North fin what I hear is great food I would feed that here in Australia I get the Xtreme Rick Boro formula is proven and how my fish look I'm am fully convinced not saying anything bad about Northfin
When I started the hobby, I had 3 tanks each 20 gallons. Sooner, I upgraded to 85 gallons, 65 gallons, and 5 gallons tanks (for a betta obviously). I am lucky to live closer to a wholesale aquarium market, and it's not super expensive to set up a new tank.
I have a 65, 55, 20, 15 and 5 gallon tank but all of them have small to medium fish. I appreciate monster fish but it's just easier to maintain a tank with 4 inches or less fish. I am more fond of community tanks than bare tanks. I believe our fish are happier when we emulate their natural habitat by putting aquatic plants.
Good points for sure. I have 6 tanks 1 big tank with big Cichlids. Then 2 all natural planted dirted tanks and 3 other planted tanks. And BTW I get a shower Everytime I go to feed the Cichlids as they are so excited and splash water 99% of the time when feeding so fun I love it
I prefer big fish. My Severums are so happy to see me when I walk up to my big tank. Actually all the CA/SA do that they gather up and stare at me so cute waiting for their food. So crazy to watch them eat. You will experience this when the fish get older and bigger you will love how they look at you. I so wish I could get a 450 gal tank. Your wife must love fish to. 😂 to let you get that big of a tank. Nothing beats the way the CA/SA cichlids look at you with the little fishy puppy eyes lol. You mentioned you have a chocolate cichlid. I have one to and it’s a female. They grow really slow just to let you know. I love my chocolate cichlid and how she changes colors everyday. What other fish are you looking to add to the 450 gal. Appreciate the videos and always love the content. I feed my fish a combo of extreme fish food and omega one. I mix and switch it up. I also have a planted 55 gal tank. This tank has rainbow fish and Denison barbs and Congo tetras And I am growing out my first Firemouth and AC heckali. I have never had a geophagus species and the AC heckali is so pretty even at a young age. I also have a EBA in the 55 gal tank and love him so much.
Buck has given me a taste of how they look at you. He’s so cute (he’s the true parrot). My wife does like fish, but hates the maintenance, so she’s happy to let me do it all. I have noticed that the chocolate cichlid is a slow grower so far. Do you feed some floating pellets to her? They are always angled upward to catch their food from the surface of the water. Very interesting. I’m not entirely sure what’s going in next. I need some sveni for sure. I have my panda Uaru to add, but I’m afraid he’ll be too mellow. I’d like two more of him if possible. Thank you, Jeremy. Good to hear from you as always.
AT one point I had 3 running tanks (125g, 90g & 75g). I moved and gave away a lot. I had grow tanks, hospital tanks you name it. I went all in. My wife told me I love the fish more than her, lol. Now I'm down to one remaining large oscar. Will I go before her? unknown. But she will hopefully be my last after 7 years of fish keeping. I do love it but we can't do everything in life so I did do it for awhile, now time to move on to something else. It was a great experience, I do treasure my time that I spent with all my various fresh water fish. ps Angels are beautiful but can be nasty towards other fish plus they breed a lot of babies, I know from experience. Great video, thanks! I sub'd.
I got out of the hobby several years back for at least a decade. There's no point doing it if you feel you need a break from it, I agree. You can still feed your interest by watching other people in the hobby on RUclips, so that's something. Thanks for the comment and for subscribing!
I'm in love w my tiny nano fish. Biggest fish I have is a Betta who is tankboss of a tank he shares w harlequin, porkchop, snd merah rasboras and scrounging the bottom are habrosus corys, and anchor cats. My 20 long is home to triliniatus corys including 4 juveniles, ember tetras, and the centerpiece fish are a male/female pair of sunset honey gourami. I have yet another smaller tank that I was just continuing to grow plants in, I scaped it and a pair of orange dwarf crayfish are lovin' the green jungle in there.
Rehoming my iredescent sharks is heartbreaking! They are the most gentle and loving fish I own, this being said they also spook super easy and turns into a missile flying up and down right and left over and through decorations. I often say they cannot hurt you, they can harm themselves so learning how to even put your hand or siphon in the tank is a learning experience. Slow and steady let them explore you and you’ll be fine, if you whip your hand around or plunge a siphon right next or in front of, god forbid you accidentally hit them, it’s enough to stop my heart with how much they stress, and like I said can hurt themselves. I was able to sell my koi but sharks just have a bad wrap and at their size now they need special care and attention. Crossing my fingers I find that one special person! Great video and great topic! I had a teenager cry to me begging for my sharks but his tank was only a 29 gallon. My sharks wouldn’t be able to even turn around in that! Gotta be 8 foot plus! Stay happy and healthy my friend! 😊❤
Poor guys. To live with that much anxiety all the time. But it sounds like they have a great keeper. Thank you for watching, and it’s good to see you back 🥰
i like BiG Fish for many reasons. One is because they are easier to see at a distance. My new Fav fish is my Blue Texas Cichlid which is by itself in a 90 gallon with one FX6, a SICCE XStream SDC wave maker, BRS saltwater heater, InkBird 306A set at 77F - 78F, and three 48" Fluval Aquasky 2.0's in which each light is set at 20%.
Love watching your videos of the big fish, but for me I like peaceful community fish with heavily planted tanks. My main tank is 132 gallons. A Red Sea Reefer I turned freshwater.
Great video!👍🏽 I’m a big fish kind of guy, but I do like a few smaller fish in a few of my tanks. I call them the backup singers, and background dancers lol 😂. But for sure I’m a monster fish fan, and feeding them is expensive 😱
i dont mind big fish, something with more personality and easier to notice if there's a sickness. fancy goldfish so far are my biggest fish and I love how easy it is to catch them if I need to give them salt bath
hello how are you doing today. I have a question for you in the video certain at 5:49 in video what kind of fish is that and at 6:01 in the video it swims above a block in yellow fish what kind of fish is the Block in yellow fish to they're both good and cool looking and I haven't seen those two that I know of
👏🏻hello👏🏻 how are you doing today. cichlid charmer thanks for replying back to me. and both electric blue Texas cichlid And the savini cichlid are cool and nice coloration.
I currently have a 55 gallon with 2 fire mouths 1 Jack Dempsey 1 convict and I thought that was a lot I don't know how he does it mad respect. Also before everyone starts saying that's too small the 55 is just a grow out.
i had oscar, hi fin shark (catfish) , and flower horn. the problem with big fish is their maintenance and big fish doesnt work with community set up because they eat everything they can put in their mouth and if you tried to put plants on their tank they will just nip on it and destroy it. this is why is i am just keeping nano fish nowadays since you can apply the walstad method on nano fishes simply because its community tank (you have the main fish, the bottomfeeders and the cleaners) plus i could throw a lot of plants which can actually help with cleaning the water which means lesser water change. big fish are cool, hardy and sometimes they come personality. but its not for everyone
Hi mate, big fish for me, that’s why I like the nut jobs especially predator haps. Purchased mine as juvies so I can watch them grow together all been close to equal size. I have always been feeding northfin since day 1 when j Wilson sold it. Had to import from Canada . Now it’s everywhere. 4 tank later from 10gallon to 210gallon 2 African + 2 mbuna. 👍👍
I keep fish because I love them and would dearly love a couple of huge tanks for larger specimens but I also really like a more natural aquascape with multiple shoals of small fish. I suspect that even if I had the room for a 300 gallon tank it would have a lot of smaller shoaling fish, not just a couple of whoppers,
Watching this laughing because you hit on so many valid points. I had a 14” Male Jaguar in a 220 for years and always wondered if it was still too small. Unfortunately had to give it up and luckily a friend took the tank and the fish because my 3 year old has taken over my living room and now left me with a 29 gallon planted tetra tank 😭😭. Do you still have the angel fish/ Tapajo tank ?
Heh, you always want more for your guys. I went for years without a tank at all, so I feel your pain with having just a small one now. But still - it’s a tank! I do still have the 180. I lost some of my angels, and I will rehome the others most likely. I need more exciting fish than those guys 🤪
Having a big tank really helps with keeping big cichlids. I can see that your large tank will be good for your Oscar so he has room to get away from the Texas cichlid. In a smaller tank the Texas cichlid may corner an Oscar. I have seen people keep Oscars with Red Devils, Texas cichlids and jaguar cichlids in very large aquariums. I have never had as large of a tank as yours so I used to keep Oscars with venustus and blue dolphin cichlids because they never set up territories and just swam together like a hungry school of fish.
My Texas is surely the most aggressive so far. I’m aware I might have to rehome him, but hopefully it works out. It’s funny how he’s really afraid of the Salvini. See you next time, Benjamin!
Thank God I don't have large fish I'm an owner of 12 guppy fish and a betta I currently have two 10 gallon tanks installed it all costed me around 280 US dollars the best thing is that I never have to do anything I dirted and planted both tanks. Their basically mini ecosystems and I rarely see any fish waste I always recommend nano fish over larger fish 🐠
Sounds beautiful. You know I’m still learning with these Americans. I know Jack Dempsey can be aggressive, but from what I understand, they’re not as aggressive as what you would think. It might be worth a try and then just be prepared to rehome him if you need to make sure he doesn’t terrorize everyone.
We all have different personalities and like different things. I personally can't keep community fish. I find them boring and not interesting. Big fish are just what's fun for me. My rule is nothing over 8". I have a 8" grammodes who jumps for food and glass surfs all day when he sees me.
@CichlidCharmer I've been using alot of frozen food lately and tetra color flakes and granules. None of my local stores carry nf and I don't think I've seen it on Amazon.
What's the saying, oh yes. "Bigger is better", yup if I had bigger tanks I'd have wall to wall Oscars everywhere. I like how you mention POOP so I'd need a bigger sewer system with Oscars the turd making machines. 45gals are my biggest, three of them, and I still want bigger ones, thou I do find these 45gals a lot easier for me to work with (yes, I'm getting older), so I'm really limited on what to put in them what a few 4-5in fish, sigh. Thank you for showing us your wonderful tanks and fish and for the info on what it takes to have the bigger hunks, aw yes, the hunks.......
Definitely don’t want to get more than you can handle, Polly. I still love hearing about all your tanks, since when we met, you were barren of tanks lol. Thanks for the kind words as always.
I use a Canon R6 with a 35mm 1.4 lens. I also use my iPhone for the aquarium b roll shots. Davinci Resolve is my editing program. It’s awesome, and you can do just about everything with the free version. Your voice is spectacular in your videos btw 🤩🤩🤩
I live in Czech and small fish Cost around 1$ and aulonocara around 3-5$ its depends where u live 😅 and some fish like oscar and big fish for large tank can be cheaper, because a lot of people dont have that a big tank for keeping this fish and price go Down.
I used to have a 10 gal 5 gal and 1 gal for looks. I moved and had to get rid of them but I just recently got a 20 gal high. If anyone knows of a decent sized fish that can live in there comfortably let me know because I would like to have my first big dish so to say
@@CichlidCharmer I am stuck between the two. The shell dweller breed easily and and the white with blue eyes is pretty. the fish shop I go to says they will give me store credit if I bring something in, but also apistogrammas have beautiful color, so that is where I am. Also the 20 gal has live plants all over with some nice driftwood and tons of rocks with a sand bottom
@@Yourman_Sam Apistos won't move as much sand. Those shell dwellers make your tank look kind of ugly if you don't like huge piles of sand everywhere lol
I already do I went with a duel sump two 40 gallon breeder and drilled the glass and pvc them together that’s how I used to run my reef tank I can’t stand seeing equipment in the aquarium it drives my nuts
Lmaooo….So funny about the Africans vs Americans topic when talking about poop….my old African tanks you never saw any poop ever….now my American tanks with a giant Aro and Geos pooping all over the place is just not an awesome sight 💩
I'm not being racist but those Africans are super aggressive. I love them though cos they have great colours and personalities!!! Some don't like hybrids but i love them cos they are unique and you get stunning colours on them!!
I don’t think that has anything to do with racism. They are aggressive, fish, but they are nothing compared to some of the central American cichlids. I love them all 😄
I like big fish. I am into African cichlids and American cichlids. I had about 10 African cichlids. Peacocks and a couple of mbuna. They all died because I believe it was high nitrates. I am getting back into fish keeping real soon. I want big fish for my 60 gallon tank. By the way I love your contents. Thank you for all of your informations.
You don't like two inch-long poops in your tank? I've found the African poops to be just like pleco poops -- thin and long. But the Africans are prettier than plecos imo.
I've got a 4g, 9g & 17g & plan on doing a 55g. All of them have small fish because it's a waste to have a tank for only a handful of fish when you can have snails, shrimp & nano fish as a balance to the hardscape & plants. (1/3 balance for each) Big fish are nice to look at, but I already have big dogs with their shits to manage & don't want to have to do it with larger fish. ^^

@CichlidCharmer I just got a 125 and it will house my clown loaches, roseline sharks, eba's, black knife and various rainbow fish.
I prefer small tanks, my biggest is 40 gallons, my smallest is a 3 gallon shrimp tank. Betta fish also have great personalities 🩵

Yeah started with a 29 for free got a 125 and 2 75s an 50 lol 😆 plus all the little tanks in between that my friend got
Male Congo Tetras are an Amazing and nice sized tetra(3''-4'') A small group of them look so good..!
@@2869may They sound awesome thank you for your advice, I might just have to get another tank LOL!
Definitely don’t want to get more than you can handle, Polly. I still love hearing about all your tanks, since when we met, you were barren of tanks lol. Thanks for the kind words as always.
Big fish for sure!
My angelfish both swim to the front of the tank when I put my face up to it.
Awww. Cute angels.
What camera do you use to record and what do you use to edit the vids?!
@@CichlidCharmer thank you so much I appreciate it greatly! Your videos are always amazing, I look forward to every single one!!
@@fishwateraquatics You're welcome! And thank you back -- that's a lot of pressure for furture videos lol
The best solution is outdoor pond with cold water fish😊
That's no fun 😜
Definitely big fish. But not just big, but big and active.
I agree there. Maybe not AC active, but more active than discus level energy 😂
Got a poop problem?
"Put some dirt and sand in it"-FatherFish
Double down for saltwater I love my lion fish as much as my cichlid but are they ever a lot of work
Too much work for me, but definitely beautiful!
I live in Czech and small fish Cost around 1$ and aulonocara around 3-5$ its depends where u live 😅 and some fish like oscar and big fish for large tank can be cheaper, because a lot of people dont have that a big tank for keeping this fish and price go Down.
Thanks. Cool to know you watched all the way over there!
MY arowana lovew his buddies they are Gold fish
I used to have a 10 gal 5 gal and 1 gal for looks. I moved and had to get rid of them but I just recently got a 20 gal high. If anyone knows of a decent sized fish that can live in there comfortably let me know because I would like to have my first big dish so to say
Small fish for that 20g. If you like cichlids, look into dwarf cichlids like the various Apistogramma or shell dwellers.
Nice
I like my tanks to be comparable to the thunderdome in mad max
Conjures beautiful images of chaos and war. Perfect for cichlids 😂
The curse of my 500 gallon calls back to me..
Biggest con for me ( if you move homes or something) its gonna be a complete nightmare
That's a good one
Main tank is 175
Why....BOTH of course. 😊
Excellent answer
I just got my first 240 gallon tank
You’re gonna love it!
It’s insane, the poop. Thank you!
I love them all 😄
I got a Green terror he’s big and greedy
My fish will eat nothing but beluga whale nipple. I feel like I've made a rod for my own back.
That’s mainly what I eat as well.
@@CichlidCharmer At precisely 2:07 pm daily or other times as well?
@@FlyingBystandernot sure what you mean
@@CichlidCharmer My fish are that picky they will only eat Beluga Whale Nipple daily at precisely 2:07 pm. How about you?
@@FlyingBystander Mine aren't quite as picky 😂
I like big fish. I am into African cichlids and American cichlids. I had about 10 African cichlids. Peacocks and a couple of mbuna. They all died because I believe it was high nitrates. I am getting back into fish keeping real soon. I want big fish for my 60 gallon tank. By the way I love your contents. Thank you for all of your informations.
It’s very sad to lose your fish. Sorry to hear it. I hope your next venture into the cichlid world is successful. Thank you!
"Big fish" and 60 gallons are not a good combination.... It that the tank all those cichlids died in...?
@@2869mayyes it was. I am working on a 90 gallon tank in the near future.
@@CichlidCharmerthank you so much.
@@davidglass91460 gallons is not enough for big fish
Feed your big fish tilapia …shrimp…chicken
Chicken??
@@CichlidCharmer yeah…chicken…I use breast…less fat…I feed my arowana….by bichir…and other big cichlids that…I also feed beef heart….tilapia…shrimp
Always big fish or nothing at all 😄😄😄😄😄
🤘
Pleco poo is the worst
You don't like two inch-long poops in your tank? I've found the African poops to be just like pleco poops -- thin and long. But the Africans are prettier than plecos imo.
I've got a 4g, 9g & 17g & plan on doing a 55g. All of them have small fish because it's a waste to have a tank for only a handful of fish when you can have snails, shrimp & nano fish as a balance to the hardscape & plants. (1/3 balance for each)
Big fish are nice to look at, but I already have big dogs with their shits to manage & don't want to have to do it with larger fish. ^^
Good reason to stay small 😂😂😂😂
Earth worms 🪱 are a great healthy food for them
And you can find them in the back yard 👍
Ya I have 10 tanks 😮👀
Good points for sure. I have 6 tanks 1 big tank with big Cichlids. Then 2 all natural planted dirted tanks and 3 other planted tanks. And BTW I get a shower Everytime I go to feed the Cichlids as they are so excited and splash water 99% of the time when feeding so fun I love it
I have 5 Silver Dollars and they are splashers too...!
Good variety of tanks you have there. Not sure if you have Africans, but they are big time splashers.
@@CichlidCharmer yea no African Cichlids they are beautiful but I just haven't felt like keeping them
