How I play Dark Soouls 3 vs how I play Nioh 2

- Now I don't wanna say either one is better, it's mostly personal preference, and there is more to these games than just combat altough Nioh has a much bigger focus on active combat.
But I found the contrast pretty interesting, Dark Souls encourages a more defensive approach with a Stamina Bar and more committed moves that you can't simply dodge out of.
Nioh takes those mechanics somewhat but restructeres them to encourage aggression more, so the Stamina Bar for example can be managed via active coombat (Flux´, Yokai Abilities, etc.) .
Mastering that lets you be able to keep up your aggression for a loooong time which makes Nioh's combat so satisfying. Игры
As someone who plays dark souls a lot, i don't know what just happened in nioh 2 and it scares me
For me, nioh 1 and 2 are very different compare to dark soul. Focus point of nioh game is combat which this video clearly show the different between nioh and dark soul. First time playing nioh, I use same strategy like playing dark soul and it take a long time to kill boss, but after familiar with nioh combat style, in nioh 2 i kill monster faster with more aggressive combat style.
@@conghoangle8594 I'd honestly love to play and learn the flow of nioh combat but i tried the first one and it felt very odd coming from the (to me) usual R1 / R2 combat to a (to me) button mashing square / triangle combat . I kinda tried other games with similar Combat to nioh (mostly code vein and nier) but after i got to the first yokai and down to the dock i kinda felt exhausted by the first title and very unsure about the second lol . I probably should give the second one a try once the price is more affordable as a person that isn't sure about the value of perhaps trying a game for 1 hour and then never touching it again lol
@@YsoKain I understand you, the fist map of nioh 1 is kinda long with a lot of thing for a new nioh player. Playing nioh is like playing 3rd view fighting game (imagine playing soul calibur / street fighter in 3rd view), you need to play a lot so you can have the muscle memory of the combo. At begining, i only use 1 stance (using spear mid stance), but later i change stance to high and low all the time to make a smooth combo with just the muscle memory.
@@YsoKain well then, Nioh 2 had a controller scheme with R1 light attack and R2 heavy attack just like dark souls
You must absolutely give Nioh a try. It's the only soulslike that is not a clone of Dark Souls and actually has a lot of very good ideas of its own while still having the DNA of Souls.
Niohs have probably my favorite combat system, so fast, so precise, and a good deal of depth.
Nioh 2 is my favorite combat system
and punishing if you lose your flow or timing
I forgot to clean up my inventory... The only annoying part of nioh
I adore inventory management, it's one of my favourite parts. Top game, will be forever underrated because of the Miyazaki simps.
There is a option to not pick up any bad rarity gear
Not the only one.
@@upon-fe2720 No it will not be underrated. This game is made for a small amount of players. The most will play to the 2nd or 3rd area and stop cause its too repetitive and boring.
repetitive and boring? u r kidding right? different variety of enemies with different movesets, and each bosses has up to 7-8 moves without dark realm, and various weapons type u can combo with 3 different stances, (not only dodge and hit for every enemy like souls) u can try play style any time, u can even fantasize anime characters into builds, with different types of elements and skills, u will never get bored trying different things to different enemies, may be u just can't pass first two areas, and give up, and claim it's repetitive and boring, i think it will be boring if u play like souls, dodge and hit and die to every enemy, try learn to combo with 3 stances and cores , u will appreciate how actually great Nioh fighting is
Dark Souls: Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee
Nioh 2: Counter with jab to left cheek, discombobulate
People like comparing these two series and they are really different. You can probably play in any style if you are skilful enough. Otherwise, Dark Souls, play defensively; Nioh, play aggressively.
nioh allow you to devil may cry stylish combo in ng+ and meanwhile dark soul is simplify by dodge and attack only
I think the biggest difference is that Nioh 2 has a way higher skill ceiling. If you want to you can also play with a lot less inputs in Nioh 2 and be kinda fine. For example if you play a magic build. But the potential you have if you master your inputs is crazy. In dark souls you dont really need good mechanics, mostly knowledge of the enemies patterns.
@@chiko7547 And weaknesses :3 gotta love maximizing those damage numbers.
They are "different" in that Nioh takes the base of Souls combat and builds on it. Souls is punishing, but it's definitely not complicated. The combat is simple, you avoid/block enemy attacks and use your limited moveset during openings, while managing a very simple stamina bar. Yes, Souls generally encourages defensive/reactive play, but that's because you have few tools (basically just parrying and poise/stance break) to swing the fight into a position where you get to be the aggressor.
Nioh 2 is much more of a dance than From's Souls output because of the larger kit and utility the player has. Soul Cores/confusion combos introduce loads of opportunities to swing the battle in your favor, and that's before we get into all the moves you have access to within a few button presses with the stance system. Coupled with a stamina system that effectively allows the player to ignore its limitations with enough skill, and you end up with a skill ceiling to rival most character action titles.
That said, where Nioh deepens its combat, Souls has pushed in the direction of better environments and exploration. Most stage design in Nioh is basic, and serves to stay out of the way of combat, where Souls focuses on environments that are improved via their relatively simple enemy encounters.
That pendulum is where comparing the two is most interesting.
@@pixillest3468 yeah… but then sekiro came out and showed that fromsoft can do the more engaged, aggressive combat style too, and they did it better than nioh 1 or 2😂 that’s what makes fromsoft so incredible, in nioh your sacrificing good level design, art direction, storytelling, etc for that dope ass combat, but in sekiro you can have your cane and eat it too
World building Dark Souls but combat wise Nioh for me, I hope they make part 3 in the future
Same. Wo Long was also fun since it was like a mix of Nioh w/ Sekiro deflects but they simplified it a bit too much
I doubt they will. The word nioh (or sometimes nio) means "benevolent king" or guardian and is often used to refer to the statues guarding the gates of Japanese shrines etc. These guardian statues are always pairs, one each side of the path. So in William and Hide we have our pair of guardians.
And the story based on the three great unifiers of Japan (Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi abd Tokugawa Ieyasu) is complete in the two games.
So I'd be surprised if they did a third game.
Very pleasantly surprised, 'cause they're two of my all time favourite games and I'd absolutely love to have more! 😃👍
@@reznik232 They will definitely make a new Nioh. It's like a golden goose for them, for sure. It will be crazy to abandon that combat system that is close to perfection. I was about to buy Wo Long day one then i played the demo and changed my mind, because it reminded me of Sekiro, an awful game, IMO. Obviously Wo long combat system is much inferior to Nioh. Also they put in charge of Wo Long a dude that worked on Sekiro, no wonder the mess.
@@jeccentric9952 Sekiro is got GOTY and is beloved by almost every person who plays it. Its actually just peak to alot of people, and for good reason. One of the most rich and well crafted stories out there with some of the best well crafted gameplay.
the question at hand is how do you improve such a perfect game? I guess having the option to choose what drops and what doesnt would be nice
It hurts my brain and soul whenever I see videos from "Soulsborne veteran" playing Nioh exactly as they play any soulsgames. Never stance switching. no ki pulsing. Only light attack and fat rolling. And they leave bad reviews to this game as a result. You can clearly tell lots of negative reviews on steam pages and other platforms are from stubborn soulsborne players who refuse to learn to play different games
This is incredibly true and then you'll get the usual suspects then saying it has poor level design and bad "lore" and is overtuned or has too many mechanics. then act like it's inferior. When Nioh and especially Nioh 2 are completely different to From Software games. Problem is Niohs are done somewhat of an injustice by calling them "Souls" games in the first place. They may have a stamina bar, but they play very differently than any of these types of games.
Nothing wrong with a little variety. But seems FS fans don't want that and just want to keep their series on top.
"I forgot to clean out my inventory" its my mantra >.
Nioh, Nioh 2 are the one of the best games ever. My 2000 h in Nioh and same in Nioh 2 says about it
Nicely done and 100% correct, souls combat joy comes mostly from mastering the bosses or simply beating them, but thr combat itself is simple, dodge and attack in the small window given.
While nioh (played only 2 personally but adored it) have the input, the customization, the constant parries midfight (unlike souls parries which mostly consist of waiting around till they do the attack the player knows how to parry which doesn't feel flowable at all), and the overall feeling that you mastered the weapon and the game both (which is way limited in souls).
If elden had nioh or sekiro's combat it'd be an absolute banger but alas.
Oh one more thing tho bout nioh 2, endgame wise once you farm the right gear with the right stats (yes it'll take a while but still doable) your combos reach the potential of melting bosses and mobs alike, even on higher NG+ cycles (dream of the nioh) but still I'd say it comes as a welcomed reward for mainting and keeping on playing the game and mastering it.
Look out for the devs new upcoming game, and good luck with the day.
The Chad Nioh combat
Nioh is developed by the *Ninja Gaiden* devs.
They certainly know how to design an interesting combat.
Elden Ring IS a banger, better than Nioh 2.
Wo Long is not that far away, my friend...
@@GORO911 If only they knew how to design interesting loot too, game would've been perfect.
As a veteran in both, I agree.

Step 1, Discombobulate…
my brain can't handle nioh's combo, it's like fighting game level of complexity
Both beautofull games that ive loved a lot!!
Nioh is one of these games never manages to bore me
The game still going on strong at least for me lmao
Another thing I'd like to add about Nioh 2 from my experience: The ranged weapons are both handled better and more satisfying to use in that game. Popping someone at range with a headshot and watching their orbs burst from their body, they knew how to make that shit feel GOOD.
My breakthrough moment in playing Nioh 2 was realizing, rather than precise timed dodges, you could simply move away from the enemy's attacks and run in the instant they finish. 300+ hours later and I'm having a blast.
good thing you already took care of the skeleton marksman there beforehand 😜👍
DS and Bloodborne are very good game..but i prefer to Nioh series..
I like the fighting in Nioh 2 it can be good but it’s also a very unfair game and the controls aren’t as tight. But soulsborne has much better stories, environments, enemies etc. But nioh has much flashier combat but is overly complex. I like both though but Nioh has felt more unfair in its combat.
@@jamesleon4883 ok i get it..but that combat mechanism ini nioh makes me want to play it more and more..for me nioh is best among those three..but ds and bloodborne is very good game no doubt about it
@@eefview maybe you should play hack and slash games cause nioh is closer to that than souls combat. Its hardly comparable really. If you want souls combat at its best than go play Sekiro.

Man knows his nioh
Never played Dark Souls and the like, other than Sekiro and-dating myself here-Tenchu. I beat Nioh and loved it. Now I am indulging in Nioh 2, which is an improvement all around.
Soulsborne games are about survival and triumph over horrific odds. Though the overall tones of each game are basically that of Nihilism. Even if you win, you only manage to prolong the end of the world at best. You are never supposed to feel over powered, but just powerful enough to survive a brutal battle. Much like the themes from Berserk which they were based off of. Everything is meaningless. Even your survival.
Nioh games are about choosing your own path of mastery and constantly finding ways of improving on it. Nioh basically follows the Japanese concept of Kaizen, or constant improvement. There is always a piece of gear that can be better synergized through bonuses. There is always another technique you can slip in and get away with. There is always another Jutsu that can work in some way you didnt know.
I tend to prefer Nioh because the idea of constant improvement and mastery is a much more optimistic world/life view than that of Nihilism/doom.
Im always a big souls fan so this vid really interested/amazed me how people play Nioh(sorry if I use wrong word)
say if I really wanna give Nioh a try, is that game beginner/casual friendly? if its a yes should I try 1 first or just go for 2?
nioh and nioh 2 are much harder games than any souls game and even harder than sekiro. When playing nioh think as if you are playing a fighting game and not a souls because nioh is not a souls. You can start nioh from 1 or 2, they work like independent games, but the most correct thing would be to start from 1, 2 goes before 1 and ends after 1
Yo someone deleted my comments. So I'll try again. I'm a huge soulslike vet, Ive got all the Platinum trophy for ds1-2-3, bloodborne, demon, sekiro, elden, nioh1-2, and nioh 1-2 are absolutely not harder than dark souls 3 or bloodborne (or malenia).
The main differences between Dark Souls and Nioh is that in Nioh the combat system is so big that you can break the game with overpowered build, while in dark souls you are limited and you need to git gud to win (without summons).
Consider this, the enemy in this clip is the last non-boss yokai you met, so it's considered to be tough, and by the colors of the drops he got, he is playing in Ng+++ (called Dream of the wise), and from Ng++ the game starts being reeeeally hard.
So, as you can see, the guy in the clip just buffs himself and smash the sh*t out of him without the needs to Dodge or defend himself. That's because he is using a lot of the mechanics, you don't need all of them to being a killermachine.
Edit: btw try nioh, it's really good if you like dark souls
2 has a much better combat system, but both 1 and 2 are good.
Bloodborne and Dark souls 3 are easily the easiest games, Dark souls 3 was meant to be a beginner friendly soul game, and gave you much more of a easier time understanding things, Bloodborne is so damn easy, all you do is just spam hit enemies and occasionally dodge around them, chalice dungeons like cummmfpk make it a joke. Nioh 1 and 2 are much harder, enemies are insanely fast compared to souls bosses and can end you in less than 2 hits. The mission progression doesn’t let you get overpowered and then come back. The combat is much harder to grasp, with the 3 stances, the counters, how to apply magic and ninjutsu, and not to mention the ungodly amount of HP of any Nioh 2 bosses.
Try Nioh 2! Very good game but much harder than any souls game
nice video
:)
I really think that Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 having decent action gameplay may have just been an accident, based on how ridiculously slow 95% of the original games' enemies are.
All the way back to King's Field on the PS1, these games have really been more about the world-building and exploration and all that cool immersive stuff. Their "combat" just boils to getting out of the way of slow attacks, and then attacking with your own slow attacks at the right time, but then Demon's Souls gave you the ability to i-frame roll through stuff, so I believe later games started banking on that mechanic, and now we have this awkward, constant dodge rolling in the later games where you just press R1 once or twice after a specific combo ends to do damage, and then repeat. And sometimes, enemies just awkwardly delay their attacks simply to catch spam rolls, like an incredibly awkward way to spice up combat.
Nioh 2 on the other hand is pure high speed combat gameplay.
Enemies generally attack pretty fast so you have to dodge and attack fast yourself.
Billions of different kinds of combos to use against enemies that you yourself can come up with, and they don't even have to be as complicated as the video shows here, especially on a first playthrough.
An overwhelming amount of controls and mechanics, half of which you probably won't even use, however you get rewarded heavily the more you learn and make use of them.
These days, anytime I re-play a Souls game, I usually go brain dead when I enter combat because I already know how every enemy attacks, and responding to them is so simplistic that I just let muscle memory do the work. I only really go back to explore the worlds again.
The Nioh games however are too fast for me to shut my brain off during fights, they're just too engaging.
Nioh 2 is the hardest shit Ive played period. Its hella cool but holy fuck, I have to put it down constantly. Never has a game done this to me.
Have you played dark souls or sekiro

I really wanted to get into and love dark souls. But I couldn't. I hate it.
I didn't expect to like nioh but clear tutorials, fast paced and deep combat, smooth frame rate and existence of a story made me like it enough to platinum it.
Nioh 2 to me is 10/10 best game ever
Just Platinum Nioh 2, and I gotta say, I personally love the Soulsborne games for almost every aspect of it, I love many many aspects of Nioh too, but sometimes Nioh feels a bit inaccessible to me, not to say it's a bad game because I just platinum it, obviously I loved it. In Souls we often focus on the enemies, learn their attacks, and learn when to attack, we don't (necessarily) need to focus on ourselves much in those games, like what build we use, or what weapon we use, it's almost doesn't matter. What we need to focus on is the enemy. Once we master the enemy, we win. In nioh aside from focusing on the enemies, we also need to focus on ourselves, what stats we use, build, weapons, yokai, etc. In Nioh it's almost impossible to beat a boss without focusing on our build and stats, I just can't do it. You can't win Nioh by simply dodging a boss attack, and methodically attacking when there is a chance, you need to use the stats. This is why there are many custom stats mechanics in the game, like temper, soul match, etc. I just don't have the time and the commitment to learn all the stats mechanics in Nioh.
That being said, I beat it regardless and I love it. Really looking forward to Rise of the Ronin. Like FromSoftware, Team Ninja now become one of my favorite game developers ever.
The thing is, there's just way too much mechanic in Nioh games that is just hard for anyone to figure out alone. If you platinum a Souls game, you're probably master 90% or more of the game; But if you platinum Nioh, you probably still don't know much about the game.
Tonfas all the way

It’s actually because they performed a successful burst counter 👍

Nioh series is so good
Well, the OG souls game does have wide weapon variety and buils in DS2 and ER, Powerstancing chicken drumsticks in DS2 feels good man. Other than that, i agree, both are a really good game.
Honestly I’m kinda on the fence about powerstancing, I think I actually preferred how they did it in DS3. Now hear me out, I enjoy the build variety that powerstancing gives you but it also creates a situation with most weapons where powerstancing is clearly superiors to having a single weapon. Why use one golden halberd when you can use two and one shot them? The biggest casualty is straight swords, I miss seeing the classic straight sword and shield build from DS3. Now everybody duel wields.
DS3 had unique weapons that were dual wielded and they felt more balanced as a result. Just my personal preference though.
@@carsonnesbit1178 i respect your opinion. But in my experiences, powerstancing huge weapons isn't really viable for the some case for example, fighting the DLC bosses and the throne watcher or other multi-bosses encounter. I got myself ended up getting killed so many times due to fat roll and how slow the attack was when powerstancing and then i just decided to use my god ol' Greatsword and a big shield.
The only thing about Nioh which I dislike is the weird ass colors. It Look janky but only in the first game (which I definately love)
On first Nioh 2 playthrough it feels so punishing to play extremely aggro like I want. idk how people in these vids have like infinite ki
Low equipment weight(agility A) has enhanced ki regeneration and less ki consumption. Also Flux II (requires changing stance 2 times during ki-pulse) grants lots of ki.
Yokai Ability is also a good option, since you start regenerating your ki during the animation
Too funny about inventory full!
Wish you could disable hud
Nioh 2 is when you want a more in depth combat system. Dark souls if you want to memorize attack patterns, roll to dodge, then swing 2-3x until someone dies.

well you could do them differently, specially in souls with parries and whatnot. ringed knights are notoriously easy to parry for example.
But then again, i don't think this is an good example, nioh 2 ng+ makes enemies much more tanky than in souls games, plus it has a lot of rpg features.
parry is more risk than reward in ds3

While I'm always appreciative of games with a high skill ceiling and players who can push themselves to high levels is impressive. I literally could not follow what was happening on the screen in the nioh clip lol
So many particle effects and flashing lights/colors that I couldn't even say that looked like a cool combo or whatever. Probably harder for me to understand what my eyes are seeing since I'm unfamiliar with the game and its combat system...but for me it was just sensory overload
It wasn't anything hard to understand if you played the game before. I'm not ragging on DS or anything but, a complete new player can look at the DS gameplay and see what's happening because it's slower paced. It's easier to grasp because there's only a few inputs you can make. DS is basically just dodging and auto attacking, maybe throw magic in if you use it with your character.
Nioh 2 isn't that complicated once you spend some time playing it. I could tell what was happening bc I've played the game. You'd be able to as well. Nioh 2 has far more satisfying combat than DS imo because of the sheer variety and the reward of learning how to fight better as you play.
best part is, that's the tip of the ice berg
OP is using a Set Item effect that would increase the damage depending on how many different skills that you have used. You can totally play a similar gameplay OP showed on his DS3 clip in Nioh 2. I'm using Axe in Nioh 2 and I'm just spamming heavy attacks over and over until the enemy is dead. The beauty of Nioh 2 is that you can play different styles even at the endgame content.
You can remove in settings those numbers that show the amount of damage. They actually ruin the game and make it look more arcade. Also Nioh has skills or better said martial arts. Every weapon and every stance has lots of unique skills, some are very fast. Add to those the magic and ninjutsu skills and items. Of course, when you start, all skills are locked, so you just play like in From Software games.
How the hell did this get 40k views, I don't even play Nioh 2 anymore.
I played Nioh 1 made it to the electric spear boss and he has an attack that just 1 shots you without any time to dodge I personally like it when its fair, I might complete later.
You could try blocking
You either need better armour or you’re under levelled. The Nioh games has always been painful but its not THAT painful at lower difficulties. The only few bosses that kick my shit in was the Lightning Dog/ Lion.
Put a few points into Magic and use Sloth Talismans. They are very overpowered. Eventually you'll get sick of using them but that should get you over the hump. In general, Nioh requires a lot more practice than Dark Souls. Many attacks that I once thought were unavoidable are now easy to dodge. It just takes time but it's very rewarding.

Nioh is essentially DMC + Sekiro, souls-ified.
My God, this video really highlights how fucking damage-spongey the average mid-to-large enemy is in Nioh 2.
How? He killed him immediately... This game is anti-damage sponge, it only feels spongey if you're doing it wrong. Nioh is incredibly complex in all it's systems, multiple times more complex than any Miyazaki game and I include Armored Core in that, not to mention the pace which is probably twice as fast as Demons Souls, once you master (or get competent) at everything both mechanically and theoretically there won't be a single enemy that feels spongey. That's actually the last thing that's ever on my mind, the real challenge is telegraphing larger enemies, there is borderline no telegraph time the further you go in. It is far harder and more technical than Miyazaki games, they're just a lot less endearing when it comes to art style and lore. As an actual action RPG I think both Nioh 1 and 2 are the king's. I cannot wait for Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, they seem to have upped it another gear further and following that Team Ninja are also releasing their first ever fully open world RPG title, Rise of the Ronin. Both of them are on the top of my list.
You've been mislead about the sponginess, I hate spongey enemies. As a child I played the original FF12, the main superboss of the game took me 3 days to kill, you could even save game and come back to the fight without the enemies health going back up. I now hate spongey enemies with a passion. I wouldn't touch this game with a barge pole if it were the case. No enemy or boss has ever taken me more than 3-5 minutes to kill across both games. It's all about preparation, you can't play the game with one loadout like you can with Elden Ring, it is far too difficult for that.
Back to my point, it highlights the exact opposite. I don't know what damage spongey enemy dies in 30 seconds. Maybe it's purely because the health bar looks small so you can't see it chunking quickly... I'm perplexed either way.
Sounds like someone dont know how to build properly
@@upon-fe2720 They had to do 50 million moves and combos to take down the damn thing.
@@upon-fe2720 That's a long comment to say that you farmed gear.
It's important to note that this is on the higher difficulty of the game and he's using a weapon that's built more for stamina depletion than for pure damage. Not to mention the combat flow in Nioh is a different beast entirely. Sure it took more hits to kill that enemy but the length of the encounters aren't that far apart.
Nioh 2 is a masterpiece. Until I meet the depths this it's like ya no thanks. But the game is amazing

It's janky, bad hitboxes, input drops and bad input buffers across the entire franchise that have NEVER been fixed so it's gotta be actually intentional (which is bad design and extremely stupid, much like how they dodge the cast and not the spell when you use magic), and now with Elden Ring, the enemies are totally unbalanced with aoe spam, input reading (i.e CHEATING), hyper range, perfect tracking, long never-ending combos specifically designed AND animated to hit you when they intentionally trigger your reaction to roll. That's all on top of the stupidly high damage. It's so poorly designed compared to contemporaries and even previous entries in the franchise. Elden Ring is the only game where high vigor is essentially mandatory and that was fucking unprecedented.
Nioh, will always be better. It's combat is centered around the player and your skill to beat it. Elden Ring is centered on the enemies and the narrow windows when they allow you to hit them.
Yup, artificial difficulty is so blatantly obvious in FromSoft games compared to Nioh or Ninja Gaiden
This guys is wearing the poop pants. Look at the fallen knight trouser description
It's a common fact, Nioh 2 has the best souls gameplay.
Omg the fucking inventory... Every time I think about returning to Nioh I remember this inventory full of crap and after that just casually launch DS3 and enjoy life
Yeah, if I had to point towards my least favourite thing about Nioh , it's the Inventory and Loot RNG which can get really annoying in later new Game Cycles, though they also added a lot of things which makes Inventory management a lot easier.
Team Ninja wants to cut down on the Loot management in Wo Long, so I'm looking forward to that.
@@MrEinFan I’m so sad I missed that wo long demo. I didn’t know what it was a thought I would check it out at a later time.
@@MrEinFan Good to know they will address the inventory management issue. It's my main gripe as well. Very much looking forward to Wo Long. Day one purchase for sure.
I like both games and enjoy both, but Nioh 2 is amazing tbh, and the combat is better than souls.
I played Demon's Souls and Bloodborne and I didn't like them, I can't stand the silent protagonist trope, It destroys the immersion for me, not to mention those games are difficult because you have to grind for hours, doing the same thing over and over again in a loop, to make the character playable, when It should be difficult because combat requires a lot of skill and that's not the case, your character who is a professional warrior of some kind has stamina of an 80 years old grandma, 4 swings with a weapon and you can barely walk, It's ridiculous.
Nioh on the other hand, love It, It has story, main character capable of speech and awesome gameplay with reasonable amount of grind, so It doesn't feel like a second job.
The first two souls games I mentioned simply bored me, I defeated a few bosses but soon enough I just didn't care to progress and forgot about them.
so basically slow and steady vs fast pace
Sort of. More like overly complicated versus simple. But Nioh is good in its own crazy way. Souls is like dating a gorgeous and stable women and Nioh is like dating a gorgeous and wild woman.
For me Is simple and reasoned vs chaotic(for a nocive) and complex
I liked Nioh a lot, the only two issues I had with that game was first, dying to environment in a bossfight due to camera/controlls, not fun at all, and second, how they slap one boss on top of each other or on top of 3 waves of enemies or on top of both of that, makes little sence to me and is kinda annoying. Oh, and the way like status effects make it a totally different, easy game, compared to one you play without it so it's like damned if you do, damned if you don't situtation. Like if I imagine my favourite DS fights like Sir Alonned or Malenia have a cheese strat where I can just slow them down by 20% or something and make those fights absolutely trivial... Stupid to use it, Stupid if I don't, kills the fun.
But now seeing your video, I am thinking to re-play Nioh 2, as I haven't finished it when I played, got bored too fast.
I haven't played Nioh but this seems like an apples to oranges comparison Souls games focus alot more on animations while this seems more focused on combos and things like that. One isn't inherently better than the other they are simply different, tho I'd bet I prefer Souls style combat.
*Nioh 1 gameplay*
Human enemies: Kusarigama cheese
Non-human enemies and most bosses: run in, attack, dodge out in low stance
Namahage and Magatsu Warrior: RUN FOR YOUR LIFE
Masamune Date and Sanada Yukimura: die
I recently start Nioh 1 because it was free on epic store. Let me say this... I was 0
not even a boss, just a normal enemy, and they need all of that??
To be fair, he is using the Tonfa wich is THE combo weapon of the game
This is NG+ so enemies are going to have more health and ki. That enemy isn’t in that location and they’re also not too challenging to defeat in the first difficulty.
judging from the enemies appearance, it should be came from dream of nioh difficulties (equal to NG+7 or max NG+ in souls)
I feel like they're opposites in a way Souls is slower paced. Whereas Nioh is heavy aggressive action.
yes nioh is heavy aggressive combat u can put enemy in pressure and they cant even fight back if u keep break their stamina
Late game and depending what weapon you use you can be aggressive in Nioh. But learning that can be a pain in the ass. Souls is like going to a restaurant and knowing exactly what the dish will be. Nioh is going to a restaurant and knowing you will get food but there’s a chance the waiter will throw the food in your face.
But the enemy and bosses going heavy aggressive on my ass.
It's not just the speed. You actually interact with the ennemies beyond rolling and poking. I also think positioning and strafing are much more useable in this game, which is a big plus for combat depht. And the dodge being more like quickstep than a slow ds roll also helps in that regard.
Nioh's combat is more similar to Ninja Gaiden or DMC than Dark Souls.
watching the comment section makes me want to play nioh more, it triggers the DS fanboys xD
I wouldn't say Nioh is harder, just more technical, like, waaay more technical
And thats why Nioh is better
This proves:
1. Not all Souls-like are the same
2. Design philosophy matters, good design encourages players to play the fun/intended way
yep seems legit, and somehow i can beat nioh with a smile on my face but smash my controller playing dark souls..
Hate feeling like im 600 pounds.
Now compare DMC 5 vs GOW RAGNAROK XD
Souls games are not about combat are abour discovery and exploration.
nioh still harder on your first play through. the builds are hard to put together unless you’re watching yt tutorial
i perfer comapre it to sekiro, both of them are swag tho i kinda prefer sekiro
It is the same, but faster and flashy. Sure, there are more moves in Nioh but conceptually you are doing same things, wait for openings and attack.
It’s really not.
Souls simplicity is what makes it a great game and fair on all levels
Nioh is great when you have 100 hours to get good at a game.
takes a few hours, sucks to be you I guess
Dark soulzzzz
Typical tonfa user, swinging his stick all day...
i used tonfa and hands
Sekiro might be a nice middle ground for souls fans wanting a more engaging combat system
Clearly nioh 2 has a more in depth combat system witch leads to a more interesting experience having played ds3, elden ring and nioh, nioh 2 but overall they all deliver a very satisfying game play.
Satisfying in their own way, but purely from a combat standpoint nioh offer more variety and a wider range of playstyles. Loved elden ring, but after beating ng+5 with close to every build type the combat becomes more or less mind numbing. If you could fuse elden ring open world and exploration with niohs Indepth build mechanics and combat itd be the greatest game of all creation
@@nanashiryuu5630 on the right path for that I agree can't wait for wo long fallen dynasty! Open world's nioh feel haha you can jump march 2023!
@@kurejiakuma same I can't wait for wo long. Team ninja kils it with their combat. Hopefully it's a banger
I dont see the difference you yourself did more things in Nioh but you could have just attacked and dodged and still killed him
the only real difference is that in dark souls you can tell what is going on, in nioh it is just a screen explosion epilepsy warning. its a generational thing
My problem with nioh's combat was always the same, even in depths . Once i start rolling , i dont stop . It might be more inputs , but that enemy is a dummy for a minute while i obliterate him . Dark souls is more methodical , nioh is more about how well can you press buttons in certain order. I still prefer both sekiro and bloodborne over the rest of the souls and nioh , but id rate nioh above ds's and er.
The problem with DMC and Nioh style combat is that you are not in a danger when you are beating up an enemy like a dummy. In Souls you are in a danger every time you dodge.
That’s because you’re skilled enough to the point where you’ve actually touched the depths which can’t be accessed until DotN (NG+ 4) lmao. Most people can’t even handle Dream of the Samurai. Skilled players, veterans, try hards, and masochists of the souls community can do the same exact bs for enemies in those games (hitting every parry there is to make against enemies, obliterating enemies with perfectly executed attacks and cheesy spells, constantly backstabbing enemies, applying so many buffs that make you look like super Mario using a super star, hardly being hit and knowing every single I-frame to abuse for every enemy, etc)…the souls games become dumb once you understand frames and memorize enemy behavior like the back of your hand. Nioh feels easier once you have truly mastered the combat for every single enemy to the point where you can pulverize them like nothing and they can’t do *anything* to you.
Ki is always my problem in nioh.
ki pulse is the key, is tecnically waiting only like 0.3 sec or less to press R1 and get ki back , so is like unlimited ki, leveling stats that incresase ki pulse help alot plus scake with faster weapon, long story short, u can have like unlimited ki with light weapons (dual swords, claws/gauntlet / tonfa and maybe kusarigama)
@@mirage548 I don't use light weapon. I main odachi for almost the entire game.
@@martk647 u still can be fast with heavy wepons but u need gear with more +++ stuff that give u speed and ki pulse
I wanted to try Nioh until I saw this type of gameplay. You can barely see what the character is doing.
This is the higher level of Nioh gameplay from someone who has NG+ several times, starting out in NG your combat will look like a similar pace as Sekiro gameplay but with more complexity in weapons, tools and combos.
nioh is better
I HATE Nioh’s loot system and visually it just becomes a mess dying some fights. Like in this video you can barely tell what’s happening. The combat is definitely more complex and I really enjoyed that but I’m not a fan of the game as a package. I’m very torn on it
