As a Mexican American born in NYC, and started riding an Indian Motorcycle Scout at age 38. I have to say riding a motorcycle is the greatest feeling I have ever felt. Every ride is a new experience, being on the BQE going over 60 feels like freedom. Yes we have terrible drivers out here but if more people give up driving a car for driving a motorcycle they'll understand the true feeling on being out on the road.
Thank you ABC for painting a historic MC in a positive light, for once. To the Dragons, your contributions to the community at the MC level and at a local level will be remembered for generations.
It nice to see some posit stuff about Oakland . Only one thing old school Oakland people still call it East 14th not International Boulevard . Thank You for a look of some great people .
The L.A. Rattlers and The Choppers -- two other black clubs who should be remembered. Benny Whitfield's yellow Knucklehead chop would look great on the road today. Those NorCal-styled choppers have staying power. Thanks, ABC7, for creating and posting this video. Ride safe!

This is what it's all about! Nobody's killing nobody nobody's mother crying. Nobody's waisting away in a stinking cell being told when he can do this and that. Now! Let's build! 🤛🏾😎 🏍️
Great story, but looks like the Dragons need some you blood in there. Today's youth can use mentorships like this. Joining a club like this can provide that support.
Most American clubs are hard working Americans. Thanks for not painting it Racist, nor Gang. I am an Indy. Yet I have nothing but respect for clubs. They work hard.
💯💯💯Man what a remarkable story and an amazing club .I have been riding motorcycles for 10 years now and im so thankful I got into it .keep the rubber side down man
I met some guys from the Ebony Riders MC out east. These guys were a class act! I was the only white in that clubhouse and I was treated like a friend. My money was no good at the bar and I got drunk on everyone else’s money. Unfortunately I can’t say a black man would have been treated so well in some of the white MC houses I’ve known. Not bad, but suspicion…. There’s a lot that can be learned by stepping out of your comfort zone and meeting new friends. Who is going to Sturgis this year? I will be at the lamphere aug 2-5th.
It's cool. When this club started, they were risking their lives riding Harley-Davidsons. They had to hang together. I'm from Sturgis, SD, I remember see black guys dragged off their bikes and beaten badly. Right on Main Street, and in the city park. Today, a black biker in Sturgis doesn't get a second look. Unless she happens to be an attractive young lady, of course.
Very American Thats the beauty of the merger riding with Sonny and the Hells Angels. Had it not been for segregation and racism that would have never formed .They did some great community activism. You missed the point of this historical club.
@@feraynor205 Something that most outsiders never gave these guys credit for was their taste in bikes and their skills In building them. If you look at Mr Whitfield's Knucklehead that's in this video, that thing is not different than what I would build today. Except today, a Knucklehead engine is $15k or more and out of my league
You have to know the history of riding custom Harleys in the 60s and 70s. I saw black guys dragged off their bikes, their bikes taken, and them beaten nearly to death. These guys liked each other. They trusted each other. They had to hang together to survive. My friend, a white guy who was an OG in the SoCal chopper scene spoke highly of guys like Sugar Bear and Mr. Whitfield. He respected their courage and their style in custom motorcycles. They couldn't, and can't be Hell's Angels. A white guy can't be a Dragon. But they can meet at an event and get along and that's all that's expected of civilized humans.

What community?
I've had many great times there; at the clubhouse when they've had dances, community events. "Defy the stereo-type" Great guys.
I can't believe this guy is 80 years old

The Chosen Few as well. Got to meet Tobie Gene at one of our events before he passed, he was a great man! Much respect to the Dragons.

My friend, Patrick Leahy, a SoCal chopper OG, spoke highly of these guys. He respected their style in custom bikes greatly.
Well done, I appreciate this story.

Sadly all clubs are going through it. Today’s youth can’t handle the responsibilities of being in a real brotherhood.
It’s true people don’t want to prospect, they don’t understand what breaking down the ego is. They would rather join an RC.
Them some cool peeps.Riding motorcycles with your buddies is the best.Keep the rubber side down friends.
BIG RESPECT
Most American clubs are hard working Americans. Thanks for not painting it Racist, nor Gang.
I am an Indy. Yet I have nothing but respect for clubs. They work hard.
You won't see a better looking Knucklehead than the one that Bennie had, Holy Mackerel !...
That is a nice bike.
fact. That thing is exquisite.
What a cool club . Im an old rocker from London and embrace all bikers in brotherhood.

Mr Whitfield's Knucklehead is exquisite.
A motorcycle club based on the colour of your skin. How American is that. 🙃

If its an all black club who is the white guy with the sun glasses on in the 1962 photo?
he was a researching sickle cell.
I like black motorcycles.
They absolutely are not the oldest MC from the West.
Ayyy ok hells angels ✊🏿
1948 in Oakland, California Hells Angels was founded the oldest in Oakland, California so you intro title needs to be fixed.
they were founded in southern california
Research it’s not hard
Are they black?
I'm pretty sure Oakland started 4-1-1957
OK, now do a story about the oldest white motorcycle club in California without it being a racist hit piece.
I get it, wouldn't fit your narrative.
Kick rocks
They the ones who chose to nor allow blacks, and wear swasikas
You all invited to family cookout on your manor of being the best
funny, but cool
Ask the Dragons where's the safest place to put me 😎

Excellent I love it LIK DAT B1 family 🦾💯
