      @@CichlidCharmer Hi. Do you think it’s absolutely necessary to have a wave maker in the tank with Peacocks? I’m using a small one in my 66gal 42” tank. But it really seems to move the water and gets the water dusty.

    • @CichlidCharmer
      @CichlidCharmer  Год назад +1

      @@brett_Thorpe I really think mine helps with aggression plus it moves the detritus to the intake. Maybe something smaller like this: Uniclife Aquarium 1058 GPH Adjustable Wave Maker with Controller and Magnetic Mount Submersible Quiet Circulation Pump for 30-60 Gallon Fish Tank Bucket and Small Pond a.co/d/cKgVHTK. I love this brand, and I turn them off at night. You could always turn them on for a few hours here and there with a timer, too.

    • @brett_Thorpe

      @@CichlidCharmer Thanks. I will look that brand up. I’m using a small sicce 2000 nano. Just seems to be always making water dust. Plus the boys are always spitting substrate up. My other 2 tanks are crystal clear. But no wave maker and they are community aquariums. Guess I’ll just have to get use to these big boys. I’ve only had them a couple weeks. But I’m sure liking them!!! Thanks again for helping out. I am also upgrading to a FX2, from a 407. That I am sure will help a lot in filtering the water quicker and better for the boys too.

    Man i haven't seen more beautiful tanks than yours... they are gorgeous.. i am switching from my glass 6ft tank to acrylic 6ft, i heard it will always get scratches no matter how you're cleaning it. But i looked at your aquariums very thoroughly and couldn't find a single scratch.
    Can you please do a video on how to maintain acrylic aquariums without scratching or damaging them ?

      Thank you, and that sounds like a good suggestion! Let me know when you get your tank. If I don’t have a video out yet, I will make sure I give you the info I have learned. And by the way, there are micro scratches and a few large ones on the 240 because I made a few mistakes - some because I couldn’t find info when searching for how to avoid scratches on acrylic, and also because I found incorrect or incomplete info on it.

    Amazing setup , question what back ground you use for the 220gallon to make the intakes of the pumps be a bit out of the eyesight

    • @CichlidCharmer
      @CichlidCharmer  11 месяцев назад

      I just applied some dark window tint. If you do that, make sure you use a LOT of soapy water when applying. I didn't use enough on this one and didn't notice little lines until AFTER the tank was full. Oh well I suppose. I applied a new background to my smaller tank, and it looks wonderful. Used the right amount of soapy water! There are also some rubbery attachments for the intake and outputs on fluval canisters. They turn whitish after some time, so I try to remember to brush them off to make them black again. Thanks for asking!

    • @CichlidCharmer
      @CichlidCharmer  2 года назад

      Thank you for the compliment!
      Your fish could be flashing due to a few different reasons. Check your water parameters and temp first, and do what you need to do if they are off. Next dip a finger in the tank and if you feel a tingle or zap, then your electrical equipment is faulty and producing a low voltage electrical current in the tank. If you have a voltmeter you can check it that way. It could also be external parasites. I hope you get it corrected and your fish are okay!

    Love the setup 🔥 Had a question about canister filters. I see you have plenty of them and was wondering if you experienced any leaks with any. If you have, what was the cause of the leak? Also how often if more than once and do you have any tips to avoid leaks in the first place. Thanks

    • @CichlidCharmer
      @CichlidCharmer  Год назад

      I will have a video on that soon. So I have only had some water spill accidentally during a water change. You need to inspect the O rings once or twice a year and replace if worn, and lubricate with food safe lubricant yearly. The bad thing is that if the canister leaks, it will drain the tank up to the head of the intake.

    • @shellysmith1037
      @shellysmith1037 Год назад +1

      fwiw...I had 4 cannisters (40G to 75G tanks) and never had a leak. A drip pan is nice though when you disconnect the filter to clean it. You get a few drips off the hoses....

      @@bigrayray74 I ended up getting a canister shortly after I commented originally and I love it. No issues and love the high capacity. I have no space for a tray or anything unfortunately so it just sits under the stand. I’ll keep the orings good and replace when needed and hopefully that will keep things dry. I have to be extra careful since my tank is on the second floor. Luckily tho, I do have renters insurance that covers water damage to the house due to tank problems. Hopefully never have to use it but it’s there just in case 😅
