    3. Study 1 dialect
    4. Speak the target language often

    I am a bilingual and this is seriously amazing! I was born in Italy but, thanks to years of practice, I am extremely fluent in English. Now I am really successfully learning Spanish as well. The good thing about being able to speak many languages is that once you start learning, it is really easy to learn maaaany languages! So keep practicing guys! Luv u so much ❤

    One of the best ways to learn a language is to get into a relationship with someone who speaks that language and have them talk to you all the time . Trust me you'll learn quickly .

  • @liamkeith3712

    It’s funny. I took 5 years of Spanish, and by the time I was done I spoke the language fluently, but I had issues understanding it when I was spoken to. Ive worked construction full time for 2 years, and I’ve been around Hispanic contractors the whole time. Just talking to them and listening I’ve learned more in 2 years than I did in 5 years of classes. Immersion really is the best way to learn a language. Now I speak and understand Spanish with no problems. I have a weird accent because I’ve learned from so many different dialects, but I don’t sound like an American just trying to speak Spanish anymore.

    I immersed myself in Spanish by watching telenovelas everyday. The same show so I could get accustomed to 1 accent until the show ended, then I'd have to get used to another accent. We have a Spanish speaking neighborhood but I was running a daycare and couldn't take other people's children around for selfish reasons. My friends laughed at me and asked if I learned a lot of love words and arguments but I learned a lot of phrases they didn't because telenovelas use language the way people talk to each other in everyday speech. I learned more this way than I learned in 3 & 1/2 years of study. I do want to say that all those years of conjugation were a LOT of help because I conjugated as I spoke without realizing I used the correct conjugation. So I would NEVER criticize that.

    • @nightwing7
      @nightwing7 2 года назад

      Also, if you use captioning you are reading, not listening. I know, I made that mistake and realized it after about a month. I would watch and come up with my own answers to what the characters were saying and see if I got it right. I was surprised that that actually worked. I got it right several times.

    Yes start replacing your (English or native )words with your targeted language. Especially basic words like hi, bye , please, etc. The point is , allow the language to become apart of you, and adopt it as a new lifestyle. That way there is no resistance in becoming fluent.

    Hey Rickie,
    It's nice to see other people who enjoy learning languages as much as I do.
    Thanks for the tips ! Just to add on "immersing yourself in the language", one of the simplest things to do instantly is changing your phone language and all the apps will change as well (Uber, Netflix, Google Play, etc..).
    It's really cool, and I remember the first time I changed it, it was funny coz I got really confused but then I got used to it.
    Thanks again for the tips and continue following your languages passion !
    Best wishes,
    Omar

    Thank you for these. I just started learning a few months ago because I want to expand my horizons and interact more with my local culture (I live in Albuquerque). These are things I'm doing instinctively. I have a book, a software, make my own flashcards, try to read books in Spanish, watch Spanish shows, watch kid's cartoons (Peppa Pig has an official Latin American youtube channel) and read all the local bilingual/Spanish ads. I also learned a lot of the food/cooking terms pretty quickly because I love to cook. It's all about the motivation, and I can now understand about 80% of those cartoons. LOL I recently discovered your channel and it's been super helpful. (A lot of culture stuff also is on the wonderful Buzzfeed's "Pero Like" channel and they have several cultures represented). Thank you for all you do!

I'm Dominican myself checking on how English people would get to learn Spanish and was drawn to your video because of various elements that suggest several aspects of the Dominican scene: the Reggae background beat, your Spanish, I would even dare to say you sort of speak English with the Dominican swagger which is pretty cool to watch. I love the Dominican dialect. That makes sense to learn a dialect. Never thought about that.
    I want to finish learning Spanish. It’s intimidating. I have a good foundation...took Spanish in high school...took two years in college...took some private Spanish classes in my adult years...but I have this “I’m too old” mentality at 36 years old.
    I once heard someone say that the only thing stopping anyone from learning Spanish is motivation.
    I think that immersion is key...and I thought that what you said about “everything else” being in Spanish is key. I know people have dreams of leaving the country...but I’ve NEVER had a desire to go to another country. Like...I don’t want to go...period. So...that was dope how you explained immersion without leaving.
    What was your study game like? Did you sit down and do a Spanish work book daily...or just look up vocab...or just watch a show...like what was your daily routine?

    •  7 лет назад +7

      Àdønįs Cäpøné I never really was a fan of subtitles because I always said that in a real life situation I wouldn't have subtitles. However, heck yes it could help. lol If you can't understand what is being said clearly, then the subtitles will help clear that up for you. I always find subtitles distracting because I feel like I would try to follow the words and miss the action. But hey if it works for you then do it. My way is never the only way. Keep up the good work!

      Rickie Walls Yeah , ive done a lot of writing to , but what are good tips for pronunciation?

    •  7 лет назад +6

      I'm actually doing awhole series on that, but to sum it up, earning the vowel sounds will take you far. The consonants are important too, but a lot of a horrible accent has to do with pronouncing English vowel sounds instead of Spanish ones. there's more that goes into it, but it's too much to write. Stay tuned...

      Gracias amigo! ¿Estás aprendiendo inglés?

    • @carlossolera2998
      @carlossolera2998 7 лет назад +3

      No porque ya hablo ingles, ahora aprendo francés (actual 48%), comencé en enero de este año y espero terminar en dos meses mas. Tienes un excelente acento en español!
      Hace tres años tengo estudiantes de NAU Arizona, que vienen a Costa Rica a aprender español, por periodos de 3,5 meses, 1.5 meses en verano. Seguimos en contacto!

    •  7 лет назад +1

      Oh wow. Como lo aprendes tan rápido? Usas duolingo? Estoy aprendiendo portugues, hebreo, e italiano. hebreo es el más extraño. pero estoy aprendiendo poco a poco

    • @carlossolera2998
      @carlossolera2998 7 лет назад +1

      Empece el 3 de enero 2017 y actualmente tengo racha de 57 dias, comienzo mi dia haciendo 20 a 60 puntos en Duolingo. Me parece que aprender un idioma, necesitas dedicarle al menos 15 minutos al dial. Ya empece a ver programas en frances, pero entiendo poco, espero a fin de año esta en un nivel similar al suyo en español.

    •  7 лет назад +2

      Carlos Solera ah ok. pues suerte amigo. recomiendo que veas algunos videos en RUclips también. Para aprender portugués uso RUclips & duolingo. me gustan los dos.

Pero, cuando leo el español, tengo la palabras de inglés en mi mente al mismo tiempo. Eso es mal para (a beginner?) I guess you can say that I'm translating in my head simultaneously.
