I use Duolingo every day, I volunteer at a local restaurant when I can, in exchange for Spanish conversation, I listen to Spanish music. I think I need to speak in Spanish more. It’s the thing I feel the least confident in.

I am so blessed to have a job where all but about 3 people dont speak English. Even my boss doesnt speak English. Its Mexican spanish. Which I first learned Puerto Rican spanish and words are different. For example Ahorita in Puerto Rico is later. Ahorita in Mexico is imediately. Big difference. 😂

Excel spreadsheets & formulas, although it starts on a scribbled notebook for me. The more i progress, the more i realize that reviewing basics is key. I changed my general phone settings, my car, my apps & recorded my voicemail message in Spanish. I frequently try to write in Spanish on my social media posts. I have done almost 100% of those things you mentioned too & they really do work. Y ahora me encanta escribir, hablar y cantar español.

Mi mejor manera simplemente es hablar. Créeme lo sé que to’lo días cometo errores pero a mi no me importa. Todo el mundo haga eso con el Inglés así que no tengo miedo o vergüenza cuando cometo errores. Por supuesto, la próxima vez me corrijo, pero al menos intenté. Gracias mano por tus consejos como siempre y sigue pa’lante con los videos.

I'm an Spanish speaker trying to speak English. And this is something that's been hard for me to do. Shame is such a big for me, but yeah. Like you said. It's talking. We as babies just started talking to learn.

@@cindyscrawly1672 Some basic advice (hope it helps):
1)Practice speaking about topics that you like to talk about. Basically, talking about anything that gives you energy and topics that you have knowledge. Hobbies are a good start.
Have a native English speaker critique your pronunciation. This is important since English pronunciation is very difficult. You will gain confidence as you improve and English speakers understand you completely.
2)Start thinking in English. When you see an arbol, you will also see a tree.
3)Try to limit translating from Spanish to English. It is an unnecessary step that will slow you down and make you hesitate when speaking in English.
4)Lastly, have two groups of friends to practice with: 1)Bilingual speakers that can speak English very well, yet understand the mistakes you are making as a native Spanish speaker. Spanish speakers tend to make similar errors when speaking English.
2)English only speakers: this forces you to speak only in English and you will have to use only English vocabulary (no Spanglish). People learn faster when they do not have their native language to fall back on.
      Good luck with your studies!

I make it a point to force convo and interaction. I’ll go to the mexican grocery store across town and force interactions with the workers to find products and with the cashiers. And when they answer my Spanish with English I’ll know I said something “wrong” and will figure out what I said incorrect.

The best way for me to learn is multiple repetitions with auditory and visuals. I use quizlet Flash cards on my phone. I also find that being corrected on the spot when making a speaking mistake drives me to remember.

I choose something that interests me for the week and attempt to focus on that. If I begin to become tired of something I change subjects or take a short break. I watch youtube videos, movies and tvshows on netflix, use conjugato (app on phone with like 1000 verbs), listen to pimsleur in the car, use spanishdict (making my own vocab lists for practice) and I use studyspanish.com. OH when I am trying to learn new verbs I conjugate the verb in a way that could be a song and find a song to help me remember the verb :)

I'm sitting here listening to you speak in English. I noticed that you have an hispanic accent when you pronounce some words in English. You said that you are 100% American. So I'm assuming that English is your first language... Did your English accent permanently change as a result of you learning Spanish so fluently?

    •  4 года назад +18

It's was like this before I learned Spanish due to influences around me at a very young age. I'm the only one in my household growing up that speaks like this though.

I'm into both, but when I'm teaching Spanish I talk heavily about Latin Culture.
If I'm teaching English then I will mix in my own culture.
We are all free to like whichever culture we choose. I like both.
Also, you don't have to be a certain way just because of how you look.
