After seeing how gorgeous Buck is, I went ahead and got one from Predatory fins. He's still about 3 inches but I'm excited to watch him/her grow. I am also going to try the polishing filter hack. And Yeah, I'm with you on not liking snails. Always love your videos!
Wow, you got a true parrot -- you're gonna love him. My second one is still only between 2-3 inches and looks quite different than Buck does. He's a lot darker. Hope you love yours. Thank you and it's always good to hear from you!
Great vid! Thank You! New sub, new fish owner after about 30 years. I really like the idea of a filter for biological and a separate one for mechanical!
Thank you! In my latest video, I actually removed all my fine sponges and set up a 407 as just a polishing filter on Alcatraz. It's working like a charm.
I have a fluval 206 that i got secondhand with a tank a few years ago. It's been very reliable. I dropped the shell and cracked it and had to repair it, so now it runs the turtle pond outside.
Nice! Vieja are great fish! Snail shells are great for calcium as they break down. I have a bunch of sea shells in my substrates for that reason, slow but steady process there. Stay happy and healthy my friend!
Thank you so much for this! I'm honored. It takes a lot of time for me to do just a single video -- around 14 hours or so for just a short ten-minute video. I'm trying to get quicker at it, but for now this is about all I can manage. Thank you again, Brody!
I use an AquaClear 70 for my polishing filter. I pack it with fine sponge filter and filter floss. It's WAY easier to change out the filter floss than opening up your 407 filter. It takes me two minutes to change biweekly and I only clean FX6's once a year. also, use Nerite snails with extream caution...... their eggs get on everything!!! and are impossible to get rid of.
You know I heard some loud screaming coming from far away now I know what it was, "your plants" oh no wait it was my own plants as they waist away..... Love the music you stick in here and there very relaxing. SNAILS.. oh don't let me get going on them.. it has been an uphill battle between those bloody little jerks and me, I have the same kind in 2 tanks I finally tore down the tanks put in diff. substrate and guess what, yup just yesterday I found 2 of those nasty little jerks, oh I will win you little _hits, oh yes I will win. OK, enough I'm getting heated, tell your puppers they're not alone my dog does the same "Saydee Stop" oh well what can a person do. Can't wait to see how St. Vincent and Buck look when all in their prime how exciting I'm jealous. Thank you for showing us another awesome Refresh always fun to watch!
Lol on the plants 🤣 so you have those peaky snails too! Hate them. Someone mentioned there might be eggs in the substrate we are buying. Maybe that's it. I kind of have filun picking them out of the tank though. It's like popping black heads for me lol.
Awesome! Question for you. I have a fx4, tidal 110, and a 407 on my 75 gallon mbuna tank. It is stocked with about 25 mbuna. Should I change the 407 into a polishing filter canister?
Had a Vieja for about 12 years and was my favorite fish of all time! RIP, Leroy! @ChichlidCharmer, your American tank has turned out great! If you found the driftwood, rather than buying git at a store, can you tell us what you did, if anything, to treat it? There are varying opinions on YT. I've got a beautiful piece in my garage that I found at a creek, but not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.
I love all your videos! First comment! Love plants but had my issues. Java ferns I like. I was thinking of getting a red tail shark. Is yours aggressive?
I have a Red tail shark in my American cichlid tank and yes they are aggressive but not too bad in my opinion. The 4 inch red tail shark chases my 7 inches Jack Dempsey lol
If you get rid of the useless red baskets in your fx6 you can fit more media in them, also some people with snail problems use assassin snails, i don't have any experience with them as they are illegal here in Australia, i only use mystery snails in my tanks they look cool and come in lots of colours.
Snails only become pests when you’ve been over feeding has occurred. I know they’re not from the same country however loaches will eat your snails. Great content, beautiful tank….. Regards Duzzy 🇦🇺
David, The snails probably came in on the substrate that you bought. If you want these snails to be gone forever. I would suggest adding some clown loaches or yoyo loaches to San Quentin. The clown loaches will dig in the sand and they eat snails. Than you can let nature do the work for you. Get about 6 clowns since they like to be in a group. Your tank can handle them and they are cute. Plus they can live with CA SA cichlids just fine.
I have, clown loaches and assassin snails that are all fat from eating all the snails, but they can't keep up I don't mind a few snails here and there but wow they multiply into tons. I thought they came in on my substrate too well the trumpet ones the other kinds from my snail free plants I buy ha right?!
Actually i think you might have got those snails with the sand itself . this is what i got with one of my tanks. which is feasible bcz those snails are almost indistructatble, they can survive hidden in sand for a long time even without water
@CichlidCharmer funny thing about pool filter balls, been using them for years in our pool, didn't even occur to me that could be great for aquariums too, saw an aquarist from EU with a 3 meter aquascape tank, and lo and behold he was using pool filter balls, immediately tried it afterwards, IMO it's better than filter floss (been using these since I started 25 years ago) I'm a pool filter ball convert now (almost 6 months to date).
ALL plant I dip for 20 minutes in a 25% hydrogen peroxide solution. Some plants don’t make it, that’s the extra price I pay to keep pathogens out of my aquariums. I find Anubias and Swords are the most tolerant.
If you've enjoyed this video, remember to like and subscribe. What are some of your favorite projects with your own tanks?
I keep coming back to this channel. Your tanks look great. The visuals and music create a relaxing YT experience. Nice job 👍
Thank you! I'm glad you find the videos relaxing.

The vieja cichlids are for sure in my top 10 favourite fish. Great video as always thank you for sharing.
Thank you!
Love it!
Thank you
I've been wanting to add some plants to my 55gal and totally forgot Petsmart sells them, guess I'm heading up to there today.👍👍👍

I like a few mystery and nitrite 👍
I use a large hang on the back to polish👍
Can you do more videos a week please?

@@CichlidCharmer I understand. I love your content!!
@BrodyStringer-kw4jq That really means a lot to me. Thank you again!
Assassin Snails work wonders and they’re cool to watch.
In addition to your polishing filter add a UV sterilzer for ultra clear water 👍
Kevin's a Carpintis? 🤔
Yes

The Fluval looks like it's a lot easier to setup than a Marineland canister filter. That might be my next investment.
Nice
Thank you!

I would. Or maybe fill the tidal with poly fil. That would be even easier.

My driftwood in the 180 I found by the river, and it was too big for me to soak. I just pressure washed it and called it good. Thank you!
I had one ☝️ in my tank within 3 weeks I end up with about 100 plus. Was thinking about how do I get rid of them. Luckily I watched ur video
Someone mentioned a snail trap. I think that sounds like a great idea. Thanks!
Nicest tanks i've ever seem.
That's quite a compliment -- thank you!
My order of
Geophagus Alto Sinu, Red Head T, Golden Algae Eater & Orange bristlenose on the way
Where did you order them?
How much reinforcement did you need to add to have a 10 ft tank on your main level? That's so impressive in your living space
I had extra joists installed when the house was built. It's engineered to hold up to 6,500 lbs.
I love all your videos! First comment! Love plants but had my issues. Java ferns I like. I was thinking of getting a red tail shark. Is yours aggressive?
You always get the first comment. Thanks and good to see you again!

@@MiamiObi That's funny about your shark chasing your JD. My current one is very peaceful, but my last one did a lot of chasing.
Vieja envy...
Hi mate, great video, not a snail fan . Don’t like them because they can harbour parasites also.
I like a few mystery snails and nitrite snails can't breed in fresh water so they can't multiply 🙌
If you get rid of the useless red baskets in your fx6 you can fit more media in them, also some people with snail problems use assassin snails, i don't have any experience with them as they are illegal here in Australia, i only use mystery snails in my tanks they look cool and come in lots of colours.
Great ideas. I actually removed the red baskets in the lower two trays in mine to hold more bio media. Thank you!
Small Synodontis catfish will eat them. You can also train cichlids to eat them by smashing them on the glass.
Buy a snail trap! Sera makes a great on that’s very effective with MTS!
I've heard of those. I'll have to check them out!
Snails only become pests when you’ve been over feeding has occurred.
I know they’re not from the same country however loaches will eat your snails.
Great content, beautiful tank…..

Thank you! I don't think I'm overfeeding, but these Cichlids do poop a lot, and that's some good eatin' for the snails.
@ definitely

Clowns are a good idea for San Quentin because they are cute, but there aren't any snails in that tank. Just my African tanks. Thanks, Jeremy!
What's the name of the song?
Which one?
Actually i think you might have got those snails with the sand itself . this is what i got with one of my tanks. which is feasible bcz those snails are almost indistructatble, they can survive hidden in sand for a long time even without water
You are probably right 👍
I feel that way about pond snails 🤬 I have no problem tossing them in the trash.
or you can use pool filter balls... they're amazing too... washable too
I'm looking that one up -- thanks!
@@d-godfather Researching. Thanks again!
Get a separate tank, add Pea Puffers , the love snails 🐌
No=Planaria
I've been told this will kill those small snails.
Thanks, Danny.

My feather fin squeekers Cats love eating my Oscar’s shit, which they are greatly appreciated for there my garbage trucks
Lol
Take the plant pill!
