Petition for an hour long metaspencer video! Keep up the great work man !!
One hour! woah! I may have to ask the ground crew for help on that one :)
Good to see you back Spencer. Your two passengers look like they wanted to stop for an ice cream on the way home.
Yeah their first vote was the Burger King drive thru :)
Gotta love the small job stack
Excellent video.. totally agree with you about small jobs and referrals . Its funny when you underbid a job and work your butt off , those people never seem to give you any referrals.
You said it ... quality work for good pay is where it's at
Looks like a nice little "switch off" day.
I cherish the small jobs like that when I can find them. But my favorite, big drops and the customer elects to clean it up, in out and good moolah
You said it: drop 'em and head on back to the shop :)
Good video.
Love me some bread and butter jobs.. especially if access is good and I can leave the the firewood where it falls.
absolutely!
This man is very cool 😎
This is the ONLY size jobs I want to do. Looking to start my biz soon doing smaller jobs involving tree car, invasive removals, and native landscaping projects.
You're gonna do great out there man -- lots of companies won't do the smaller stuff leaving lots of $$$ on the table, and some good quality work to be done
So so true. I love a small job
The super referrer 😂. Never thought about that aspect of the small job but it makes perfect sense!
Also! This video definitely filled a gap in my knowledge when it comes to hard back leaning smaller diameter felling!!! I never considered the 1/4 back cut method to get wedges started without the tree sitting back! Genius!!! Thank you man
Yeah I use that 1/4 back cut to set the wedge but keep the tree nice and stable ... not much room to work on those little devils :) good hearing from ya man
It doesn't get much better than the title of this video.💵💰
Everyone is meeting me there😂
Super referrer is a great concept!
When you hook into someone like that it's really amazing
I as someone who does solo Tree Work as well, I love your channel! So much good information, and so applicable to what I do! Keep the good content coming
Another solo guy! good to hear man ... stay happy, safe, satisfied, and well paid out there :)
Love the videos Spencer, I hope everything has been fantastic
I’m not sure how you were able to clean that first tree up so fast!!! 😱 must have been the new mini skid
@@redbeardtree1776 🤔
hahahaha! almost had to call the helicopter in ...
Thanks! I needed this video!!
Keep moving forward man! thanks for the note
Love your Videos.! Keep them coming!
thanks buddy!
Would love to have that truck and trailer set up lol
it's been working well for me for sure ... solid and capable of A LOT of good work
Love your videos from Handyman to tree work! You tell great stories:)
Thanks man! you made my Saturday morning for sure :)
Spencer: 10/10. Ground Crew:0/10.
As slack as your ground crew is no wonder you love small jobs!🤣🤣🤣
haha you said it!
Nice work Spencer. Hope you and the family are well. Take care.
Thanks! great hearing from ya :)
Nice thoughts! Love smallies.....
absolutely :)
I couldn't agree with you more! Thanks for the video.
thanks man
Glad to see you.
Love the small jobs. As you said they add up and the referrals are worthwhile.
Great job & stay safe
good hearing from ya man
Thank you
I love your dogs. Thanks for adding them to today’s small-jobs video.
It's always great to have them ride along!
I think you get nice referrals because you're a nice dude and you do a nice job!
I always thought it was the puppy dogs, but I like your perspective :)
Enjoyed the video. Love the Echo DCS-2500T. A great limbing saw. It's kind of a hidden gem in the climbing world.
Agreed -- great little saw for limbing. Plus, it makes some customers super happy
I had a bunch of work on my house: trees, roof then paint.
That's the way to do it!
Nice video, you seem super knowledgeable. The small jobs are where its at!! I live in an area with beach towns, its small jobs galore! And while the big guys are all off shore taking care of the monsters, they're leaving all the little scraps jobs to the rodents like me! A pick up and a dump trailer with no over head cost = nice paychecks. Cool video man.
Sounds familiar and great man
Awesome video! Great message. Loved it!
Thanks buddy! I got a call for a cat rescue the other day ... then a few hours later the kitty climbed down on its own. So still on my list for something to accomplish! :)
@@metaspencer Nice. That's how it goes sometimes. You're on the way though! I had to abort a rescue last night due to rain/sunset/and some discovered significant decay. Will return when it dries out if it's still stuck. In a massive, very compromised, 150 year old maple. First time having to shut it down. It ended up being a good thing that I totally got my throwline complelely stuck, and ended up climbing up the owners 40' extension ladder to cut it out, which put me at eye level with this huge decay pocket that affected the remaining highest lead I was hoping to use.
@@judsonkimble Once the ladders come out, things get REAL real fast! :)
Those little battery Echo top handles are awesome! I use mine for most trim jobs...it absolutely HATES Minnesota winters but other than that...
Yeah I ended up keeping the batteries in the house all winter and when I brought it out to play in cold temps it didn't last long. But a great saw on warmer days for sure
Husq batteries are the same with the cold. My 0,7kwh ecoflow power bank needs a 45min drive with the heat on full blast before it will even consider taking a charge - everybody I know brings their batteries inside to charge/store overnight in the winter.
good job stay safe.
Thanks buddy
Let’s go!
That was a mighty fine video.
I am suffering from chainsaw envy as my wife won't let me get one.
I cut down a 30ft pine tree in December and a 35 year old Bush (limbs as thick as a tree trunk) at the weekend, with a reciprocating saw, for my mother-in-law.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers
Michael (from Scotland)
A reciprocating saw! Now that job would make a mighty fine video ... I'd like to watch it! Good job doing it ... your wife is a smart woman and you are one determined man
Small jobs are great.
You betcha man
Thankyou
Thanks for showing your good work! I am personally aiming mostly for the small jobs, that is perfect for single operations and beeing independent. Greetings from wet germany.
Sounds like a good plan! good hearing from you friend
In France, we talk about "Bouche à oreille", literally translated "Mouth to ear". That’s the best way to get good customers very quickly, they’re the best at advertising.
More good work done 👍
I love that expression Bouche à oreille ... my French is horrible and has offended many ears in France, but I like the expression :)
@@metaspencer You didn’t hear my accent when I speak English 😁
Awesome man great job and great talk about the small jobs r exactly gold mines to small guys great words and truth of wisdom way to stay humble cheers my friend stay safe always enjoy u and your content 💪👍🤙
Thanks buddy! I hope you're having some good times out there
As a solo operator, I approve of this message.
Solo operator! Woop!
It's about the climbing, the gear, the methods and the blinker fluid:)
You said it: all of those elements need to be in perfect balance :)
Hello from the Netherlands.
thanks for the video Spencer .
Sincerely Hollandduck
thanks buddy
Intrepid arborist traverses raging torrent... 🤣 Good points, well made. Can't knock the bread-and-butter jobs.
I should have checked my insurance policy before crossing that raging stream :)
@@metaspencer Ugh, lucky ye made it. The local press would've had a field day. Emergency services called... ;)
(Had to correct the previous comment. No idea what a "brand and butter job" is.🤪)
Now make sure ye top up them blinker fluids 🤣 I suck at maintenance.
Yessir, yesterday i completed a small job over a phone pic, $350. Started the job at 9:00. Completed the job, then the neighbor had work.. left by 11:00 with $750. Can’t beat the small jobs
That’s what I’m talking about! Excellent
Agree 💯 👌
All my tree work is small and selective. It's a side hustle for now, no company, just word of mouth references from the previous job before. :)
sounds interesting and like it's probably pretty fulfilling
I also like 3 easy jobs more than one big one for the same money... but I don't run away from a big job either because I love it :)
It sounds like we think the same way about things ... good to see your recent projects
@@metaspencer thank you very much... it will be better to see your project that I suggested to you for the branches :)
I was sad when you said you were taking down a plum, but luckily, that looked like a non-native cherry plum, so you're good...lol.
You are the master of the native and non-native species! I offered to lift it a few feet and build a cradle for it ... but the homeowners thought the old saw-job was the way to go
@@metaspencer I only recognized it because I have native plum and just found a sapling of the cherry plum over in the bog while pulling callery pear, honeysuckle, and mulberry.
Great business savy, love the fact that you don't have to rely on employees, I have some great ones but.........
How did the heater work this winter? Any problems?
It's great to be able to employ people, but you know how there is another side to it too :) ... we'll be posting a end-of-season-review of the heater soon. it's been really amazing in so many ways!
small jobs = substantially less overhead, liability, and risk of injury. The small ones are the best (unless you get complacent and use a polesaw and a 35 foot orchard ladder)
you said it man ... but now I want that 35' ladder! :)
How much do you pay to dump per trailer load? Thanks.
Our town charges by the ton, but we've got enough land that I tend to find other alternatives for the brush
absolutely. stackem up and reap the rewards. PS I now have a full time job and will be parking the handyman dealio under my experience belt. sometimes you have to weigh up the pro's and cons, and for me, cons of a fixed income outweighed the freedom of self employment by a buck sixty.
That sounds like a cool change! Nothing wrong with full time and the stability has gotta be great. Less doubt and wondering where the next paycheck is coming from. Thanks for the update buddy
Dude 🧉 u Rock 🥌 ur , the river crossing 🚸 was, for me , Hilarious, I'm easily amused anyways, but I totally agree 💯 w/You, where u live, u Hiring, I'm in Ohio, I'm an Arborist of 40 yrs, BE CAREFUL and ALWAYS KEEP UR WITTS ABOUT YOU!
thanks for the positive vibes!
Ah, no ground crew, no bucket truck! Just a lone tree wrangler!
I know what you mean about the super referrer (I am one lol). People who live by the "find a need and fill it" philosophy turn into caretakers of others, always offering help. It's a feel good, mission accomplished thing and can get to be an unhealthy compulsion. Still, when it's the right thing to do it's great!
I had a super referrer in my real estate business, then she got her license and started helping people she would have referred to me! Ha!
That's ok though, it's like the ultimate referral - do such a good job that people want to do what you do!
Thanks for another swell video with chuckles and suspense. Metasuspense! Ha! 🎉😂
Those references are solid gold! It makes sense that real estate has a lot of word-of-mouth references ... good to hear :)
I love small jobs. You can knock 3-4 in a day and make a weeks wages in 8 hours.
You said it
Ahhhhhhhhhhh no yellow submarine 😂... There's always next time...
I'll have to save up for some gas :)
Still want to collaborate with you sometime pal!
Absolutely!
I like your discussion of super referrers. I hate the question on so many satisfaction surveys of how likely are you to recommend our company to family or friends. Not being a super referrer, I tend to say not very even it I liked the product or service.
I'm the same way: I'll really like a business but respond that there is NO WAY in the world that I'll refer anyone to them, because that's not my style :) Glad to know another non-referrer haha
Best jobs are 4 no clean up jobs in a day!!!
Oh yeah, you said it
Is that truck tuned? Chipped? Anything?
Close to stock … deleted and plenty of work done on it myself over the years. Story on how I got it here on the channel
@@metaspencer awesome man love them older fords, 7.3?
6.0 … great truck for sure
I have an idea for you if your interested in taking the next step. The Alpine Magnum stump grinder. Check that out and let me know what you think.
Looks like an interesting tool ... I've ground a few stumps over the years but found myself daydreaming a bit too much. I'm just not cut out for it!
@@metaspencerI can understand that. I myself think I will enjoy it when it gets here.
@@masonfarley640 cool to hear you ordered one! woohoo!
@@metaspencer Thanks man!
Ive recently started a small tree removal/storm damage service and I do agree with the small jobs. I took two small jobs that other tree services never got back to the customers (small dollar jobs) so I took them and they were SO happy I took it, that they recommended me to others its interesting. Its like they were so grateful someone cleaned their yard up they were more than willing to recommend to others.
I know just what you mean: that satisfaction level can be very high on the small jobs, especially when other company refused to bid the work. Good luck with that business! watch it grow
Heidi ho buddy
Heidi ho!
Got my insurance a million dollar policy for 65$ llc done ein number dun an brad street number done ordered through I line trying to build the buisness credit I don’t have the best personal trying to get where I don’t need a PG I need equipment bad I’m a climber I took your advice I did some jobs for free and got 2 small jobs this weekend one to too a maple for 175 bucks for an older lady another to drop a spruce tree for 250 no cleanup trying to just get my name out there got some buisness cards on the way I’m going around on the weekends when I’m not at my day job (I do line clearance) for a poop company until I can get the ball rolling but I’m going around looking for dead trees and over grown trees land clearance and leaving my card my main thing right now is I need a truck and trailer I’m using a family members when I have jobs and it’s just a hassle sometimes
Sounds like you're moving forward! Work slow, carefully, and deliberately ... things will snowball if you do good work. Someone once told me the most profitable tool in tree work is the rake ... clean up well at the end and people are happy :)
@@metaspencer yes sir thanks for the encouragement be safe man 🤙🏼
That was a horrible face cut on that first tree. You left way too much hinge. It couldn't break away.
😂
AND the back cut was sadly out of alignment! hideous! :)
@@metaspencer you'll get better lol
@@ScottWConvid19 we can only hope 🙏🤣
Im a solo operator landscapeing and light excavating.. the majority of my work compromises of the work the bigger companies dont want to mess with. Some call it scraps, i call it good quick money. I can do 100k easy in a year foing just small jobs
good to hear! yeah, the "scraps" can be really excellent. we're on the same page
