i have mad respect for the classics, because i genuinely feel like they still deserve peoples time to this day, especially the people who missed out on em
I loved this game a lot. It is a very honorable game. I wish newer games had this kind of effort put into them. There's variety and everything is just fun.
It's because it's the best execution of the genre from the word go. You can stop playing for years and pick it back up like nothing has been lost. Modern versions of it have a constant barrage of FOMO to try to keep people playing, but all it does is make people drop the game entirely once they take a break for longer than a couple months. The loot and cards don't actually add anything to the games besides a skinner box, and people tend to get annoyed with those once they realize they're being manipulated.
Years ago, when l4d was released, I used to host a community server since I wasn't 18 and couldn't just buy it. I remember spending all day trading items in TF2 to get enough to buy the game from another player. That is also how I bought every single game, ever. So, at one point some people actually joined and they were asking me to spawn stuff for them, then I figured out sv_cheats 1 would allow them to do so themselves. I had fun from watching their in game chat. That's how good this game was. L4d2 is basically all that and more. Especially with the mods. Ranging from hentai to just fun. New mechanics, everything. Skins, new weapons, name it. There is not a valve game I dislike. And this comes from the dude with 600 TF2 accounts. (premium) Worlds cannot describe how much I appreciate Valve for their hard work.
That’s amazing! Hope the game is still fun for you. I’m 14 and I heard about this gem, I bought it 2 years ago and this is still my favorite horde shooter, this will always be a game I come back to.
5:00 wonder who that jockey player is... Great video as always, loved that intro and can't wait to see that Deep Rock Galactic video soon. Keep doing you king 👑
I honestly have had way more fun watching gameplay of Left 4 Dead than I ever did playing Back 4 Blood. I put at least 100 hours in that game hoping it would scratch the itch but it never did for me.
I played though every campaign on expert mode when the game came out which wasn't the greatest experience, because sometimes people shoot you in the face. Beating Swamp Fever on expert mode is probably the hardest thing I've ever done in gaming. The fact that game is now 14 years old makes me feel really really old.
One time my lobby somehow got the hack where you crouch and you speed through everything, and you one shot everything.. did it for every campaign on expert and I got the realism achievo too! after I got both achievos the hack just randomly disappeared. It felt like a blessing 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The last time i played L4D was like 2009ish. I just picked it back up again after i got a gaming PC and just found out about custom campaigns. There's custom campaigns out there that are just as good as the official ones!
The VS. Mode community may be sometimes be a joke these days, but with the straight-forward, yet intricately tuned mechanics; the memorable campaigns & endlessly charming protagonists, it’s a game that never fails in cheering me up. And our endless wellspring & devine gift from Gabe himself that is: The Steam Workshop. (~ still a bit scorned the Last Stand update permanently disabled workshop addons in vs. mode tho [at least on proper servers].)
First time play this in 2013 on my cousin's laptop. I thought this was just a typical zombie shooting game that actually turns out to be a masterpiece. Love it till today
This is pretty much the only game I play. You can jump in and out of a game at anytime and leave feeling satisfied with your time spent playing it. There’s nothing to gain and nothing to lose, just a purely fun game to entertain you for as long as you spend playing it. It really is one of the only games I can think of that relieves stress for me. I don’t like to compete, grind, or dick around with customizations (I’m looking at you, card system from B4B). I play video games to have fun, and that’s all I get out of Left 4 Dead. People want a L4D3 and I would love that as well, but if something is good enough, just be happy it exists, there’s no need to wish for more when you have everything you need.
this vid perfectly captures the casual play with friends gameplay, not rly focused on the competitive aspect just the sheer fun aspect whilst explaining the game itself as a whole
Hey new sub here. Saw your DRG video first (Rock and stone, brother) and came over to look at this old classic. Great video! I'm sure I'm only the 200th person to mention it but if you're looking for games that were very directly inspired by L4D and can, if you're being very uncharitable and reductive, almost be called L4D reskins then I'd suggest Vermintide 2 for that medieval fantasy take on the genre and honestly before playing it I never realized just how endearing of a character the enemies can have when they're not mindless grunting zombies but adorable, murderous rat boys (and friends) who actually talk back at you. For a sci-fi gothic take you could try Darktide, the newer game by the same studio. It has some issues with progression right now but man if the atmosphere and core gameplay loop isn't fantastic. The biggest mix-up to the formula that game adds is probably the fact that there's lots of enemies who actually shoot back at you instead of try to claw your face off.

Forgot to tell about the awesome songs in this game, also the audio makes a big difference to give your team warnings of the dangers ahead and enhancing the co-op gameplay.

I wanna take this chance to remind y'all of one of the many reasons I've lost faith in Valve over the years: complete lack of management. L4D3 was already in the works. Entire first chapter completed, knew what direction they wanted to take it, assets made/reused for alpha & beta testing. So what happened? Internal disagreement over whether the project should be in the Unreal engine (or Unity, one of those Un-engines) or be one of the first new games in Source2. The team was split 50/50 on this decision, and since they couldn't agree...they stopped. That's it. They just stopped the moment a single dispute came up because Valve lacks management to see a job to completion.
This game will forever be the king of zombie co-op shooters, i have just too many fond memories of this back on the xbone and got to relive it a good bit on pc

"You need teammates" And then you see a random on youtube parkouring his way out of a full campaign taking no damage without the help of any player nor bot(they kill bots at the start)... well, I guess this people had 14 years to master that...

i remember getting really excited when i first saw Left 4 Dead in the game informer. been playing it ever since. in fact, it makes for a good fall-back game when im tired of playing other games.
The campaign section of the workshop isn't filled with campaigns and is filled with anime mods which I hate so much. And speaking of that the L4D2 workshop has barley any good content as of late, sure there are some good mods but most of it is just the same anime girl but with less articles of clothing each time.
I'd say vermintide 2 got a similar result in quality with the medieval fantasy feeling instead of the urban dystopia, but it's no as widely spread. Still, can't deny left 4 dead is still the goat on legacy alone
ong the gameplay whilst sometimes laggy and buggy is so fun everything is unique and the music bro is goated ive played L4D2 on and off since 2009 and in 2023 at 18 still playing it and with pc mods it makes the fun last longer
The ultimate L4D2 co-op experience: modded server with unlocked player count, tons of custom maps, points ranking system, random loot drops on special zombie kill, jet-pack mod... and soundboard for lolz.
for folks looking for anything to scratch a similar itch, try vermintide 2. it's medieval fantasy, and more melee focused, but has left 4 dead's mission structure, essentially. The game is often on sale as well. the progression system is kind of grindy tho, takes awhile to get all characters to max lvl. also no versus mode
What makes l4d2 so amazing is that it feels like a genuine fun, complete product. It released at a time where online multiplayer was maturing but before the current player retention/gaas nonsense. I love that I can just turn the game on and start playing without long tutorials, challenges, or store crap pestering me. Really wish valve would release it on current gen with 4K/120, cross play, and some form of mod support like Bethesda titles. I’d pay full price

@@kingol4801 I guess every zombie game has to be the exact same?
Also mind that the L4D zombies aren't actually "undead", its a virus that basically turns people into rabid animals, but they don't clinically die. It doesn't make most of then any harder to kill than a regular person. Think 28 days later.
"Project Zomboid or Dead Island 2 are miles and miles above in terms of being a “zombie” game."
Project Zomboid is excellent, yes; but why the actual fuck would you recommend dead island 2 lmao
Left 4 Dead will always be one of my favorite games- truly is timeless and it always makes me happy to see it get the love it deserves :,)
if i even introduced ONE new person to this game, this video has succeeded in my eyes, such a quality game. hope you enjoyed the vid!
Gotta agree
The amount of times I screamed NO at the saferoom door shenanigans like I was back there is ridiculous 😂
I never thought i'd be old enough to watch a video explaining l4d2 mechanics and why its a good game.
a surprising amount of people i know my age have never touched this game, which is actually criminal. hopefully it was still enjoyable to watch even if you’ve already played!
Ever since i picked up l4d2 i haven’t been able to put it down since. Definitely an all time classic
That intro reminded me of the indomitable Texan spirit. Thank you kelski for this wonder masterpiece!
LOL, thanks for watching Nen 🤝
reminded me of Cod Zombies mob of the dead
The intro is what it feels like to shoot common infected in expert realism
You really nailed this review top to bottom. It hit all the major points. It is a ridiculous shame we have no true sequel.
This game has been a childhood nostalgia for me. I remember playing it when I when 6 or 7 years old and I still remember playing it. If I ever have a old console or a pc I would download this game the moment I have the chance
After completing all the campaigns on expert for the achievement I remember how much fun left 4 dead 2 is no matter how long it is you keep coming back (I really hate the jockey ai tho)
L4d2 seems to have more players now then even just a couple years ago. I saw a monster of a list of lobbies the other weekend. Amazing game.
it is so well deserved too!
Fun fact: has a positive community and comments on the game and also unique this is why this game was still alive thx for the custome maps made by the creative community and challenges and modes also versus so basically it's the perfect zombie game in my eyes.
So true, this game is alive because of valve’s behaviors towards mods
man i’m glad this game is still getting recognized, i literally grew up grinding all the achievements with my dad and now that i have my own pc i still get on this game alot
i have mad respect for the classics, because i genuinely feel like they still deserve peoples time to this day, especially the people who missed out on em
Now that we have Source 2 (HL: Alyx & SC2) there is now a non-0% chance of L4D3.
Let's take a moment to bask in this glorious game and all the memories we made playing this.
🙏
I loved this game a lot. It is a very honorable game. I wish newer games had this kind of effort put into them. There's variety and everything is just fun.
back when games had pure love and passion poured into them
Try Deep Rock Galactic mate
@@clayman_nhd looks fun I guess.
The word go?
(premium)
Worlds cannot describe how much I appreciate Valve for their hard work.
That’s amazing! Hope the game is still fun for you. I’m 14 and I heard about this gem, I bought it 2 years ago and this is still my favorite horde shooter, this will always be a game I come back to.
And now you can play it in VR which is one hell of an experience.
Bro the clip of the zombie not going down is so nostalgic hahaahaha
Another banger in the "Never die" series
glad it was a worthy addition, thanks KING 👑
I have two friends that never play games that are more then two years old because "They have bad graphics" God i hate them.
5:00 wonder who that jockey player is...
Great video as always, loved that intro and can't wait to see that Deep Rock Galactic video soon. Keep doing you king 👑
a scary jockey indeed… thanks for watching king👑
That zombie at the beginning looked like it was getting down with its bad self
Valve has a habit of making unkillable games
The game is so good there's still new players joining and that creates some frustrating and funny as hell gameplays
thats how you KNOW this game is timeless
Left 4 Dead will always be the GOAT
FACT
I honestly have had way more fun watching gameplay of Left 4 Dead than I ever did playing Back 4 Blood. I put at least 100 hours in that game hoping it would scratch the itch but it never did for me.
*cue two buff guys epically uniting forces by holding hands*
TF2: "Apes together strong."
Left 4 Dead was one of the first games I played online, so it has always had a weird place in my heart.
i remember playing the first game for the first time, it was such a magical experience
The last time i played L4D was like 2009ish. I just picked it back up again after i got a gaming PC and just found out about custom campaigns. There's custom campaigns out there that are just as good as the official ones!
After 14 years this game is still so goddamn fun.
Missed opportunity to name the video "Why Left 4 Dead 2 will never be left 2 die"
The VS. Mode community may be sometimes be a joke these days, but with the straight-forward, yet intricately tuned mechanics; the memorable campaigns & endlessly charming protagonists, it’s a game that never fails in cheering me up.
And our endless wellspring & devine gift from Gabe himself that is:
The Steam Workshop.
(~ still a bit scorned the Last Stand update permanently disabled workshop addons in vs. mode tho [at least on proper servers].)
i’ll have to cover mods in a separate video! i can’t believe how many timeless bangers valve has made, it’s incredible
@@kel_ski Bangers indeed.
Indeeders my bang.
Yeah, can't see my teammate's health points anymore.
Also corn in my eyes.
I remember playing this and tbh it was the best gaming moments I've ever had not everyone was toxic and actually had fun
L4D 2 is a masterpiece
Mods are the icing on a sublime cake 🎂
Yeah even after I've gotten the majority of achievos.. I still go back to have fun on chat or troll people.. or just play some good rounds.
No dailies or weeklies. Nothing to work towards. No BS progression. Just pure enjoyment
If l4d3 still isnt around in the next 15 years, im creating it my darn self
You can
Left 4 Bread is for real the best co-op game i ever played.
my favorite special infected is the Baker, right after the Slicer 🍞
That video at the start gave me so much nostalgia
I'm getting a 2500 dollar PC just because of this game
honestly, totally justified
U could literally play this game on a £20 system
for a old game...thr graphics and gameplay are WOW
I never skip that intro. It’s just so good.
i loved making it
That intro brought back so much memories
You never stop playing Left 4 Dead 2. You simply take a break for few months or 2-3 years then come back
this vid perfectly captures the casual play with friends gameplay, not rly focused on the competitive aspect just the sheer fun aspect whilst explaining the game itself as a whole
That 12:34 common infected slap made me spit my drink.
I remember finding a room full of Tanks!! I had a mini heart attack that time cause 2 of my ppl was dead and we was low on supplies.
bro opened the door and got hit with the “we’ll be right back” 😭
1:01 I can’t even front, Ghostbusters The Video Game was legit a great game and had a fun Multiplayer that for some reason is still active on the Xbox 360.
Has to get off topic because Ghostbusters the Video Game is a great game and has a fun story, hope you cover it one day.
i would actually love to make a ghostbusters video honestly haha, i’ll have to get an xbox 360 and a way to record it first
@@kel_ski to me, it has a great story that legit makes it like the third film, and the multiplayer was a lot of fun and I was very sad they didn’t incorporate it in the remaster versions
Your edits are legendary and hilarious haha def earned a sub, keep it up 👏🏽
thank you so much 🤝 glad you enjoyed!
Forgot to tell about the awesome songs in this game, also the audio makes a big difference to give your team warnings of the dangers ahead and enhancing the co-op gameplay.
I remember when this game came out, me and my cousin would always play the demo on the Xbox 360
After weeks of playing this my parents got the full game for my birthday, man me, my friends, and my cousin had a great evening that day :')
You'll definitely love Vermintide 1 & 2, especially 2
Valve's management is just absurd.
This game will forever be the king of zombie co-op shooters, i have just too many fond memories of this back on the xbone and got to relive it a good bit on pc
this man deserves 100k by now man your content is pretty damn funny
thank you so much! 🤝 i’m in no hurry though, just chilling :^)
@@kel_ski hopefully i get to 1k one day been grinding for 6 years
Man this is so fun, I love the way you make the videos!
i have fun making them 🤝 i think i got a pretty decent style!
“Man I can’t wait till we’ll get the new L4D!”
💀💀
Don't worry we'll put you in cryo sleep till the year 37567 when lfd3 gets teased
Left for dead was one of my first games to play when i was younger other than cod op2 I loved this game to bits and played this game for hours Its totally Underrated
Yet another Kelski banger 🔥
thanks Dr. Purple 🤝 it was fun playing!
"You need teammates" And then you see a random on youtube parkouring his way out of a full campaign taking no damage without the help of any player nor bot(they kill bots at the start)... well, I guess this people had 14 years to master that...
I was addicted to this game when it came out. I'm kinda sad I dont have any friends to enjoy it anymore and people just play back 4 blood which I dont like.
honestly coming back to it after all these years really shows me how much it stacks up to todays games. it’s just SO quality
Deep rock hits the same feeling, it only lacks the character interactions and memorable level design
I still play it a lot to this day, have about 2k hours on my current account on Steam. It's BY FAR my favorite game of all time and the amount of content you have access to via the Workshop is never ending.
honestly i don’t blame you, the amount of value this game has is honestly mind blowing. that’s cool you still play to this day! DAMN though 2k hours? i need to get on your level
yeah you just need to cut through them anime mods though lol
Bro seeing evolve on the thumbnail gave me a huge hit of nostalgia those monster designs really had character but honestly nobody beat Ellis and that damn hunter scream
7:22 that was sick
9:00 Ñ kid got salty
True, the game is another masterpiece on design that ends being a timeless game
Valve are honestly just wizards at game design, and the fact most their games still stand up to modern games shows
Weon siendote honesto el team si fue tremenda cagada, pero todo divertido igual
game was lowkey fire asf tho (tell me why I never skipped the beginning intro shit was jus that fire)
Damn nostalgia hitting hard with this one boys
hope you enjoyed the trip 🤝
TF2, timeless masterpiece
L4D2? Timeless masterpiece
I wonder why Valve abandoned both for Dota and CSGO.... maybe also the card game and the autochess game for a bit before the latter also died :(
The hit sounds in L4D are like the TF2 hit sounds but more calming
i personally like how the hit sounds are only for the infected and not the survivors
@@kel_ski Valve makes good games
i remember getting really excited when i first saw Left 4 Dead in the game informer. been playing it ever since. in fact, it makes for a good fall-back game when im tired of playing other games.
Yo you should try custom campaigns on the workshop. Most of them are hit or miss, you'll occasionally get good maps or bad maps
mods and custom levels are something i plan on exploring!
There are many customs campaigns that rival the main ones.
@@kel_ski I recommend tank challenge v1.5 created by obez.
Still, can't deny left 4 dead is still the goat on legacy alone
video starts at 0:44
I've been playing the game for 12+ years and still play it on the daily!
Back 4 Blood was such a disappointment. It's sucks Donkey Ass in comparison to Left 4 Dead.
ong the gameplay whilst sometimes laggy and buggy is so fun everything is unique and the music bro is goated ive played L4D2 on and off since 2009 and in 2023 at 18 still playing it and with pc mods it makes the fun last longer
The ultimate L4D2 co-op experience: modded server with unlocked player count, tons of custom maps, points ranking system, random loot drops on special zombie kill, jet-pack mod... and soundboard for lolz.
and the mods are sick as hell for non competitive modes
for folks looking for anything to scratch a similar itch, try vermintide 2. it's medieval fantasy, and more melee focused, but has left 4 dead's mission structure, essentially.
