That was one of the greatest things I have ever seen. THANK YOU Pete for having the awareness to sit back and let Dennis take us on that fascinating ride. And when you did ask questions and speak it was spot on and awesome.
A Dennis interview is a lot like a great Styx album, a whole lot of variety, depth, fun, thoughtful, serious, contemplative content that is ultimately positive and hopeful. One minute he's a shrewd, in your face, blunt, matter of fact, slightly offensive vulgarian....to a deeply emotional, heart on his sleeve, loyal, dedicated, vulnerable and honest self-deprecating individual who brought a lot of joy to people's lives all around the world through his music, ambition and vision.
Well said. He's all that and more. I felt bad for Pete in parts because Dennis is a steamroller who puts you in your place while giving you love simultaneously! Good interview Pete. Im sure you had no idea what you were in for!!

Love Dennis- always enjoy his interviews. You never know where he will take the conversation. Get out and buy his albums. He enjoys a royal send off into "retirement". Would love to go to a Sox game with him!
I'm so glad you got him to talk about the Wooden Nickel stuff! It's stuff that even a lot of Styx fans aren't super familar with and I've never heard Dennis go into detail about before! Those albums are SO underrated! I love "You Need Love", "Father OSA", "The Grove of Eglantine", "Man of Miracles", and so much other stuff on those albums. It's sad that Dennis's negative experiences of making those albums have shaped his perception of them to such an extent. I've never heard him talk about them before and it's just really cool to get his perspective. In all honesty this might be the best interview with Dennis I've ever heard. You're asking him the real fan questions and he's willing to talk to you as a fan and not as just some generic music interviewer guy. So much really interesting stuff here I've never heard him talk about before!
I think it's Dennis's Chicago accent and his deadpan humor and tongue and cheek that makes you just want to sit down and have a 🍻 and listen to his stories. The best part also is there's no ego he speaks highly and fondly of Tommy and JY. so you cannot say he has a self-centered ego problem he does not. He's very outspoken being an ex teacher but he's also very brutally honest and he will tell it like it is. Once he realized this interview with Pete he could swear have fun laugh crack jokes he really opened up and I have a feeling both of these videos are going to blow up and views within the next few months once people sit down and watch the first 10 minutes and they're going to be enthralled.
Pete, what a fantastic interview and so much insight from Dennis throughout both segments. The thing that sticks with me, is that Dennis managed to articulate as well as he could the Styx breakup but looking at it from both sides. I feel like I have a little more closure on the Styx separation than I did prior to watching this. This was such an engaging interview - if I would nitpick it would be I would have liked to hear a little more about the Panozzo's. If you interview Dennis again I'd love to hear you ask more about them.
I love Dennis DeYoung’s sense of humor and genius in songwriting, showmanship and vocals!i saw Styx do their Mr. Roboto tour at the Palladium. I liked it though I just wanted to listen to another hour or so of their music, I also saw Dennis do a free concert in Massapequa and he was great then to in the early 2000’s!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️☮️☮️🎤🎼🎹
Pete I bet you didn't know how to react about a few things he said! He's a character! I didn't know he was part Italian and didn't know you were part Galician Spanish! Wow! Great interview. Thanks so much.
This interview was riveting. I couldn't wipe the smile from my face for the 2 and half hours. Took only one break because "I got the olds." Super honest and forthcoming, Dennis was a pleasure to listen to and laugh with. I think by far the best interview you've ever done. The second best was the one featuring Steve Lukether, With Annie Haslam coming in a close third. How are you going to beat this one Pete?

I think I've seen that. I have a bootleg CD of King Biscuit from 1975 that's excellent sounding and have found a Winterland performance from 1976 on youtube. Those are the earliest good live performances I've seen and heard. A shame.
Your very lucky to have seen that. A live audio recording of the Serpent tour from 1974 was posted on RUclips in recent times, and some are photos Chuck posted, such as JC with his ARP 2600 synth he used for sound effects. Dennis can tell some awesome stories! I love this interview because of the detail that he goes into. He also has a great grasp on musical history and telling us how those different types of music influenced him, Styx, and his solo stuff as well. I can also see how he might not be everyone’s cup of tea though. I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but sometimes that domineering personality can rub people the wrong way.
