That Kritz charge into the entire enemy fortress on Turbine was one of the best things I've seen in a while. Deleting 10+ people in that charge was so damn satisfying.

I was sad that I joined the community late when I started playing a few years ago, I never had a computer and I felt like I’d at max get maybe two years out of it. Now I feel like I’ll be able to get a full tf2 experience in my life and I’m very thankful.

Honestly I don't think we need a Team Fortress 3. Just let TF2 continue to be the immortal masterpiece it is. Keep updating it with new features, content, and quality of life. If I were Valve I'd refocus development efforts on the game again and pretty much relaunch it as if it were a new product. Be like "we hope you all enjoyed the first season of updates for TF2, now get ready for Team Fortress 2 : Season 2!" and then obviously never come out with a season 3 because... you know.
I think TF3 is necessary but would be a double-edged sword. The limitations of the Source engine have already been laid bare, and they’re only going to get tested more and *more* thanks to the introduction of Vscript and the trickle of other new development features this game keeps getting. I used to think it was much more necessary though, but a lot of the recent updates have massively opened up the possibilities for mappers and devs, but I have a feeling it won’t be that long before someone does something a bit too beyond the pale for vscript. :p However, the obvious future of a TF3 is source 2, and I don’t know if I expect it to take away TF2’s current charm or not. I mean maybe it was an intentionally different direction but it seems to have done that somewhat for S&box, despite its other advancements.

I dunno why, but Hardwood is one of my favorite maps because every time I see it I get nostalgia for the deep forest levels from Pac-Man Adventure World 2, if they had thrown a couple of sawmills and nets in there it would be uncanny how similar they are.
I haven't played TF2 since 2012 and now I'm hooked again thanks to the summer update. So many memories playing since Orange box release it is incredible to me that this game is not only alive and kicking but thriving! So much fun.

Ah yes. Versus Saxton Hale. The mode where one burly, muscular, australian peak of human evolution beats the soul out of a bunch of mercenaries while the mercenaries. I've really only played 3 of the new maps cuz the official servers were/likely still are of course flooded with bots and Uncletopia servers only rotate the same 5 maps but when it's not those 5, Phoenix, Sulfur and Selbyen have been lots of fun and became instant favorites
They really just went "Fuck it" and made the best (recent) update with low effort. Or it's just the fact we were sold with a SEAL. But to be honest, who would say no to the SEAL?
btw kelski, 100 player mode (for like a very brief period of time) also included saxton hale maps, and in those maps saxton hale would have nearly 100,000 health.
The beauty of tf2 is its simplicity in apparent game mechanics, a new player is not overwhelmed with 10 million stat types and can get used to the game quite quickly. On the other side a vet can learn and master the obscure mechanics like the demo mans charge, use the wrangler to sentry jump etc. The game also lacks gamebreaking classes or weapons.
FYI: the upgraded saxton hale game mode that is now official, have been made by the community. So all the new animations are not from valve they just put the entire work of the community in the game like the maps
If they ever add 100 player or 2000 player games, expect a ton of scouts and spies and snipers to just do a conga line until the enemy team goes with the conga line mfor a 2000 or 4000 pl,ayer conga line

TF2 with it's trading system allowed me to get all the games I wanted for absolutely free. It was so good, titles like Crysis 3,FarCry 3 and even Skyrim were left untouched. I went from playing pirated CS 1.6 to TF2 in a matter of weeks. It was my life. As a minor I couldn't use a credit card so instead I got premium by asking a Russian guy named Sephiroth Xd to buy it for me and take the stuff from my inventory as payment. And so my journey started and I alone purchased from him over 600 accounts as you could use them to farm more items. But, as you can guess it didn't stop at just that. I constantly played the game and became annoyingly good at it. On public servers I'd end up banned a few times a day. I maimed Spy, Sniper and enjoyed Demoknight a bit too much. But I knew how to play all classes extremely well compared to the random pub players. Sure, it wasn't as easy in highlander or competitive servers as people on there were good. But imagine you are single handedly dominating the enemy team and then, another very good player joins. It becomes an intense 1v1 in which you both either use the same load out or change classes to best your opponent. The skill difference is so vast that the other enemy team becomes something you tend to ignore. They learn quickly that if they intervene the other will stop attacking you and you can easily dispatch them. Eventually the enemy teams ignore the both of you aside from the random new guys on the server. Hours of fun in a single pub. Taunting each other, going to intricate kills and strategies. Sure, we weren't anything close to players like stabbystaby, but we could hold our ground against OGs like Jerma, Niichts (star) and Muselk. And the better you were at TF2, the better you were at other FPS games due to the extremely varied targeting system and inherent lack of hitscan weapons. That game is actually the reason I could play Counter Strike Source in ESEA, competitively. Easily out gunning even seasoned pros just because my reflexes were sharper. I miss playing this game for like 16 hours a day. Just cause it was so much fun. With graphics so low it made Minecraft look like a 4k game. 😂 Sadly, I no longer have a PC. But I'd give just about anything to play it some more. Hopefully, after I get a new phone I can start playing games more competitively and eventually afford a PC to do what I always wanted. Be a RUclipsr. I always wanted to be one, and I could have had success, if I wasn't so God damn poor and could afford a decent mic and a PC good enough to edit stuff. Oh man, I remember playing on the community Saxton Hale servers. It was always some funky community map and Hale was just some random class. And I remember this part clearly: on some particular server there was always this song playing, "The Millionaire's Holiday".
I think that both the community and Valve don't get enough credit. On one hand the community made so much quality content that many of their oldest players and content creators came back (on that note, the fact that they got STAR_ producing TF2 content is a feat on it's own). And Valve pretty much helping (although rarely) with whatever original community update, occasionally throwing in something nice whenever the stuff the community comes up is good enough. All in all I think the community and Valve have a somewhat difficult but positive relationship, makes me understand why this gem of a game has been going for so long and endured so much, yet still be so beloved by all.

I think that both the community and Valve don't get enough credit.
On one hand the community made so much quality content that many of their oldest players and content creators came back (on that note, the fact that they got STAR_ producing TF2 content is a feat on it's own).
And Valve pretty much helping (although rarely) with whatever original community update, occasionally throwing in something nice whenever the stuff the community comes up is good enough.
All in all I think the community and Valve have a somewhat difficult but positive relationship, makes me understand why this gem of a game has been going for so long and endured so much, yet still be so beloved by all.
