NEW 125 GALLON TANK Complete Setup How Far UNDER $1,500?
I’m the opposite I will not risk hundreds of gallons of water on the ground lol acrylic for life for me use a microfiber cloth to wipe the inside of tank with won’t scratch oh wow your in Washington 👍 Lakewood here
Aw Hi Zeke the man, OK, now how in the world can a person pick which tank they like the best, I love them both! I have had both acrylic and glass tanks and I like glass for they are easier for me to keep clean, and I don't break out in a sweaty heartache worrying about scratching glass. I love fish of all kinds thou I do get mad at some of the meaner jerks so it's hard for me to choose, but I'll always go with Oscars they can be mean and also be big bubba's that interact with you. Thank you for showing us the difference in both of these tanks and how each are set up, I love to put plants into my tanks and like you say they get munched on and get pulled out ending up floating on top of the water, or just die because I looked at them, so they are a hassle.. .thanks again David you have kept me loving tanks.
I actually had this exact same question for myself last year when I got my new big tank. The bigger tank was supposed to be for the south Americans. After a couple months, I switched the Africans to the bigger tank and got more 😂 something about the crazies that you just can't get enough of. Even now, I'm thinking about switching my mbuna tank with the American. The mbuna are ruthless 😂 Another awesome video.love the work!
is the plant on top of the tank help reducing your nitrate level? if yes I would like to know how you set it up. and how frequently you do water change now.
I have two 210's, 1 Central/South American and 1 peacock/Hap tank. I love them both! I love your channel as we share similar interests in this amazing hobby 😎. Question for you: Have you ever thought about keeping Discus? That may be my next project.
Switch off the heater when doing WC
I have a temperature controller and I just checked to make sure that it’s off before I do water change or have it sideways like I do in the smaller tank so that it’s never emerged while I’m doing the water change. Very good point though.
@@CichlidCharmer ohh good then ... i noticed the light was on (red) when you were removing water in the small tank .. that's why i said... because out of the water heat super quick
There cannot be only 1! There must be many! Great breakdown of the different types of tanks! And for sure scratches drive me crazy but it’s like a pair of sunglasses, once there out even the air scratches them, dumb Oakley. The detail you get into with your description makes me rethink some of my tanks but ultimately they are already here. The fish look great! And you can never have enough friends when it comes to moving! Stay happy and healthy my friend!!! 😊❤
Many tanks 😍 I’m just about out of room for cool tanks, so now I’ll have to get creative if I want more lol
But acrylic gets yellow over time right?
That’s a very good question and when I haven’t researched. I keep mine out of direct sunlight for the most part, so I think it would take quite a while for that to happen.
Definitely the biggest tank, I would just move the African cichlids there. Love your channel.
Thank you! I wish the Africans could have a tank that size. Thank you!!
Fantastic
Thank you!
Your decor is great. I love it❤😊
I appreciate that. I’m really happy with it
I built a 240gallon plywood tank, best thing I ever did under $1000. Probably in the direction of building another
No doubt that bigger is better, that's what she said!!!! U have way more possibilities with the new tank and not just with the room that is almost the doble is a long list of good stuff against the other one ,now I personally ,if we talk about the fish ,I like Africans, but the set up of course, the big one
Thanks! Africans are really cool, but I’m all about these Americans right now. Who knows, maybe that’ll change. I’ll never buy another acrylic.
Its all so very personal with fish keeping. Species, Aquascape, fake or real and the list goes on. San Quentin I like a tad more I think. I'd pass on a sump though.
Sumps -- scary and noisy. Thanks for the comment and good to see you back
South and Centrals 100%
I like that answer lol
I am a fan of South and Central American cichlids. I like their size and color. If I had the money and time, I would get a massive-- 1000 gallon or more-- tank for American cichlids. I also like some fish from Africa which act like American cichlids. A Starry Night cichlid is a perfect example. If I were to get an African cichlid tank, I would get an Mbuna tank so that I could do some rock work. On the type of tank, I would go with glass. The idea of having scratches in a tank that costs a ton of money is insane to me. I do not like buying new cars for this very same reason. The filter would depend of the fish. But I also want quiet tanks. I will have to see and hear the difference before finally deciding.
That is such a well thought-out response. Thank you for your comment!
So which is your favorite? Also, what’s your favorite type of cichlid?
I love them both! I lean towards peacock and haps because I deal with them so much and I know you didn’t show your Mbuna tank but the way they sort themselves into little gangs is special. The arrangement you have in san Quinton is very nice and the tree limb decor is yet to play its part if you ask me, it’s gorgeous don’t get me wrong. And Alcatraz is a tad under decorated in my opinion, I have Tons of rock stacked and a tree stump assorted in mine. It’s not for everyone it’s ok everyone does it different and that’s where both seeing and knowing other tanks look different that gives both perspective and appreciation, some make you dream others make you feel at home and some make you run away! In any case there are no rules as long as the fish are happy and healthy! 😊❤
Great video. I kept Africans for over 20 yrs. Primarily Mbuna. Recently went back to SA and CA. I like that you can keep more in a tank, basically I now go for more fish rather than a few large showpiece cichlids. I like the increased activity and to me they don’t seem to be just doing the same laps around the tank. YMMV
Hey bud. How many Mbuna do you suggest putting in a 75 Gallon tank?
My african chiclids are living with 2 goldfish and 4 minnows☠️ (they been living together for about a month now)
Let's move the one rock in a different spot so hell forget 😂
If my diagonals are off with 1cm is that a big problem?
I’m not an expert but I think it’s pretty important that it’s square.
Those angels are absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you!
Good job 👍
Thank you, Peter
Its beautiful. Ai prime are better looking imo. Thanks for sharing
Thank you - I agree 🤩
What is your camera set up? I have a video of my 200 gallon African cichlids and it's a bit blown out. Shot on my phone.

Why is my cichlid fish shakes and chase another cichlid and their fins ar damaged any reason
I don't know if I'm lucky or not. I think i ended up with 4 boys. They're about 9 months or so now and no signs of breeding. Im not sure if i should be happy or upset. I originally wanted to breed them, but they have a LOT of babies and I'm not sure about the market here for them! I don't want to be stuck with hundreds of fry i can't find homes for.
Yeah I hope I can rehome all my little guys. If you have four males, you might run into aggression issues, so keep an eye out.
What’s the dots on the fish tail fins
Good question. Those are egg spots on the anal fin. There’s an interesting reason why they are there, also. You should google it 🤘
Where can I find that tree trunk driftwood in the States? Beautiful tank!
I just found mine down by the river. I am in Idaho.
Hi, I’m rather new to the channel. I’ve kept fancy goldfish for about a year but I recently had some kind of bacteria or infection take over and I lost all my fish. I’m looking to restart with peacock cichlids, I’ve got a 75 gallon with a canister and hang on back filter and I’m looking to buy from snake river cichlids. Do you have any recommendations on keeping healthy fish as I seem to have fairly bad luck with fish but I love them too much to not keep them!
Welcome to the channel and to the crazy world of African cichlids 🤪. Good genetics, good food, and nice clean water with the right parameters for the fish you’re keeping are all important. Of course I’m assuming you know about the nitrogen cycle. If you don’t, learn about it before adding fish. Stress is a huge factor in keeping healthy fish, so make sure your tank is set up properly with the right kind and amounts of decor, and that you don’t let a lot of bullying go on. IME peacocks are the biggest a-holes out of all the African cichlids, so be warned.
Lovely
Thank you
My kinda RUclipsr 😊
Why thank you
Great fake rocks. Where one could buy them?
Aquadecor. Thank you!
great video! i did the same with the hose and most babies survived !
Look how smart we are lol. Thank you!
Did you keep the tank on rollers while outfitting it with committees or your sumpnsystem? It would seem to be easier to be able to move it off the wall as you work in route everything and then when you’re done slip it back into place and be finished. I would imagine anything at 2:40 up is really difficult to slide on the flooring, even with help.
No I didn’t. It was surprisingly easy to move back. So was my 435 glass tank!
Can you share the type of paint you used to color the back pane, and any techniques or special rollers would be helpful. I will going to figure out if painting it or placing vinyl on it will be best for me.thanks!
Sure. Rust-Oleum 1976502 Painter's... www.amazon.com/dp/B000BZX6UK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I just used a mini cabinet roller. Ultra smooth nap. It took about four coats because there was no primer.
Scheiß auf euch reichen
I am looking forward to seeing this tank develop and those fish grow. Thanks for sharing, you’re making me want to go even bigger than 210/240. Larry from Phoenix
Thanks man! My 240 is right around the corner from this beast. Now the 240 feels like a 75 lol. But if this wasn’t here, the 240 would still seem huge to me.
@@CichlidCharmer for sure

hey I've got a 6-foot tank what type of cichlid type would you recommend
Hi there. What an exciting position to be in - a blank canvas to fill. There are a lot of different types to choose from in that size tank. Lots of different factors to evaluate, like stocking levels you want, aggression levels, max fish size you feel comfortable with, etc. I’ll be comparing my peacocks and haps vs my Americans in this coming Saturday’s video.
It's always so inspiring to have fry in an aquarium, last week i saw 5 little Bristlenose Pleco in my tank, I hope they will grow
Yeah it means you’re doing something right. Congrats on the bristlenose fry!
I had a lab and a demasoni, eventually the demasoni went ballistic and killed almost all fishes on the tank, it was a thing of in just a few days and I was heavy on work and couldn't react. beautiful fish but had to return to the store
Oh that sounds like a nightmare. I’ve heard those demasoni are terrors.
I am no ciclid guy (now considering dwarf SA ciclids) but man, I love your videos. Honestly, keep it up cause it makes learning, fun. Are EBAs on the same size scope as Apistos and SA Rams? Thank you for replying, you really live up to your word!
Wow thank you! So EBAs get a lot larger than the dwarf cichlids you mentioned. Apistos and rams are pretty small. These guys get around 6” so by no means dwarves. I haven’t had them that long, but I think their temperament is probably fairly similar though. With dwarves you still need to make sure there’s enough space for them to establish their own territories, so if you have more than a single or a mating pair, you need to consider somewhat larger tanks. A single pair is fine in a 20 gallon.
Great video
Thank you!
Great set up! I enjoyed watching this a apistogramma cactuoides tank come together. I went to a fish swap today, looking for something the inhabit my 40b planted aquarium and came home with a tripple red. I didn't get a pair but now I want to find a female after watching this.
Thank you! My apistos didn’t fair very well. Not sure why. Glad you’re having fun with yours though. You’ll love the fry if you get a female.
Congrats on the fry, already done my good deed for the week. Helped my neighbour with their tv wifi connection.
Thanks and that’s a good one. You also did another good deed - stuck around to the end of the video lol
I had 4 of these. 3 jumped out of the little opening in the back of my 75 gallon. No more of these for me. They are beautiful fish though
Jumpers, eh? Thanks for the warning, Gregory.
Good luck with the fry! I started with 5 young adults and separated two and now have a trio of one male and two females in a 75 gallon continuously spawning, yikes! Didn't have the ability to set up another tank for the babies but after one failed spawn, the rest have been successful with zero effort from me, but they're also the biggest fish in their tank so different experience I'm sure XD! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing your experience! I wish I had room for another 75 for them all
