Even as a kid, I felt a sort of bittersweet element to the closing theme. It had a feeling of taking the train and leaving this wonderful place, but knowing you'd return there someday.
Kid from the early 2000's generation here; I felt that same feeling, but even worse, with the ending for Teletubbies. Every time the ending for Teletubbies played, I would always cry really hard as a child. And even to this day, it still makes me sad. It doesn't make me cry like it used to, just sad.
@Shadowsmaman, I remeber feeling the same way as a child when I watched this show with my father. here I am, a father myself, I found Shining Time Station episodes on RUclips and myself, my dad and my children watched the show. My dad had tears in his eyes as he remembered making that memory with me, it was my turn to make that memoy with my children. I hope that when they have kids of their own, they too, will go back and watch this show with their children
it feels like I've been transported back to the 90s and reliving my childhood growing up in that era as a kid and gives me that comforting warm feeling of nostalgia and escapism
My special needs son does too! It sometimes makes him cry 😢😭 because he says it is full of nostalgia and maybe causes you to ask yourself, Oh why can't things be the way they were before? Why couldn't they stay the same?
27 years old, I don't have memories of shining time station but nonetheless this music brings me back to simpler times ..I should look for my wooden train collection
I just got the Lionel legacy Union Pacific 844 black steam locomotive with a Bluetooth from my dad this year since my birthday and it was the greatest big birthday present I ever had in all my life.

@@RailheadProductions I will always love it, when ever I noticed the magic railroad it brings me up to that song
*Interesting fact:* The train known as the "Rainbow Sun" is a Union Pacific 844 locomotive.
The trains location from the opening and ending was in Wilcox Arizona
It's cool to see the UP#844 on route.

Same, everytime I see it this song pops into my head lol
2:29 end credits.
I think the slowed down version you're referring to is a different version sung around the end of the show's life cycle.
