I remember reading about the secret subhoods on the Sims wiki as a kid and being so curious about them, but also thinking I was really weird for obsessing over that. And now I'm finding that other people were curious about them too and have even carried out the experiments I used to imagine doing? 10 year old me is ecstatic.
I only realised they were actually subhoods a month or two ago lol. I always wondered why it would always load a bunch of things when starting a neighbourhood but now that makes sense.

Ah maybe. I guess they're only visible to Sims with a high enough interest. I still wonder where the lots are located though since they're visiting the lot somewhere. Since you can see the neighbourhood decorations like the bones though I guess they probably are there but just completely invisible. I noticed in SimPE that the hobby lots have a special lot type called hobbyhidden, so if you change that they would possibly become visible.
Cant be coincidence today I found your video :O ...Iam working on my own customized neighborhood and these secret hoods are no exeptions. I just do the usual, changing them from subhood to downtown (temporally) then I decorate and edit a few things and back to subhoods. The results so far are great! My magic world looks more magic and attractive than ever. I hope when I finish my work I can share with everyone :)
I can confirm that the lots can be edited and still function correctly. I gave them more stories and appropriate features, ie a fully fledge kitchen, bathrooms and guest suites for visiting witches and warlocks. i remember with the discs that I'd end up with 5 copies of families and 10 copies or so of each lots.
7:55 I actually kind of wish Sims 2 got a magic expansion, like Sims 1 Makin Magic. Also, thank you for making these videos. I’ve always been interested in stuff like this. 😊
Oh yeah that would have been really cool, the magic stuff in The Sims 2 was more of a side feature since there weren't any packs that were purely for Occult Sims for The Sims 2.

You can change lot type in game, for that you go to the lot and type "changelotzoning residential" to move sim in or "changelotzoning community". After you type the code you go out to the screen of your city to se the change. I am curios if witch spawns after you turn lot to residential ahahahha
Oh yeah I did know about that cheat I think I used that a long time ago to edit some apartments, but I always forget the exact wording. I think if I did that and the witches were already there they'd probably just stay there are re-entering but be classed as visitors that you can ask to leave, I don't think they'd come back to a residential lot though. I did the reverse using SimPE in another video making a residential lot a community lot but forgot I still had a Sim moved in, and they stayed living there lol even though their house was now a community lot.
I feel your pain, I was going to buy The Sim 2 on the Mac store until I found out I wouldn't be getting the full set of expansions. I really loved Mansion and Garden Stuff and Free Time and it wouldn't be the same without them :(

Another thing I noticed (I'm in 19:33 rn so I don't know if you say this in the video or not yet) is that for those template if you look to the top left you can see the back arrow, which is shown in subhoods only to let you go back in the main hood's map, but you made those template to be used as a main, so that arrow shouldn't be there at all. What happens if you click there?
Ah I actually didn't think to try that but that is interesting 🤔 I'm guessing the most likely outcome would be the game crashes because it doesn't know what hood to go back to or maybe nothing would happen and you just stay in the subhood. all those hoods disappeared after being loaded once so they're not functioning properly as main hoods but maybe I'll try copying them over again sometime to see what happens when you try that lol.
I'm not much of a builder but I might give it a go in The Sims 4 later. I thought someone must have done this already because there are so many 2 to 4 build recreations, but I can't find anything on the gallery. That might be because the title is too many characters though lol.
@@CalipersandTongs Well, you could shorten the title. I only play The Sims 3, however. The art style and gameplay are way better, especially if you have all expansion & stuff packs and Store content like me. And maybe you could at least post screenshots of all floors of both castles, so everyone try to re-create them, since we didn't get to see them entirely in the video.
As far as I know just the neighbourhoods. I've been avoiding things that I know cause game corruption though it's still a possibility. I'm not entirely sure how to know if the game is corrupted vs neighbourhood other than weird anecdotes I've come across like in some people's games objects start acting like Sims so you'll have objects walking by the house or Sims will fall in love etc with objects, that would definitely be a sign of game corruption but I haven't seen that yet.

I think the reason that the lots are only visible for the sim and not in the neighborhood view could be a flag attached to the Sim's profile.

30:25 The house is there, but is also not there...so you're basically Quantum mechanics in the sims 2, I love it!!

The lots on top of lots thing is how apartments work I think; so each family lives on a copy of the main apartment lot.

I feel your pain, I was going to buy The Sim 2 on the Mac store until I found out I wouldn't be getting the full set of expansions. I really loved Mansion and Garden Stuff and Free Time and it wouldn't be the same without them :(

I recommend using bootcamp if you have the space to make windows work on your computer. Then download all the sims games from sims2help on reddit.
