now!😭
