Very impressive work Spencer. You're one of the hardest working arborists I've ever seen. The only ones who come close are your ground crew. 22 trees in five days is unbelievable. How many trips to the dump was that? We'll probably be seeing you in an Energizer Bunny commercial soon.

Alot of times I work alone! But there come days where I need a hand like that tree by the house! if you had a helper you could speed line the top of that tree back towards the yard. In the end of the day you get more accomplished with just one guy with you. Just keep that in mind.

Don't you love it when the neighbor comes out right as shit is about to get real. Never forget I had 2 trucks, gear all over, a bunch of cones blocking the sidewalk and I am Juuust about to fall a large maple tree when this older couple comes walking down the sidewalk. I literally had to run over to them and stop them from continuing their walk or they would have walked right into the falling tree.
Oh man, it never fails: gotta erect 10' electric fence around the job site or something :) Stay safe out there bud

I must say mad props to you for tackling a job like this and doing it all solo. You don’t see work ethic like that these days. I know everyone’s situation is different but I’d invest in a chipper to tackle the brush. Even a used one is better than nothing.
Yeah that job was pretty epic -- thanks for the kind words, man. yeah I've got my eye out for a chipper. the last one I looked at was leaking oil like it was maple syrup pouring free! crazy. one will show up eventually I'm thinking

Funny you should say that: I was thinking about doing a RAW video on this one since it ended up being about a 40 minute removal ... but I had to swap batteries out a few times and it didn't seem right. But great idea. Thanks man

Yeah I use this steel one from Petzl amzn.to/3xzUtqr ... ya gotta be careful of that gate for sure and there are some safer ways to do it for sure

It ended up being about 4 or 5 days of work, but stretched out over two weeks since we had some crazy storms that kept me away. So yeah: it was a long one! Glad to be done :)

it was a bit of a doozy "Which tree am I in now?" ... the 2511t has started to sputter and die every now and then. I'll have to give it a good going over back in the shop. Zip ties are holding on the brake but otherwise it seems intact

I recently bought some spikes and it feels like there is a lot of pressure on the inside of my leg and my ankles were pushing out, not sure if I just need to adjust them or what. I was wondering if you could give me a little advice on what to do. Thanks
I know what you mean: that can be very uncomfortable. It's either 1) the adjustment on the spikes, or 2) the design of the spikes themselves. Try adjusting the length between the spur and the top strap and that might help ... if not, try adjusting the straps and/or pads themselves. Some people get replacement pads or new straps, depending on the situation. Ya gotta be comfortable up there!

When working up a bid for a job like this one, and even with smaller jobs, I take my cost-per-day for the business and then try to estimate how long the job will take. It's crude but seems to work out okay
I hope that was like a 10k job but my gut tells me that wouldn't fly.

It was a few years ago so prices have changed a lot, but I tend to quote jobs like this by my (daily rate)x(the estimated number of days). Thinking back I think it was in the $7k-$9k range but I'm not great when it comes to remembering prices. What I DO REMEMBER from that job is that it was excellent work.

@@laneherrlinger7478 These days up over a grand but I flex my prices quite a bit because I like doing discounted or free jobs for people on low or limited budgets

I'd say between 8 and 9 grand
It was in that ballpark ... I believe other quotes had been twice that amount so the gal was happy to have me do it. Lots of work and a great payday.
I hate neighbor guys.
They always come out at the most opportune times to tell you how to do your job, or ask how you are doing your job, or tell you how they would do your job, or complain about the noise, the truck/s, parking, or the best one their property line...........
I initially treat them like as if they are my customer. Answer questions as quickly as possible, address their concerns, but once I go past that, I tell them blatantly that they are not my customer. If they wish to reserve my services, I would be happy to speak with them after completing the work on my current customers property.
I tell them to have a nice day, advise them if they stay in the area I cannot guarantee their safety, then get back to work.

How much do you pay to dump each load of wood? I also don’t have a chipper and am getting tired of the dump fees.
Oh man, dumping fees are crazy high around here. And the thing is that our city's landscape recycling center never charges exactly the same thing. So a load can be anywhere from $50 to $100.
about 30 yrs ago, a tornado knocked a chinese elm down into my space and a stihl chainsaw fell off a truck and landed in my space too. when i was done my visiting uncle from rural massachusetts had a present wrapped in a blanket gifted to him upon his departure from my space. shortly after returning to ames country, a nor'eastern hit his space and knocked down about 22 trees. you think he would call me and say thanks, i needed that chainsaw. crickets. pass it on, even if its a one way pass, and a hot potato

So curious what you charged for this job.
It came to a good chunk of change -- can't remember the exact total. When bidding multi-day jobs I just multiply my daily rate (cost of doing business) by the estimated days it'll take.
Just curious of why you do not have a Chipper. I been watching your videos and you have some really perfect jobs for one.
Great question. I’ll rent one sometimes but with one guy it would mean a different truck setup. Plus I’m not keen on the expense and maintenance. My business glow is great and profitable so I just don’t see the value added
@metaspencer o with your setup there would be great value of owning 1 I have 2 a big one and a small commercial 1 for the smaller jobs. And wood I burn for I cannot even give it away and chips sell out.
Man I see you doing jobs I would love to be doing. I seem to get all the dangerous trees that must be thought out. You do so many cut and drops thats awesome. Mine seems to be hanging over top of everything. Keep up the good work and keep your videos going. I enjoy them when it's pouring down rain like it is today.
Interesting!@@dmarshall1964 ... I've heard that from lots of other guys so I'm not surprised it works for you. So do you run a chip truck with the chipper? And do you roll solo on all your jobs? And do you also haul a mini to the jobs? Those are the things that keep me questioning getting a chipper
@metaspencer all of the above you ask , I have alot of equipment and many size trailers to haul multiple pieces depending on the jobs. As a matter of fact I just purchased a new commercial chipper and awaiting the call to come pick it up and try it out. With your green trailer you could sideways your mini and load up a small chipper . The work I see you doing a chipper once you have it you would question how did I go so long without it.

I tend to quote jobs by multiplying my daily rate (for the business to run, etc.) x the time I expect the job will take. It's a pretty simple formula and tends to work out. As for this specific job, I don't recall the $$$ number

Hey I know u don't have a chipper but on jobs of this size would I t be worth the rent you? Idk if there any local business that rent equipment? Or idk how other tree guys around you are but maybe talk to them see what they charge just to chip. I know it sucks to pay your profit out but if you can knock all the brush and alot of th at wood in 4 or 5 hours seems like a win. Trust me I know Iv done jobs like that an hauled it all by hand.
I hear ya man: especially on a job like this where there is easy access, a chipper would save on trips! I haven't bought one as I'm not into the repair bills and upkeep, but that was A LOT of brush on that one! LOL ... thanks man!
