Sounds like you have a good amount of CO2 in your water and once it evaporates after sitting raises to your true PH
2.21 am Hey buddy look fwd to watching your videos .I am a chiclids lover Peacocks, Haps and Mbunas .Couple things 1 need a yellow lab in that Mbuna tank 2 i use the eggcrate on my glass for my rocks and lock the rocks in with the sand for my Mabuna tank that way there is no shiffting of the rocks are set .And yes you do need more rocks but your tanks look great anyways .I have a 55 gal with 25 Mabunas male and female my agression isnt as bad as i have created lots of nooks and cranni so there is alot of places to go into .Keep the videos coming loving it .I am in Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean
Honestly wish I never listened to petco telling me I can keep 10-15 cichlids in a 20g long, after doing research, I found out just my blue dolphin needs around 125g 😢 they're babies but still, im moving them as soon as possible
I can't believe they told you that. I mean, I actually can... 😭
You dumb
What kind of lights of those on the 180? I just finished building my stand for my 150 gallon followed ur video step by step but just changed the dimensions for my size and I used 2x6 im sure the stand can hold a ton 😅 I was going to use 2x4 but I was like extra support never hurt
You should run a sump for your 240 that’s what I run and I agree with the 8 ft tank it’s amazing
I have a mixture of large and small tanks and large and small fish. I still have a long list of fish I want and that list contains large and small fish. I just love fish.
My favorite size tank is 72"x12"x12" (45 G) it makes for a great planted, nano, bookshelf tank. The 120"x18"x18" (165G) custom plexiglass. I like the look of long and low tanks, they are my favorites. My next build is a 120"x12"x 12" (112G).
I bought a nice oak stand 35 years ago, and I still have the 55 gal on it. It's currently empty. I'm looking for a 33 long for it, so I can do a natural dirt/sand/planted/filterless.
Another great way to add new fish with less issue…. Rearrange the tank, Then they all have to look for new spots
What if you are out of the house ?
They still work, but I can't change them while I am gone.
Fresh water tanks are boring.
I really like my 120g 4x2x2 rim less
Nice
What’s the collection point of the Salvini?
I don't have that information
Id love to get the 180 for my mbunas and get the 240 for my haps! I love the fact that you made the 240 longer instead of the 6ft length and taller !
Good tank sizes. Thank you!
I’m African cichlidless for the first time in a decade lol Changed one to a FOWLR and one to a vieja setup
Viejas -- super cool.
So I'm new to fish world and hobby. Been watching your videos and have to say you give a great amount of quality information. I haven't bought a tank yet so trying to gather alot of info so I can make the best decision. Question is can you buy too big of a tank? I'm thinking of only starting with 3-5 fish and and I notice you don't have snail, loaches, algea eaters, pleckos in any of your tanks. Is this not necessary for these type of fish.
"God will know if you don't, that will be very bad" 😂😂😂. I currently have Peacocks, Haps and Mbunas together in my 135g, they are all doing fine, just the regular aggression (ocassional chase) but nothing for me to worry about, I also have a Thickskin Obliquedens in the with them, he is still small but doing just fine.
Can a green terror, jack Dempsey tank be a 48" 105 gallon tank? Or should I step up to a 60" 100+ tank? There would probably be a couple more similar sized fish in there as well.
Such a great question. So I always err on the side of caution. I usually go above what the minimum suggested tank size is, especially if there are multiple fish of about the same size. Those two get pretty big and are somewhat aggressive. I wanted them for my 180 but decided against it. I wouldn't put either of those in the tank sizes you mentioned, but some other smaller sized fish like around the six inch mark or so would be a better option imo.
I have a 5 gallon for shrimp that sits on my wife and my T shaped desk so I always have something to watch. I have a 29 gallon with female bettas, aquatic frogs and a super red and snow white bristle nosed pleco. I have a 55 gallon in the living room with congo tetras, rainbow praecox, yoyo loaches and female koi bettas. I have a 75 gallon in my bedroom with 10 assorted goldfish from butterfly telescopes, shubunkin, fantails and a moor. I have too many ideas for tanks to settle for one aquascape.
You obviously have a passion for your aquatic critters ❤️
@ The only things holding me back from a 125 are not knowing whether my floors can handle the weight and the question of if I could ever move it if I changed my mind as I'm 57.
@@rogerhuggettjr.7675 It's definitely more of a commitment once you get up to the 125 size, and the floor support is no joke.
@@CichlidCharmer I think the only fish I'm really interested in that I'd want a 125 for would be for clown loaches.
@@rogerhuggettjr.7675 For some reason I like clown loaches when they are smaller, but I don't really care for them much when they get huge. Good fish though!
Dude I’m curious in where u got the awesome decor pieces they can go through
Petco, but they are discontinued, unfortunately.
Agree on the 55! I've got one on a stand that's large enough for a 75, and my winter projects include swapping it out. It is nearly impossible to get a good looking scape, whether it's a rockscape for mbuna, or a decent planted aquascape.
I can see that. Just too darned narrow.
Great video! Big Charlie says hi!
Thanks, and hi Big Charlie 🤩
what chemicals do you use in your quarantine tank when you get new fish
I don't treat new fish unless they show signs of illness, but I do add stress guard if the new fish were shipped to me.
so you don’t medicate any of your fish?
Try koi prazi
How do people feel about live fish direct? They’re local to me which makes it way more affordable
I've really been noticing Geo's lately, and have been wondering about them. Thanks for the info.
That choclate cichlid at 13:34 looks really tore up?
He does! Good catch. It was a while ago, and I don't remember him actually being torn up. However, he did get a few scratches recently and I moved him to a grow out tank for him to recover. He's very mild mannered and surely easy to pick on. It just took a few days for him to fully recover, and I'll add him back with some others I have coming.
I always urge people to stay away from 55s
Plant antichrist😆
Skipped right over the 40
I don't have a 40. Never have. Good tank though.
What filtration are you running on the 435? Sump?
Yes. It's a seamless sump from Custom Aquariums
Beautiful tanks, my man... I have a 75-gallon. I call peaceful river 2 Discus 3 electric blue acara 3 keyhole cichlid 11 Rummy nose tetra 1 clown loach 1 beautiful Alibono heckelii. And nobody wasting nobody.😂
Sounds very serene. Good name! Thank you
10 gallon not included in this video too funny, I put away mine hopefully not to find more fry, please no more fry. I know everyone is tired of hearing about my custom 90gal 48x18x24 it is perfect for me I don't need a stool to work in it and still can have a few smaller cichlids to watch and enjoy their psychoses. One of my least favorite from the past was the 125gal, it was too narrow I felt really bad for my Oscars and huge Pleco all squished in it. Well now for my all-time tank I would never buy again is this new reef tank a 60gal cube 24x24x24, I just had to have one after seeing all the pretty saltwater pictures. It is a really strange size to work with, and don't even think of getting a stand, oh there is one made for this tank but I wouldn't put a 10gal on it, good thing I have crafty sons, and one built me a really nice one. It is hard to figure out a reef rock structure, size and how many livestock can fit, anyway lessons learned, or I just need to be patient. Great video, love the format with music added, your tanks and fish are so beautiful leaving me drooling for a bigger tank....nah just kidding well maybe. Thanks for all your info and cursing haha love it.
The end of your comment "well maybe" so funny. Too bad about your cube tank. It looks great though. I think a 125 is good for a lot of smaller fish and maybe up to 10 inches depending on the fish. I think my 180 is even too small for an Oscar with other fish. That's why I didn't have one until San Quentin. But that's me. And I'm kind of a weirdo lol
@@CichlidCharmer Well if you're a weirdo what does that make me, no wait don't answer that...I can't wait to see your guys when they all are bigger especially that Black Nasty, I have wanted one for years but not a big enough tank in my house ever for one sigh!
@@pollylewis9611 Seems like they aren't growing at all. Slow growers I guess!
Just Subscribed because I don’t want to Die
Well done. Thanks for playing it safe 😁
Of coarse my favorite tank is my 540 Gallon, I have to pat myself on the back, it was well thought out, Water changes is a Breeze, The Sump is an additional 120 Gallons and it has (2) Double stack NuClear filters powered by Iwaki 100's. The down side was the tools to net and clean. I had to make them myself because the tank is so tall. Next up would be my custom 170 gal which is 76" Long, 20" Deep and 36" Tall yes its more like a 230 Gal but with all the decor it actually only holds 170 Gal. This is my Mbuna Tank and has a Universal Rocks background with Universal submersible rocks stacked from end to end and from Bottom 2/3 of the way up and some Univeral Rocks Floating rocks turned upside down and screwed off to the top of the tank.
Sweet sounding tank 🔥🔥🔥
I respectfully disagree because I had a 60-gallon, exactly like a 55-gallon little bit taller. I was going to upgrade for the 75 gallon but I don't see the point, and I upgraded to the 125-gallon. Plus, who comes up with these fish tank designs? As for you don't have a green thumb. Well, that's why you're the photographer, lol.
Hey if it works for you that's good. I was always bothered by how thin the 55s looked as a kid and early adult, and I never even saw a 75. Once I saw it I was amazed at the difference it made. Thanks for the comment!
At 3:01 can I ask where you purchased that plant and what type is it???
Ah, that's one of the plants I bought from lower40farms on Etsy. The black plants in Alcatraz are also from there. I don't remember the name of the plants though.
55 gallon tanks to me are totally pointless. Just get the 75, you're literally "almost there" and a lot the filters will still work with both a 55 and 75. Most stands I see will also work with both. Just bite the bullet and get the 75. I feel like there's just a few more options for fish too.
Almost there... 100%!!
Apologies, addicted to 55s, though 75s would better suit my angel, diamond tets, and congo's (separate tanks). Been lining them on walls. Small house, got tanks cheap. But again 75 or 125 would be better, maybe someday. Thanks for journey.
And pretty tanks too, how fun
Lining the walls with tanks sounds absolutely lovely.
Thank you!
be cool if you did a little more extended view on the tank, like to see the details closer, like the back of the doors

I have lots more of my expanded tanks in my new home.
I mean 75 gallon African cichlids tank you got wave makers 2 right 👍
@@thiransamarajeewa6753 Ohhh, yeah that tank is now my mbuna tank. The peacocks and haps are in my 180 now. My bigger tanks all have wavemakers, but the 75's wavemaker stopped working and I need to buy a replacement.

I had 29 gallon, then upgraded to 40 which I was proud of and finally got my 55 a few days ago and I feel like the 55 tank is huge...now after watching this video I am so humbled. I feel like I own nothing. 😢
